Not a lot of forward movement in this issue. The most interesting thing is noting how many Legionnaires get pictured even if most have absolutely no impact on the story.

Those featured this issue:

Mon-El
Brainiac 5
Saturn Girl
Phantom Girl
Dawnstar
Wildfire
Timber Wolf
Tyroc
Tellus
Gates
Chameleon Girl
Cosmic Boy
Polar Boy
Blok
Dream Girl
Star Boy
Sun Boy
Ultra Boy
Lightning Lass (Lad)?

Still with all of the Legionnaires appearing, they do nothing of real importance. Bummer.

Also, I hate the artistic portrayal of Tellus and Tyroc. Tellus is the worst. I really wish somebody would bring Steve Lightle in to show these guys how to draw this character properly. I thought Pete Woods butchered Tellus, but this is far worse.

The only thing that excited me about this issue was the return of the Legion Lost team to active duty with no explanation.

in one panel there are two Chameleon Girls!!

It feels like it is building to a Brainy saves the day finale.

You're right. And there are two Tyrocs on another page. I wonder if this is intentional. For both duplicates, one is the Legion Lost version while the other is the Levitz LSH vol. 6 version.

There are 5 splash pages & 2 of those are 2 page spreads. If you replaced 5 of those pages with 6 panel pages the story might progress a little more. I really hate this trend in modern comics. And to think that I and most of the people that I knew really dug the 2 page splashes that Jack Kirby drew for his Kamandi book.

If I was being kind I would say it is Cham in disguise but I suspect the artist didn't realise they were the same characters as they look so different.

The Legion are guest stars in the book, but you think they'd take a bit of time to have some sort of reunion/reaction scene. "We thought you were all dead!" "What took you so long?" "Why is Gates so quiet?" Anything at all really, but no, everyone just stands around like nothings happened.

Also, setting aside the doubled up Legionnaires in the spread, where did Sun Boy, Polar Boy, Ultra Boy, Dream Girl etc. come from? Weren't there only a handful that went back in time? Why is seemingly the whole Legion there without explanation?

AND - Just to make the continuity people's heads explode: Maybe the Legion Lost crew *IS* from a different world, so there are two of each Tyroc and Chameleon Girl on the team now. wink

No snarky comment from Gates or Wildfire along the lines of "what took you so gosh darned long to rescue us?!" THOSE AREN'T REALLY THEM!!!

At the very least, Star Boy and Sun Boy are alive.

And Tinya says Duplicate Girl, not Duo Damsel.

Actually it would still be Duplicate Damsel in the Retroboot Legion. I think this power upgrade is still in continuity.

Yes, I was disapointed that there was not a reunion scene when the Legion Lost team rejoined their team mates. I figured Gates would have made a smart remark or Timber Wolf would have questioned why they were left for dead (Legion Lost #10).

I guess if the artist and editor can't even tell that there duplicates of the same character (Tyroc, Yera), the writer might not have a good handle on the characters' personalities either...

Oh btw, Happy birthday Leather Wolf!

I would have thought that if you're going to have a crossover with characters from another title appearing in your magazine, that you'd have done a character study to know who all the characters are. You'd think artist, editor, and writer would have a check list of which characters are being drawn/talked about. For those hoping Lemire becomes a future Legion series writer, I hope he and his team take the time to research the Legion backstory.

I think the writer and maybe the artist are using this story as an excuse to draw a bunch of Legionnaires. Perhaps just because they want to. Perhaps because they hope it will draw in Legion fans. Besides Brainy, the Legionnaires have very little to do with the story. It's weird to see them just standing or flying around.

That's so sad. This is sort of the reason i didn't want to see the legion brought back. This isn't building on their legend. It's just, kind of embarrassing.
