thanks for sharing, Nighty!!

I find it interesting that Rimbor in this boot, does not like chaos and lack of control. though could tie in with the highly militaristic glimpses we caught of Jo's father, for example. Still, very different from the Rimbors in the Preboot and Reboot.

lol - here you are from the never-ending roster of Legionnaires from the future!

well, that was quite a debate about handing the ring over or not. Happy to see Brainiac 5 in favor...

"Youre making the Legion look bad!" I chuckled at that, but it does fit Superboy';s age tongue

well, I'm curious enough to see what happens next!
That is a different take on Rimbor. It explains why they weren't happy with Jo's idea for democracy, too big a change from a military hierarchy.

One aspect of this series I do like is no-nonsense, sourpuss Batman. He's a more challenging counterpoint to the Legion than ideal hero Superman. Don't suppose we'll learn what Planet Gotham is about in the next two issues.
Not the way Bendis writes... lol
Did this issue come out this week?? It's so hard to predict anymore! LOL

It comes out Tuesday, August 23rd.
Thanks Nighty! smile
So, I just read it. Having 9pm Pacific time equal midnight EST has its perks.

We FINALLY find out who is behind the darkness.

But, I feel like they are literally making this up as they go along without knowing how to end it. Like they started with no end game in sight. And now they have to scramble for some kind of ending.

I guess next issue will determine whether any of this made any sense at all.
Well, at least we find out who… but whew a lot sure is riding on that last issue!!
I just read spoilers, and all I have to say is...

If Bendis is gonna rip off old Legion stories, then surely he could do better than Hypertaxis. Ras al Ghul was a washout, so I don't see how Vandal Savage would work any better!
The big villain reveal is a character that hasn't interacted with this Legion (or any Legion, really), has no theoretical links to the Legion or any individual Legionnaires, and hasn't done anything of relevance with the Justice League in years. There were also no clues in any of the 5 issues leading up to the reveal, literally nothing. Nothing that would imply their identity. Nothing that would hint at a motive. The villain could have been anyone else and made just as much sense. And on top of all that...the most frustrating aspect of this entire mini-series...is that not one thing any of the Legionnaires or Leaguers have done for 5 entire issues has had any affect whatsoever on anything; they have merely been whisked from scene to scene against their will and flailed their arms helplessly. While delivering some of the stiffest Bronze Age-era expositional dialogue I have read from a modern book. The supposed central character Gold Lantern has had no agency and nothing he has said or done has mattered. None of the "clues" they discussed this issue amounted to anything, and then Triplicate Girl magically knew who it was?

I'm just at a loss here. There should have been hints and breadcrumbs, and the reveal needed to be much earlier in the story if there weren't going to be any other villains to impede the heroes. I don't see how the sixth issue can save any of this. I suspect it will be more of the same. The heroes will be passengers to everything happening around them.

Maybe I'll be wrong?
Well said Alexander. Took the words out my mouth.

Still waiting for any of the heroes to act heroically.
indeed, very well said, Alexander.
At one point when each character weighs in on their thoughts as to what's going on Princess Projectra is referred to as White Witch. Stuff like this is really annoying to me.

I think some other writer out there should be given the responsibility of writing the Legion in any future stories. Someone who understands who they are and what they're about.
So based on what I've seen online, which is the preview and the last two pages, I think I've read about half the issue and nothing truly significant happens in those other pages, so I think I'll pass on buying this issue, at least now. I may go down to the LCS today and take a look tho.

Based on what I've already read, I think a new and competent editor is also desperately needed.
I'll also add, that I did ask someone else about whether or not Vi had any dialogue this issue.

If Issue 6 is published without her saying a word, it will be the first time an OG Silver Age Legionnaire was presented in a reboot without any dialogue across any of her appearances.
I've run out of things to say about this era, other than this:

Even amongst the worst comics I have read, I can still get a sense that the creators cared about the characters in at least SOME capacity. In the past three years, I have only felt a gaping void resonating from where any sense of love and appreciation for the Legionnaires should be in Bendis's writing.
Heart-stopping action - on the cover.

The person behind the Darkness was a surprise, but could just as well have been Mr. Mxy (who actually has more of a Legion connection).

Yeah, Vi didn't get any speaking parts. Invisible Kid got a panel (still invisible) and a lot of what was said by most of them didn't add anything to the character.
I actually flipped through this at the beach comic store. Didn't see much that was missing from the preview and other reviews, although I was happy to see that the Luornu story seemed to resolve.

But I didn't buy it. Me and the girls still have 10 more indie comics to get through.
In this issue Dawnstar seems to have a particular connection to Gold Lantern. I don't recall, has that been shown in earlier issues?
I noticed that and no I don't recall any earlier suggestion of that. I guess I decided that it was more a reflection of Dawnstar's character and how she would know her teammates and relate to them at a more empathic level perhaps. I thought it was nice to see some character development although I wish there had been a lot more consistently.
Does anyone else think it's sad how Gold Lantern is Bendis's pet OC and even with the hyping and focus, he's still done practically NOTHING with the character?

I don't find it sad, I find it amusing.

So much for Gold Lantern's alleged awesomeness. lol
Imagine what would have happened if Bendis had HATED Gold Lantern!
He'd not give him any dialogue. wink

LOL
Is the Justice League's search for a gold lantern still going to pay off in the story, or was it just a false lead? They spent most of this issue yakking about it before Vandal Savage popped up out of nowhere.

They could have put this entire issue's story content on two pages and gone ahead and finished the story by now.

Seriously this has been my problem with the whole thing to the point of me being so offended that I wouldn't buy the issue that just released last week.

An editor who won't give constructive feedback on a story is either a fanboy (or "stan" to use the modern parlance), is bullied, or is incompetent. Regardless releasing a story that has enough content that could be condensed into half the issue space and have more cool stuff happen, for a book that comes out off-schedule at a rather expensive price per issue, is frankly insulting when the same story could be told in half the space.

Who to aim my ire at is a great question, but the publisher, editor and writer are all part of that equation. I've been on this particular Earth long enough to know a cash grab when I see one. And the fact that after a years worth of online self promotion, the writer is basically silent as the last few issues come out? Come on, man. In order for this series to be redeemed, that last issue (which I guess is next month) better be the best 22 pages in modern comics history where pen has been put to paper.

I feel bad for the Bendis fans. They really have been going to bat for him these last few years, but its been a game of diminishing returns, at least as concerns the Legion. I'll be picking up Powers, as that's what the consensus seems to say is a good work on his part, because I want to see what the fuss is about. This Legion was my introduction to his writing, and I just have to say, "what was the big deal?" So I want to find out.
GL, if you want to sample Bendis's good work, I would recommend the early story arcs of Ultimate Spider-Man.
Thank you, Ann, I think I might. I need to have some validation that he can write in order to have the clout that he does. smile
For me, Bendis' best work is the initial run of Alias for Marvel (AKA Jessica Jones). It holds a special place for me as one of my favorite comic runs. I consider it not just Bendis' best, but one of the best runs of that entire era from any writer. His Daredevil run was also spectacular and frankly character-defining.

Which is why his Legion work hurts so much.
And Alias is what the Netflix JJ show was based on, yes? If so, that's very positive.
I found Bendis work on Daredevil to be good (at least some of it).
So if he wrote a Karate Kid or Timberwolf limited series where they were in the 20th century it'd probably be pretty good.
Maybe if he had written it 20 years ago.

wink

I've been absent from this board for a few months in order to not be spoiled on this series, as I hadn't had the opportunity to get to my LCS in a while.

I needn't have taken that precaution. Nothing seems to be happening here. A bunch of Legionnaires and Justice Leaguers are shunted in time a few times, and there's something dark around, but that's pretty much it. They make it seem like Gold Lantern is a key to this thing that's happening, but five-sixths of the way through, darned if there's any sign of how or why. And now Vandal Savage appears.
Good summary.
It reminds me a bit of Zero Hour. Heroes gather, to try to do something, but all they do until the end is react to whatever is happening. A series of random events
Good to see you back, Chaim!
Thanks! Hated to be a stranger, but spoilers could have lurked anywhere...trivia threads, for example, might have referred to this story. You never know.
yeah, good having you back CMK! holding out some faint hope that issue 6 will make it all worth it...
