listened to Nina Gordon's long-overdue second solo album, Bleeding Heart Graffiti. I liked it so much I played it all the way through twice. I think I like it even better than her first solo album, Tonight and the Rest of my Life. One of the best songs, Suffragette, is co-written by Wendy Melvoin.
Got home after a late night of board-gaming and a Venture Brothers marathon.

I was on the train heading back from the comic shop. I sat down next to a mormon missionary. Unfortunately it was not one of the cute boys in a crisp white shirt. After I finished reading my comic, she attempted to make small talk. She started by asking how my comic was. I answered and asked how her mission was going. She was a little surprized that I knew she was a missionary. I chatted with her, but did not give her an opening to discuss God with me. I was a little surprized that she was by herself as usually they travel in pairs.
Worked some, then stopped by to check on my Grammy. She's 95 but insists she's 89.

Finished downloading the LSH Chronology. I now have all the LSH comics up to zero hour.
Having the electronic version is nice but I still plan on buying the rest of the archives that i don't own and filling in the other gaps in my collection when opportunity arises.

reminded Pov that when Teeds is bezerk its every man for himself!
went grocery shopping and was feeling nostalgic (a new DVD of a childhood cartoon will do that to you), so instead of buying Diet Coke, I bought Tab.
"Tab, Tab Cola, what a beautiful drink."

...started another two-day round of steroids, and spent the evening sorting, bagging and putting comics away.
Oh, and I went on eBay and replaced the Classic Warlock statue I had to return because it came out of the box broken. That's two I'm aware of with the same break in the package...right across the cape, just under the shoulders.
I also placed a bid for the McDonalds LSH set.
Finished the drugs, pulled the IV and jumped in the shower... just about finished up and I lost power.

went swimming; it was early evening and no one was there except me and my friend, and the water was very warm from the heavy sun during the morning and afternoon. In all, a nice time and a nice way to get some much-needed exercise.

Hey Cobie, canceling an account lowers your credit score. Your credit score is based, in part, on your debt to available credit ratio. When you close an account you lower your total credit available.
Just keep that in mind if you're going to buy a house or try to get a job with the NSA.
thanked Lad Boy for the advice! I was partially aware of that, so I bought my new condo before cancelling the card
. My latest credit score revealed too many open accounts (student loans, car, etc.). But thanks for the advice!
Watched
How Green was My Valley.
Read Suetonius' brutal account of Nero's life in Lives of the Ceasers. Brutal!
will watch the corn grow.
Visited my grandmother's grave. She passed away in 1971 (I was 8) I just recently found out which cemetery she was buried in. The first time I went out the office was closed and I wandered around but did not find her grave. Today the office was open and I got directions to the grave. It was on a hillside, right next to the road (there was a stone wall between the graves and the road)
I went from the Red Line to the end of the Orange Line and then took a bus. The bus left me off near the cemetery and I had to walk (uphill) for about 5 minutes.
My grandmother was born in 1891. Also buried there were my grandfather who passed away in 1930. And two people I don't know. One I think was my grandfather's mother. She died in 1916. The other was man with a different surname who died in 1925. Only my grandmother's and grandfather's names were on the headstone.

[/b]According to the Connecticut website, you need to use the official form provided by the court. I would also say that only the landlord (in this case your sister) can properly evict.
I thought the 3 days was too little time. Here in massachusetts, a tenant has 14 days for non-payment (A full rental period for any other reason). But apparently in Connecticut it is only 3 days for any reason.
Oh and you also have to have it served by a state marshall. The fee is about $35-$45. Are you sure your sister would want a notice to quit served?

A lot of cities have programs like this where they ask everyone in the city to read one book. For us this year, it's
Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. I read the first couple chapters while waiting for my car to be serviced the other day.
Remembered that I finally convinced Lady Cobalt to watch Veronica Mars seasons 1 and 2 with me! We watched 6 episodes yesterday--man, what a great show! I've only watched both seasons one time and am looking forward to seeing the best two season finales in the history of television, not to mention the most clever plot twists and dialogue.
That post should be moved to the VM thread in the AM forum... so I wouldn't have to read it.
Stated with great amusement that Pov, Gary, Scott and others will never be rid of Veronica Mars threads throughout all of LW!
Am forced to work through lunch for a stupid conference call! Don't these people know I go to the gym during lunch rather than eat? Its not like I can work out at my desk like they're eating at their desks. Bah!

That sucks, Pov.

Just got back on my feet (in time to go to work after the weekend)

If it is Parallax I have been getting rid of him bit by bit. I think he's fighting back though.
Although to be honest you really don’t want to know the details of just how I have been getting that little yellow bug out of my system.
Stay strong, Darden... he lives for your FEAR!
for Far. I'm in the same boat. I've been ill for days, barely leaving the apartment. (Luckily my laptop doesn't require me to sit up to use.
)
But today I felt a bit better! I even ventured back to school with promising results.
I started my new shift at 6am. So that's what a sunrise looks like!
took a
picture of men in the park who were operating a remote-controlled roving vehicle. It's Washington, near the White House, so I took it without stopping to point the cameraphone and carefully compose the image. I sort of walked away nonchalantly, muttering to myself about laundering foreign contributions made to a Republican campaign slush fund so as not to arouse any suspicion.
...cleaned my room and finally put up the last of my wall hangings. I do need to buy a cork board for one sad blank wall but still! It's a vast improvement! (If you're curious, check it out
here and
here .
)
went for a nice, long bike ride, and demonstrated to myself how out-of-shape I've gotten. I also checked out the botanical gardens (less impressive in the fall, but still nice).
(PS: very nice, Cali!)
...saw my friend Zach in an opera in which he wore little fairy wings and went around on the stage in roller skates.
That's an opera? Wow. *blinks*
Anyway. Today I went to breakfast with my parents while Very hungover, then we went to Costco and I got a new plasma TV as an early birthday gift! (The old one wasn't working anymore.) It's so pretty.
remembered what snow looked like
No! too early! too early!
luckily, it's still a nice autumn here... leaves are just about to peak, and that beautiful brisk October breeze in the air... ahhh... magnifique.
I took a long walk between classes through a bunch of interconnected parks, almost all the way down to the ocean.
It's all over Kent. Just a brief flashback...
Today I wait patiently to see if The Rockies website crashes like it did yesterday.

went to the dentist for the sixth time in 2007. My filling broke off/fell out and I had to get my previuosly root-canalled tooth a new filling. Didn't do the crown yet still. Hate going to the dentist.
Really, really, really hate going to the dentist.
Today I forgot to take my umbrella with me

Cut & pasted one of the bad poems from last night. Why here it is.
Raisen Pie
by Edgar Guest
There's a heap of pent-up goodness
in the yellow bantam corn,
And I sort o' like to linger
round a berry patch at morn;
Oh, the Lord has set our table
with a stock o' things to eat
An' there's just enough o' bitter
in the blend to cut the sweet,
But I run the whole list over,
an' it seems somehow that I
Find the keenest sort o' pleasure
in a chunk o' raisin pie.
There are pies that start the water
circulatin' in the mouth;
There are pies that wear the flavor of
the warm an' sunny south;
Some with oriental spices spur
the drowsy appetite
An' just fill a fellow's being
with a thrill o' real delight;
But for downright solid goodness
that comes drippin' from the sky
There is nothing quite the equal of
a chunk o' raisin pie.
I'm admittin' tastes are diff'runt,
I'm not settin' up myself
As the judge an' final critic of
the good things on the shelf.
I'm sort o' payin' tribute
to a simple joy on earth,
Sort o' feebly testifyin' to its
lasting charm an' worth,
An' I'll hold to this conclusion
till it comes my time to die,
That there's no dessert that's finer
than a chunk o' raisin pie.

(yesterday, actually)... discovered that the local CBS is now using American prices for comics, TPBs and most products! So we're still paying more (given the exchange rate), but within reason, at least.

Vienna is actually rather bland (more so than I'd imagined), and it's nowhere near any mountains at all. Other cities larger and smaller have better historic districts, nicer palaces/civic monuments and better arthitecture/landscaping all around.
The Austrian Alps are a far nicer place to be! Good for you, Cali!

I just finished listening to the self-titled debut album. It's a bit overblown in spots, but overall I like it. The best song is "I Will Not Follow", of which the title alone pretty much sums up how I try to live my life.
Am finished with papers and finals!
sit on my butt, anxiously awaiting some free time tonight to work on Legiony art projects.

I can vouch that Cramer's kitchen is a wonderous place.
went to Moody Gardens Aquarium in Galveston and saw the penguins: They have kings, chinstraps, gentoos and, yes, rockhoppers!!!
had my transfer case repaired. And my clutch.
felt the familiar weight of an impending depression.
griped, generally about nothing but it felt good anyway. somedays are just right for a gripe!
had warm pizza for breakfast. Man, what a meal
Had cake. Twice. Then, walked three miles in an attempt to counteract it.
am in a really bad mood. A Lucy Van Pelt level bad mood.
laughed out out loud when when I read the previous post. Thank god for Lucy.
threw over what I was supposed to do and read what I wanted to. (Not comics though.)
...worried that I may have seen my grandpa for the last time today. It's his second run-in with cancer in the last three years, and he's in his '80s.
Scheduled appointment to pick my wedding ring on Saturday morning (jeepers! :shiver:)
And
to Lardy!
have one less cat. *sigh* Makes me think of my own mortality - death is probably worse than a big wedding, Cobie!
Lardy
hope things go ok for you and grandpa.

sorry to hear about your cat how long did you have her or should that be how long did she have you?

No hugs for you young man, just hope the ring fits and you'll be as happy as me and Jen.
... sitting along the counter seating in McDonalds. I noticed the young woman seated near me looking around. I looked over to her and she said "Did you take the napkin that was here?" indicating the side of her tray. I replied "no" seeing as I hadn't taken her napkins. She continued to look around and I did as well. I then said "are you talking about the napkins in your hand?" She looked at her hand and the napkins and busted out laughing. She then said "I need to get a job because I'm losing my mind"
Has she considered running for President?
No, she appeared too smart for that job.
...am sick from work. Sad face for missing my half-day at work. Gives me some time to reacquaint myself with Legion World though!
...went to the library and rented 30 CDs.
Woke up
Went to the gym
Went on two sales calls
Came home
Mowed and weed whipped
Pretended I didn't have a garden that needs serious weeding
Right now, I want to take a nap but it's a bit late for that.
doing nothing particular.
Tomorrow however, I am picking up my 3 great nieces and spending the day with them in Boston. Not sure what we will do. I said to them to think of what they want to do. Might do a picnic lunch in the Public Gardens followed by a swan boat ride.

The Duck Tours thing? I heard that those are pretty fun.
I'm partial to the aquarium or the museum of science, but I've been to both so many times they've lost their shine for the moment.
Today, I'm just sitting at work. The boss is out. I have no tasks outstanding. I'm just killing these last few hours slowly...
How slowly? I just laughed at a lolcat. I'm rilly, rilly bored.
I downloaded and burnt a set of new karaoke discs

The swan boats pre-date the Duck Tours by many decades. Read the book "Make Way for Ducklings"
... I went to the emergency room. I should have gone yesterday, but I had the 3 nieces with me.
It started as we were headed into Boston. We were going to the track to get the train. The older two nieces started down the escalator. I was with the 6 year old. I stepped onto the escalator, but she hesitated. She then goes "I'm scared!" So I start going up the down escalator to get her, trip and cut my knee. It didn't hurt and after pressing some kleenex against it the little bleeding there was stopped.
So we spent the day in Boston. This morning after looking it over (it was a little deep) decided to have a professional look at it. If I had gone in yesterday, they would have given me some stitches. However, after 12 hours, they don't give stitches as the wound has started to close on its own.
The doctor did prescribe antibiotics and I got a tetanus shot. I think I might end up with a scar. I wonder how many people I can convince it is an old fencing scar?
Back spasm better, weekend saved!
...got pulled over for expired tags.
...went in 3 hours late for work to keep me from getting overtime, per boss's orders.
...still got a little over a half hour's worth!
Picked up and paid for my wedding ring. Still won't be putting it on until the wedding three months from now, but man it feels a little weird/cool.
Oh, also watched my favorite movie of all time, Casablanca, on the Green in a neighboring town this evening. It was really cool, I've never done that before (sit outside on a green with a ton of people and watch a movie in the summertime). Definitely would like to do it again if the movie is great.
Watched about 5 or 6 episodes of Stargate SG-1
am waiting for my Mom to call. She's supposed to drop of a prescription, and I'm hoping she can make either a Taco Bell or Dunkin' run for me, too...
Am burning episodes of the Legion cartoon on to DVD

fan enuff!
Went swimming.
I went two weeks ago, also-- my first time in over two years. My little sister's boyfriend's sister has an inground pool, and I'd been invited previously. I finally decided strength and energy issues be damned, I'd give it a try.
I'd read elsewhere how swimming was good exercise for MS; The water helps lower the body's core temp, which can help with nerve conduction and cooling from the exertion, and the bouyancy helps support the body when we're no longer strong enough, like with standing.
Anyway, the first attempt was just weird. Much better experience today. My attempts at "walking" were more successful- The first time around I kept kicking one leg into the other. The best part, though? Getting to spend time in the pool with my 5-month old niece, Mackenzie.
Did Mackenzie beat you at water polo?
She was too busy trying to drink the pool water... chlorine, eeww...
But she kicks her little legs like nobody's business... I'm thinking she could make the 2028 Olympic water polo team...
returned to Legion World...
...have to go back to work, boo.
went for a long walk on the boardwalk ... and then ate ice cream ...
read 2 weeks of comics in one sitting. Ah bachelorhood...
...need to do my take-home final, ugh!
went to work for the 1st time in a week and a half.
Worked hard retrieving very boring material at the library all day (well it was just the morning but I'm billing for the day). Had lunch at a vegetarian restaurant, and then went shopping to see if there was any good Spring/Summer merchandise still after clear out sales the entire month of July.
Am now reading 200+ pages of material now. Really its just back up for three paragraphs of a report.
Logged into Legionworld...EGADS!
Got put through the wringer at work, so much so that I suddenly don't know what my future with this company will be anymore. I'm grateful for Legion World tonight to have as an escape, for sure!
Hang in there, Lardy!
I will, Rocky--it's my nature. But to go in two days 180 degrees from where I thought I stood is pretty rough. We had a Standard Practice Evaluation at my store (kind of like an audit but of business practices moreso than financial), and I was expecting high marks because I'd busted my ass fixing the issues from the last one. They blindsided me by focussing on something altogether different that had only been introduced recently and absolutely BURIED me with it!
And all this just before I take a week's vacation starting Saturday! I just hope I can enjoy myself.
Appreciate the

You're making me very glad I've made my career in the public sector.
Enjoy your vacation, though! You've earned it. And a good vacation can make all the difference--having just come back from the best one I've had in ages, I know!

Good luck, JOHN. They say the first step is the hardest in getting over a breakup. I'm not convinced of this, having gone through a breakup myself. But every day does get a little better.

visited the DC Boards and was saddened and confused by some posts I found from a former prolific Legion Worlder. Mentally debated whether or not to open a topic here about it and decided against. Didn't want to open a can of worms, I guess. Still a little saddened, though, so I made this post, at least, to help me work thru it.

yes to both of you,...Luke was married to Mara Jade, and in the current Star Wars series of books "Legacy of the Force." i just finished reading the 5th book in the series she is poisioned in a fight by the new Sith Lord and dies,..

finally settled a minor ongoing argument with my wife about a song lyric. I always thought Stevie Nicks sang about a "one-winged dove", but it was a "white-winged dove". Oh well, at least I didn't think it was "Pour some shook-up Ramen"!
I never understood that lyric until I moved to southern Arizona. Ms. Nicks is from these parts and white winged doves are very common here.
and it also reminds me of a fun interview I saw with Christine McVie once. She was talking about how she never understood Stevie's lyrics. She was laughing about it saying that she had been singing those songs for years and never knew what they meant.

found out I do not have tuberculosis (TB). I had to get tested for a possible temp assignment. They test you twice, seven days apart. You get injected with some liquid and go back in 2 days. If there is "a red circle", that is evidence that you have TB. My first test was OK. There was an initial mosquito bite-like bump that went away quickly. In checking 2 days later, the nurse even said "Where did they do the injection?" The second time there was a small red circle where they injected me and it didn't go away. SO I am thinking "Oh No, I have TB" But when the nurse looked at my arm she was "You're fine." I asked about the little red circle. And she said "Oh if it was TB, it would be a big circle and all bubbly." Needless to say, I was relieved.

I passed one woman (bull dike actually) who was sitting on the curb, looking at her cell phone. It looked like she had been working on the car parked in front of her and there were two empty beer bottles next to her. I walk along the car behind her and here the sound of running water. There between two cars was another bull dike, squawting down, releaving herself. As I passed, she looked up towards me. I quickly shifted my eyes forward and continued walking. I think I made the right decision for all concerned.

The station was crowded with people, mostly young people, who had come into Boston to celebrate the new year, stayed over night, and were returning home. As I stood looking for a place to sit, a guy hawking trolley tours asked me if I need help. I said "I just need a seat." He thought I said "I need the T (aka the subway)." He started to tell me how to get to it, but I and a guy with him corrected him. As I started to head off to find a seat, this guy says to me "Well, there's lots of pretty girls around."
I should have said "There are a lot more handsome men."

I was roaring with laughter.

Finalized my plans for the rest of the week while I'm in Manhattan. My boss and I will have three of our clients coming (from same company) and we'll be taking them to meetings but also taking them out around Manhattan.
Should be lots of great dinners & lunches, plus we're going to see God of Carnage tomorrow night on Broadway (James Gandolfini, Marcia Gay Harden, Hope Davis and Jeff Daniels--great cast!). This is the fun part of my job!
Brushed the snow off my car. Yes, snow at the end of Arpil. You can all be jealous now.

...was surprised about AFOB's assessment of the Wolverine flick because it's been getting really, REALLY bad reviews! (I haven't seen it and have considered not doing so because of the reviews)
...heard the movie was rated as "Too much like a comic book." Hellooooo? That's like saying Cats was too feline. I mean it's no Dark Knight, but it also helps that I just go to these movies for fun. I am one of the few who doesn't read Marvel, I just see the movies. About the only one I haven't liked is Elektra.

Finished organizing '08s tax info. Go me.

Had two major parts of Lo3W spoiled for me other websites even though I've avoided Legion World and the internet in general for a week now while I wait to get my copy this weekend. *Sigh*
That sucks hairy balls, Des. I've been avoiding the DCMB Legion board and various newssites just for that reason. I hate morons on the DCMB's trying to be "cute" in thread titles.
I get my copy tomorrow when Mom drops off my DCBS shipment. But I won't be able to read it until AFTER we go see my new niece Morgan.
Darned inconvenient kids...
Yeah, I'm pretty pissed. It was at either newsarama or comic book resources in an article link (I didn't even click on the article). The other one was at the "Cosmic Teams" website, where I was just looking to find something on some random obscure character.
Avoid all websites! Spoilers are everywhere!

...finally dusted off my bookshelf in my bedroom.
No mean feat, that. There was much involved in the process and limited space in which to do it.
I had to:
1) Remove two shelves worth of various trades and hardcovers
2) Remove and dust 7 statues and busts and several action figures, all Warlock and Thanos-related
3) Dust the 5-shelf unit itself and attempt to
gently hammer several gaps closed
4) Vaccuum the area it had been standing on
5) Put everything back and
6) Add all of my newer trades and HC's to the mix... taking up a third shelf and displacing some stuff I'll deal with later.
A good 2-1/2, 3-hour job... still not sure exactly how I want the books organized, but I'll leave that for another day.
Put them in chronological order based upon the author's date of birth.

Well, accept maybe Cleome, dear woman.
My husband just got laid off.
The unemployment dance is a terrible thing.
I didn't do it today, but I(we) visited with a son who lives in Guam last Wednesday and Thursday.
He's spent his last to times stateside with his dad for a short time, then he goes on extreme white water trips with his brother, who's a guide.
He's in his middle 40's but acts a lot like a kid, but so does his brother, who's 50 next year.

Ugh. Candle, sorry to hear about your spouse.
I'm pretty sure OR is at the bottom of the employment barrel right now, and people just keep moving here. Gack.

Today is not one of those wage-earning days, though.

Convinced a pregnant woman to go to Dairy Queen with me.
In addition to everything thing else, I did a VERY bad thing.
I was at the office, dealing with a payroll problem. She called on my cell phone, and I was afraid something was wrong with Grandmother. Mom just said, rather breathlessly, "TURN ON THE TELEVISION!"
Grife - we've had ENOUGH goofy stuff happening, and I had all sorts of things runnin' through my head - are we at war? massive tornado wipes out parts of Oklahoma again? My brother is caught giving the President a piece of his mind?
*sigh*
I explained to her I was at work, and she said, "Oh. That camera on that you want is on television!"
Somewhat relieved, I talked to her for a few minutes, and I assured her I would check things out as soon as I got back home. I did. And I just ordered a damned camera.

Boring.

... bought $75.00 worth of books today. (that turned out to be 4 books: Pride and Prejudice and zombies; The Truth with jokes by Al Franken; the unoffical Guide to Making Money on Ebay; & Enemies & Allies a Superman/Batman novel set in the 1950s)
I bought these books because when I bought my washer/dryer, Sears refunded me the delivery cost. However, they don't send a check that you can deposit into the bank. Instead they send you a MasterCard gift card for the amount of the refund. The same thing happened with my cell phone.
I could have used it for groceries, but saw a person trying to use one in my grocery store and having trouble using it. SO, books it was, I decided.

Boring. She came out ... of the box. At the time I was a teller in a bank and I had her (and a Dr. WHo TARDIS bank) at my window. At the time, I also had a Red Tornado (now missing). When you squeezed Reddy's arms together, his legs spun around.
...looked in vain around the house for a cat-safe zone in which to display more action figures (or anything displayable, really). Failed utterly.
Found a really good price for a round trip flight to NYC and tried in vain to find a reasonable hostel with 7 open days. Try again tomorrow, then maybe book the flight. Or not. Sometimes the fun is in the planning. I'm getting too old for implementation. lol
