So, Saturday my niece is getting married. Instead of a reception, she is having a sit down dinner at a fancy restaurant. I just looked at their menu online. As a very fussy eater, there is nothing on the menu that I would eat.

Is there anything that you would eat with a little modification (e.g. a salad where you can have ingredients such as tomatoes removed)?

You might arrange a variation ahead of time. Either go through the person doing the booking or call it yourself. Good venues are used to dealing with all sorts of dietary requests. I'm sure they get the occassional fussy person. smile The more notice they get, the easier it will be.

Or you have the grin and bear it approach. Formerly known as British dining smile

I've done the "grin and bear it" many times. It's a few hours, and it doesn't cause problems for someone already in a tense situation. They won't ever know what you did (unless you tell them), but they'll always know what you didn't do (make the day more difficult, pitch a hissy like someone on bridezilla, cause a bride/groom to go to jail on their wedding day....).

Consider it part of their wedding gift. They just don't know it.

I agree with Thoth. Most restaurants are used to dietary restrictions. I would go ahead and call and say you're allergic or have a delicate stomach, etc. See what you can get.

Actually they had a children's menu they let me order off of.

Problem solved! the picky eaters in my family often depend on the children’s ’ menu too

There's a few places where the full meal is so big, that I've just ordered off the children's menu. It's lunch. I'm not storing up to hibernate.

Waiter: "Do you want fries with those fries? That would be to go with the fries in the bottom third of your plate, rather than the other versions of fries that have also been served to you."
Me: If I'm ordering off the kid's menu anyway, I'm guilt free in ordering one of the kid's milk shakes off it too! Huzzah!
