I'll need to close down this message board later tonight to fix some serious issues we are having. It's technical and too complicated to go into, sorry.
The Trophy Room is closed down until it can be repaired. Other forums may suffer the same fate until I can close down and rebuild this entire message board.
I don't have time for it now. Sorry.
Great. Jus'great...
This anything to do with the move to the new server?
Yes!
And the fact that Scott and I had to set up two MB's instead of one.
People are getting serious error messages and posts aren't being recorded because the program is confused as to where to put things. Frankly, I was surprised we lasted this long without more problems. I figured out how to fix each problem as it occurs, but now it's infected the entire Trophy Room forum.
I "fixed" the topics by deleting them and restoring them and forcing the MB to find it again. I'll need to do that for the Trophy Room.
But, more importantly, this problem will continue and become widespread unless I fix things tonight. Because after tonight I'll be gone or have very little time for Legion World until a week from Monday. Tomorrow my BF arrives and on Sunday I'll be going to New York until I work on Thursday. And of course work will prevent me from doing much of anything until that Monday.
Anyway...
I'll need to close down the enitre board later tonight. If you get any errors before then, PM me about it. If you get any errors after tonight, well...
They'll just have to wait. Sorry.
Gary
UGH!
The problem has not been solved. I've run out of time. I can't figure this out right now. I've restored things as best I could.
Su, sorry, but I deleted your Brainic 5 eBay post before I had a back up to restore it with.
Otherwise, I've learned that posts that were made but don't show up are embedded within the files data. So later on I can restore them. When I've figured out this current configuration problem. That's about as much of an explanation as I can give you.
The error messages will still exist but the information is retained.I'll have time to devote to the problem in a week and a half.
Gary
Crap! Sorry that you have to put out yet another fire to keep this thing running.
I hope you have a jolly good time with the BF btw! You need some downtime from the problems of this place!
Close the star gates! It's speading.

Yeah, yeah, we know, we be toooo dumb.
I just got this error message when I logged in
Can't open 'CachePath/ubb_files/summary/summary.html'.

Thanks. I need that info. I'll see what I can do without my computer.
I believe I've actually fixed the problem this time. *crosses fingers*
Please post here if you get the infamous error message again. Thanks.
I didn't get the error the googoomuck got but I got this error just now when posting in the MMB. It seems to be the only place I get the error.

The problem is the cache for this site. It won't refresh unless you force it to. In fact, it wouldn't let me delete or move the cache for Forum 3 (the Trophy Room), I finally was able to rename that folder in order to get that forum back to "normal." It looks like my fix was for the symptom and not the cure.
It'll have to wait until Monday, though. My schedule is about to hit the ground running. Sorry.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to be any more help Gary. You were supposed to be sharing some quality time with the BF and not worrying about us. We have another round of doctor appointments today and I have an all day meeting on Saturday but I'll do what I can on Sunday.
Guys, I don't think anyone here expects this board to be your main focus in life. Please don't feel obligated to spend time you don't have trying to fix things that really won't make or break us.
Do what you need to do in real life first, and then worry about the site. If the worst case scenario is that some of us find it too difficult to use the board for a few days, well... that really isn't that big a deal.
I love this board as much as the next person, but if I end up going without for a few days, I think I'll be able to manage somehow, and I'm sure everyone else can too

Oblige:

1 : to constrain by physical, moral, or legal force or by the exigencies of circumstance <obliged to find a job>
2 a : to put in one's debt by a favor or service <we are much obliged for your help> b : to do a favor for <always ready to oblige a friend>
intransitive senses : to do something as or as if a favor

If you don't like the way I say it, make your own post, dear
For me, the two words have different connotations.
OBLIGED- has a more positive, slightly archaic feel to it. "Much obliged, stranger!" would be an example.
OBLIGATED- is more negative, like you're forced into doing something you don't want to do because of your responsibilities. "I'm obligated to go to this boring and stuffy fundraiser because I'm president of the club."
What the Princess said, more or less, the essence of it, you know....We love the Board but we love you more (ain't that sweet?). So take care of yourselves first; Legion World can just sit in orbit out there in M81. Ask Bode.

Sonnie, I got that message too!!!
Damn! I was hoping, unrealistically I guess, that this had cleared up on its on. I'm not sure what we can do short of rebuilding the site again.
Gary, I've made a back up of the site as of about 8:30 tonight. Sans the Temp/Movies/Cache folders. Give me a holler when you have some time.

When do you guys get this message? What part of the site are you at? The front/main page?
If so let me know if you get it now, I've tried something else and I'd like to know if it worked.

To each his own
I've just tried to get onto the Mission Monitor Board and this popped up -
Member profile corrupt (blank): '13'
- is this a bad thing? (Well as it stopped me getting to the zaniest site in creation obviously it is, but what I mean is it isn't going to be a sign of things to come is it?)
At this point, I've done all I can for our cache situation that started this discussion (it's another server issue).
This is a computer program and errors creep up from time to time. What I need to know about is permanent problems. If you refresh your browser and the problem goes away then it's not serious. If you try repeatedly, and still get the error or the problem still exists then I need to know about it.
Okay Nightcrawler
I'll stop panicking - until it's needed of course.
Thank you again for taking the time to deal with our worries, you are an absolute sweetheart!
Sorry, 'binger. I just reread my post and it sounds a bit harsh.
Sorry.
All I meant is that this server has some quirks. I've noticed it on other MBs, so it's not just us.
I wish I could solve the problem here, but...maybe our next server will be more kind.
So, what would a decent server run us if we bought our own?

Hey Guys I posted today and got a message that said

Am I gettin' the boot????
Also for a brief time this period I couldn't access Legion World. I got the Message "Page can't be found"
I logged out of my Crujectra ID and was logging back in as Crusader. Although the log in was successful, I got this message:

All I see are the colored bars -- no text (or a place where text could go) at all.
Nothing showing here either.
I couldn't see it until I posted to it!
Now it's working fine!
And Dean's groovy artwork is certainly worth seeing!
Got this messae today:

This sucks!
I don't have a clue. I can only imagine that this server has a hard time processing the MB. I can't think of anything else to do for this problem.

Obvious points - in the midst of all the cache-fixing (how'd you finally do that, BTW?), could a file not have been generated yet or somesuch? Or the new file have the wrong name?
I was able to move the whole folder by turning off cache in the CP. (Something else else I was afraid to do before because of the bold read warning message telling me never to do that.)
Then, with it moved. I could successfully delete it.
When I turned it back on. A new cache was created by the program. Everything should have been in place by the time I made my statement in the shoutbox. Thus, I believed there shouldn't be anymore error messages. I just don't know how to fix this problem and no one else seems to have it over at Infopop's forum.
Sorry Gary, but I just got a brand spanking new error message...one I've never seen before or I wouldn't waste your time posting it.
An error has occurred:

Gary, regarding the error message I posted as did Chuck. Everything seems to be working fine until I post to any of the threads. As soon as the Please wait screen disappears, instead of going back to the new post on the thread you were on, you get the error message. I've now gotten it on my last three posts to three different threads.
When I manually return to the thread I was posting to, the message is not there until someone else posts and then it appears where it belongs.
Curious...it doesn't happen on this thread. I'll see if it happens anyplace other than the MMB forum.
Vee I'm having the same problem!
Sounds like what happened with Outdoor Miner the other day in the Anywhere Machine forum. We may have to do another *shudder* rebuild. Maybe we can do it during Thanksgiving when our American family here is celebrating.
Scott, somehow that error is shunting posts off into "Limbo". They show up in Today's Active Posts and Last Posts but not in the threads.
Haven't checked all the fora but it seems to be isolated to MMB for now.
Just FYI. Don't know if this'll post, but I couldn't post as Nardo in MMB, but I could as Reep in PCM.
The MMB is the problem. I may close the board here in a minute to test something.
FYI, guys, I copied this message I got in PCM:
"Sorry, UBB has encountered an unexpected, fatal error. This error is extremely abnormal. Please contact the board administration. The error text is:

Also been getting other msgs, one which mentions possible hack attack. I don't know if it affects this, but I was changing my avatar when I noticied a new avatar was being added to the avatar list (I think it was Dr. Mayavale.)

This is one I'm partly responsible for. The HTML hack that Scott installed has a bug in it. When I update a profile in the Control Panel, it causes this error.

Gary & Scott: I just noticed that the post counts for a number of LW posters have suddenly disappeared (including yours, Gary, and Lash, and Harbinger and many others) Mine is still there at the moment and so are Icy's KP, STU so it seems to be random.
The post totals under each message seem to have remained but the Top 5 list in the directory and the toals in the community directory appear to be affected.
The weird thng is only 35 posters seem to be unaffected by this including: Scott, Vee, KP, Me, Stu, Crujectra, Cramer,Grey, and others!
I'm not seeing any problems right now. Either someone was playing with turning off post counts or there was some glitch along the line. I'll keep my eye on things tonight as much as I can.
Whoa! I'm in the Top 5!
Weird to see my name there.
It looks like those people who had an
even number of posts at the time whatever happened happened, were able to keep their post counts, whereas those with an
odd number of posts lost theirs. Really.
In talking the V some more I think I've nailed the problem. I don't know if it really is a problem or just a fact of the operating software but if you are not on-line or not visible to those on-line your post count does not show, in the directory only. All post counts are visible in any thread a poster has posted in at all times. Whether they are logged in or not.
Like I said, I don't know if this is a quirk of the software, a feature that is in use or just another UBB hiccup. But it will not affect the true post count.
TURN 'EM ALL OFF, I SAY!!!
After all, it's not the size of your post count, it's how you use your posts that COUNTS!
I can start by turning just yours off Pov, if you are volunteering.

To clarify a bit for those who have noticed the post counts in the directory before.
This has happened in the past but has not affected the true post totals. It is a quirk or something in the UBB. When we starting seeing the post counts disappear from actual threads or post totals rolling backwards in the threads, then we have a problem.
Later tonight or early in the morning when I get to work, I'll shut down the board for a few minutes and rebuild the member files to see if that helps.
And thanks to Vee, Icey and everyone else watching out for us. Brings a warm glow to my heart to see you all care.
Either everybody loses it, or nobody!
I'll gladly give up my count, but I'm not going down alone!
If you don't mind, I'd like to report a REAL problem: some idiot's spamming a thread in the MMB with pics of a fat kid molesting two frogs! How can you allow such filth?!
Oh, wait... that was
ME...
Originally posted by Pov:

And I won't give my posts up and surrender
There will be no blank space in my post count

Then that definitely sounds like a problem.
One positive result of this is that Semi will probably have to post again to get the top 5 to show his name again. Hope it's soon...
Well, enough people have posted that I'm out of the Top 5 again.
For one brief shining moment, there was a place known as Postalot...
I just got the following error message, which I don't think I've seen before:

The problem seems to have been fixed!
