Hi! Maybe you've noticed but the software on this message board is starting to show it's age. So, we've purchased a more modern software to replace it.
Do to complications in transferring the forums over to the new software, I've had to rely on some help. Luckily, they've been able to transfer a lot (except for polls and private messages).
Unfortunately, that transfer happened December 11th, 2012. So any posts being made since then, including anyone made from now on, will not be in the new Legion World forums without being re-posted once it's open.
I still need to personalize the site and learn the software before it goes live. But, I just want everyone to know that the posts that you make now are not going to be recorded on the new site.
When the time comes, this site will be temporarily archived so that any PMs or other information can be transferred over or accessed or saved. There will be another announcement and a date given when we will no longer have the UBB.Classic version of the boards available.
Thanks and Happy Holidays!
HOW. EXCITING.
Really though, it'll be great to see this place be all new and shiny!
Thanks so much for all the hard work you put into everything, Nighty!
It's well appreciated, sir.
OMG ... It's being rebooted ... posts since the 11th are not in continuity !
I've never been more excited in all of my life.
It's a Crisis of December 11th.
C.O.D.E. CODE.
That's way better than COIE. How do you pronounce that?!?!
Does this mean we can be as obnoxious as we want since these posts will be lost?!?!?!??!!
(I'm working on it already. Just need a few more ?s and !s)
There WAS a Mayan Apocalypse !!!!

OMGOD, does this make us the Reboot Legion Worlders?! Or are we the Retroboot??
All I know is we will be "post" something posters.
I think i'd prefer to be the Retroboot. If only because I would have had a swell 70's costume with all the bells and whistles!
I'm trying to decide whether I should go wild and crazy with posts now, knowing that I can be completely unrestrained since nothing I post will make it into the retrobooted board, or whether I should save up for a massive post party on the Legion World 2.0.
#TopFivePosterProblems
So?
None of this counts!
Bwa-Ha-Ha!!
Gary, I can't imagine the work involved, but it is very much appreciated. And carryover or not, no way I'm not postin' here. Tooooo many friends.
Thank you for everything you do, Gary! This sounds like it's going to be amazing!
Bah! It's all a ploy to get the post count in Science Police Headquarters up!
What!!!!! All my inane one word posts since Dec. 11th will just disappear? Oh the humanity. Oh the huge manatee!
Nighty, can I please be rebooted about 15 years younger? Thanks for the consideration.

Fortunately, that joke will disappear and you will not be held accountable.

Sorry, vB4. There's no one on staff that would help me port over to vB3.
So does this mean the Mayans were only ten days off?
I hope we'll be having a garage sale. I have a lot of killed threads to get rid of.

If Jerry gets to be rebooted younger, then we all should be!

Thank you for everything Nightie!!
I would like to be rebooted 15 pounds lighter. If Nighty is taking requests.
I think we all should get to be rebooted to the age and body type we want.
I think we should all be rebooted to look like Baby LASH.
Has anyone mentioned that our next incarnation needs a Recipes Forum?
Well, it does.
Thanks for all the hard work you put into making Legion World run Nightcrawler!
Are we live on new LW now, or still in limbo?
Still in interdimensional limbo.
Hey, what's thatgGreen bubble over there, with writing from all kinds of alien scripts? I think there's five people inside... and they kind of look like the Justice League...
Thanks for taking on such a big project for us! And right around the holidays, to boot!

Who wants to sign a petition asking Nightcrawler to shave off 15000 of EDE's posts when we make the move?
We so should finish this thread once we make the move!
So, uh, that's nearly a week of posts here that aren't going to be saved on the new board now. Are you ready to post the new link, NC?
I'm not anywhere near ready. This timetable wasn't really my idea or plan.
Is there anything we can do to help?

Thanks for the heads up, and I'm sure we can all just save a copy of anything we've posted since the 11th and want to re-post on the new boards!
Enjoy your holidays, none of us wants to add to any seasonal pressure you've got going on!
Yeah, no sweat!
Cutting and pasting important stuff like the All-Bloodclaw thread to the Legion World should be a cinch!
I am currently ony posting stuff I do NOT want transferred over so take your time. Coming soon: My Angsty Love Poems to Legion Worlders thread.
I was trying to do that with the All-Bloodclaw thread, but then it turned into something awesome by accident!

Definitely something we'll want to post on the new site!
Here's an excerpt from my angsty love poem to Teeds:
The loons, the loons
I hear their cry of longing
So they come to Legion World
For a sense of belonging
(It gets super-angsty from there.)

It's mostly cosmetic and trying to figure out how to clean up stuff. Since you've already found the place, I'll let the others play there if they prefer, but everyone must remember that things will be changing.
The new Legion World Message Boards
Leap Year Lord has spoken.
(Of course, in 15 days nobody will be listening . . .
)
Titans forum is down down down in the subbaculture!!
It looks terrific, Nighty! Great work!
Very slick!
Just poking around a bit, it looks there will probably be a bit of a learning curve with how to do some things we've gotten used to.
Some tags, for instance (bolding, centering, italics) seem to be a bit erratic with how they migrated over, but nothing earth-shattering.
Looking forward to getting the hang of the place.
Thanks, Nighty!
I'm scared.
oh wait nevermind .... I am LOVING the "what's new" function where it shows a preview of the latest posts!
I will be hanging out there often.
It's getting closer .... the big punch to reality ...
tee hee
I don't know if you are soliciting feedback yet, Nighty, on noted issues (perhaps this is already something that will be addressed during customization), but - while doing some post clean up for tags, I noticed that there is a 10,000 character limit for posts.
As some of the "Bits" posts would routinely be well above that limit, could this be increased? Thanks in advance.
Lookin' Good, Nighty!

I'll look into it. Please don't bother to clean up tags. I still need to run a script that will do that.
Sorry guys, but I'm starting a new position at work while still doing my old one and just don't have a lot of free time to devote to this atm, but I also don't want to half-ass it either. I was showing the new forum as a way to show there's a light at the end of the tunnel, but it'll probably be January that I actually switch us over (as I'll need all of my vacation time to try and work on this).
The problems with porting over forced my hand sooner than I was ready.
Ok. I've removed the character limit.
Thanks!
And no problem, man... the tag clean up was just me being anal retentive with my own posts by way of getting familiar with things.
I understand what a mammoth task this is, so no worries.
...and make sure you use some of that vacation for an actual... ya know... vacation.
Minor thing then - can you switch the dates to say (e.g.) "December 11, 2012" rather than 12-11-2012? The latter looks like the 12th of November to me (and probably all other UK Legion Worlders).
Originally posted by Nightcrawler:

I just guessed the URL, but afterward I checked and Mr. Google had found it too.

You definitely can't redo it? It seems like there's a LOT of stress for you caused by the fact that it's Been Done and we'll lose something like a month's worth of posts - if you could do a new transfer, then you could simply take as long as you need.
I'm fine with however long it takes.
One thing I noticed though:
We seem to have lost five members on the new board.

When I was doing the transfers not everything (especially the posts) would come over and the script is built in such a way that it overwrites and starts all over again. The VB guy that manages the importing tool also had numerous issues due to the age and modding of this board (and he knows what he is doing). The last port he did, gave us the most we both thought was possible and I made the decision that it was the best place to stop. This wasn't an easy process that can be repeated whenever I want to.
The month worth of posts can be re-posted manually. There's also a hack that I can use to rewrite the authors and the dates, if I have to move it all over myself.
I'll look at the date when I get home.

Remember remember the twelfth of November!!!
I really like the new version of the website. I especially like the addition of Groups.
Small detail. I tried to log in...not registered. Tried to register...e-mail already in use.
What shoudl I do?
I'll look into it.
Ah...vBulletin doesn't have the concept of log in vs. public usernames. Most people's names have been converted to their public name. Try that and let me know if there's still an issue.
I'll be looking into hacking the board to allow separate public names, but for now that's the way it is.
Hmm... so no name-changing on the new boards?

That worked. Thanks, I would not of thought to actually try that.
Remember I said Mr. Google found it?
Therefore, the spammers have too.
Thanks! I've finally figured out how to block registrations.

Not naturally. It'll have to be added on in some way.
Another thing I just noticed - one user (Phantom-Girl) seems to have been duplicated, with all her posts appearing under "imported_Phantom-Girl".

It's not letting me log in at all, at least for now.

I'll have to merge them when I get home. I had to do the same for me as I was pre-existing. Don't know why she is, though.

I just typed in the name, without the number on the end, Nighty. Was that correct?
My username is "rouge" but I had to log in as "Dave Hackett" so it looks like your display name is what you use.

Sent Prof an e-mail in case he hasn't seen this thread. He's done a lot of work in the "New Gods" thread this week and I'd hate for him to not realise what's going on.
So...maybe I've missed it, cause honestly I haven't read the entire thread... but is there a projected shift date when the new system comes online?
Don't know if you're looking for feedback, but the search function in Firefox places the typed characters in an invisible font. The search also threw me a DB error the first time I tried it and and took a long time to respond the second.

I haven't finished any of the CSS. This is not how it'll be when it opens. Right now just assume it'll get done by the time we switch over and then if it's not please let me know.
I looked for Search features yesterday to make changes and haven't found where that's at yet. I'm still learning how to deal with PHP and databases, so hopefully it'll not be too bad when we go live.

Seems fitting for a Legion message board. I'd keep that feature.

If you
install Stylish and add this as a rule, it should fix all the invisiblity problems:
@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);
@-moz-document domain("legionworld.net") {
.textbox, textarea, select, textarea {color:black}
#sidebar_container .userprof_content .blockrow {background:#222222 !important}
#sidebar_container a:link, .widget_content a:link{color:#afafff !important}
#sidebar_container a:visited, .widget_content a:visited{color:#8080ff !important}
#thumbnails {color:#2F2F4F}
#thumbnails a{color:#000080 !important}
#sidebar_container .blocksubhead, .cms_widget_header h3 {color:blue !important}
.newcontent_textcontrol {color:#afafff !important}
a.textcontrol{
background: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #000080 0%, #000060 44%, #000040 100%) !important;
color:#afafff !important;
border-radius:0.5em !important}
.pagination span a {border-color:#000080}
.pagination span.selected a {border-color:blue}
}
I'm getting database errors. Nothing particularly informative, just that the db has crashed:

I can't seem to log into the new site ...
Just had a similar and slightly-more-informative message at LegionWiki:
Legion Wiki has a problem
Sorry! This site is experiencing technical difficulties.
Try waiting a few minutes and reloading.
(Can't contact the database server: User legionwo_wikiuse already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections (localhost))
Looks like it may be a plain-and-simple capacity issue, since nuLWorld and LWiki share a database, yes? That bodes ill...
Originally posted by Power Boy:

Because the site isn't loading, or because you're trying to log in as "disaster boy" rather than "Power Boy"?
AH HAH! I am now in .... thanks Reboot .... and watch out ... Legionworld V2.
I "wandered" in without a hitch.
Okay, that box in the top right is... big. It looks like it's intended for use with a great big ad banner to its left, which leaves a LOT of dead space there (gone from 80px to the bottom of the blue bar to 177px. When you're on a netbook, that makes a BIG difference). Is there any need for the avatar in particular to be there?
Also, it takes away the link to the settings page (usercp.php), let alone one that doesn't require a dropdown to get to.
And while I'm <strike>moaning</strike> giving feedback
, going from 60 PM threads of up to 21 posts to 50 PM
posts is a big drop!

I suggest not going over there if it gives you this much aggravation. It is for all intents and purposes a test board that I'm working on when I have free time.
In my opinion we should all hold off on kibitzing and making a lather about the new site until at least IT'S ACTUALLY READY TO GO! Make sense?
It'll be up when it's up, and it'll eventually be the greatest thing ever. Nighty is already the greatest site owner we could ever ask for, and I'm sure the transition will eventually work itself out!
Meanwhile, HAPPY HOLIDAYS, everyone!
Guys, might I suggest we all back the heck off and let Nighty do his thang? When he's ready to drop it in place for us, and he's had a chance to catch his breath, then maybe we can start giving him some feedback? Man's doin a helluva lotta work right now. Lets all chill a bit.
Sorry, Lardy, didn't see your post. As you were, nothing to see here, move along people...
Well, I don't know how to feel about all of the jockular possibilites or, or, being retrobooted with all of the time missed!
It's all so Time Trapperish!
Yay! I can log in now!
Thanks, Nightcrawler. [smooch]
Just an FYI, the host of the site is migrating us to a new server over the next couple of days. So, you may encounter situations in which the website doesn't load.
Hopefully, it'll happen quickly and painlessly, if you notice any problems, please let me know.
Thanks for the heads-up, Nighty.

Is this going to be a brand new board or should most stuff transfer over?
I thought that all Legion Worlders and their posts had already been broken down into their little atoms and moved. They were all counted by Shrinking Violet & Brainy, so that they all reassembled seamlessly in the shiny, new server. Well, possibly second hand McCauley Omni-Server, but still...you probably didn't even notice*.
*McCauley Omni-Servers takes no responsibility for any sudden evil impulses as a result of you being reconstituted on the new server.
Not a new board and nothing on my end.
The host site was moving us/moved us? I'm still not sure as nothing seems to be screwed up yet.
