Teaching in the old neighborhood. Poverty and disability rates are high but so are personalities.
Sitting in my classroom after final bell recovering, listening to activity in the hallways after final bell. Cheerleaders cheering, sports teams running, the higher voices of the honors middle school kids coming in for advanced work, floors being swept, trash being emptied.... Final bell is a transport to a different world.
High school students are great at reminding you your place but college, yeah it feeds the ego. Just walking on campus, you get looked at and greeted differently. Students you don't know open doors for you, greet you... Maybe it's cuz I'm old.
