I remember really liking these stories.
Let's see if I can remember any details about them too.

It was a pretty good story! Even though it was toon-y, it was an intelligent story.

They should have done more. And they should have made them part of the regular continuity. That was the type of Legion story I wanted to read back then. It's funny that a story aimed at younger readers was a lot more intelligent than what PMS were giving us at the time.

I have to agree. Legionnaires being portrayed as competent, lots of action and drama mixed in with humorous moments, romance without being too cheesy...
Remember also my phrasing on active (at the time) Legionnaires.

Only one left!
Yes indeed. Over to you Future
This one has probably made its rounds on this board before, I'm sure. Cite the Legionnaire who said the following line:
"Don't be so straight, Element Lad."
Also not Drake.
I'll give a hint: all of the guessed Legionnaires were indeed members at the time, however none said the quote or were present in the scene.
Not Vi, though she was one of five Legionnaires present.
Another hint: this was said to Jan by a Legionnaire defending their partner.
From your clues I guessed it must be either the story where Jan, Tinya, Vi, Cham and Jo run into the Sun-Eater factory, or the one where they are recruited to destroy Tyrraz!
New Q up soon!
Sorry for the delay. Tried thinking of a question yesterday but didn't have the time.
Which four Legionnaires were shown to have died in the alternate reality of Titans:Legion Universe Ablaze?
Live Wire, Monstress, Karate Kid, and ...Brainiac 5?
What a memory you have, Future! Those are the exact four Legionnaires, and in a bit of foreshadowing, Live Wire and Monstress would both also die in Legion Lost.
Over to you, Future.
Name two Legionnaires, preboot, who spent time not once but TWICE in super-powered prison camps.
Cosmic Boy and Duo Damsel?
Not the two Legionnaires I'm thinking of, though if I'm forgetting a third "Legion prison camp" story just let me know!
Saturn Girl and Dream Girl?
Saturn Girl and Light Lass?
I'm not sure myself. I know Cosmic Boy and Duo Damsel were imprisoned twice, but I don't know if the other time was in a super-powered prison camp.
There's actually three instances I can think of now preboot, which adds a few more potential Legionnaires to the mix.
Due to that, both of you are correct! I'll give it to Blacula as he posted first. Imra and Nura were both prisoners of Universo's camp and the chain gang during the original outlaw story. Ayla was part of Nardo's stalag as well as the chain gang.
Imra is the only Legionnaire to serve hard time at all three prisons. She really was a badass.
Lu and Rokk were both prisoners of the Stalag as well as, during the threeboot, the Dominators. That may be the second instance you're thinking of, Ibby.
I was actually thinking of the Outlaw Legionnaires story, where Cos and Lu, plus Dirk and Garth, were caught and thrown in a different jail from the one the initial batch of prisoners were in. Both were also among Nardo's prisoners.
I had already considered both the Outlaw Legionnaires' Chain Gang and Nardo's Stalag, but rejected Legionnaires who were imprisoned in both because Three Legionnaires, and not two, were in both - Imra, Ayla and Tenzil. I overthought an reasoned that one instance could not be right because there were three possible answers.
Hm. Valid point about Universo's jailing of the four Legionnaires. I was thinking more along the lines of full blown super-powered penitentiaries and the chain gang stood out more than the Earth-bound prison. Was there anything special about that one or did they not really go into details?
I honestly can't remember. I do remember that other jail was shown on-screen because the free Legionnaires went and freed the four who were jailed there.
Who once said -
"NOW YOU'LL DIE, LEGIONNAIRES! NOT ONCE -- BUT A THOUSAND TIMES!"
- and who were they saying it to?
Mordru to Superboy and co?
Nope.
Clue: They were saying it to 3 characters.
Dr. Mayavale to Dream Girl, Karate Kid and Chameleon Boy?
It was the "die a thousand times!!!!" thing that got me!!
Here's a fairly tough one that promises to be fun (for me):
The situation: Thunder is trapped in the 31st century because the Rock of Eternity exploded into chunks of eternium. She needs to reassemble it in order to return to her home time as Thunder, otherwise she can only return as her non-powered self. However, unscrupulous individuals are trying to steal the eternium because, when used properly, it can grant great power to those who touch it.
Lord Pernisius of Rimbor is using his newfound power to draw all the eternium to Rimbor, granting him even more and more power. The Legionnaires present debate - do they stop Perny now? Or do they let him collect the eternium for Thunder first and THEN stop him, gambling that he won't be too powerful yet?
So the question: DO WE STOP PERNISIUS NOW? For each of the Legionnaires below, say whether the answer was YES, NO, or UNDECIDED. The winner has to correctly guess what each Legionnaire answered. YES means "stop him now", NO means "wait and let him collect the eternium first", and UNDECIDED means "can we use the Planetary Chance Machine maybe?"

I was about to post that my take on the Legionnaires must be a lot different from the writers, when I noticed I got them round the wrong way first time. Ah, the pitfalls of gadget posting.
New Question will be appearing imminently assuming Rond has got those time bubble settings right...
Sometimes I wonder myself if the Preboot versions would have had the same votes as their Postboot counterparts.
I think Garth, Val, Luornu, Brainy would have. Preboot Ferro Lad would have been more decisive.

Ta da! The New Legion Trivia Planetary Query Machine is in operation! Look as it sorts through all the Legion information that has arrived in our century! Wait! It's found something...
Which planet did the Legion encounter the Worldsmith trying to use his powers on?
For a bonus, what artifacts show that the Worldsmith has visited your planet?
Braal?
Artifacts - the Easter Island Statues?
Yay! This is an issue I must have read only once and packed away. It's got Sherman art too.
The Legionnaires - Element Lad, Cham, Superboy, Cosmic Boy and Jeckie bluff the Worldsmith into thinking he's not the only one with world shaping powers.
I wonder why Roxxas never hunted down Worldsmiths.
Over to you Ibbster!
I vaguely remember that. New Q coming up soon!
Oops, mea culpa. Forgot it was my turn.
Should be an easy one -
Which two Legionnaires asked extremely awkward questions of Dyrk Magz after he lost his Braalian powers?
Monstress and Element Lad?
Nope! Monstress was more sensitive than that.
Nope. I don't recall any on screen conversations between Magno and Andromeda.
Nope, Brainy may have been tactless then but he wasn't one of those who asked.
Hint: both askers are male.
Here's a list of all male Postboot Legionnaires. Magno is excluded, for obvious reasons, as is Brainiac 5 whom we have already eliminated.
Cosmic Boy
Live Wire
Chameleon
Leviathan
Invisible Kid (Lyle)
Star Boy
Gates
Ultra Boy
Element Lad
M'Onel
Ferro
Karate Kid
Wildfire
Chuck Taine
Gear
Timber Wolf
Superboy
Garth wasn't either.
You do get to guess two Legionnaires per post you know
Oops, I had it in my mind that Brainy was a correct choice
Ferro and Star Boy
And we have a winner!
Ferro asked poor Dyrk if he would give up his sense of taste or touch to regain his magnetism.
Star Boy asked Dyrk for advice on dealing with his lost powers.
So sensitive, right?
Over to you thothy!
Hey! Finally, a lucky guess! That's only taken over a year
New Question when I'm asking all the other ones on other threads...
On a trip to the Kwai galaxy as envoys, Lyle and Imra have a strong difference of opinion. But what was it over?
Imra disagreed with the Kwai's stand of providing the Progeny peace and shelter. She felt they were pure evil. Lyle disagreed and cited the Legion Constitution, and said that as long as the Progeny were no longer acting aggressively they should be protected.
Imra eventually came around - at the end of the issue in fact.
That's the one. It was an interesting exchange with both characters showing strengths and weakensses around their position & personality. It was good to reread it for the question.
Over to you Ibby.
It was definitely a good issue! Both could have handled the initial argument better but they settled it well in the end.
New Q up soon
XS has had 3 Legion crushes. Name all three.
Cosmic Boy, Superboy and Brainy
Mon El, Cham and Element Lad - or analogues
Nope
But two of he correct answers have already been guessed!
Xben! Good to have you back!
And you sir, are correct! The first two were crushes, the third was eventually mutual.
Over to you Xben
I try to float in here every once in a while.
Thanks for the note, IB - I'd forgotten to check if I was right. I remembered Cosmic Boy, was pretty sure about Magno, and just guessed Mon-El (err M'Onel) because of our clue.
New question soon.
OK, list of characters time:
At the end of #4 of Brave & the Bold, Batman encounters the Threeboot Legion of Super-Heroes. On the double-paged spread where they first appear, we see 17 figures. Name them all.
As usual, limit guesses to the number of unrevealed answers. First person to post all 17 wins.
Hope to see you around more Xben!
XS has a certain type doesn't she?
As for your question...
1) Cosmic Boy

I did a question where I nearly counted Duo Damsel twice, so are the missing two here Triplicate Girl and Triplicate Girl?
thoth lad is correct. The question specifically asked you to identify the 17 figures, not the 17 Legionnaires, so I think calling for Triplicate Girl three times is valid.
Then that means thoth's critical thinking has earned him a win!
Right?
>ignores tone of surprise in Ibby's post and does little dance<
Bah! Thoth's success is getting to his head!

Except Star Boy, Ferro and Triad didn't actually fight the Lanterns. Oh and Brainiac 5 appears too.
I'm picking up the slight hint that you've read this one Ibby
Oh, however could you tell, thothy?
That all reads correctly. So, is it any good Ibby? I've not actually read that one yet.
Next question is yours.
It was OK. XS, Ultra Boy, Spark and Invisible Kid were the only Legionnaires who really did anything. Kyle Rayner's descendant Cary Wren shows up and gets to be GL for a day. The evil Green Lanterns all got names and histories but none of that mattered because they were all interchangeable. A pleasant but fast read.
Thinking of a question....
Oh is that who Cary Wren is. I just saw her on the art thread.
Legion World is so educational, isn't it
The Postboot Legion visited planetoid JS-1967(Jim Shooter is that you? :p) twice - once to fight Mordru, and once to fight the Elementals who were trying to destroy Mordru.

2. Element Lad
3. Star Boy
4. Violet
5. Shady
6. Mon-El
7. Cham
4 correct! Thoth power is failing!
I should mention that one of the correct answers was not an active Legionnaire.
Okay, let's make this easier...

Okay, so my original question said 7, but after checking there were actually
8 correct answers.
1. Element Lad
2. Kid Quantum II
3. Star Boy
4. Umbra
5. Chameleon
6.
7.
8.
Gosh! No Vi. She was the one I thought most likely. What about...

6. Mysa
7. Dragonmage
8.
Good going, you got the two whom I thought would be hardest to guess!
Well Mordru's involvement with magic makes it an easier guess.
8. Monstress?
Why yes, it was Monstress!
So out of these four correct answers, two were never Legionnaires in that reality and two more only joined after the first battle on JS-1967. So much for Cosmic Boy's plan to boost mission participation by giving out free kono juice...
Over to you thoth!
Whew! That last one could have taken ages to guess.
Who was the other non Legionnaire?
New question.... sooooooonnnnn!
Dragonmage and Mysa were the two who were never Legionnaires.
Kid Quantum II and Monstress both only became Legionnaires after the first battle.
Ah, I'd mixed up my pre and postboot Dragonmages.
Yeah, he was one of the characters to get the shaft Postboot. Though he did better than, say, poor Blok or Quislet who never actually got Rebooted...
Why did Wildfire become leader and not Superboy?
Because Superboy was part time then?
Yay that was the third issue I looked at for a question as well
Oh, does that mean I guessed right?
Yeah, that was me typing as the train pulled into a station
Coolness
thanks!
I type a lot while walking to work too

Or perhaps a clever and very polite way to remind me to ask a Q!
Which 4 Legionnaires were absent during Foundations, and thus missed the terribly boring fight on Apokolips?
Crumbs.
Yes, all a clever plan on my part. D'Oh!
1. Andromeda
2. Spark
3. Garth
4. Triad
None correct!
By absent I mean, they were active members of the team then.
Thanks. I got the question, just didn't get anything right
I've only read this once...let the guessing continue!
Karate Kid
Ferro Lad - were they both away somewhere?
Jeckie/ Sneckie - identity issues
Star Boy
Mon El - I only recall Superboy being in it.
Shady
Gates
Phantom Girl
I think it was a team in the second galaxy, who were Mon El, Kinetix, Gates and Chameleons Boy if memory serves me right.
We have a winner! It was those four indeed who I was thinking about.
On the other hand, Kid Quantum II, Superboy (Kon-El), Violet and Live-Wire-in-Element-Lad's-body sat out the initial battle but showed up as the cavalry.
Over to you Harbi!
Thanks IB, so my question is what was Yera given as a wedding present and by whom?
I think she got a pendant from Marte Allon?
Sorry IB, I need a bit more than that to allow it as the present was very specific.
Was it some sort of soul pendant - that changes colours based on mood or emotion?
So close but no cigar Thoth.
The pendant that Marte herself wore to her own wedding?
Sorry IB, that's not correct
Pendant that... um... set with a very rare and precious gem?
You are so close but really I need a name. If no one has it by the weekend I'll give it to you IB.
Oh, a name... um... Rainbow jewel?
I'm trying to think if it was in a story that they could track someone through it. It had a connection to them. I'm thinking it was the LSV/ Colossal Boy story...but the name of it...
It was how they tracked them Thoth, you and IB are so close.
I think I remember Marte Allon wearing that when they were turned into glass...
Life Crystal?
I'll give you it IB, it was a life jewel from Marte Allon. You're up.
Thanks Harbi. New Q up soon!
Sorry for the delay... An easy one then.
How many outfits did Kinetix try on before settling on the one she wore to her Legion tryout?
All of them.
Nope and, while technically correct, nope
channels giffen grid...8 ...settling on the one in the bottom right panel.
No to both. You're getting a bit high there.
It was indeed 3. The outfit she settled on was her fourth.
Over to you thothy.
When Duplicate Boy lost his confidence, and his powers, how did his teammates help?
They hired an actress. Life Lass caused a car to almost hit her, and Duplicate Boy "saved" her life.
Yay! Correct. Over to you Ibby.
Oh yay! Ok time to think of another one...
When the Legionnaires went to Summer World, they so intimidated a crooked businessman that he confessed to stealing valuable items.
Which 6 Legionnaires did the intimidating?
Who is Cindi?
Only one right
Who is Cindi?
Only one right
rats I meant Candi
I know
darned auto correct
yeah, darned auto...Hi! I'm thoth lad's auto correct. He thinks he got away with blaming me for this, but he actually just got the character's name wrong. I've just "autocorrected" his version for this correct account.
Hmm, is thoth lad seeming a bit robotic lately?
I don't suppose his autocorrect would care to give another guess.
Is this question in relation to that execrable swimsuit issue? You know I've exorcised that issue from my mind IB.
Imra
Reep
Jo
Tinya
Jazmin
Gates
Yes it was, and it wasn't that bad an issue Blacula
I actually forgot I had an open question.
Anyway...
Only one right.

Weren't Jo, Tinya and Garth there as well? Maybe Brainy and Ayla cause she was the one that noticed the people were expecting to be paid and the legion thought it was for free? Pulling this up from memory, so it's probably mostly wrong.
Garth was there too but not the others you mentioned.
Most of the other Legionnaires besides the 6 correct answers were at the beach too. But only these 6 were there when the bad guy confessed.
Not my favorite issue but I think memory will serve for at least 66% of these.
Saturn Girl
Live Wire
Invisible Kid
Sensor
Element Lad
Kinetix
The first three were late arrivals. I know Zoe changed their suits. And Jan was on his jewel hunt. I feel like Jeka was with him because Candi and Jenni had abandoned him for Lori Morning already.
Your memory is sharp as ever Future, as that is the correct answer! You even remembered Candi and Jenni leaving and the 3 late arrivals.
Over to you.
At first I was shocked it would be hard to guess since XS and Monstress were so heavily involved with Jan's plot with the jewel, then I had to rack my brain when I remembered they bailed halfway through.
I think the humor in the scene is the Korugarian (I remember him being pink) confessing to three Legionnaires who just stepped off their ship and literally have no idea what's going on. So much for all your spent efforts the last year, Jan.
Name two Legionnaires who we know were supposed to appear in the New 52 mini-series "Legion: Secret Origin" due to cover previews, but who ultimately didn't make the cut?
One Legionnaire was prominently featured on a cover and then replaced by another hero when it was published, while a second still appeared on a published cover for the series but not inside the actual story.
I never read Secret Origin, so it's time to guess...
Star Boy and Shrinking Violet?
At first I was shocked it would be hard to guess since XS and Monstress were so heavily involved with Jan's plot with the jewel, then I had to rack my brain when I remembered they bailed halfway through.

Monstress was involved, but XS was not. She only showed up to bring Proty to Lori Morning. You're right though that Monstress bailed to join XS and Lori.
The bad guy was pink-skinned, but never quite identified as Korugarian. He also lacks their trademark pointy ears.
What was funny about the whole thing was that he was so paranoid at the presence of the Legionnaires. He knew Jan was looking for the crystals and other artifacts, and he guessed correctly that Jan was getting help from Imra, but he overestimated them. Jan and company were looking through shops, but the bad guy was a casino owner who wanted the crystals for his own private collection.
Star Boy and Shrinking Violet are correct!
Vi still appeared on the #5 cover despite never joining in-story and made a cameo at the end of the series. Thom was front and center on the solicits for issue #4, but was replaced by Gim on the cover and Jo in the story.
Your turn, Ibby.
Whew! Lucky guess. I remember seeing them both on covers, and thought that they would be logical "cuts" because they joined later than many other featured members.
Okay, let's see...
Who is Darren?
Was he a classmate in the 1950's Postboot Swan story?
Was he someone's love interest?
Nope.
A clue: he wasn't the most pleasant guy. He is a DNA creation.
Was he Kinetix's Sci-Cop partner?
Nope, that guy was Cill. But Darren appeared around that time.
Trudy Trusoe's camera operator?
Nope
Big hint: this character indirectly worked for Ra's
Oh. Is that Repulse's real name?
Oh, wait. He was Gates' "caregiver" during his Ra's imprisonment.
Correct! Darren was about to kill Gates when theLegion cut the power, allowing Gates a nice Batman moment as he scares the living daylights out of Darren. Over to you Future
PS i didn't notice you had two guesses in a row up there, but nothing in the rules about editing a guess before the asker responds so no problem there
i don't think anyone would mind
Name three Legionnaires across the Multiverse who have lost an arm in battle.
Preboot Lightning Lad
Postboot Live Wire
hmm... didn't 5YL Shrinking Violet lose an arm? Or was it a leg and an eye?
Vi lost an eye and leg in TMK.
And while I did mention the Multiverse, it was more to signify these three Legionnaires didn't belong to the same reality. They're actually three different heroes, so I'm only counting Garth as one for the purpose of this question.
A hint: I can actually think of six distinct Legionnaires who have lost an arm and they're all male. I'll only ask for three though because the instances are all over the place.
Garth (a couple of times)
Lar (at the end of the last series)
Rokk (in Superboy's Legion)
A guess at the others:
Threeboot Invisible Kid
Blok slightly before he lost all his other pieces
Maybe Ferro? Was that his injury in Legion Worlds?
EDE got five of the six I was thinking of. The last was Polar Boy in the retroboot. Blok, Lyle, and the first three round out who I was thinking of.
Your go, Eryk.
Oh yeah, Polar Boy! Should've thought of him.
Wow, more than I thought. I forgot Polar Boy because he got his arm back. Superboy's Legion Rokk too. And Threeboot Lyle.
Losing an arm isn't quite as big a deal now is it?
Nice one EDE.
Who was killed by Galadron?
Um... some old hero in the Silver Age?
Um... some old hero in the Silver Age?
No.
No.
Nope.
Hint: Not a relative of Jeckie's.
No. This is a named character, who appeared in multiple Legion stories.
Kimball Zendak? (I forgot how he died in the Retroboot)
Nope.
Hint: Galadron himself would soon be killed in the exact same way.
Name does not ring a bell, though the name makes me think of Transformers...
More random guessing...
Tarik the Mute's robot?
Was he Brande's assistant?
A rival sorcerer or sorceress?
No. He was hired by a rival of the character in question, however.
Hmmm...
a rival of Leland McCauley's?
Kodar? It sounds like a take on Galahad?
Hmmm...
a rival of Leland McCauley's?
Nope.
Kodar? It sounds like a take on Galahad?
Nope. It's not anyone medieval-themed.
A presidential candidate on Earth?
Nope. Again, this is a fairly major Legion character, who appeared in multiple stories over the years.
Hm, who else has died...
Circadia Senius? Was that how he died?
None of those three.
Of those, Rond Vidar is, in a certain sense, closest to being right.
Somebody's child? Maybe a child of Mordru's?
While I would assume the character had parents, they have never been depicted in Legion stories. Other relatives have, however.
Not Gym'll.
This character was killed prior to the 5YG.
i'm having trouble thinking of a fairly prominent supporting character who was killed before 5YG who could be the answer.
I'm mentally running through the Legionnaires who died and I'm pretty sure none were killed by this guy...
King Jonn?
Not King John.
Galadron's last words: "Arrrghhhh! My-- My Faceeee!"
Q: Who was killed by Galadron?
--it is a named character, who appeared in multiple Legion stories.
--Galadron would soon be killed in the exact same way as his victim.
--Galadron's last words were: "Arrrghhhh! My-- My Faceeee!"
--was killed prior to the 5YG
--Not some old hero in the Silver Age.
--Not Jeckie's father, cousin, or any other relative of Jeckie.
--Not a President of a U.P. World.
--Not Kimball Zendack.
--Not Tarik the Mute's Robot
--Not Brande's Assistant.
--Not a rival Sorceror.
--Not Kodar.
--Not any medieval themed characters.
--Not a presidential candidate.
--Not Cicadia Senius
--Not Tayla Wellington
--Not R. J. Brande
--Not Gym'll
--Not King John
--Not Rond Vidar, though, in a sense, Rond Vidar is close.
--Not the child of another character, though relatives of this character have appeared.
Not ringing any bells...
A Khund perhaps?
(Are you surprised by how long this question is taking to be answered, Eryk?)
Ummm, Reflecto?
Not Reflecto.
And, yeah, I didn't expect anyone to know it right off the bat, but I am kind of surprised that the clues I've given thus far aren't enough for someone to guess it. It's getting hard to come up with hints that won't give it away!
Here's what Galadron looks like.
Still does not ring any bells, but then i speed read through most of the Preboot era
Having a hard time thinking of deaths that would fit...
Ewa Krinn?
Not Ewa Krinn, though it was from a storyline written by Paul Levitz.
I don't recognize the character but that looks sort of like Lightle art.
Who could he have killed around then? Not Karate Kid... Not Mentalla...
Starfinger?
It's actually Greg LaRoque, but the answer *is* Lars Hanscom, the original Starfinger!
Poor Galadron was all set to receive a reward from the new Starfinger for killing his predecessor when he casually mentioned that he didn't understand why the guy had to be killed, which infuriated Starfinger II and led to his being killed by branding with the star symbol on his face as well!
Oooh. I have a few issues with the second Starfinger, and Starlight and Starbright. He was a villain I loved to hate, and I was glad to hear he got offed himself 5YL.
Nice going Blacula.
I love Galadron's final line. haha
Can't think of an interesting question right now so here's this one -
What do a fork-tailed cat, a feather bear, a monster blob, a rainbow beast, a balloon jellyfish and a totem-pole creature have in common?
Reep Daggle has shapeshifted into each of them?
That seems like it should be the correct answer, doesn't it? But it isn't.
They're all denizens of the Metropolis zoo?
No. IB's guess was closer.
All illusions created by Jeckie?
Nope. IB's guess still closest.
A Legionnaire has encountered each of them in person?
Chameleon
Chief has shape shifted into each of them?
No need to wink Future. Your guess is now the closest.
Chameleon Girl shapeshifted into each of them?
Not:
Chameleon Boy

OOoooohh! Controversy!
The answer stumps everyone for ages and then suddenly two people get it at the same time... but one of them is an "edited" answer!
However, IB's edited answer (at 10.20 pm) apparently occurred two minutes before EDE got his answer in (at 10.22 pm) so I guess IB just pipped EDE to the post.
Bad luck EDE!
And well done IB. The answer is indeed that illustrious member of the "Dog Legionnaires", Chameleon Collie.
Your Q.
Yeah, I think Ibby must have edited while I was typing.
Yeah, EDE's answer was definitely not there yet while I was editing mine. Thanks guys.
I had originally guessed Superman, then thought about Blacula's clue again and remembered the SCPA, so took a shot with Chameleon Collie...
As for EDE and I guessing the same guess, great minds
Which two Legionnaires are fans of Black Hole Layer Cake?
Nope.
Clue, both correct answers are female
Probably shouldn't be surprised, but you got it. They mentioned it in Legionnaires 42. Over to you Future.
I was trying to figure out when such a thing would be talked about. Sounded more like a Postboot thing. I was picturing it happening at Lori's birthday, though.
According to the letter pages, what happened to the goats Cosmic Boy put in Brainiac 5's lab in LSH v5 #2?
They... uh... got sent to the zoo?
Nope! No zoo for these goats.
They maybe got sent to Winath?
Nope.
Hint: they were not sent anywhere outside of Legion HQ.
I guess that rules out experimenting with the transporter then...
Brainy shrank them and keeps them in a cage in his lab?
... Micro Lad kept them as pets?
Nope!
Hint: There is a reason we never saw them again.
EDE is correct!
Though its debatable if it's canon since it happened in the whimsical threeboot letter pages, Shadow Lass serves up dinner to Karate Kid. When he asks what meat it is, Tasmia tells him to read the next letter, which specifically asks whatever happened to the goats.
Oooooh. I remember some of those silly letter pages. I think I'll go read them again.
for EDE!
I'll get a question up this weekend. I need to think of a DCU character as well!
Okay, let's go with this:
In his second successful election as Legion leader, Element Lad won over Brainiac Five 13-10.
Which Legionnaires voted for each candidate?
Wow. This is going to be a tough one, with so many.
I seem to be missing a Legionnaire... Can't remember who...

Woo-hoo! That was an extremely challenging logic puzzle. I really spent far more time than I should have pouring over each guess and trying to see what I could positively identify, as I had very little idea from my memory. Both of your clues ending up being essential, EDE. I actually had another guess almost ready to go until I saw that it gave Brainy 11 votes instead of 10, then it was going through it again with a fine-tooth comb until I saw that I could swap Wildfire from one list for both Lightning Lass and either Ultra Boy OR Shrinking Violet, which told me etc etc blah blah blah, and at the end I just had to guess which list to put Sun Boy and Invisible Kid into (since ALL of our previous guesses had them both with Brainy, there was no way to distinguish). I figured Jacques was probably still in grateful to / in awe of Brainy for giving him his powers.
Aaaanyway, I'll get another question up here soon...
OK, this shouldn't be too difficult...
What common creative concept is true for Garth, Ayla, Mysa, Val, Chuck, Jeckie (for a while), Condo, and Lar (sort of, briefly) but not for any other of the regular pre-crisis Legionnaires?
Yup, that's it (counting "Legionnaire Lemon" as a brief one for Mon-El).
You're up.
The Legionnaire Lemon hint and Jeckie's was what led me there. A great brain teaser.
7-11 ran a promotion in 1973, releasing 60 limited edition cups representing different DCU characters. Eight Legionnaires and two honoraries were featured on cups.
List all ten characters.
I tried to slyly hint at it with "common creative concept" as well.
There are 7-11 limited edition cups out there on the planet somewhere that feature members of the Legion of Super-Heroes?!??
Superboy
Supergirl
Cosmic Boy
Lightning Lad
Saturn Girl
Brainiac 5
Chameleon Boy
Mon-El
Jimmy Olsen
Lana Lang
I loved the last few questions. Some nice thinking needed.

I just searched ebay for these cups and saw some of the answers, though they are ones that I had already guessed. I'd never heard of them before. That Lois Lane one is crazy!
While you may have just learned they existed, you're hip to who the marketable Legionnaires were, Xben! Your answer is correct!
The promotion is an epic idea, though some of the choices are headscratchers. Not sure how a kid would feel if they were handed a cup with Pa Kent on it.
I'll come up with something in a bit.
I'm just amazed that a character like Wildcat was even known the general comic book reading public. I guess maybe Conway's All-Star comic was out by then?
Anyway, I feel weirdly tempted to try to buy these things on ebay for about $10 each, though I actually feel that's ridiculous.
A lot of the JSA/All Stars got cup releases, I believe for that reason or recent crossovers. Very different period on the character landscape, but nice advertising for the Legion and other properties that weren't the JLA.
Post pictures if you do buy!
Yes, I'd love to see pics as well!
I don't think I'm likely to do it. Partly because it seems like a ludicrous thing to spend money on. But also because looking at the pictures, a lot of the art on the cups are pictures easily found elsewhere.
Anyway, my question:
When we think of the Adventure-Era Legion, we generally think of 27 regular Legionnaires (from the founders to the last members to join, Timber Wolf and Chemical King).
However, I can think of at least 13 (possibly 14) other characters who were considered in one way or another to be members of the Legion of Super-Heroes during this time. I'm counting evidence presented on covers. Name all the characters.
(I'm a little worried that maybe I've missed one or more on this one, but I'm giving it a go)
Well, if you missed some we players can always justify an answer.
Do we guess 14?
1. Lana Lang
2. Jimmy Olsen
3. Pete Ross
4. Kid Psycho
5. Night Girl (Subs were Reservists right?)
6. Chlorophyll Kid (Subs were Reservists right?)
7. Proty II
8. Comet
9. Beppo
10. Streaky
11. Krypto
12. Polar Boy (Subs were Reservists right?)
13. Rond Vidar
14. Fire Lad (Subs were Reservists right?)
Only one of those is right - Polar Boy. I was counting Reserve Members or Honorary Members or whatever, but characters who were actually considered to be (even briefly) actual members of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
(And Polar Boy's qualification has nothing to do with him joining the team in the Levitz era)
1. Reflecto
2. Power Boy
3. Quantum Queen
4. Cosmic King
5. Saturn Queen
6. Lightning Lord
7. Dynamo Boy
8. Command Kid
9. Size Lad
10. Magnetic Kid
11. Blackout Boy
12. Command Kid
13. "False-Pretenses Lad"
Hmmm! I may have to think harder about these covers.
1. Polar Boy
2. Batman
3. Dev-Em
4. The Unknown Legionnaire
5. Starfinger
6. Nemesis Kid
7. Universo
8. Reflecto
9. Quantum Queen
10. Cosmic King
11. Saturn Queen
12. Lightning Lord
13. Don Allen
14. Dawn Allen
Only one, or at best two, of the answers comes from a cover. And you've got them both - Quantum Queen and Reflecto.
The ones I'd consider correct are:
1. Polar Boy
2. Nemesis Kid
3. Reflecto
4. Quantum Queen
5. Cosmic King
6. Saturn Queen
7. Lightning Lord
Oh, I missed EDE's guesses. So now, the correct answers guessed are
1. Polar Boy
2. Nemesis Kid
3. Reflecto
4. Quantum Queen
5. Cosmic King
6. Saturn Queen
7. Lightning Lord
8. Power Boy
9. Quantum Queen
10. Dynamo Boy
11. Command Kid
12. "False-Pretenses Lad" (the one I wasn't sure if counted or not)
Yeah, that's it. And I see now that I forgot about Blackout Boy, Magnetic Kid and Size Lad. So all-in-all, I'd say that's a win for EDE.
I'm curious, what made Polar Boy count as a full Legionnaire? This would have been too early for that alternate timeline story where COMPUTO "won" and the Subs joined.
Polar Man is a member in the Adult Legion story.
One could also throw in White Witch (whose Adult Legion membership was mentioned in a Superman story), as well as Color Kid and Douglas Nolan (who were revealed to have joined the Adult Legion in letters pages).
True, it was Polar Man, not Polar Boy who joined. And I didn't know about any of those others.
Ah, of course. Same story as Quantum Queen and Reflecto.
I always assumed all the Subs had joined the Adult Legion. I can't quite recall if I saw it in letters pages though.
Polar Man does say something about the two teams merging, and we see that Night Girl did not join, but I don't think they specify about the others.
Yeah, the story says that both teams had lost so many members that they decided to merge, but it's not specified who was on the resulting team. The only further info we are given is that the editor states on one of the letter pages that other members of the Adult Legion, such as Color King and (I believe) Sun Man, were off on a mission during that story.
New question:
Which two Legionnaires were created by George Vincent and Mike Rickford?
IIRC, the team merged while on Shanghalla. But only 5 team members actually attacked COMPUTO and the LSV. I wonder what happened to the others? I always assumed everyone present on Shanghalla was part of the new merged team.
IIRC, the team merged while on Shanghalla. But only 5 team members actually attacked COMPUTO and the LSV. I wonder what happened to the others? I always assumed everyone present on Shanghalla was part of the new merged team.
That's the LSH #300 story, not the Silver Age Adult Legion story.
And so it doesn't get lost:
New question:
Which two Legionnaires were created by George Vincent and Mike Rickford?
Triplicate Girl and Phantom Girl?
IIRC, the team merged while on Shanghalla. But only 5 team members actually attacked COMPUTO and the LSV. I wonder what happened to the others? I always assumed everyone present on Shanghalla was part of the new merged team.
That's the LSH #300 story, not the Silver Age Adult Legion story.
Oh yes, I was referring to that story. Didn't know the previous comments were on the Silver Age Adult Legion one. My bad.
Okay, the Adult Legion discussion and the other "lost" Legionnaires was fascinating. Thanks, folks! Great thing to wake up to.
My guess:
Chemical King and Timber Wolf
Shadow Lass and White Witch
Both characters have been guessed, but not by the same person!
I'll give it to whomever gets the correct combination.
Shadow Lass and Chemical King?
I think IB must be correct, as they both debuted in the same issue.
But still, I'll through out White Witch and Chemical King.
Ibby has it. It is Shadow Lass and Chemical King, as revealed in an issue of the Legion Outpost.
See
this article for the deets!
I was trying to think of Legionnaires who debuted together too.
Speaking of the Reboot Legion, what do Violet, Gates, Star Boy, Karate Kid, Wildfire, Shikari, Gear, Timber Wolf and Dreamer have in common?
Nope.
It has to do with their pasts.
They all met Legionnaires before joining?
Nope, many others besides them would have met that condition.
It is something about their personal lives.
Bad relationship with their parents?
Very close! It has something to do with their parents.
We never saw their parents.
That's it. Wildfire had families mentioned but we never actually saw them. And Star Boy's Legends of the Legion spotlight started with him leaving the Amazers to join the Legion, so no parents appeared either.
Many of the other Legionnaires only had one parent appear on screen, but enough to justify their exclusion.
Over to you Future.
In JLA: Another Nail, Aquaman and Wonder Woman are stranded in the prehistoric past when the trail of a time bubble intersects with their Boom Tube. Luckily, the two remorseful Legionnaires and their children rescue the heroes and bring them home.
Who were the two Legionnaires?
Ultra Boy and Princess Projectra.
Correct. Ultra and Princess Projectra traveled back in time with their kids (well, Jo's kids - they were clearly Tinya's and Jeckie was referred to as his second wife).
And the daughter basically confirmed Tinya was her mom, if I remember correctly.
Okay, let's see...
When Rip Hunter tried to make sure Booster Gold's origin would play out as planned, he had to steal a flight ring and a time bubble. Whose flight ring did he steal?
OK, just throwing out a random guess here...Sun Boy?
Yes, it was Brainiac 5. Back to Future.
Was that in the tale end of the last Booster Gold series? I feel like I'm recalling B5 giving it up to preserve history.
It was around issue 9 or 10 of the post-Infinite Crisis series. I know Brainy also gave up his ring for Booster's sake on another occasion, but without Rip Hunter's involvement.
Got it, got it.
Who once gave Harmonica Dadaesque a tour of Legion Headquarters?
And Ibby has it again. Back to you (it was in Who's Who in the Legion #5).
Who is a big fan of bluegrass music?
Superboy? He is from Kansas (which is kinda close)
Nope.
Hint: this character IS male
Nope.
Hint: This tidbit was revealed during the Reboot era.
Not cosmic Boy or Gates
Hint: this character revealed the liking for bluegrass music during an interview
Nope.
Who is a big fan of bluegrass music?
- Male
- This liking was revealed in the Reboot, and during an interview
- Not Karate Kid, Mon-El, Superboy, Cosmic Boy, Ultra Boy, Gates, Ferro
Yes! It was RJ.
Over to you Future.
What do Chemical Kid, Dragonmage, Magno, Saturn Girl, Princess Projectra, Veilmist, and XS have in common?
No, sir (for some of them, anyway). It doesn't involve their parents.
I'm sure this is not correct, but the best I could come up with for now - they all share their powers with another Legionnaire. (Not true with Jeckie and many others also fit the bill)
It's true there's some overlap in their powers with other heroes, but indeed that isn't the commonality or more would qualify. To my knowledge across all major realities, this link is only true for these seven.
Hint: The only possible fringe exception is Superboy's Legion Lightning Lad.
Hint: Princess Projectra qualifies twice.
Hmm... I was going to guess height or weight, but I don't think detailed profiles of Superboy's Legion members were ever published, and I don't think his height or weight has ever been published.
I'm thinking it must be something visual though...
I've been thinking about their costumes over and over but can't think of anything.
I'll just guess - they are all the same height?
Nope! Nothing to do with physicality.
Hint: Every Saturn Girl qualifies, but not necessarily every Projectra.
Okay, back to the drawing board...
Maybe something about the costumes still. But what?
All their costumes use the same colors?
Not a costume motif either. Veilmist's skimpy black duds don't lend too well to association.
Hint: Preboot Jeckie qualifies as both Projectra and Sensor Girl.
I was also thinking of code names or real names, but cannot think of anything that would apply to only them and no others.
Hmm... do they wear their flight rings on a certain finger?
I had thought of a trivia question like that before, but I think the only definitive source was from the old Reboot AOL chats and not completely encompassing.
Hint: While Dragonmage, Magno, and Saturn Girl qualify for this connection..it isn't as much as the other four.
Hint: It's harder to discern if any of the threeboot Legionnaires share this connection. Saturn Girl at least does.
Very much stumped.
Perhaps... Is their MMB symbol also found on their costumes?
Nope. Veilmist throws that off again.
What do Chemical Kid, Dragonmage, Magno, Princess Projectra, Saturn Girl, Veilmist, and XS have in common?
- does not involve costume motifs or colors.
- does not involve their powers or the occasional power duplication by other Legionnaires.
- does not involve their Monitor Board symbols.
- does not involve their height.
- does not involve their parents.
- every Saturn Girl iteration qualifies.
- Preboot Princess Projectra counts twice, both as herself and as Sensor Girl.
- of the minor realities, Lightning Lad from Superboy's Legion also qualifies.
Hint: If we expand to include the Subs, Night Girl qualifies as a Sub but not as a Legionnaire. On the flip side, TMK Infectious Lass qualified as a Lost Years Legionnaire but not as a Sub.
Does it have to do with the order in which they joined their respective teams?
Did they all join the team at the same time as a group of other new heroes, but were all the only person of their gender within that group?
Xben has it! All of these Legionnaires were inducted in groups of three or more, but were the only representative of their gender in the group.
Hadru joined alongside four women. A sharp contrast from the first few decades when it was unsurprising Jeckie was the only girl inducted with groups of boys.
Wow--that was a really satisfying question to figure out. Nice one, Future. I'll post one when I think of it, although I'm afraid it won't be as good...
As soon as I saw Xben's guess I knew it was correct. Nice one. When I was thinking of short-tenured Legionnaires like Magno I was wondering if it had something to do with them leaving the team, not joining...
OK, so what is true of Gim Allon, Tinya Wazzo and Rond Vidar that I don't think is true of any other full time, reserve or honorary Legionnaire?
Hint: These characters don't all come from the same 'boot of the Legion
This promises to be an interesting one.
Different power sets in different realities that they have appeared in?
They each had a parent who was President?
Oh nice one. I was thinking about Marte and Winema too but forgot that Universo was actually President before.
Yup, KryptonKid had it.
I thought if necessary, I was going to throw out a hint how if we combined details from different 'boots, Reep Daggle would qualify as well.
Who were Plasma, Dynasaur, and the Time Trapper?
Hero dial/alternate identities of Lori Morning?
Man, IB, you're fast! And exactly right.
Have at it.
Those were some of the first issues I ever read. Which can be good or bad depending on your perspective
Will think of a new Q soon
What do Dreamer, Gear, Karate Kid, Kid Quantum I, Kid Quantum II, Leviathan, Shikari and Timber Wolf have in common?
They never traveled through the time stream?
Yes, but something unique to them.
They never traveled through the time stream?
Again, correct, but something unique to them.
They were all written by Mark Waid?
I'll have to check on that, but even if true it would certainly not be unique to them.
Perhaps a few hints will help...
This does have something to do with their membership.
It also has something to do with a place they have or have not been.
They have not been in a fold out poster by Alan Davis?
Yes, but you will have to specify which poster exactly.
...the fold out poster by Alan Davis from Legionnaires #50?
Which Legionnaire was defeated by Windstrom?
I always wondered if Windstrom was supposed to be Windstorm.
New Q up soon.
What do Lightning Lad, Phantom Girl, Invisible Kid I, Bouncing Boy, Shadow Lass, Chemical King, Invisible Kid II, Infectious Lass, Visi-Lad, Dragonmage, XS, Magno, Kid Quantum II, Thunder, Chemical Kid have in common?
Each character's first and last names have the same amount of letters.
Have you ever asked this question before, or are you just eerily good?
Over to you Future.
I think credit goes to the sample size. I was able to weed out a lot of possibilities fast, especially with Garth present but not Ayla.
By 2004 and excluding the Glorithverse/SW6, which two Legionnaires had been rejected for membership in more than one reality, but then ultimately joined?
Polar Boy and Dream Girl?
Bouncing Boy and Wildfire?
Polar Boy and Chlorophyll Kid?
The two correct answers have been guessed, but not together.
Bouncing Boy and Dream Girl?
Andy has it.
I was specifically thinking of Superboy's Legion, which showed Dream Girl and Wildfire auditioning but not joining. They were later in the closing team shot as members. This mirrors Drake's Preboot and Nura's Postboot auditions initially being rejection. Half of Postboot Drake, Blast-Off, also auditioned and was rejected.
Ah, I was wondering whether you meant that they had been rejected and THEN joined in both realities. I sort of remember Dream Girl appearing in Superboy's Legion auditions, but not Wildfire though.
Which hero was the first to die against Nardo?
I totally forgot about this! Now I've got both trivia questions to come up with!
Let's try this:
What do the following preboot Legionnaires have in common?
Brainiac Five
Cosmic Boy
Element Lad
Ferro Lad
Lightning Lad
Phantom Girl
Projectra
Shadow Lass
Shrinking Violet
Sun Boy
Superboy
Ultra Boy
Wildfire
Hint: Cosmic Boy, Sun Boy, and Wildfire qualify twice, and Superboy qualifies three times if you include his career as Superman!
Okay, I'm totally focusing on Ferro Lad now because of his short career. I can't think of anything right now though...
... encounters with the Fatal Five?
Nope!
Lots of Legionnaires have encountered the Fatal Five, such as *choke* Invisible Kid!
*sob*
Encounters with the Sun-Eater?
Yes! These were the characters featured in the three major Sun-Eater stories (the Fatal Five, DC Comics Presents/Mongul, and Time and Time Again). I thought about including the Baxter era story where the Lost Legionnaires find a Sun-Eater factory, but that would have only added Chameleon Boy.
I was aware of Time and Time again (Violet and Wildfire at least) but not the Mongul story. Cool, and nice Q EDE.
Will have a new Q up soon
What do Apparition, Triad, Brainiac 5, Violet, Kinetix, Umbra, Monstress, Wildfire have in common?
They all received new costumes during their tenure as Legionnaires?
Yup. Tinya's wasn't very evident but her new costume, around the time of the Dark Circle story, had some black bands.
The funny thing is I feel like I had that answer days ago, but hesitated to post because I felt like maybe it was more nuanced than that.
New Q soon.
Poor Mega. She didn't even really want to help with the mission. And she wasn't even really part of the gang either.
Some great action and awesome lines in that story though.
New Q up soon
Poor Mega. She didn't even really want to help with the mission. And she wasn't even really part of the gang either.
Some great action and awesome lines in that story though.
New Q up soon
Who was Mega? I don't remember this character
Appeared in the SW6 Legionnaires series, she was a non powered female member of Mano"s gang. She was arrested by the Legion. She claimed to not be a "true" member of the gang and helped some Legionnaires infiltrate Mano's hideout, only to be killed.
In which country did the Postboot Subs have their HQ?
Nope.
The correct answer IS an existing modern day country though.
Nope. This country is a UN member state and is not located in Europe.
Nope. This country ends in the same letter as China does though.
In which country did the Postboot Subs have their HQ?
- modern day country
- UN member state
- not in Europe
- ends in A
- not France, England, China
Not Russia. This country does not have territory in Europe.
No to all three.
None of you have the correct continent so far.
The correct country is in South America, but is not Argentina or Bolivia.
Just guessing... Venezuela?
In which country did the Postboot Subs have their HQ?
- modern day country
- UN member state
- in South America
- ends in A
- not Argentina, Bolivia, Venezuela
Wrong continent for Guatemala;
and French Guiana is not a UN member.
Guyana it was. Over to you Future
How random. No wonder the Legion never crossed paths with them.
New Q later.
Which character's favorite music is "legit-stage"?
Nor Marla.
Hint: it's a Legionnaire.
No to Brainy! I guess he doesn't like legit things.
Who has a favorite music genre called legit-stage?
Not...
Brainiac 5
Chameleon Boy
Cosmic Boy
Marla Latham
RJ Brande
Hints:
- Legionnaire
- This character likes more music than just "legit-stage," it was just the genre I found most entertaining!
Not Tenzil.
Hint: This information was from a text page (so that should narrow down the era/Legionnaires), though not necessarily where you would first think.
Shrinking Violet (or her clone)?
No to the above guesses. Let's add some hints.
Who has a favorite music genre called legit-stage?
Not...
Brainiac 5
Chameleon Boy
Cosmic Boy
Marla Latham
Matter-Eater Lad
Polar Boy
RJ Brande
Shrinking Violet
Ultra Boy
Hints:
- Legionnaire
- Their other favorite kinds of music are classical, opera, and a type of waltz (which I won't reveal as it spoils the homeworld)
- Information from a text page
- This information is gleamed from an excerpt published in 2973 ... Though we the reader see it for the first time in 1992. How spoiled we are!
Ibby has it!
The 2995 Sourcebook contained lots of great text pieces. My favorite were the "fan club profiles" from the 2970s that featured a deluge of random, new information about Legionnaires such as Saturn Girl...who loved legit-stage and Titanese waltz music genres.
Wow! That was such a random guess. Though in hindsight it's not too surprising that Imra would like genres such as those.
New Q up soon!
Close but not quite, if i base it on the menu. But close enough so i will give it to you.
Worog's was mentioned in LSH v4 100. Cos and Imra and Garth wanted to order banyo shakes anf soystix. Makes me think more of a diner or ice cream parlor.
Thanks, IB
Which Legionnaire teamed up with Lobo against the Luck Lords?
just trying to be fair as Worog's has never actually appeared.
Superboy?
Not Kal-El, Kon-El, or Mon-El.
Hey! What happened to my avatar? grumble grumble
It is not Saturn Girl.
It is not Valor, Superboy, or Lightning Lad.
Hint: The Luck Lords had stolen something from one of the Endless, and our Legionnaire was trying to get it back.
You are half right, but not Dreamy.
No, not Dream Boy. I was looking at the other half of "Dream Girl".
Sorry, its not Tinya.
It is not:
Valor
Superboy
Lightning Lad
Saturn Girl
Dream Girl
Dream Boy
Phantom Girl
This issue was from Mark Waid and George Perez.
No, not Dream Boy. I was looking at the other half of "Dream Girl".
Thought so, but wanted to be sure.
Hmm...
Shadow Lass?
No, it is not Dawny.
Recap:
Which Legionnaire teamed up with Lobo against the Luck Lords?
The Luck Lords had stolen something from one of the Endless, and our Legionnaire was trying to get it back.
Character is a girl.
It is not:
Valor
Superboy
Lightning Lad
Saturn Girl
Dream Girl
Dream Boy
Phantom Girl
Shadow Lass
Dawnstar
Blacula has it.
In the Brave and the Bold (#4?) 2007, there were several people vying for the Book of Destiny. Supergirl enlisted Lobo's aid.
Fairly easy question:
Which Legion homeworld shares a name with characters from Greek mythology?
Not what I was thinking of but clearly correct. haha
I was thinking of Dryad.
Over to you IB.
Oh, Dryad! Poor old Dryad, I keep remembering how it exploded in the Reboot.
What was Babbage's retort when accused of being a suck-up?
He does not breathe, therefore he does not suck.
When the cloned Wanderers first set out on adventures, they ran across three Legionnaires in the middle of a mission. Who were they?
Mysa, Drake, and Ayla a few issues after the beginning?
Wildfire, Dawnstar and Sun Boy?
I remember that story. Not bad and it gave everyone on both teams a chance to shine. The series itself soon fizzled out though.
Woo!
The Legion of Supervillains has had four members who've been part of the other side, be it the Legion of Superheroes or the Substitute heroes. Which four members are they?
Spider-Girl
Echo
Nemesis Kid
Storm Boy
Ronn-Karr
Spider Girl
Nemesis Kid
Echo
IB has a strong showing, being that Storm Boy was a 5 Year Gap Legionnaire and a member of the (very expanded) Superboy PRime LSV, but I was looking for the Substitute as well, and that means Myg has it!
Oh wow - That was unexpected
I knew my soft spot for Ronn-Karr would come in handy someday
Errr...
Now I have to come up with a Q...
Ronn-Karr was pretty call 5YL!
What do Luornu Durgo, Salu Digby, Drake Boroughs, Projectra, Brin Londo and Mysa Nal have in common?
Their fitst code names did not contain Boy girl Lad Lass or Kid? (If you count 5YL retcon that had Lu start out with Triad)
Not what I was looking for
And, by your logic, then Tellus, Quislet, Gates, XS, Blok and Dawnstar (at least) would have also qualified
Haven't thought about this much so haven't eliminated many possibilities, but...
They have all experienced bodily/form changes that have not been reversed?
Lu - lost one body
Salu - gained ability to grow
Drake - turned into anti-energy
Mysa - her albino form vs. her Naltorian form
Brin - Furball mutation which was never completely reversed
Jeckie - from snake to naga form
Although Monstress would also qualify...
Nope that's not what I was going for
Though they do have that in common with other Legionnaires
I'm probably not thinking hard enough about this, but how will I learn if I don't guess?
uuuuuuhhhhh...
Were they all held "captive" at one point.
Lu - by Computo, Postboot
Salu - sens-tank
Brin - thought he was an android for a while
Jeckie - uhhhh by her evil grandma
Mysa - by Mordru
Drake - ??? Well he disappeared for a while because of Black Dawn
Has their eye color been changed over time / realities?
Not the kidnapping (though that is kind of neat)
And not their eye color
Don't overthink it
Care to give any more clues, Andy?
I've done some thinking on code names, powers, join order, costumes, real names, physical characteristics but can't seem to think of a link.
LOL
It does have to do with code names
Yay! Nice clue thanks.
... Their code names changed with an accompanying change in powers/physical form?
Lu - become Duo Damsel upon losing a body, became Duplicate Damsel upon gaining ability to create multiple selves
Vi - became Leviathan upon gaining power to grow
Timber Wolf - Furball, need I say more
Projectra - expanded powers, became Sensor Girl
Mysa - from Hag to White Witch
Wildfire - used to be ERG-1. Postboot, was also Atom'x and Blast-Off
Yes that will work
I was looking for changes in code names since they started
You got it, Ibby
Cool, thanks Andy, appreciate the clue. Though at first I thought this wouldn't be it as Ayla should have qualified, also Postboot Brainiac (who went by Brainia 5.1 for a while) and Mon-EL (who has gone by Valor in some realities). And Superboy/Superman
Nice Q though
I'll give a new one soon
Name three men who have had a romantic interest in Kinetix.
Leviathan, Radion, and Atom'x?
Ultra Boy, Cham, Bouncing Boy?
Future is correct!
Mutual flirtation with Gim; the other two wanted to impress her which led to Atom'x being "killed" by Mordru
I couldn't think of the other two for a minute, but once I remembered Atom'X I recalled Radion.
When 5YL Dirk was on life support by the Dominators after being incinerated, who tried to pull the plug to let Dirk die but couldn't bring themselves to do it?
Color Kid/Color King/Ulu Vakk
I'm with NSBL in that it was Ulu. I think that Ulu was also a member in the Five Year Gap, and shows that not everyone's view of Dirk was a little tarnished by that period.
NSB Lad has it. It was Ulu / Color Kid.
Hooray! And I agree with Thoth that it's very interesting to see Ulu's reaction like this: to my knowledge, Ulu and Dirk hadn't interacted on-panel all that much, and Ulu was one of the Gap Legionnaires and I don't think he was chosen at random to be the one to have feelings about putting Dirk out of his misery. I feel like there's a part we're missing re: Dirk and Ulu's relationship in their short tenure together in the Legion that was unseen.
Trivia Time!
Can anyone named all the known villains (just the LSH Baddies known to be in the pods, and not the other characters) held in the Weisinger Chambers in the same storyline mentioned in the previous question?
Hmmm how many are there? Sounds fun though, let me begin the list...
Caress
Flare
Does Grinn count?
Does Ronn-Karr count?
fun question...
I'd just like to add that I thought I'd missed out on Legion stories involving Drake's brother. It was frustrating until I read they just made him up. Not one of their better ideas (pictures Fickles popping up with "they had *better* ideas?
)
In that issue where Universo subdued them, there was Charma (or sister thereof) and Black Mace.
I think Holdur and Quicksand might have been in there too.
Charma was dead by then, I think it was her daughter with Grimbor, Cocheta. But good catch.
And yeah, funny how Drake suddenly had a brother named Squire who was also an anti-energy being in a containment suit...
Granted maybe the Dominators gave him those powers but still...
Caress and Flare would count, but Ron-Karr and Grinn were not held in the Chambers at any point, and it was Charma's daughter and not Charma in the Chambers, correct. And yeah, Squire out of left field was _very_ odd...
And Holdur was in there, but Quicksand was not; I can tell you that we're missing three that definitely fought the Legion they had in the Chambers.
There was a Ghost 6 and an Elastic Lad I think
Persuader?
Micro Lad?
Esper Lass?
Ghost and Elastic were never found in the Chambers.
And those would not be the three!
Absorbancy Boy
Sun Emperor
I thought you were onto something when you mentioned Ghost and Elastic Lad. That was the fun take on the Fantastic Four with Flare (from the fatal five) and someone called Alloy. Mostly taken out by Sade (who really annoyed me right from the start, as a clear writer's pet.) Legion super fan Flynt Brojj was there as were Crystal Kid and Catspaw.
I think you're right with Absorbency Boy.
I remember Myg being in there (technically Val was opposed to him on Lithyl
)
Polecat was there. I've no idea if he ever actually fought the Legion but you never know.
Radiation Roy? He'd be another former applicant. IA bit of a big hitter for the chambers.
There's someone I'm mistaking for quicksand... gah!
Sade...man she coulda been fun, but there was like _nothing_ to do with her; she was too 'kewl' to hang with the Subs but not enough of a jerk to be an out-n-out villain...
And Absorbency Boy and Radiation Roy were two of the others! Myg was there but ain't _really_ a baddie
One left! I guess the W will go to the person who gets the last one?
Yes, usually the win goes to the poster who made the last correct guess
Awesome, and thank you for the clarification, Ibby!
There's someone I'm mistaking for quicksand... gah!
Quake Kid! I was thinking of Quake Kid. I just tripped across the name on The Return of the Mack thread. Except he was just a failed applicant... bah...
Since Roy was in there, I was thinking of Spider Girl. That's led me to Ben Pares. He was part of the text pages that introduced Spider Girl later on, and he may have been captured trying to get the artefact she ended up with.
I owe ya'll an apology! The last one I was looking for was Black Mace, but Thoth already said it! Sorry, ya'll!
No worries! You may have to apologize to thoth for.making him have to think of a Q though
slippers on....tea made...cat petted... ah, peacefully free of Legio...WHA?! QUESTION?! GAAAAH!
No...no bother here... none at all...rassen..frassen...
*shakes head* and thoth's therapy was going so well....
What did Superboy persuade 4 Legionnaires into doing when he visited Legion HQ for the Christmas holidays?
Finding the star that led the Magi to
Baby Jesus?
Well my dirty mind thought of a range of festivities that were probably not Comics Code approved
So I'm pretty sure THAT didn't happen
I'm thinking Ibby is right on this (it rings a bell)... but I'm going to go with... finding Santa Claus and getting justice for all the children who don't get gifts
Vengeance for the kids! And Kal lets out his childhood angst at never getting that toy plane he wanted...
Ibby has it in one! There was me thinking that as it didn't appear in a normal Legion comic, it would be a little tougher than normal. I'm not sure I'd read it before either. Garcia-Lopez and Giordano art!
Over to you Ibbster!
I think I read it in a recap/chronology long ago
New Q up soon!
Apologiea for holding this one up and thanks fkr the reminder Blacula
An easy one...
In Kinetix's Legion tryout, what was the dominant color of her outfit?
Nope. That was the predominant color of her first costume, but not her tryout outfit.
Nope! She would not wear green until her re-powerment by Mysa.
Indeed! Fourth outfit she tried on too.
Which two female Legionnaires did not receive a costume submission in the infamous "Fashions from Fans" feature back in Action Comics?
Light Lass
Shrinking Violet
Thoth has it!
Kara and Nura failed to make the grade, though I do believe Supergirl had her own fashion feature later. Night Girl even got in on the action, while only five boys had submissions...one being Chlorophyll Kid oddly enough.
I'd not have picked Supergirl had Myg not mentioned her, so assist points due there
New Q soon...well, as soon as get to the boxes...
Let's give thanks...for this new question...
Let's give thanks...for this new question...
Yikes! There was me thinking I didn't have any open questions after my Titans one.
I give thanks for the electric shock from Ibby's Cattle Prod of Gentle Reminder, and shall dig out a question later...
Which Silver Age Justice League villain activated some of the exhibits at the Time and Space Museum?
Xotar the Weapons Master?
Yay! I thought you'd get that one quickly, but that's the fun of the random picks.
The best part was trying to recognise all of the old DC robots in the background. Ultivac, Star Hawkins' side kick, Automaton etc.
Xotar was quite a creepy character as depicted by Sekowsky. He had that aged look that a lot of his characters did, and it added a certain desperation to him.
Over to you Ibbs!
That was one of the very last Reboot-era issues I obtained. Oh wait, was this depicted elsewhere? I was thinking of the Legionnaires 68 story with art by Jeff Moy. Lucky guess I guess
New Q up... soon!
That sounds about right. There was a scene with Monstress trying on clothes, then Cosmic Boy against Xotar at the museum.
Yup, that was it. I was distracted by all the Monstress color-changing in that issue.
According to the Reboot era, what was the main industry of Orando?
Nope. Sensor hated dressing up.
Nope. I suppose snakes would find that useful, but no.
Mining. If more specific, I think diamonds?
I am not sure if diamonds were specified, but mining is correct!
Uli Algor infiltrated the Legion by posing as which Legionnaire?
Ibby has it. In a neat twist, she was pretty minor in the story where she was posing as Shady, but turned up later as a more effective villain. Well. For one story at least.
To be fair, in her first story she did a decent job, successfully fooling four Legionnaires, including Mon-El and Dream Girl - at least for a while.
She really kicked it up in her second appearance, taking down the 3 founders, Night Girl and Phantom Girl!
New Q up soon!
Oops, sorry for the delay.
What insulting word made Kid Quantum II angry enough to punch out a SKlarian raider?
Nope. May be true but the correct answer here is one word
James?
Mistaking her for her brother. Hey it's happened before in the Legion
Not in the outfit she was wearing at the time
Wasn't that the guy in the Titans?
Cowardly?
It was Coward! Kid Q was using her stasis field powers, Sklarian insulted her, so Kid Q bopped her on the head.
Over to you thoth
How did reboot Dirk Morgna punish Regulus for experimenting on him?
Indeed he did. Which I thought was a bit harsh and un Legion like (although he hadn't joined). Was there any fall out (oooh Regulus pun
)from that Ibby?
Over to you for the next Q too!
No fallout as I imagine they would justify it as Dirk just having been tortured and not knowing his powers, plus Regulus killed two employees and a ton of Sci Cops
Name one Legionnaire with at least 3 siblings
Yes! Dyrk had 3 siblings, as revealed in Legionnaires 53.
Over to you Blacula.
I love
.
Easy Q: Which 4 Legionnaires replaced which 4 Marvel characters in a recreation of a classic Marvel cover?
You'll be happy with the changes I've made with him in my fanfic then
Hmm... recreation of a classic Marvel cover... I think I know which one, but can't quite remember which Legionnaires.
I'll guess:
Duo Damsel
Superboy
Mon-El
Shadow Lass
There's one I'm trying to remember, but in the meantime...
The Thing = Blok
Human Torch = Sun Boy
Invisible Woman = Invisible Kid
um...
Mr Fantastic = Elastic Lad Brainy?
it was one of the covers when DC were trying to unpick the Superboy/Crisis issues.
Oh, wasn't that the away team that guest starred in Superman? Cool!
That's the one, but there's something about some of your answers that's ringing a bell...
I actually have no idea which cover is being imitated. My guess is just based on my memory of memorable 4-Legionnaire stories.
Unless IB is referring to a cover I've forgotten, TL has it.
This cover...
http://www.comics.org/issue/43196/cover/4/... is a recreation of a Fanastic Four cover which I can't find right now.
Over to you TL.
Oh yeah! It's the cover with Gladiator on it
Can be seen here:
http://www.comicvine.com/forums/battles-7/gladiator-vs-fantastic-four-613035/And no I still don't know how to post pics on this site...
@ Myg Using a .jpg image as a n example.

Lar Gand is released from his imprisonment at the hands of Yuga Khan. He tells Metron that they will need to summon all of Earth's heroes to battle Khan. But why does this not happen?
Because... because... (say who the heck IS Yuga Khan?)
The heroes were already there?
Not because they were already there. The heroes, as far as I know, weren't grouped together before Lar said that.
Yeah, I know. I've no memory of getting this. In fact, the only reason I have it has to be because of the Lar Gand appearance. Definitely a bargain bin purchase.
It didn't happen because... uh... Metron teleported Yuga Khan away?
Metron wasn't responsible for Yuga Khan no longer being a threat. But Yuga Khan was no longer a threat. Can you guess why?
Darkseid Omega Beamed him away?
I did it! After 12 years, I finally posted an image. Thanks, Thoth, you made my day!
Oh, were we in the middle of something? Because Kahn was sucked into the Source Wall?
Darkseid Omega Beamed him away?
No, but you can see that being used for all sorts of occasions. Such as the writer being really bored. "Darkseid finishes his breakfast pancakes and , annoyed by Yuga Khan's workout music next door decides to take care of it."
No, but that reminds me about the end of Heckler. Something else else along the lines of "Who will stop me now?" "Well, poor sales ought to do it."
I did it! After 12 years, I finally posted an image. Thanks, Thoth, you made my day!
Oh, were we in the middle of something? Because Kahn was sucked into the Source Wall?
Yay! Khan ended up like so many others who try to uncover the secrets of the
Force Source. Embossed onto the source wall, which acts like a garden fence between us and the universe next door, where all the really good parties are held.
Over to you KryptonKid
I got him confused with Manga Khan there for a minute.
Darkseid and Orion got all the shouty lines too, so he couldn't even have that in common.
5YL, one section of the Dominators' underground chamber held four pods from which emerged Catspaw, Computo, and Dragonmage. Who was in the fourth pod?
Crystal Kid?
Crystal Kid?
That's it! Go, IB.
Thanks, KK! Poor Crystal Kid, never really got much respect. not that he seemed to earn any...
In DNA's Legion 1, the Legionnaires foiled terrorists from what world?
Nope and nope.
Not a Legion homeworld, it was
Nope, Kono came from Sklar
The inhabitants look a little like Sklarians though
Nope.
This planet has a number in its name.
Nope. The number in this planet's name is double that of Antares II
Nope. I am fairly certain this planet appeared preboot
Nope.
This planet also appeared Preboot in a story with the Fatal Five.
In DNA's Legion 1, the Legionnaires foiled terrorists from what world?
- not a Legion homeworld
- in the Postboot, the inhabitants looked a little bit like Sklarians (skin color)
- has a number in its name, which is twice the number II
- also appeared in a Preboot story featuring the Fatal 5
- Not:
Daxam
Robotica
Sklar
Murra
Dominion
Manna-5
Talok VIII
Talok IV
Antares II
Wondil-IX
Wasn't Corvan IV taken over the Fatal Five?
And it was Corvan IV. Over to you.
Well remembered Andy. I'd forgotten that one.
I just reread it last week!
Ok, here's a Q ...
Thar is the home of a superpowered villain -- name him and his superpower
I keep thinking of Tharr. Uh, Cryo King, cold generation?
I'm not sure the artist/writer of the story realized that they were creating a new planet or just sloppy writing Thar (instead of Tharr).
And nope
I thought that the Pyramid Men came from Thar.
Uh Pyramid Man...whose power is that his arguments are so convincing because he always has a point?
Olen Jor, with the power of super-hypnotism.
I thought that the Pyramid Men came from Thar.
Uh Pyramid Man...whose power is that his arguments are so convincing because he always has a point?
So... close
Olen Jor, with the power of super-hypnotism.
EDE has it! (I was going to leave hints, but I thought - EDE knows this one)
Olen Jor was revealed on MOST WANTED posters the Legionnaires were perusing as they realized that ULTRA BOY was also on the MOST WANTED posters
Over to you, EDE
Rats... I just checked. The Pyramid Men were from Altair. But the living paintings that they stole were from Thar.
There a whole set of Legion World theories that revolve around Olen Jor and his possible connections to Jan Jor (possibly aka False Pretenses Lad) and the whole Thar/Tharr conundrum!
Something else else to have a hunt for. Thanks EDE.
EDE must be working on a really challenging question for us!
Also
ing up...
In the postboot era, there are seven listed stops for the shuttle on which the three founding members of the LSH met.
Name them.
Good question.
Winath

Earth
?
Oh man. This is a good one, indeed.

Aarok
Bgztl
Xanthu
Ibby has four right.
There are two destinations that have not been correctly guessed at all. Of those two, one of them is weirdly inconsistent with the others, but you guys have guessed what would would have made more sense rather than the destination as listed. The other destination is not one that has been guessed, but could easily be confused with something that has been guessed.

Aleph
Zuun is the only one I've been sure of from the start because that issue was the first time I'd heard of that planet. Color me surprised when I later on found out it was Timber Wolf's homeworld. The three founders' homeworlds were obvious inclusions and I got Imsk and Tharn from the other players' guesses. No idea on the last one though.
Weber's World?
Both you are still at 6 as well.
The last one has basically been guessed, but not in the way it was listed on the screen.
Guessed but not in the way it was listed... hm...
Yod?
No. It's an obvious answer.
The weirdness comes in the fact that the last answer is of a different type than the other answers on the list.
No, but you're thinking the right way.
That might explain where they picked up the assassins, but no.
No.
Hint: Your European tour will take you to Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, and Paris!
Correct. Over to you, Ibby.
Great clue EDE.
New one up soon...
Oops! I knew I was forgetting something
thanks Future.
The Postboot Legion fought the Composite Man in L*25/LSH 69, and again in L*55. Only two Legionnaires were present for both fights. Who were they?
Future's photographic memory strikes again! Yes indeed!
Which hero made their debut as an active Legionnaire, then failed to make an in-story appearance for over two years?
I believe there's only one correct answer, but haven't fact-checked every last member.
I was thinking of Colossal Boy, who took over two years to make his second appearance. However, I forgot about Star Boy who took nearly three years to reappear from what I could tell ('61 -'64, unless he appeared in a non-reprinted tale I can't find).
Back to Ibby.
Thanks Future. A bit surprised that Gim was absent for so long, though that may have been because the Legion wasn't regularly appearing at the time?
Star Boy always stuck out for me, because Levitz even came up with an in-story explanation for his long absence!
Okay let's see...
In her only Postboot appearance, Infectious Lass took down two terrorists named Lantern and Arrow. Name at least one of the diseases she inflicted them with.
Indeed, the initial irregular appearance schedule for the Legion helped. I think Thom first appearing in his own standalone story also caused him to fall off the radar when people looked back to the other Legion appearances for references on who to include in newer stories.
I recall one being a stomach virus, but couldn't tell you the species name.
Hmmmm ...
I think there was a stomach virus too - Bismollian Cramps?
Tharrian flu?
Was it a Toonarian Stomach Bug? Is that a thing?
Nope to all those guesses.
The three named diseases are all historical, real-world examples. No Pain Plagues or Yorggian Fevers here.
Nope.
Drura mentioned three specific diseases, and also a class of disease. Any of these would be acceptable answers.
One of these was the cause of a rather famous historical epidemic.
I should note, after rereading, it seems that these were diseases Drura threatened the bad guys with. The actual disease she had already infected them with was not made clear.
Small pox
Ebola
Tuberculosis
Bubonic Plague
Leprosy
Man Flu - the deadliest of them all
Bubonic plague was one of them!
Others were Syphilis, Spanish Flu, and "all manner of mutant sexual diseases"
And those are just the Earth maladies.
Over to thoth
Which Legion Villains did Blok defeat on his way from being an applicant to a Legionnaire?
It was the Starburst Bandits! I had to nip back and check it wasn't the Resource Raiders. Got them confusselated for a moment.
Cool! I remember thinking that Nightwind would have made a good addition to the team. Especially as there was no telekinetic then, so Cosmic Boy's magnetism was the closest powerset to hers. I was a bit disappointed that Blok didn't have any unique powers.
New Q up soon!
Nightwind and Infectious Lass appeared in one Reboot story. Which two villains did they take down?
Nope. We are looking at two "original" Postboot villains.
Who were the first Legionnaires to encounter Mordecai?
Which 3 Legionnaires fought the Molecular Master in the Reboot?
Kinetix
Cosmic Boy
Saturn Girl
Kinetix
Shrinking Violet
XS
Kinetix
Shrinking Violet
Star Boy
Correct! They fought the Molecular Master in LSH v4 109.
LOL
Totally random guess
Which 2 Legionnaires went undercover as clerical staff to investigate a crooked politician?
Lightning Lass (or Light Lass) and Shadow Lass infiltrating Deregon?
You got it, Thoth!
I thought this would go longer because Light Lass is such an odd choice for the Espionage Squad (in my opinion)
It was a recent issue in our rereads thread :-)
My Time Bubble is searching the centuries foe a new question...
When the Legion were testing their HQ's defences, four Legionnaires were picked to try and breach them. Who were they? Bonus points if you can connect the characters with the large numbers they wore on the front of their uniforms.

Karate Kid
Andy has it. I was just thinking that Karate Kid would mean it would take a few more guesses, but nopes. Well done and over to you!
LOL - I knew there was a more physical Legionnaire, and I suddenly remembered that Karate Kid was often the physical heavy on the team
Of course, considering my preferred code name here, it's no surprise that I got it.
New Q up soon
Who snuck into Legion HQ in order to find out background data on all the Legionnaires in order to save a life?
Really? wow
Future has it!
Yes, Marla Latham broke into Legion HQ in order to find out who was related to RJ Brande amongst the Legionnaires in the classic (IMO) Secrets of the Legion mini-series (which I have purchased and lost probably 5 times already over the years)
Over to you, Future
That was one of my favorite mini-series when I purchased it back in the 90s. It definitely helped sum up the finer points in Legion history as someone who was retroactively reading the "preboot."
When your uniform gets destroyed, you get to wear a spare Science Police one! At least, that's what which two Legionnaires would have us believe?
Shadow Lass and Dawnstar?
Shadow Lass is correct. Dawnstar wasn't who I was thinking of, but if there's an example I've forgotten just let me know!
Shadow Lass & ....
I remember Shady's Science Police uniform from the GDS, and also the Secrets mini series!
Hmm...
Saturn Girl?
I was thinking of Legionnaires who end up pairing up with super powerful partners (and end up with shredded costumes)
But maybe it's a risk taker?
Hmmm... how about Shadow Lass and Shrinking Violet?
Neither Saturn Girl or Shrinking Violet, though S.G. has both had a uniform destroyed and worn a Science Police outfit. Just not in the same instance.
Hmmmm...
Shadow Lass and Light Lass?
Myg has it. Shadow Lass famously switched into an SP uniform during the Great Darkness Saga. Light(ning) Lass did as well at the close of the Baxter series when Hwyndyr's attack destroyed her short-lived, post-Conspiracy Giffen duds.
Aha!
Well I had a totally different era in my head but it was Ayla Ranzz
Guess the guys are too "butch" to sport SP spares
Errrr new Q up soonish
Who has held the prestigious position of Legion of Substitute Heroes liaison?
Gigi Cusimano was named SP Liaison to the Subs during their heroic battle against Pulsar Stargrave
Over to you, Ibby!
Cool!
Okay...
What color outfit did Kinetix wear for her Legion tryout?
Nope, that was her first costume, but not her tryout outfit.
Yellow primarily? It was like a yellow cardigan over a skirt with bicycle shorts.
I think future has it. But if not, then it was Plaid.
Future indeed has it. That was Zoe's fourth try, and she finally got a "perfect" outfit. Cute and functional, in her own words.
I've asked some version of this before, but I think it's still fun.
During "End of an Era," the Adult Legion and the SW6 Legion team up to face Glorith and Mordru. Over the storyline many Legionnaires fade away, are replaced in time, killed, or eventually merge with their counterparts.
All but four. Name the four active Legionnaires who participated on the battle against Mordru and Glorith whose fates were never depicted - they simply vanished off-panel between issues.
Rats, and I've not long looked at part of that...
Ayla
Kid Q
Brin
Devlin
None of those four are correct I'm afraid, thoth.
Ayla merged with her counterpart.
Kid Quantum was replaced (by Jewel I believe).
Brin faded away.
Devlin faded away.
Celeste
Dragonmage
Adult Cham
SW6 Lyle
Celeste Rockfish
Tyroc
Computo
Dev-Em
Dragonmage
Cham
Dawnstar
Tellus
Ibby has the exact four I'm thinking of. All were present in Legionnaires #18 but then were unaccounted for by Valor #23 (save for Celeste/Neon, who was present but then nowhere to be found by LSH #61).
Thanks Myg!
Ibby has the exact four I'm thinking of. All were present in Legionnaires #18 but then were unaccounted for by Valor #23 (save for Celeste/Neon, who was present but then nowhere to be found by LSH #61).
Only Dragonmage's fate was mentioned too. In LSH 61, someone said he either faded or fell in battle on Talus. His exact fate was ambiguous, unlike Projectra's - she vanished offscreen but Nura confirmed that she faded.
New Q soon!
In the Mordru battles in Legionnaires 48-50, I count only two members of the Legion's task force who were not directly injured by either Mordru or the Emerald Eye. Who were these?
Nope. Those two weren't in that story at all.
Brainy was not in the story at all, but Zoe is correct.
Nope. Poor Jan got turned into crystal for his efforts.
Rats, I thought it was having a crystal form that was keeping him out of it.
What about Magno Boy/Lad?
There were multiple encounters with Mordru in these issues
sneaky wizard, him.
Magno got blasted by Mordru, injuring AND depowering him.
Devlin has not been introduced in the Reboot.
Nope. As someone who needed to touch Mordru to affect him (well, not really, but it was easier for her to touch him than to hit him indirectly and risk injuring someone else), she definitely got hit.
Yeah, I thought it was unlikely. Shadow Lass/Umbra?
She got blasted pretty good bad in the final battle.
In the Mordru battles in Legionnaires 48-50, I count only two members of the Legion's task force who were not directly injured by either Mordru or the Emerald Eye. Who were these?
Thoth correctly guessed Kinetix.
Not:
Brainiac 5
Gates
Element Lad
Magno
Devlin
XS
Umbra
Was not in the fight (just sitting in the sidelines boo)
Live Wire got his robot arm busted.
Sensor got whammied hard in the first battle.
He was right in the thick of it.
It WAS Lyle!
Lyle only joined in the final battle, and he acted as field leader instead of attacking Mordru directly (he did get his hands dirty saving Kid Q II).
Zoe joined Mysa and Sensor in separating Vi from the Emerald Eye in an alternate dimension; when they returned, Mysa attacked Mordru directly and got hit. So did Vi. Zoe and Sensor managed to avoid getting hit (but Sensor got hit in the first battle in L* 48, so she wasn't a correct answer).
Still one of my favorite comic book battles ever.
Over to you Future.
Well done Future. I thought Lyle would have been in close, and got thumped as a result.
Lyle was my first guess, but then I remembered Sensor was with Kinetix saving Violet so I tried her first.
When Luna was destroyed during TMK, which two Legion characters were casualties?
Marella Tao and Circadia Senius?
Marella Tao and Circadia Senius?
Circadia Senius is correct. He actually had a pretty bad-ass send-off in my opinion, calmly launching a means to replace Luna's missing mass blind because "I am an astrophysicist. If I don't know where the moon is supposed to be ... then we are all in k-k-considerable trouble." He then watched a chunk of Luna land a half mile away that would inevitably kill him.
I'm unaware of Marella's fate, but don't recall her appearing after the first year of TMK in-story. It's possible the powersphere explosions that decimated Earth the same day may have done her in, but that was from the Dominators and not Luna.
Circadia Senius and who else?
Yeah, I remember reading about Circadia Senius. Badass!
Dr. Gym'll?
Devil Fish (I have no idea)?
I think it was Gym'll too. But if not, then the horse headed space port owner of Nullport.
Ibby has it. We checked in with Dr. Gym'll on Medicus One and then cutaway to learn that Medicus One had been destroyed.
Poor Dr. Gym'll. I hope he went with his comics and credit vouchers...
Poor Circadia Senius too...
Let's see...
Five Legionnaires/allies were victims of Chokeweed, the slow and agonizing death the Blight inflicted. They were trapped by plants that slowly sucked the life out of them.
Who were these five?
Hm...
I remember Live Wire, Ultra Boy, and Invisible Kid (I think.).
Karate Kid and Sensor?
The Blight were so cool. I don't remember them killing anyone though? Maybe these people got rescued?
I'll say:
M'onel
Ultra Boy
Dreamer
Live Wire
Thunder
Yup, they made it out in the end, don't worry.
And you have one correct.
Hm...
I remember Live Wire, Ultra Boy, and Invisible Kid (I think.).
Karate Kid and Sensor?
KK got three right!
OK, IIRC, Cham implied that people who fell victim to the Chokeweed died (he was wrong, of course), but he knew of the Legionnaires who were Blight enforcers. That eliminates Ultra Boy and Karate Kid from my list, if my thinking is correct. So...
Live Wire
Invisible Kid
Sensor
Gates
Kinetix
Some excellent thinking, KK. You have four correct.
Swap one of them out for a good guy who was not an active Legionnaire at the time.
Live Wire
Invisible Kid
Sensor
Gates
Magno?
Thanks, Ibs.
In "Legion: Secret Origins" Chris Batista produced some excellent work, including the covers; however, he drew a Legionnaire on one issue's cover that never appeared in story. Which hero did he try to add to the line-up?
You're correct in that Sun Boy was not in the story, but he's not who I was looking for.
I'm guessing it's either Star Boy or Shrinking Violet. Thom got swapped before publication for Ultra Boy, while Violet appeared on a cover but didn't actually join the team in-story. She had a cameo at the end of the series with Dirk and some others though via a projection screen of candidates.
Well, Future guessed two characters which leaves me with nobody to guess
Yes, I was thinking of Violet. I didn't remember Vi or Dirk being in a holo at the end of #6, to tell he truth.
I think I see a question in our Future.
In the Threeboot, who walked in on Element Lad and Triplicate Girl's first kiss? And on a mission no less!
KK has it! I thought this one might go on longer. Triplicate Girl and Element Lad were caught macking by two other Triplicate Girls.
Thx, Future.
In what century did the Justice Legion L operate?
Not so much, but you're in the right range.
867?
I'm at this point just putting Legion historical numbers behind things. Ha ha.
Warmer.
Hint: The Justice Legion A operates in the 853rd century.
Colder.
Correct! The Justice Legion L existed 1,000 years after the Justice Legion A of the 853rd century.
Cool!
I should have figured that out earlier...
Name two pairs of Legionnaires who were never on the same team together in one boot, only to develop a very close relationship in another boot?
I have 2 pairs in mind, but will accept other answers if they can be justified.
Lyle and Jacques were not Legionnaires at the same time in the original run, but they were raised as brothers in the Reboot.
White Witch was on the original team and Dragonmage was on the Batch SW6 team. They were close in the Reboot.
Howsdat?
Exactly the two pairs I was thinking of, KK! Great job! Over to you.
Cool, IB.
Which two Legionnaires posed as secretaries for Gov. Deregon of Australia?
Light Lass and Shadow Lass.
Hmm. That was so fast I'm embarrassed.
Give us a question, O Future!
LOL I asked the same question a couple weeks ago, KK
"The Legion Groupie" from text material in the 2995 Legion Sourcebook lists which character's favorite hobbies as bowling, gridball, and model building?
Sounds somewhat familiar...
Eh, Marla Latham?
LOL I asked the same question a couple weeks ago, KK
LOL. Serves me right for not paying attention.
"The Legion Groupie" from text material in the 2995 Legion Sourcebook lists which character's favorite hobbies as bowling, gridball, and model building?
Chuck Taine?
No to Marla Latham, Bouncing Boy, Ultra Boy, and Colossal Boy.
Is this character a Legionnaire?
Not Brin.
This character has been a Legionnaire, yes.
No to Lyle and no to Ferro.
HINT: The character was still alive by 2995.
No to Thom and Tyroc.
Hint: while the character has been a Legionnaire, they weren't in 2995.
No to both but you're on the right track, Andy.
"The Legion Groupie" from text material in the 2995 Legion Sourcebook lists which Legionnaire's favorite hobbies as bowling, gridball, and model building?
It's not...
R.J. Brande
Marla Latham
Bouncing Boy
Colossal Boy
Ferro Lad
Invisible Kid I
Polar Boy
Reflex
Star Boy
Ultra Boy
Timber Wolf
Tyroc
They were an active Legionnaire previously, but not by 2995.
You're both much closer! No to Pete or Staq though.
Andy has it! It was Stone Boy.
hmmm. ok ... i probably should have waited for someone else to get it ...
Two part question:
According to one Legionnaire, everyone is young once.
#1) According to the same Legionnaire, we're all also WHAT as well?
#2) What is the trick the Legionnaire wants to impart?
#1) we're also mortal?
#2) not to judge people for being a bit immature, as we were young once and should enjoy life while still alive?
#1) eternally young at heart?
This sounds like Magnetic Kid's parting words.
1. Has their whole life ahead of them until they don't?
2. It's not the length of time you're alive, but what you do with it?
Close, in a certain way.
But neither is right
Ah, I remember that - it was
1) Sensor Girl/Projectra and
2) To not be ashamed to ask for help
It was Sensor Girl!
But the question was not who was it, but...
According to one Legionnaire, everyone is young once.
#1) According to the same Legionnaire, we're all also WHAT as well?
#2) What is the trick the Legionnaire wants to impart?
And the "don't be afraid to ask for help" was actually Bouncing Boy's lesson to Projectra
SOOOOO close
Nearly there
We're also constantly learning?
We're also constantly learning?
nope (but that's close to the lesson)
We never stop aging and changing?
We never stop aging and changing?
kind of right ...
If it helps, Jeckie was talking to Jacques
I remember the story now...
We never stop learning?
Nope
You were closer before
You never stop learning?
And you never know what could happen in the future?
Two part question:
According to one Legionnaire, everyone is young once.
#1) According to the same Legionnaire, we're all also WHAT as well?
#2) What is the trick the Legionnaire wants to impart?
So it is Projectra talking with Jacques but she doesn't say:
To not be ashamed to ask for help
Has their whole life ahead of them until they don't?
It's not the length of time you're alive, but what you do with it?
we're also mortal?
not to judge people for being a bit immature, as we were young once and should enjoy life while still alive?
We're eternally young at heart
You never stop learning?
We're constantly learning
And you never know what could happen in the future?
We never stop aging and changing?
This is a pretty tough question...
To never stop trying.
I guess it was one of those lines that stuck with me. I guess Jeckie's more serious tone resonated with me.
I'll call this one (since I have two other threads now)
Jeckie tells Jacques, everyone is young once, and an amateur
We all outgrow it, the trick is to survive it
Over to you, Ibby
Oh, now I remember. That was a pretty good line, Myg. And a nice look back at her rookie days with Val and Andy.
Let's see...
It was said once, that two Legionnaires agreeing was anomalous.
Who were these two bickering Legionnaires?
Lightning Lad and Wildfire?
Good guess, but nope.
Incidentally, those two didn't bust heads in the Reboot era.
Phantom Girl and Sun Boy?
Shadow Lass and Timber Wolf?
Nope. None of the 2 Legionnaires has been guessed yet.
Yes! They were bickering over how to investigate the Anomaly in space. Kinetix threw a pair of transuits at them, and they both yelled at her. Kinetix said, "Hey, you both agree! Now that's an anomaly!"
Over to you, Future.
When Mordru raised an army of the dead in TMK, which "deceased" Legionnaire was missing and why?
Sun Boy? His body was then being inhabited by Wildfire?
Nope, Sun Boy's corpse was present. It was when he was re-buried that Wildfire's energies merged with him.
Does Supergirl count? Because she'd been erased from history?
Ferro Lad, because there was no physical body to resurrect?
Ferro Lad, because there was no physical body to resurrect?
You would think, but the Ferro Lad corpse did appear in the cliffhanger where the Zombie Legion debuted. He vanished afterward oddly enough. Several zombies appeared that really should have been skeletons or nothing at all.
Does Supergirl count? Because she'd been erased from history?
I'm not factoring Superboy and Supergirl due to the nature of the Glorithverse, though they definitely qualify otherwise!
The character in question was known to their teammates during the Glorithverse as deceased, was not present among the zombies, and their absence wasn't questioned in-story when it really, really should have been.
I considered Kid Quantum when I was first posing the question due to how in-story the adult Legion is never shown to be informed he is alive again. However, it's likely that Reep let them know James returned before he left for the SW6 clan.
No to Proty as well, though that certainly would have been an interesting opportunity for a Garth->Proty switch.
Hint: it's a bit hilarious no one pointed out this zombie Legionnaire was missing. After all, someone was mourning them several issues before and would again several issues later without referencing this encounter.
Phantom Girl, because she was actually in the 20th century being Phase.
Oh, duuuuuuh. That makes perfect sense and I feel dumb for not thinking about Tinya.
Chaim has it! By then it was obvious to the reader the intended Tinya/Phase connection, but despite mourning her scant issues before even Jo doesn't notice her absence and what that might mean. She was no more blown up than Ferro Lad or Triplicate Girl, after all.
That was a good trivia question. And something the writers obviously forgot. A shame because I think that would have created some good mystery/tension.
I recall noticing it, and writing to the letters column about it. I don't recall if my letter got printed, my copy of those old Legion issues isn't readily accessible to me, but if anyone has handy the issues in which letters about LSH # 45 (or so) got printed, I'd love to be reminded.
What substance weakens the Emerald Eye of Ekron?
Blacula is correct, Kryptonite weakens the Emerald Eye.
I think I remember that from an old Who's Who entry.
OK, Giffen's double-page spread of the team and its supporting characters that appeared in LoSH #300 included cameos by 3 non-Legion related comic characters.
Please name them.
Martian Manhunter?
Tommy Tomorrow?
Lois Lane?
I remember Spider-Man and Garfield - was the third Batman?
Martian Manhunter
Platinum (of the Metal Men)
Hawkman?
CMK has it! Garfield is so random!
In 1983, he was VERY popular.
Who stole the Nandorian Relic?
Lydea Mallor, Servant of Darkness?
It was neither Magpie nor the Lydea Mallor Servant of Darkness.
Nope. The thief of the Nandorian Relic was not:
Benn Pares
Magpie
Lydea Mallor Servant of Darkness
Chameleon Boy
Quicksand
Holdur
Not at all the Dark Circle, R.J. Brande ot the Sklarians.
Universo wasn't the actual thief, but he was involved in the plot. The thief was an accomplice/partner/associate of his.
Universo aide? What was his name? The one who helped Universo set up the machines for the Universo Project ... He was some kind of hypnotized environmentalist ...
The Respoiler?
Not Rond (though Rond was under Universo's hypnotic control during that story), and not the Restorer.
Was this an Earth president? Desai, I think?
Not Rond (though Rond was under Universo's hypnotic control during that story), and not the Restorer.
Ahhh right! Good memory, CMK!
Hmmm... Not Rond nor the Restorer... how about -- Zym'r?
Neither Earth President Mojai Desai, nor Zymyr.
Universo, Universo... I noted you did not see "hypnotized minion" which means that the thief would willingly work him ... Hmmm ...
Dark Man?
Not the Dark Man, but the story in question was published within a year of the Dark Man story.
Hmmmm that's early 1980s Legion ...
An Ryd?
Neither An Ryd nor Captain Frake.
If no one gets it by tomorrow morning, I'll throw in another clue.
vid Gupta... oh wait, that was really Universo, right?
Wait! Early 1980s - Legion appeared in DC Presents where Mongul stole something !
They did, but Mongul isn't the answer. But you're on a right track, there. (and yes, Vid-Gupta was Universo and not the answer)
Hint time - it didn't take place in an issue of Legion of Super-Heroes.
Not Ambush Bug.
You are correct in thinking that the theft (or, I should say, the story in which the theft occurs) somehow involves the 20th century, but the thief was a 30th-century individual.
Not Marla Latham.
Here's another hint, and if this doesn't trigger someone's memory, I'll just give the answer away: While this story, in which a non-Legionnaire from the 20th century visits the 30th century (and interacts with Legionnaires there), several Legionnaires were, in the Legion's own book, in the 20th century.
LOL Brave and the Bold #179?
It was Anton something ... one-shot villain with a tacky outfit
That's the guy - Anton Halkor. The Nandorian Relic was the titular "Time Bomb With a Thousand-Year Fuse."
Yours, Myg.
I saw that issue the other day at Denver Comic-Con and was debating buying it... but after skimming it, remembered how much I disliked the issue, even when I was a kid and it first came out
Ahhhh remember when we would hunt for guest appearances of our favorite heroes and villains?
Sigh
OK - which Legion relative lives on Stratus?
I used to do that for a bit. Guest appearances of Kimiyo Hoshi, appearances of Kole...
Sigh.
Stratus. Um... Imra's aunt?
Still nope
Hint: I didn't say Legionnaire for a reason ...
When we were introduced to Stratus, this person was not a Legionnaire Yet
which Legion relative lives on Stratus?
HINT:
The person wasn't a Legionnaire yet when we see Stratus (and find out about the relative on the planet)
Another Hint:
Stratus is a lush planet with very little development permitted
NOT:
Imra's aunt
Garth's aunt
Lyle's aunt
Gazelle's aunt
Dream Boy
Blok
Not the Turtle (whoever that is)
Hint:
Dream Girl was on the mission team who first went to Stratus to investigate a disappearance
She was searching for Mentalla, right? So, the Legionnaire's relative in question would have been...Crystal Kid's parents?
She was searching for Mentalla, right? So, the Legionnaire's relative in question would have been...Crystal Kid's parents?
You were right the first part of it. I didn't use the word "Legionnaire" in the question because she wasn't one.
It was Mentalla's uncle
Over to you, CMK
Who seduced Sun Boy at the request of Gigi Cusimano?
Yup. Figured I owed you guys an easy one after my last question.
Thanks, CMK.
Two parter...
Which villain helped create Evisceratronic,
And which villain killed him?
Um, this would be easy for Blacula ...
But I'm going to say
Dr. Morlo helped create Evisceratronic
and Computo helped kill him?
haha Great question IB!
Mano helped create him by killing off the rest of his Science Police squad; and
Mordru killed him by pulling the magic gem out of his chest.
Exactly! I knew you would like this Q, Blacula!
Who were the 5 members of "The Strangers" (the unusued super-villain group that Dave Cockrum created for the Legion)?
CLUE 1: One of the 5 did appear as a Legion villain.
CLUE 2: Another of the 5 was used by a diffent company.
Aw, I only know the hero group he created
Guessing...
Tyr?
Tyr is correct.
Of the remaining 4:
1 shares a name with a snake;
1 shares a name with a plant;
1 shares a name with a mammal; and
1 shares a name with a sea creature.
Constrictor?
Mistletoe?
Meerkat?
Jellyfish?
Are you talking about his Futurians team?
Silkie
Mosquito
Blackmane
Terrayne
Nope. According to the Legion Companion, they were "The Strangers".
Only Tyr correct so far.
* Like he had done with Nightcrawler and Storm, Cockrum repurposed one as a very famous Marvel character.
* DC has a villain with a similar name to the one that shares a name with an aquatic creature (CLUE: DC's character has a colour in front of the name).
* One shares a name with a poisonous plant.
* And the one that shares a name with a snake, also shares a name with three different Marvel villains.
Colossus?
Diamondback?
Constrictor?
1 shares a name with a snake; = Sidewinder?
1 shares a name with a plant; = Belladonna
1 shares a name with a mammal; and = Wolverine
1 shares a name with a sea creature.= Manta
Not sure on the snake one.
All correct TL!
They seem like they might have made an interesting group of villains. Shame we never got to see them all together.
What caused Lois Lane to end up in the Phantom Zone with Mon El?
Trying to find out Superboy's identity?
She was hunting down a story?
General Lane stuck her in there?
Tried to save his life from lead poisoning?
It might help to figure out who put her in there in this story involving Superman, and not Superboy.
It wasn't Lex Luthor that put her in there, but keep along those naming lines.
Not Zod. Less villainy and more LLy.
Lucy Lane sent them in, when she was still her daddy's loyal soldier?
It was Lana Lang - any thoughts on how/why Lana got Lois into the Phantom Zone?
Was this when she became the evil Insect Queen in the years just before Flashpoint?
It was waaaay before Flashpoint.
Hmmm... I got nothing. Did Lana send Lois into the Phantom Zone to keep her safe?
It was the opposite of keeping her safe. It was to get rid of her, and that other pesky love rival Lori Lemaris was going to get hers. The reason? Oh Supes had brought back alien metal, fashioned them into "LL" brooches and given them out. Without remembering all the other times everything he brings back results in things going wrong.
Rumour has it that the metal used in these brooches found it's way to Titan is responsible for the likes of Saturn Queen going bad.
Over to you Ibby!
Sounds like an awesome story, thoth! Now I want to read it...
In the Postboot, two different Legionnaires are credited for calling Dr. Gym'll in to become the Legion's physician. Who were they?
Brainiac 5 and Cosmic Boy?
Shrinking Violet and Cosmic Boy?
Still one right
That was before Umbra joined
Nope. (Sorry Myg, my "still one right" earlier also already covered your Lyle guess above. I should have made it clear).
Nope.
In the Postboot, two different Legionnaires are credited for calling Dr. Gym'll in to become the Legion's physician. Who were they?
Violet is one.
The other is not:
Brainiac 5
Cosmic Boy
Umbra
Leviathan
Invisible Kid
Saturn Girl
Nope.
The second Legionnaire is someone who was in a position to do something about support staff.
Correct! Triad took the initiative, despite not being elected, to handle admin matters. In L* 38 she calls in Dr. Gym'll...
But in LSH 82, Brainiac 5 credits Violet for doing that. Huh?
Anyway, they can both share the credit.
Over to you thothy!
up
Another
for thothy
Oh heck... new Question when I dig out an issue. I'll probably link it to my guess a Legion character, since that should make it go quickly.
How did Doctor Regulus first make himself known to the Legion?
A spaceship attack on Metropolis?
There was a spaceship and it was in Metropolis. But it wasn't a direct attack.
Spaceship used to lure the Legion into a trap?
It was used for that afterwards, and this first action could be seen as that too. Can you tell me what specific thing in Metropolis the spaceship targeted?
Yay! Regulus just for an "interlude" took on the Legion. There were some earthquakes first, and he gave Dirk Super-Amnesia (see Dirk's ongoing mental balance issues) but he really started messing with them by pinching their HQ.
If you've read the very last Levitz issue where they've put a giant "L" capstone onto the site of the HQ, it would have matched the hole left in this issue perfectly, showing that big circle of HQ switches was completed.
Over to you Ibby!
Wow! Did not expect to guess correctly
Ok hmm...
How many siblings does Magno have?
I'm fairly confident that this is one I'll get eventually. Just my luck if he was spawned out of a vat containing the DNA of every Braalian and has a gazillion clone brothers.
Two?
Isn't it nice to have a relatively small pool of choices
if I were evil, I would have asked you to guess how many M'Onelves appeared in LSH 1,000,000...
Not two.
Isn't it nice to have a relatively small pool of choices
if I were evil, I would have asked you to guess how many M'Onelves appeared in LSH 1,000,000....
I'm sure you would have let me away with "several" Besides, who's evil enough to pose a question on M'Onelves?
None. He was an only child.
Oh and pun points for "relatively" well done
Asking about M'Onelves isn't inherently evil. Just a little bit not good
Magno did have at least one sibling. So this isn't a trick question
Yay! Thanks for the wink wink nudge nudge on the pun
Asking about M'Onelves isn't inherently evil. Just a little bit not good
I'll remember that if I change my signature
Magno did have at least one sibling. So this isn't a trick question :p;)
'Course not. That would be a little bit not good to do something like that.
Yay! Thanks for the wink wink nudge nudge on the pun
Your "wink" in the one word thread was immediately followed by a "nudge"
Oh yeah, before I forget - Three!
Three is correct! An overbearing nasshead older bro, an extremely supportive younger sis, and a longhaired androgynous little bro.
Triad would be pleased.
over to you thothy!
New Q soon... along with that Titans one...
Who did Mask Man kill first?
Yay! He bumped off Ultra Boy first with a freezing ray.
That one still gives me the chills. The story I mean, not the dreadful pun
Over to you Ibby!
Aw, the pun didn't get a frosty reception from me.
Let's see...
What kind of music does RJ Brande like?
I get the feeling I've seen this, but see the ignorance posts on the Kill thread
I'm ruling out things that would be insta-dated... so Gangsta Brande is out...
I'll start with Classical.
Nope.
I am basing the answer on Reboot Brande, so if you can cite evidence for Preboot Brande I will accept
Durlan flooglehorp music?
That was going to be my next guess...
I suppose you will be happy to know that it ain't correct
neither of those.
The correct answer is a genre that is, at least for me, relatively obscure. It apparently originated in the USA but with European influences.
Hornblowing?
What kind of music does Reboot RJ Brande like? (though I will accept a correct answer for Preboot Brande, if you can cite a source)
The correct answer is a genre that is, at least for me, relatively obscure. It apparently originated in the USA but with European influences.
Not:
- classical
- jazz
- Durlan flooglehorp music
- hornblowing
- new wave
- Klingon funeral dirges
Another clue:
After checking online, it is sometimes classified as folk music, sometimes as country music. It incorporates jazz elements.
Yes! This was revealed in LSH Secret Files 2.
Over to you J!
Did Blockade Boy ever try to join the Legion?
The second one did, as he was really Proty. He joined along with one of my favourites Biron the Bowman, in the issue where the Super Pets revolt and Gim Allon gets a horse to the eye!
Both are correct since the first and real one died escaping with Matter Eater Lad when they two of several prisoners on Nardo's Super Stalag of Space. It was my first, not my best. Not sure but I think that goes to Thoth?
I deleted my post by accident because I thought I had double-posted. I originally guessed, "no"
But you are correct jfposey, thoth was first so he gets to ask the next Q
Ah, I was wondering what had happened.
After the Legion's ship is attacked, Karate Kid handles live cables. He says the electricity won't harm him. But how?
Drat those double posts.
Karate Kid was wearing a spacesuit?
Not rubber gloves...but what else would he have been wearing?
Well, perhaps at weekends, but what would you expect karate kid to be wearing?
Nope, but below the transuit he would be wearing?
BVDs? Thong? Bikini briefs? Boxer shorts? Au natural?
All nos. What does he normally wear under a transuit and above his I heart Jeckie undies?
Yay! But not just his normal uniform, but his new "Action Suit" designed by one of the readers. The barehanded Val knew he was safe handling cables due to it's amazing powers of insulation.
Over to you CMK!
Le Bump for Chaim Mattis Keller!
I sent Chaim a reminder PM.
Sorry...been distracted. Thanks for the PM.
Which Legionnaire's corpse was (in an Elseworlds book) found to have been buried (approximately) one thousand years before that Legionnaire's birth?
Correct, in Generations III.
Yours, IB
Thanks CMK. I remember that story. Shades of time travel craziness
In the Postboot Team 20/30 period, one Legionnaire ended up stranded with the original Team 20 after a failed rescue attempt. Who was this?
While part of the Legion was stuck in the 20th century, they presented Superboy with his own Legion uniform. What prior story was that uniform meant to be a call-back to?
Superboy's first trip to the 30th century?
Anniversary of a past mission?
No takers, eh?
Hint: it was not in a Legion book, in fact, the image of Superboy wearing that costume was the only appearance of Superboy or the Legion in that entire series.
Homage to a costume he wore in another story?
Exactly, but I'm hoping someone will come up with the actual story, which is the same name as the mini-series in question. A 4-issue mini-series.
I'm blanking on it.
Kingdom Come?
Correct! It was one panel in Kingdom Come, which mentioned that when the world turned darker, many heroes left for other worlds or other times, and showed an image of Superboy and Supergirl in the Legion, with Superboy wearing the Legion uniform presented to him in Superboy # 45.
Lucky guess, I remembered he had a different costume in Kingdom Come.
Let's see...
In the Reboot reality, a lot of Legionnaires enjoyed Tenzil Kem's cooking. But I can only think of one who actually helped him cook. Who was it?
Monstress? she seemed to be "helping" everyone with everything, whether they needed it or not.
Before post-boot Tenzil was employed as the Legion's chef, he worked for a well-known pop culture figure (as an Easter egg). Who was that?
I read that issue but didn't notice the name... hm...
Gordon Ramsey?
No.
Just to be clear, it was not a real person, it was a fictional character from a non-comics medium.
Hmm... He worked for Moe's at the spaceport...?
That's the one I'm thinking of! Yours, IB!
I didn't make the Three Stooges connection until your question! Thanks, CMK.
Okay...
What is the connection between Piston, Catspaw and Lupine?
Were they all candidates for membership in the Workforce?
Did Kinetix speak to all of them?
CMK has it - McCauley and Amilia Crugg reviewed them for potential inclusion in the workforce in Legionnaires 69.
A mysterious canister stolen by Spider-Girl, which even Ultra Boy was unable to open, was opened by a Science Police officer who is a hybrid of what two Legion-homeworld races?
Correct - the combination of strength and magnetic manipulation enabled S. P. Officer Conner to open the canister that Ultra Boy could not with either ultra-strength alone or flash vision alone.
I remembered that it was a combination of powers that enabled the officer to open it, so Braalian was the logical choice.
Okay,let's see...
During Brainy's trial for the death of the Infinite Man, he was able to predict how each Legionnaire would vote... except for one. Which Legionnaire surprised him?
Quizlet
I at first read that as Infinity-Man, who the Forever People summon.
The more impressive thing than Brainy predicting that was how immediately after he told Saturn Girl his prediction, she immediately knew (presumably without using her telepathy) which one he guessed wrongly.
Emily has it!
An Infinite Man vs Infinity-Man story would be interesting
CMK - I wonder if she knew Brainy so well because of the time spent in his mind during the Universo Project?
What artifact (predifact?) from the 30th Century did Supergirl bring back with her in the Silver Age?
It is neither Excalibur or Streaky.
Brainiac 5's force-field belt (which immediately shorted out)
Yes, it is a Legion flight ring. Oddly enough, her roommate recognized it as the ring Supergirl wore instead of assuming it stood for Linda. Ah, the Silver Age.
Ahhh yes, the Silver Age... Sigh
Ok, new Q up soon ...
The Legion stopped a robot bent on killing JLA descendants ... Which 3 JLAers lost descendants before the Legion stopped them?
Batman, Hawkman and Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman.
2 out of 3 (since Hawkman and Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman have the same descendant)
Is Green Lantern the third? I believe I remember a lantern with a slash through it on the robot's chest, even though we never saw that particular killing.
You got it!
Over to you, CMK
What was the special power which Rann Antar hoped would gain him Legion membership?
He invented a formula that could make feathers heavy? He had no inherent super powers.
Cool!
What was Condo Arlik's job in the Reboot?
Who was depicted as having been a Legionnaire in the Adult Legion story who never ended up becoming one in any incarnation or retcon of Legion history?
Yup, Quantum Queen.
It's funny, you get the sense that Jim Shooter had a lot of long-term plans for the Legion that would have eventually culminated in the "Adult Legion" Legion, but moving the Legion to Action Comics and then to complete hiatus short-circuited that...and then we got not just one, but two strange Reflecto retcons to make it fit - but never Quantum Queen.
Unlike with Shadow Lass, where Levitz even had her put on full body makeup just to pull a bait and switch
In the Reboot, the fates of many Legionnaires who were not part of Legion Lost were revealed in Legion Worlds. Except for two. Who were these two?
One of the two guesses is correct. The other was not a Legionnaire prior to Legion Lost
Interesting phrasing - the only people who come to mind that became official Legionnaires after Legion Lost are Dreamer and Timber Wolf, who were definitely in Legion Worlds, and Shikari, who was with the "lost" crew.
Chuck Taine (in addition to Gates)? I remember the "Bouncing Boy" vehicle being in Legion Worlds, but maybe he wasn't actually on it in that issue?
One of the two guesses is correct. The other was not a Legionnaire prior to Legion Lost
Ah, I am very sorry. This should be "was a Legionnaire prior to Legion Lost". I don't know why I put a "not". The second correct answer is a full-fledged Legionnaire before Legion Lost, who did NOT appear in Legion Worlds, except in flashbacks.
Chuck Taine did appear in Legion Worlds 3.
OK, then. Gates and...Violet?
Nope, Vi was also in issue 3.
This character's fate was instead revealed in issue 3 of the new ongoing that started after Worlds.
Right, the one where Legion World was revealed.
Gates and...Sensor?
Yes, it was Sensor! She was completely absent in all of Legion Worlds except for flashbacks. And unlike with Gates, she wasn't in the memorial statue. There was not a single clue as to her fate.
When Chameleon Boy first appeared in a comic book, who or what was he disguised as?
Tree is the correct answer!
Yes! I was lucky I saw the panel on a Facebook post recently.
How many code names has Luornu had in the Pre-Crisis/Reboot continuity?
3? - Triad, Triplicate Girl, Duo Damsel.
Duplicate Damsel would be Retroboot continuity ad not counted?
You are correct. Man, all these versions get to be a bit confusing.
Yeah, they do. I had to think a bit before answering.
Okay let's see...
Who gave Apparition and Ultra Boy the nickname of, "The Smitten Kittens"?
Nope. The person who said this was a Legionnaire.
Nope to both.
But it was a female Legionnaire.
Nope to both.
Who gave Apparition and Ultra Boy the nickname of, "The Smitten Kittens"?
- It was a female Legionnaire
- not Shadow Lass/Umbra, Inferno, Shvaughn Erin, Matter-Eater Lad, Violet, Kinetix, Saturn Girl, XS
Triad ... per Imra and Jo's heart to heart after their Legion Lost blow-out (all sales final).
Correct! This was revealed in Legion Lost 9
Aside from the Super Cousins, who was the first Legionnaire to visit Titans Tower?
...in truth, this hero may have visited before the cousins too.
No to XS and Mon.
The instance I'm thinking of pre-dates XS' creation.
Chaim has it. Cos woke up in Titans Tower after he was defeated by Brimstone in Legends. I believe it was the first time a Legionnaire set foot in the Tower before Kon-El's dual tenure.
When B.I.O.N. fought the Legion, whose powers did not match his expectation?
The Black Dawn flashback where Legionnaires quit in succession to Sun Boy is the first on-panel confirmation of membership for which two heroes?
Fire Lad and Chlorophyll Kid?
Cool.
Okay let's see...
When the Reboot Legion fought the Scavenger, he used the Philosopher's Stone to all except two. For the last two, he just blasted them with an energy weapon.
What was that energy weapon?
A Qwardian lightning bolt?
Star-Rod (Starman's weapon)?
Nope, but a good guess and fairly close
Nope. That guess is farther away from Starman's Cosmic Rod.
Correct! Scavenger used it to take out Invisible Kid and Ultra Boy in separate shots.
He then used the Philosopher's stone to transmute the air around Superboy (Kon-El) into inertron, and the air around two of Triad's bodies into gold and birch respectively. He trapped Chameleon in crystal, Violet in an ammonia cloud, and Leviathan and Triad's third body in tar. Not bad...
Of course, Chameleon broke through the crystal, and Triad's free body caught the Philosopher's stone when he dropped it, ruining his victory.
The "Legends of the Legion" mini-series featured four Legionnaires' origins in four issues, and tied three of them together with coincidences unknown to the Legionnaire subjects of the stories. Who was the odd one out, whose origin did not get connected to the others?
Umbra.
Spark and Star Boy encountered the same villains;
Ultra Boy and Star Boy received powers from space whale meat.
Yup, your turn again, IB.
Cool!
Okay...
RJ Brande revealed he had telepathic abilities when he had to help Violet recover after she was freed from the Emerald Eye.
Which two Legionnaires were with him when he made his attempt? (others were nearby, but as Brande said he needed to avoid distractions, only two plus the doctor were right beside him)
Name two Legionnaires besides Saturn Girl that have worn her bikini costume.
Her impersonator Sun Boy...
and...
Shadow Lass?
One of your guesses is correct, Ibby.
Sun Boy
Princess Projectra
Hmm... I hadn't given thought to Chameleon Boy posing as Saturn Girl. I can't think of an instance in the 70s, but if there is one that would technically count.
I will confirm Sun Boy is correct. The other Legionnaire I'm thinking of though is female and appeared on-panel in the costume, in front of Saturn Girl no less.
Sun Boy and Phantom Girl?
No to Jeckie, Ayla, and Tinya.
Chaim has it!
Dirk dressed in Imra's bikini the same issue she debuted it I believe, testing Jeckie's psychological profile.
Shrinking Violet and Saturn Girl traded places in the 70s, helping thwart a mind control attempt on Imra.
OK, then...
What ruler of the moon (I don't know if he/she had a name, the title is sufficient as the answer) kidnaped Garth and Imra immediately after their wedding ceremony?
I think it was a she, but I can't remember the title...
Well done Chaim! I could remember the scene, but not who was in it or the issue.
As for this one, we saw Imra and Garth married in an alternate universe really. I think they were kidnapped by a guy. I remember he had one of those big throne rooms, where there never seems to be anything to do. No wonder they're cranky all the time.
Emperor?
Emperor was not the title.
Nope, not King either.
A hint: people might think of this as a family name rather than as a title. But in that book, it was definitely used as the person in question's title.
Thoth has it - he called himself the "Khan of New Cathay".
Tee Hee
When raising your fists to the heavens and going all Star Trek pays off :-)
New Question shortly...
My brother named his son Khan ... and I always have to yell out KHANNNNN when I see him
lol
Cathay Pacific is one of the best airlines in Asia. That's where I knew Cathay from.
Uh Oh! The last Controller in our universe is looking to take well...control of it. He wants to use the Legion as his strike force. But what stops him?
A ghost you say? Whose ghost might that be?
Gosh, who was dead at that time... uh...
Luornu's third body
real Garth oh wait that was a retcon
Ferro Lad?
Yay! I just wanted to string it out to a second post
The Controller is very creepy in that issue. The Controllers were from another universe back then, before they were dragged into the Green Lantern backstory.
Oh right! I forgot about that the Controller's were from another universe
Nicely played, Thoth
Thanks Andy!
O'er to ye Cap'n Ibby!
Yay! I just wanted to string it out to a second post
Great minds think alike
What do Ink, Chiller, Fireball and Slipstream have in common?
All H-Dial identities of Lori Morning.
Ah, that would explain why I'd never heard of them. Nice one Chaim.
Who prevented the Fatal Five from killing the four remaining Legionnaires after Ferro Lad's sacrifice?
Validus turned on the rest because he took a liking to Projectra?
Correct. Quick turnaround, Ibby.
Ibby is faster than XS these days
Thanks.
I can travel at the speed of light after all
in the Reboot, there was one scene of a Sklarian admiring the shoulders of one Legion villain. Which villain was this?
CMK has it! Mordru posed as an SP officer to find a grand daughter on Sklar. For some reason he switched plans and destroyed Sklar instead. While he was on his business, a Sklarian woman can be seen in the background thinking, "hmmm, nice shoulders."
Pre-Crisis, Which founding Legionnaire's parent is the last one known to still be alive?
Good question and answer!
As a preboot kinda guy, I wouldn't have put Mordru down for having such nice shoulders. But there *was* that leather clad, spiky shouldered biker version we saw back in the Adventure days...
Hmmm, is this going to be a tricky one?
I'm going to go with Rokk's father. He survived the firebombing.
We saw Imra's mom in Secrets, but I don't remember what happened to her. Garth's parents were reanimated by Mordru (I think it was both of them) in v4.
Thoth is correct, Rokk's father. Imra was one of the "five Legion Orphans" in Adventure Comics # 356, so her parents must have been dead by then, though we don't know any details; Garth's parents' deaths in a spaceship accident were revealed as having happened a year prior to the story in Superboy # 207; and Rokk's mother died in the fireballing in LSH # 296.
for thothy!
Which poor Legionnaire got to be the test subject for Infectious Lass' powers in her first rejected application?
It was!
And thanks for the details on the founders parents.
Over to you!
In the Bloodlines Annual, Jamm came to the future because someone accidentally activated a time-retrieval program for Timber Wolf. On that same computer, there was a second time-retrieval program - who was that meant for?
Phase, who might have been in the L.E.G.I.O.N. around that time?
Neither Gemini nor Phase.
Karate Kid from the '70s?
Mon-el who might have been Valor back then?
thoth lad has it, pretty much. It was specifically Batch SW6 Valor that the other program was set to look for.
Phew! Good question. It was such a rubbish tie in character with Jamm, that I've not reread it.
New Q soon... it might appear sooner if I use a tome bubble.
Looks like the time bubble is in the repair shop
Crumbs! Starfinger is going after the Giant Hall of Fame: Stone statues of great men (no women) of history!
But who is immortalised as a statue? There are 7, and I'll need five of them for a correct answer
I can't remember if they were "real life" people or not!
Abraham Lincoln
Christopher Columbus
Warren Churchill
Napoleon
George Washington
Abraham Lincoln
Christopher Columbus
Good start!
Abraham Lincoln
Christopher Columbus
Albert Einstein
Benjamin Franklin
Thomas Jefferson
Abraham Lincoln
Christopher Columbus
Benjamin Franklin

Leonardo DaVinci
Picasso
Da vinci was another! One to get!
Not Newton...
Abraham Lincoln
Christopher Columbus
Benjamin Franklin
Leonardo DaVinci
Abraham Lincoln
Christopher Columbus
Benjamin Franklin
Leonardo DaVinci
Michaelangelo?
Arrrgh! I've just spotted that Ibby managed to guess it was Shakespeare! Sorry Andy, I must have scrolled past it on the phone.
The full list was...
Columbus
Shakespeare
Edison
Lincoln
Franklin
DaVinci
Beethoven
No worries... Ibby takes it!
drat my uncontrollable invisibility, causing even my guesses to be unseen!
ok let's see...
who stole the Hope Diamond?
Ah, that was a good issue. This was the back up story in Adventure #301. Legion applicant Hope Girl stole the Hope Diamond in order to use its powers to get membership to the Legion. But the gem was owned by the Spiffany family gem empire, and they fought to get it back. Although Hope Girl's family had lost the diamond to scoundrels, and powers were only granted to members of her family, she had to return it under the UP law the team operated under. It was an early example of the team being on different sides of an issue, only to all agree that without the law, any society, future or otherwise, would not stand.
Tenzil Kem would eat the Hope Diamond two issues later as part of his initiation into the Legion. Critics look back at the issue and say that the obvious thief was the person who named themselves after it, as Hope Girl did, ruining the mystery. But Hope Girl stood for so much more than tha. She stood for an ideal. Failing that, to paraphrase Spiffany critics are "Stupid, stupid, stupid." Thanks for that question Ibby.
Alas, Hope Girl has not appeared outside of thoth's imagination yet.
And it was not Magpie.
It wasn't? It's tough doing quizes when you're connected to the multiverse
Was it the luck lords?
Sadly, you have to remember that you're in THIS universe only
Nope, not the Luck Lords.
Clue: this was in the Reboot, but done by a character who also appeared in the Preboot
Ahhhh the Reboot. Obviously my specialty (LOL) ... I'm going to say Leland McCauley?
Sadly, you have to remember that you're in THIS universe only
Funnily enough, I tell Douglas Nolan this *all* the time, only to get caught out myself.
Was it the
Emerald Empress?
Nah, she has a very nice Emerald. What would she do with a diamond?
Ahhhh the Reboot. Obviously my specialty (LOL) ... I'm going to say Leland McCauley?
Missed this, apologies. Not Leland. But, the FINANCIER of the theft was in a position similar to him (and only appeared in the Reboot).
The actual thief was a good guy in the Preboot.
It WAS Kono! She was hired by a businessman called Viktor Rhysson.
Nah, she has a very nice Emerald. What would she do with a diamond?
Why, crush it like the impostor gem it is!
Did Mon El/Valor pinch it?
Thanks! So, a new question...
Whose powers was Duplicate Boy's unable to duplicate, causing him to instead pass out from the attempt?
Is that the White Witch because he has trouble dealing with magic?
I remembered that scene from the Magic Wars, which is why I specified that the attempt I'm referring to caused him to pass out. He may not have (normally) been able to duplicate the White Witch's abilities, but he did not pass out when attempting to do so.
hmmm...
an empowered Jimmy Olsen?
Neither Jimmy Olson nor Darkseid.
Not a Dial H user (though I do remember the Composite Man having a problem with Lori).
Bah! fiendishly worded question
I remember he got thumped by a dragon's tail in that one too. He was using Superboy's powers, but I don't think it was using those that caused him to pass out.
(using the Darkseid guess) Did he go up against Validus at some point?
That's it, thoth! He tried to duplicate Validus's powers in Superboy # 219, but his body couldn't handle it and he passed out. You're up!
An assist to Andy from whom I learned to "think big" for this question.
There was a story he (Duplicate Boy, not Andy) was in that I was sure had been written fro Ultra Boy. I wonder if that was it?
Dial H: The narcotic of the 31st century.
Question: Which villain from the 20th century did the Legionnaires face in an Underworld Unleashed Crossover?
An assist to Andy from whom I learned to "think big" for this question.
There was a story he (Duplicate Boy, not Andy) was in that I was sure had been written fro Ultra Boy. I wonder if that was it?
Dial H: The narcotic of the 31st century.
OMG. The Dial H 31st century narcotic story was based on my life!
Question: Which villain from the 20th century did the Legionnaires face in an Underworld Unleashed Crossover?
Errrr I'm going to go with ... Black Manta?
It was indeed Chronos. I don't have all the issues but Lori Morning may have made an early, if not first, appearance there.
So while Andy changes into a reader inspired character to take vengeance on DC for stealing his life, it's over to Chaim for the next question.
I believe that story was indeed Lori's first appearance.
What was the real name of the Lord of Chaos who Jo fell in love with in ancient Egypt?
Something else else with lots of consonants
Ktharyaaa or something? I note the "real name" prevents me from guessing Tinya, who the demon changed into, or the name of the woman whose form it initially took. Another well worded question.
That's not it, but it's clear you remember the issue well.
Wow - GREAT question. I am stumped
That's not it, but it's clear you remember the issue well.
Pharaoh dispatches Nabu (wearing helm of fate) to dispatch the Lord of Chaos. Nabu is peeved because he's been watching this one, hoping it would lead to larger demons.
Nabu confronts the demon, and she goes form the nice person we've seen to a thing with lots of mouths. They plan to use Jo as a vessel?
Jo's doing some farm work, when his partner runs up.
The partner is easily splorped by Nau in front of Jo, changing briefly into Tinya just before it happens in a last plea for help.
Rather than a big battle, Jo doesn't get to really fight Nabu and is returned to his home time
That's how I remember it. I just don't remember it with name. The partner's name was some like Ayesha? But can't recall the demons.
I'm still none the wiser on this one. I can peek, if no one else is going to get it?
I remember the story but have no idea of the name
OK, I won't keep you all waiting any longer. The name was Hytuurnus.
Whoever wants the next question can take it.
More vowels than I thought...
Oh and thanks for the question, that was an interesting sub plot. They kept Jo's sun tan for a while to show he'd been away.
Let's keep the thread going...
Tinya Wazzo once shocked the UP assembly by phasing through something. What?
The Holy Shrub That Must Never Be Phased Through, sending the United Planets into civil war?
Alas no. she phased through something that one would expect to see in government offices
A conference table from below, surprising and shocking the delegates?
Closer, but no.
She phased through something which was important and emblematic of the UP, causing Winema to chide her for disrespect
Ooh beaten on guessing flag. What else would be important to UP delegates. You can't really phase through an expense account or omnicoms to all the relatives and friends who are oddly on the payroll.
The phased through a planetary chance machine that bestowed that day's bonus kickback?
Flag is a good guess but no
Planetary chance machine is actually also pretty close... think about what it looks like
a weird acupuncture exhibit She phased through a globe of the Earth?
She phased through a pinball machine
a weird acupuncture exhibit She phased through a globe of the Earth?
Close enough! it was a globe of the UP!
I was wondering what a globe of the UP would look like, so I went with Earth in the end. New question later on.
Here is a picture.
I always did wonder if that globe was intended to be an accurate representation of the galaxy...
Ah, Ithought that *was* a giant planetary chance machine. Like the one outside Legion HQ
I've a post somewhere showing that they could be imprisoned Brain Globes.
Imprisoned Brain Globes? Have Brainy and Imra been plotting again?
By Rambat! How can we stop them?
How did Vi take Ayla's mind off of being de-aged by Glorith?
She told her a bedtime story?
She did! It was in a v4 Annual. I've not read it all the way through. It seems to be a Wizard of Oz sort of thing with the Legionnaires as characters. I've heard it's quite good, just not my sort of thing.
Over to you Ibby!
Cool! sorry for missing this, was in military leadership training
an easy one I hope
During the Team 20/30 split in the Reboot, only one Legionnaire switched teams (i.e. was in Team 30 and joined Team 20 in the middle of the split).
Who?
Errr I have no idea ... Chameleon Boy?
Nope to both
XS tried to be the one to join the 20th century team, as she had the medi kit that could save Cosmic Boy's life. But she was stopped by an invisible barrier...
The Legionnaire who is the correct answer was able to breach the barrier another way...
Ooooh close
Andromeda?
This was after Andromeda's membership ðŸ˜
And before Thunder's membership
During the Team 20/30 split in the Reboot, only one Legionnaire switched teams (i.e. was in Team 30 and joined Team 20 in the middle of the split).
Who?
Not
Brainiac 5
Chameleon
XS
Andromeda
Thunder
this incident happened after Andromeda's membership but before Thunder's
there was an impenetrable barrier which this Legionnaire breached
BAH, I thought I was onto a winner there.
Lyle?
Triad ("Hope Superboy's free Saturday night")
Triad ("Hope Superboy's free Saturday night")
And Superboy was free one night... just not in the way Triad hoped
Over to you, Reboot!
Sticking with Triad, her chest symbol was changed during the early postboot. Describe the change.
Was it the shape of the symbol? from three interlocking triangles to four?
Was it the shape of the symbol? from three interlocking triangles to four?
No, she never had the Triforce as her symbol!
Was it the colors? Like maybe the position of the orange, purple and white parts changed?
I think Ibby's answer counts as a win, but if not - basically the main triangle stayed in place but the three within were flipped vertically. Instead of the white triangle at the top, it was now on the bottom. It went from a "Y" to an ... upside-down "Y."
I think Ibby's answer counts as a win, but if not - basically the main triangle stayed in place but the three within were flipped vertically. Instead of the white triangle at the top, it was now on the bottom. It went from a "Y" to an ... upside-down "Y."
I'll give it to you, since you described most of the major parts, but you forest-for-the-trees missed what was the main thing I was looking for: Originally, the segments inside
weren't triangles, they were diamonds!
Description: Triad's symbol change
I remember this change happening pretty early!
Didn't the SW6 Triad also have a different symbol? It was more similar to the first one here, but was still pretty different
I remember this change happening pretty early!
And yet, you didn't remember what the change was
[I think it was late in the first year or early second year, can't recall exactly when offhand]
Didn't the SW6 Triad also have a different symbol? It was more similar to the first one here, but was still pretty different
Having looked at covers, on some of the Legionnaires covers it's obscured but
may be upside-down (point down), but on the covers it's clear (including LSH #41), it's the same as the postboot Y1 symbol.
I remember this change happening pretty early!
And yet, you didn't remember what the change was
[I think it was late in the first year or early second year, can't recall exactly when offhand]
Recognition and recall are different things
And recall is harder than recognition.
I think I've asked this before but it will keep it moving...
Who was the first Legionnaire to set foot in Titans Tower? This does not count the super cousins, though this Legionnaire may still have been there first.
Andy has it. It was Cosmic Boy during the Legends mini series.
Yeah I vaguely remember the scene ... Even as a kid, I thought it was forced
Hmmmm... new Q up soon
At the time of Crisis and Legends, we had the Justice League of Detroit. Normally, everyone would have gone to the satellite. Instead, Titans Tower became the focal point of DC's heroes. This also matched their sales prominence at the time too.
Ahhhh so true, Thoth. I didn't realize how taking the satellite out of the equation would affect the rest of the DCU
One day I'll get back to my JLD in Bits. I've got the redone plots for Crisis just sitting there...
before Cosmic Boy's visit, I do recall pre-Crisis Superman visiting the Titans' Isle, but not going inside. He had questions for the Titans, and luckily they were all posing outside in a group shot.
Crisis #11-12 were technically post-Crisis, even if all the changes had yet to be implemented (the Lex who appeared was definitely the pre-C version), so the Supes who entered the Tower in #11 (as I recall) shouldn't fount as a Legionnaire.
So even without the qualifier, Cosmic Boy, I am pretty certain, was the first inside.
OK new Q...
Name the other 3 Legion finalists with Umbra and Sensor
Huh. Well isn't that a kettle of fish.
Got it in one
I would also have accepted Arm-Fall-Off Boy for Splitter
Over to you, Ibby
Wasn't planning on putting fish in a kettle... I must have read that issue 5 times so I remember well
New Q up soon!
Why did Leland McCauley reject Polar Boy from his Workforce?
McCauley was really Sun Boy with a distorter? Meaney!
Dirk just couldn't resist doing it again in another 'boot...
But no.
McCauley hates iced coffee?
Dirk just couldn't resist doing it again in another 'boot...
Tee hee. No, I really can't let that one alone
Too young, and he had made the change to grown ups only?
thoth has it! McCauley thought Brek was too young. He hasn't made the Workforce all adults only yet, Spider-Girl and Evolvo and Karate Kid were still members. And he recruited Particon, Radion and Blast-Off. Poor Brek was so short that he thought he wasn't a teen yet...
Oh yay! I actually thought Polar Boy appeared much later than that.
New Q soon...
He did appear again much later as a Legion Cadet. Sadly he never got much to do before that, though he was shown forming a Legion of Subs along with Night Girl.
It's as a Cadet that I remember him. A Reboot Legion of Subs. Were the others In it?
Lydda was the only one we knew for sure was in the Subs. The others were in shadow.
But many other Subs did appear elsewhere, so they could have been. We saw Stone Boy, Chlorophyll Kid, Fire Lad, Color Kid and Infectious Lass elsewhere.
The relative of which Legionnaire joined the super hero group The Ringers?
Driana, sister of Gim Allon. In the Reboot after he died.
Ibby is right. I just read the Science Police mini. It wasn't bad.
Over to you Ibby!
Yeah, it wasn't a bad mini at all.
Okay...
Which Legionnaire kissed Monstress' hand?
I think Thoth is right, but just in case...
Invisible Kid?
Nope to Cham and nope to Lyle.
Future has it! It was Jan, in L* 77, after Candi complimented him on being eccentric yet having a good heart - he returned the compliment (by calling her nicely eccentric) and kissed her hand.
Good one Future. I'd have been slowly working my way through the cast on that one.
Which Legionnaire fetched Sun Boy out of a V.R. game after two Legionnaires crashed on Orando?
Ibby has it. It was Gates from the v6 annual.
I thought a question with a traditionally postboot character interacting with a preboot one would throw people off longer.
As a big fan of Gates, I made sure to get his appearance here despite it being in a different reality
Okay...
Name 6 characters who were never Active Legionnaires in the Reboot era, but appeared on the pullout poster in Legionnaires 50
Bouncing Boy
White Witch
RJ Brande
Marla
Lori Morning
Tenzil
Chuck wasn't Bouncing Boy, but he counts.
All correct except White Witch. Lori was in one of her H-Dial forms, I thought she would be the toughest.
That was pretty good since I really just started off with Chuck. Why I preferred typing "Bouncing Boy" instead of the shorter "Chuck" or just "Mysa" while on the train is a mystery.
What about the little monkey that hung around with Brainy?
I forgot Koko the monkey, he was there! He was written out before DNA took over and I just forgot about him.
The sixth one I thought of was Shvaughn.
Space Monkey!
Ah officer Erin. I'm not sure if she would have crossed my mind. I don't usually put the SP folks in the same mental pic as the main team. Was she liaison officer in the reboot too?
Yes, he was liaison officer too. But the writers gave her a much closer professional relationship with the team. She seemed to spend much of her time at Legion HQ. she was even stranded in the 20th century with half the team, after helping them fight the Emerald Eye.
Brainy's mother took on a superhero identity. What codename did she use?
I should know this... Twelfth Woman?
Oh, well done, Sir! I thought it would get at least a guess out of you. Over to you Ibby!
I have read that issue at least thrice before
Good Q though!
Which Legionnaires' parents were employed by Brande Industries?
No to both (though if you can cite a source I will accept)
Heck no, I'm totally guessing
Lyle?
No, no, and haha. Cham's dad RJ started Brande Industries, in a way is employed by them but does not count for my question
I was thinking Cham but couldn't remember who his mom was. Then I wondered if RJ was the mom and that it was the dad I didn't know.
Gim?
Nah, her mom was an archeologist
I was wondering if Brande hired her to find relics. Ah well....
Shikari once her race were providing travel for the UP?
it was! Legionnaires 71 revealed that both his parents work in a Brande Industries plant on Braal
Was that before the Legion was formed or did Brande give them jobs as a sweetener to Rokk. In the preboot he left Braal for work to support his family, after all.
The issue implied that the Krinns were employed only recently. It's not clear if RJ Brande personally intervened to get them jobs though.
How did Luronu's second body return?
Enslaved by Glorith, she set out to capture the Legionnaires who conspired against Glorith?
Lu's second body was found at the local bar, entertaining people with her stirring renditions of American R & B ballads.
It was country and western classics Andy. So close, but I think I ... no wait Ibby was right! Glorith un splurrrped Lu 2 giving her back her human form and sending her hunting for that wascally Wegion
Over to you Ibby!
Be vewy vewy quiet...
In Superboy's Legion, why was Ferro Lad rejected at the tryouts?
His power was to turn into Kryptonite instead of Iron in that continuity?
nope. right track though, it had nothing to do with his powers
It was country and western classics Andy. So close, but I think I ... !
I could SO see her singing country western!
Who can forget that forlorn country classic "I lost my man to my other self"?
Best sung by a trio.
Silly man, though. he should have stuck with all three instead of just picking one. oh Chuck, you're tearing this girl apart.
As for the question Psychic link with his brother causing him a problem?
Nope, no evidence of Douglas Nolan's existence in that story.
Ibby, did you see Andy's answer?
ooh, thanks thothy for being my eyes!
yes - and he wouldn't take it off! over to Andy!
Rats, I could've repeated Andy's answer and pretended not to have seen it
But, your conscience would have gotten to you. Imagine Jiminy Cricket whispering to you all through the night...
I've not seen anything with Jiminy Cricket in it, so I'm not quite sure what he'd be whispering.
Maybe you should watch Pinocchio.
Thanks Ibby. I did know what he was that but found it easier to spell Jiminy Cricket on the train on the way in this morning
I mean, it's not as though I was raised in a cave or some...oh, wait, I was ... but not a cave with no access to the outside world. US Forces would drop a container one every year or two...
oh thothy, no shame being raised in a cave. it's what you do out of the cave that matters
Bad time to mention that the cave had an outdoor toilet then?
That's a different kind of matter...
Ah, happy days of going out to the toilet... feeling the fresh mountain air against my face... with a decent read under one arm... and a pile of '90s image comics* for paper under the other...
*insert your own company if you happen to have liked that period.
Make sure you don't clean yourself off with poison ivy though...
I wonder if all this off-topic posting has made Andy realize he has the next round?
ANDY! IT'S YOUR TURN
That should hopefully help. Now, back to the pressing topic of which comics are best for toilet paper...
Anything with Rob Liefeld's name on it? all that extra padding should make them more comfy to use
I find that some of the giant shoulder pads can give some of the paper a bit of an edge.
Sent Andy a PM.
perhaps the shoulder pads scared him away
Ah...sending him a PM...yes...good idea...steps back from giant carving on the moon...
It was either that or smoke signals.
Ok, OK I'm back
I was totally guessing on the mask thing. And shoulder plans do not bother me
Now, let me see ... I'm away from my comic collection and my hard drive with digital Legion comics ...
Name the Legion of Substitute Heroes in the Legion animated cartoon and against whom did they first organize?
Color Kid
Infectious Lass
Porcupine Pete (leader, sort of)
Stone Boy
Chlorophyll kid
and versus Starfinger
That sounded pretty sure. I've still not seen any of the cartoon, so no use on this one.
Ibby's got it -- I thought it would be a little more wiggle room considering no Polar Boy!
Cool!
I just watched this episode again a few months ago, so it was fresh. I realize they left out the Subs who had more impressive powers - Polar Boy and Fire Lad were pretty powerful from the get go, just lacked control. Night Girl is plenty strong too.
That episode was hilarious. Color Kid especially. Subs did great teamwork. Starfinger was a hoot too
Okay let's see...
Which Legionnaire was mentioned in a riddle on the Big Bang Theory?
That must have been on here at some point. I didn't get past the first episode of it, and I saw that years after it launched.
New Q sooooon...
An embarrassed and upset United Planets sees the Legion defeat Praetor Lemnos? What do the United Planets do about it?
they formed the UP young heroes?
Nopes (or if they did it's not the answer I was looking for)
They.... were completely ungrateful?
Yay! They give the team funding, independence and make them equal to the SPs. Over to you Emily!
Yay! It feels so good to win. Mine is probably easy, but here it goes: What is the name of the ice cream parlor that Shadow Lass likes in the Adventure Era?
Ah, I guess I remember less from the Threeboot than I thought!
Was it Nine Planets ice cream parlor?
since Ibby probably has it, I'll make a poor attempt at a joke
Was it Mon and Jerry's?
I hear Mysa joined the Devil's Dozen after her ice cream buisness Hag-en Dazs were sued.
I'm glad I had a "real" guess, as I can't think of a joke to contribute now.
You are correct, Invisible Brainiac! Over to you, while I get some ice cream.
I'm glad I had a "real" guess, as I can't think of a joke to contribute now.
You are correct, Invisible Brainiac! Over to you, while I get some ice cream.
But which flavour?! So...many...choices...
Mmm, ice cream!
Speaking of ice cream, who once said "the ice creams are one me!", and got three ice cream scoops on himself/herself for his/her trouble?
Cham before he was asked to leave the parlour because they didn't serve Durlans. Superboy learns that xenophobia is alive and well in the future. Depressed that he would make no difference, Superboy quits in the 20th century. The Legion have to travel back and get Imra to mind wipe him....again.
No.
Are you channeling the grim and gritty age there, thothy?
Is there another channel?
When Superboy goes nuts from all that mind altering, I won't say I told you so. I won't because I'll be in hiding and won't want to draw attention to myself.
Gim?
How do they even buy ice cream? They have no pockets.
Not Gim, though he was a member when this happened
Going with food related powers. Was it Tenzil?
It was! In the Reboot, Tenzil was a chef. He was showing off in front of the Legionnaires, and ended up with ice cream on his face.
Triad's line: "Good thing you didn't say "on the house". We'd be cleaning up for days!"
Kid Psycho was a mutant, giving him psychokinetic powers. But what incident concerning his parents resulted in him getting those powers?
The only thing I know about Kid Psycho is that he had what is possibly my favorite death scene in all of comics.
So this is a pure guess.
His parents were scientists who got exposed to radiation in a lab?
His parents were indeed exposed to radiation. But it wasn't in a lab. Hint: There have been a few of these in Legion stories.
They were fighting a space monster that looked like a big squid
That's the one Andy. The squid, along with the dragon, whale and ultra beast are just some of the things that are going to surprise NASA if they haven't been reading the Legion.
Over to you!
I think I should teach a class on Legion astronomy!
Alright, new Q up soon...
Alright, who sacrificed themself to save Matter-Eater Lad while in prison?
Got it in one!
Of course, only WE would revere the incredible heroism of Blockade Boy!
Poor, underappreciated Blockade Boy...
What can be found on Warnabros?
Cartoon versions of the Legion?
Worms that eat their own tails?
nope
it is some sort of institution
Khundish Institute of Science?
nope to both.
this institution was quite prominent in the Preboot, but not in the Reboot.
A factory where they made robots?*
*many of whom would go on to conduct theme park tours**.
** before they revolted declaring their independence from dressing up as human creations.***
*** Just as the Zoo Crew arrived in a multiversal crossover, resulting in the robots attacking!****
**** Fortunately Yankee Poodle taught them to create their *own* entertainments and culture, like the country whose flag she proudly wore*****
***** The last of the Robot Rebels seized up from sitting watching cartoons and drinking too much motor oil without getting any exercise******
****** A statue of the Zoo Crew stands in a Warnabros lot, confusing visitors as they don't resemble cartoons from anywhere in that universe.
hate to ruin the thoth's effort, but no
Legionnaires have been members of this institution
very close, but not quite
Yes! The short-lived Reboot era Legion Academy was started on Warnabros! We never actually saw it though...
Over to you, Andy.
Good Q&A - I couldn't get past Mantauk point for the Academy!
Hmmmm.. it was the hint that made me think of it (since the Legionnaires don't really join anything but the Legion)
New Q up in a bit...
OK... which Legion Academy graduate became a solo superhero (not with the Legion team or the Subs or the Academy or the SP)?
UGH - I didn't think this through
I was thinking of someone else but Shadow Kid also fits the bill
Over to you, Ibby
cool!
who were you thinking of, Myg? I'm having a hard time thinking of another answer
whose life did Magno save while fighting Mordru?
Kinetix?
cool!
who were you thinking of, Myg? I'm having a hard time thinking of another answer
And I was thinking of Laurel Kent who was brought back in Superman/Batman as a hero - that Manhunter kidnapped her!
nope, thoth already guessed Zoe
didn't realize Laurel appeared in Superman/Batman, hmm!
nope. this happened in the first battle with Mordru, which ended with Sklar being destroyed
Who did Magno save in the battle against Mordru?
Not Kinetix, Violet, Particon
Blacula has it!!
Live Wire broke ranks by sustaining his attack for too long, allowing Mordru to adjust and counter it. Mordru sent Garth blasting towards a cliff. Magno managed to save him just in time. Garth would return the favor by saving Dyrk in the next battle, though not before Dyrk lost his powers.
And didn't Garth consider Dyrk an unworthy replacement for Rokk at the time too?
Pathos in Writing 101 Workshop will be at 10 am in the Stern building.
---
Q: Who is the only known humanoid to master Gil’dishpan dimension-travel technology?
yeah, and after that Garth would çonsider Dyrk almost as good a friend as he did Rokk.
Hmmm, I have to write a scene with them both in my fic...
humanoid to master tech, hmmm
Pulsar Stargrave?
Not LM.
CLUE: This character is a villain.
YES(PER) lad!
Your Q, KKII!
d'oh! Now I remember, Esper Lass telepathically stole the knowledge of the teleportation tech!
Yes she did, escaping with the LSV from their exile
New Q up in a bit ...
Ok... Which Legion parent was threatened by Mano?
Good Q by Blacula there. >glare from Andy< Um....as I'm sure this one will be too... shuffles away...
Phantom Girl?
Oh wow - not Phantom Girl or RJ Brande (at least in the example I'm thinking of)
Gosh, did thoth and I make such wild guesses that we deserve an "oh wow"?
Saturn Girl?
LOL no I just didn't think through the possibilities
The question is which Legion parent -- not the Legionnaire ... so you've both not got it
Wouldn't the parent of which Legionnaire have worked just as well?
Mrs Allon
Yes it would have. My question framing has been sloppy
YES
Marte Allon was threatened by Mano on her election night as the Fatal 5 captured the Legion on behalf of THE DARK MAN...'
Over to Thoth!
Tee hee! To the LW Security Office for your punishment young Andy!
New Q.... around the same time as I post all the others I'm piling up.
Tee hee! To the LW Security Office for your punishment young Andy!
New Q.... around the same time as I post all the others I'm piling up.
Waiting with baited breath ... for the Q and my punishment!
Andy seems eager for his punishment
It's always creepy when others enjoy corporal punishment. That's my job.
You know Corporal Punishment, the nephew of General Misdemeanour. His '30s music hall renditions are hilarious. What were you thinking. Oh, Legion World....
How did Superboy figure out which of two Rokk Krinn's was the real one?
He disguised a plastic thingie to look metallic, and the real Cos wasn't able to affect it with its powers while the fake one could.
Got it in One! Another Mordru plot, back when he was phoning it in to pay off his alimony from another galaxy.
Over to you ibby!
Mordru, Mordru, Mordru... Silly, Dark Lord!
Mordru and John Cleese have their own support group: Silly Walk/Silly Hat
Let's not forget that ... interesting... fishnet outfit he once had
okay let's see...
Which villain from another universe expressed surprise that Reboot Violet could grow?
Persuader? He was always getting thumped by Gim.
You know you'd read Sexy Sixties Swinger Mordru Monthly!
nope to both
Micro Lad would have been apt
clue - the villain was punching a giant Vi when this happened
Nope
Which villain from another universe expressed surprise that Reboot Violet could grow?
Clue: the villain was punching Violet then
Not:
Persuader
Superboy Prime
Saturn Queen
Micro Lad
Mordru
Grimbor
Blacula has it!
it was a throwaway scene, but a nice nod to differences among the universes.
Was it from Lo3W? It seemed familiar.
So my copy of the LoSH Silver Age Omnibus Volume 1 just arrived in the mail and I am excited to finally read these earliest of Legion adventures. So expect an Adventure-era question shortly!
Yes, it was LO3W.
cool, Adventure Era!
According to the original Legion Constitution, when must all members salute?
When an attractive sentient walks past in a mini skirt?
When the Legion flag is raised?
When there is a visiting diplomat?
"When in the presence of the Legion flag" so IB is basically correct.
I cede the floor to you IB.
Ah, I was just too specific.
was this used by Dynamo Boy to expel someone? i don't think Dream Girl used it in her intro story.
let's see...
Someone once mistook Monstress for a Khund, and got a mouthful. This character shared the surname (and look) of which famous 20th century D.C. character?
Lex Luthor?
I'm not sure if the flag-saluting rule ever appeared in a story; I got it from a selection of Constitution rules printed in the Omnibus.
Not Luthor, but you are thinking in the right direction
Hm, I may have gotten the flag saluting confused with the many stories where Legionnaires were expelled for contrived reasons, because of mysterious plots, and helped along by Legionnaires suddenly acting mean and out of character!
Someone once mistook Monstress for a Khund, and got a mouthful. This character shared the surname (and look) of which famous 20th century D.C. character?
Not
Lex Luthor
Two-Face
Brainiac 5
of these guesses, I would say Luthor is the closest by association.
yes! it was a redhead with the surname Olsen! Monstress gave him an earful, and Kid Q II had to defend him
The leader of the Ansi people
Catspaw's boyfriend who turned her in to the Dominators, resulting in her getting her powers?
IB has it.
Catspaw must be one of the least explored Legionnaires ever. If there was ever a totally new reboot of the team, I'd like to see her included and developed.
She does have a potentially interesting backstory there. the search for Ansis! will Catspaw get revenge??
okay let's see...
What alternate code name did Gates suggest for himself, in protest of his teammates' dependence on his powers?
Taxi?
Catspaw must be one of the least explored Legionnaires ever. If there was ever a totally new reboot of the team, I'd like to see her included and developed.
We should start a list of those characters - Catspaw, Chemical Kid, Mendalla, Color Kid (hey! he's one of my faves and I'll throw him in everywhere)
They could do the new Legion from the new Legionnaires POV
Taxi it was!
I would add Particon to that list - interesting powers IMO but they did little with her!
I just did a random guess
New Q up soon...
Who taught Superboy to "never take anything for granted"?
Who taught Superboy to "never take anything for granted"?
Not:
RJ Brande
Young Bruce Wayne
Supergirl
Mon-El
wait, I think this was a quote in the Retroboot, no?
Cosmic Boy?
SOOO not retroboot
Neither Cham nor Cosmic Boy
This was a lesson Clark learned around town
Not Pa Kent nor Professor Potter
But getting closer!
To Recap:
Who taught Superboy to "never take anything for granted"?
Not:
RJ Brande
Young Bruce Wayne
Supergirl
Mon-El
Pete Ross
Chameleon Boy
Cosmic Boy
Pa Kent
Professor Potter
HINT: He learned it around town
NOT a lady of ill repute
Chief O'Hara
Lex Luthor
Chief... uh, chief... i don't know any other chiefs
CMK has it!
In the classic Superboy & LSH 227, the Legion is looking for Pulsar Stargrave. Superboy tells Projectra and Phantom Girl that "Things look quiet at this airfilter plant -- but if there's one lesson I learned from Chief Parker back in Smallville -- it's never take ANYTHING for GRANTED"
(Clark mansplaining to these particular two about illusions is a sign of the era)
Over to you, CMK
Who was the latest-joining Legionnaire that Superboy had a statuette of?
None of those. To recap, not:
Ferro Lad
Timber Wolf
Dawnstar
Shadow Lass
Wildfire
None of these were the latest-joining Legionnaires of whom Superboy possessed a statuette.
Recap - not:
Ferro Lad
Timber Wolf
Dawnstar
Shadow Lass
Wildfire
Blok
Polar Boy
Night Girl
That's correct! Superboy's Legionnaire figurines collection, as seen in Legion (Baxter series) # 37, contains all the members up through the White Witch.
I always forget White Witch exists for some reason.
I always forget White Witch exists for some reason.
I think a lot of writers do too
There was a pretty big gap between her membership and the next batch of 5, so I often remember her fairly easily. I also liked her principled stand against using the Infinite Man vs the Time Trapper
ok let's see...
which Legionnaire got blinded by Dirk Morgna?
Blacula has it.
In what was a rather stupid story for most people involved, Dirk breaks out of the hospital where he is being held to go see his father. Possibly blinded himself by the *gasp* pain of not seeing his father, and thinking that *double gasp* his father does NOT love him anymore, Dirk burns a freaking hole in the Morgna headquarters, proceeds to "help" (I kid you not, he says "I may be the boss' son but I can still help out!" by grabbing hold of a canister of Dr. Regulus' RADIOACTIVE GOLD, and when the canister begins to burn in his hands, he just says "gee, I should complain to dad about the cheap materials he is using!"
Element Lad transmutes the canister, probably saving Metropolis from disaster. Instead of talking Dirk down, he tries to cage Dirk in inertron, upon which point Dirk blasts Jan and blinds him. Whoo!
So Dirk mopes about how his father hates him for being a fiery freak, but has no qualms about using his powers to do stupid things like blinding Legionnaires and burning down walls and destroying hazardous materials while "trying to help out".
The Legionnaires do decently here - Jan prevents Dirk from causing a holocaust, XS has the presence of mind to take Jan for treatment ASAP, Jo launches himself at Jan BUT anticipates the counter-attack and makes himself invulnerable, and Zoe does a decent job of caging Dirk, delaying him long enough for Dirk's dad to show up. But Zoe's leadership is so not there (well, I don't love her for her leadership qualities anyway
Wow, this issue bothered me more than I thought it did
Over to you Blacula!
I barely remember this issue. I think it occurred during one of the Reboot's low points IIRC? Post-Anomaly, pre-Blight? I hated that period.
The Reboot treated Dirk so weirdly actually. It was like they didnt want him to be a member but then gave him the powers, back-story and angsty sub-plots of a member anyway. They should have just had him join. At least that way we would have been spared the messy membership(?) of that murderer Inferno, who contributed nothing during her time with the team other than forced conflict and somehow received a (really weird and boring) mini-series over literally dozens of better characters. /rant
New Q soon
no, this was actually just after the rather brilliant first two years. LSH 81 - just after the Chu sting and just before the Team20/30 split
i totally agree with you over having Dirk instead of the female Inferno. They didn't even offer her membership because of how horrible she would have been as a team member, I bet.
^ Haha That would have been a harsh sort of passive-aggressiveness: "You're stuck in the past with us and forced to live with us and help us out, but no, you're never actually going to being of us."
OK: Which Legionnaire's costume did Krypto once tear a whole in the backside of? (Not including Superboy in case he once did it to him too.)
Not Brainy.
And I apologize to everyone for the embarrassing spelling mistake in my question!
I liked how Dirk was originally introduced as a victim in a case the Legion was called in on, and it seemed like there would be time to develop his powers and story gradually leading to Legion membership. But then they went and did an end-run around that.
I see the first Dirk story as a sign of Mark Waid's hands on the tiller of the early post-boot Legion, and the second Dirk story as Roger Stern's.
Star Boy?
The first and the second Dirk stories certainly had very different "flavors".
^ Haha That would have been a harsh sort of passive-aggressiveness: "You're stuck in the past with us and forced to live with us and help us out, but no, you're never actually going to being of us."
Not that she wanted to be. it is pretty telling though, how got a membership offer and Inferno never did
In which Legionnaire's costume did Krypto once tear a hole in the backside? (Not including Superboy in case it happened to him too.)
NOT:
Brainiac 5
Sun Boy
Star Boy
Mon-el
Do you ever have one of those days where you just can't get a sentence to read the way you want it to? I feel like my question is bad English but I think my head's too sleepy find a better version.
I seem to vaguely remember this scene... hm...
Cosmic Boy?
As seen on the cover of Adventure Comics #364...
http://dcindexes.com/features/comic.php?comicid=1223...it was Cosmic Boy!
Your Q IB.
huh! i knew the three founders were involved somehow.
okay...
what code name did Shvaughn Erin give herself?
Nice butt!
Hmmm... Liaison Lass?
Yup! As Legion liaison, it fit. Over to you Myg!
Lucky guess
Who kept the return of Bouncing Boy's power a secret?
Ibby has it! In the backup story to Superboy and the Legion #230, Chuck gets his powers back while beating the LSH HQ security system with Dvron.
Good guesses though - one wonders why DD or Imra wouldn't have picked up on it
Over to you, Ibby
That issue also made me wonder. When Dvron pulls a blaster on Chuck, his dialogue makes it seem like he KNOWS it is Chuck. So... what gives? Does Dvron just really like shooting people?
What famous modern-day landmark did Jan Arrah have to transmute?
yes! a Daxamite was trying to spear them with it
Total guess.
Um... ok ... new Q up soon ...
Ok, why did Sun Boy give Supergirl her Satan Girl outfit?
To keep her identity secret?
Kind of ... but not quite
To make her into Satan Girl again?
LOL ... Sun Boy giving her the Satan Girl costume to hold led to a mysterious surprise!
It was Proty in disguise?
Nope... the clue is VERY literal and should be spoken out loud
ohhh nice clue! as a memento for when she had to leave the Legion!
YES! Sun Boy gives Kara her Satan Girl outfit before she has to leave the Legion due to Earth being covered by a green K cloud
Over to you, Ibby!
thanks for the clue Myg! interesting question that raised the nostalgia factor for me
How did Nightwind helps Legion cadets reach Metropolis when technology wasn't working? (the answer is a mode of transport)
Nope, no supernatural, magical creatures involved
Quis has it! Nightwind used her powers to, er, power the hang-gliders being used by the Cadets and Dr. Gym'll.
Bump for my learned friend, Mr Quislet Esq.
Oh my goodness.
Question, question, question,
How did Calorie Queen become as strong as 3 men?
Her father experimented on her, granting her the power to convert whatever she eats into super strength?
Close enough. It never said that her father experimented on her. Just that he found a way to divert excess energy (that usually escaped from their pores) into her muscles.
Ah, perhaps it’s a sign that I always assume experiments and super powers go together
In End of an Era, Glorith and Mordru summoned an evil Legion. Which evil Legionnaire did Bouncing Boy take out?
Nope either
Bouncing Boy took out someone who was quite the heavy hitter
Superboy! "This'll teach you for making my wife fall for you!"
Er, not heavy hitter in the literal sense
This person almost took out the good Timber Wolf . the two good Element Lads also tried to take this person out
Speaking of Chemical King, what baffling sound distracted a Taurus Gang operative from killing Inivisible Kid, in his first Legion adventure with Chemical King?
A falling Ferro Lad statue?
Validus burping after Chemical King upset his tummy?
IB has the sound...sort of....why was that sound baffling?
the falling statue sounded like iron, but was made of plastic?
A human voice came from the statue as it fell?
It sounded like Validus's upset tummy?
yay!
what 20th century food did Legionnaires once compare to hatch sealant?
Nope. Spam was closer in terms of flavor
Spam has a flavor? LOL
Um... a salt lick?
Blacula has it! It was pizza, as seen in LSH v4 93!
Which kind of scares me, what the heck kind of hatch sealant do they make in the 30th century?
On the plus side, the Legionnaires certainly enjoyed it - Spark, Ultra Boy and Triad did anyway. Brainiac 5 was too absorbed with figuring out what it was made of (they don't have cheese in the 30th century? he was the one who observed that pizza stretches like Imskian hatch sealant but tastes like Rimborian hatch sealant... they eat hatch sealant in the future???) and Ultra Boy was saying how he wished Apparition could taste it. Gates hated it though and would have liked to "smother it in dralgo dung"...
OK I don't know what is going on with me at the moment but that is the second time in two days that I have posted some totally random response to a question that I have no idea what the true answer to is, only to find out that I'm right! Either the tiniest bits of comic book minutiae still remain vaguely in my head 20-30 years after I read them, or I am half Titanian.
---
Q: Which Legionnaire's flight ring did Booster Gold steal?
CorrectaMundo(K).
You're up.
I try
How did the Legion find Ultra Boy's hiding place on Rimbor when he went on the run for allegedly killing An Ryd?
Saturn Girl read some people’s minds?
Chameleon Boy was hiding on him?
Mon-el used his X-ray vision
Ibby, Chameleon Boy was actually HELPING Jo in that story.
Quis is correct enough for me to give him the next question. In fuller detail, Mon-El and Superboy used their X-Ray vision to scour all of Rimbor from orbit for lead-lined rooms that did not seem to be used for some purpose that legitimately required radiation-proof shielding.
ah, I remembered Cham's presence but forgot why he was there. Shades of Phantom Girl during that Adventure Era story where Jo faked being a criminal.
“Jingle
, Batman smells...”
Who did Night Girl & Shadow Lass fight in Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes #212?
It was a gang of thieves, but lead by who? If no one gets it by Saturday, the question is IB's
Sinde, Rokk's stand in girl friend. Then all three team up to beat up Rokk for being such a Space-Joik.
It was a gang of thieves, but lead by who? If no one gets it by Saturday, the question is IB's
Quis will be away for a while on vacation, so i think if nobody objects within the next 24 hours, I’ll go on and ask a new question.
I just checked to see whether any of us had lucked into the correct answer with Grimbor, Taurus or *cough* Sinde, but it turns out the answer was...
Crafty Colson, Gunner and Hunk
... so none of us had.
So I've got no problem with it if you want to take the next question IB.
mumble mutter... might have been Sinde.... stupid Rokk space joik.... mutter....mumble...

Thanks for checking, Blacula! I was pretty sure Grimbor, Taurus and Sinde *heh* weren't correct.
Who arranged for the Composite Man to be mis-delivered to a Metropolis storehouse?
I was pretty sure that Crafty Colson was the name of a children's television host on Prince Evillo's world
and maybe he was...
Who arranged for the Composite Man to be mis-delivered to a Metropolis storehouse?
Time Trapper?
CMK has it! Chu abused her position and connections to get the Composite Man waylaid in Metropolis.
Which Legion reject ended up killing the Legion leader by whom he/she/it was rejected?
Interesting question ... intrigued with how these responses tickle the answer from somewhere in our collective Legion memories
I'll start off with the sinister ARM FALL OFF BOY!!!!
I can't think of that many Legion leaders that have died... Lyle is the one who comes to mind...Dirk too... and I think Val... Hmm...
OK, I'll own up to it...it's a trick question...the Legion in question is not necessarily the Legion of Super-Heroes. There are a number of other teams in the book's history that have called themselves a Legion of some sort as well.
That puts it all into perspective!
There was a gas creature that killed Jungle King/Monster Master by turning him into gas...
That's the one! Yours, IB!
Well my next guess was going to be Validus ...
Yeah, nice tricky one!
When Leviathan was buried in the Reboot, all available Legionnaires were pallbearers, except one. Who was that?
Nope to both - neither was "available" at that point!
Yeah, nice tricky one!
When Leviathan was buried in the Reboot, all available Legionnaires were pallbearers, except one. Who was that?
... <choke> ...
TRIGGER WARNING!
<sob>
Yeah, nice tricky one!

... <choke> ...
TRIGGER WARNING!
<sob>
Sorry, Blacula! Let's have a cry together. *sob* Kole *sobe* Kinetix
and you have it, Zoe was too choked up to be a pallbearer!
Crumbs. I'm just used to people changing back to normal for a death scene. But if everyone (except Sob Sister) was a pallbearer, was he dedded at Levia-size? He's groaning out his final words to people, and all they can see is up a giant nostril. Poor guy.
Hey, will somebody remind me whether I'm supposed to take one drink or two whenever Ibby asks a question that has "Kinetix" as the answer?
I burned out all my brain cells in the Shots for Kole drinking game, so I dunno man
Name two villains who were, for a brief time, officially declared leader of the Legion of Super-Heroes.

He was giant, and that's why it wasn't an open-casket thing. (That and the fact that he was horribly burned by acid...)
Hey, will somebody remind me whether I'm supposed to take one drink or two whenever Ibby asks a question that has "Kinetix" as the answer?
I do switch it up from time to time, just to mess with you

Tharok and Dynamo Boy (Vorm)?
Hey, will somebody remind me whether I'm supposed to take one drink or two whenever Ibby asks a question that has "Kinetix" as the answer?
I think it's 2. But I could be drunk.
Name two villains who were, for a brief time, officially declared leader of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
Dynamo Boy for sure
Hmmm... how about Earth Man?
Kinetix
Kinetix
Kinetix
Kinetix
Oh wait, I have to ASK a trivia question about her to get everyone drunk...
cool!
Okay, let's see...
A bunch of Legionnaires were stranded on a moon in the Lycidas system in LSH Secret Files 2. All these Legionnaires got their one-page bios, except one. Who was that Legionnaire?
Cosmic Boy?
I was about to go for Command Kid in the last question, before I noticed Ibby had already submitted the right answer.
Not Cos, and not Gim.
Gim was dead at that time.
Gim was dead at that time.
Like that's ever stopped a superhero in today's comics. Oh wait, this happened a long time ago (as publishing counts)...
XS?
No to both.
Brainy WAS one of the Legionnaires stranded, but he got a bio.
Gim was dead at that time.
Like that's ever stopped a superhero in today's comics. Oh wait, this happened a long time ago (as publishing counts)...
Well, it would not have made much sense for a dead superhero to be stranded on a moon...
no to both, though both Sensor and Ferro were in the story and both got bios
all but one of the Legionnaires who got bios share some connection. figuring out this connection can help you guess who the Legionnaire that didn’t get a bio is...
I remember enjoying this story. I think it was the only time I liked Thunder.
So I’ll guess her.
Thunder was great in this story! But she had a bio.
I think this was during the period where it seemed to be contractually mandated that Lori Morning appear in every story and save the day.
I can't remember if she appeared in this one or not, or if she was ever considered a real Legionnaire (certainly not by me anyway!), but just in case...
Lori Morning?
Monstress appeared and had a bio
Lori didn’t appear, and at this point she had been written out to join the Workforce. she was definitely never considered a real Legionnaire!
recap soon...
A bunch of Legionnaires were stranded on a moon in the Lycidas system in LSH Secret Files 2. All these Legionnaires got their one-page bios, except one. Who was that Legionnaire?
Clues:
1) At that time, Leviathan was dead and Lori Morning had joined the Workforce
2) All the Legionnaires who did get bios, except one, share a common connection
These Legionnaires appeared and got bios:
Brainiac 5, Sensor, Ferro, Monstress, Thunder
These Legionnaires/characters were not stranded on the moon at all:
Cosmic Boy, Leviathan, XS, Umbra, Apparition, Lori Morning, Koko (Koko appeared, but sadly he got rejected as his poo-flinging power was not useful enough and could have hurt his teammates!)
How has no one guessed...
Kinetix
yet?
It wasn't her either
Cham wasn’t there
Kid Q was and got a bio
Nope, though I can see why you guessed him. But poor Magno wasn't an active Legionnaire long enough to deserve a bio, I guess.
This character was an active Legionnaire at the time of the story.
Nope, he was stranded and got a bio.

Ayla?
I'm happy that Val was even there. I wasn't sure if he was still on the workforce at that point. But I remembered him later on with Ferro, so...
Ayla?
This was very late in the Reboot, all things considered (Thunder was alreasy there!), and Val had joined the team about half a year, in real time, before she did.
Neither Spark, M'Onel nor Andromeda were stranded on the moon. Andromeda had long since left the team and was a long ways away from rejoining.
nope. Gear had already been introduced but was not a Legionnaire yet
Yes, it was Garth!
Live Wire, Brainiac 5, Sensor, Ferro, Monstress, Kid Quantum II, Karate Kid and Thunder were all stranded on the moon. And Koko, of course. The common thread from Sensor to Thunder was they were all the most recent Legionnaires to join; Sensor joined with Umbra and Magno, but Umbra got HER bio in LSH Secret Files 1, and Magno had since been depowered. So all these newer Legionnaires got bios.
Brainy got a bio because he was a panel hog recently had been "upgraded" in the Anomaly, to get internal forcefield powers and a change in personality (Andromeda was the only other one who went through physical changes as a result of that, and SHE wasn't an active Legionnaire).
Live Wire was KOed early in the story, and they needed him along to light up the distress flare the team sent out to be rescued, explaining his role in the story.
Brainy got a bio because he was a panel hog recently had been "upgraded" in the Anomaly, to get internal forcefield powers and a change in personality .
Assist point to Chaim for starting his guess with the letter G.
Why did the Legion replace Princess Projectra with Prince Projectra?
Was this the test that they had to give Projectra because the computer predicted she would break down during a mission, and Saturn Girl made her think she lost her powers, and the Legionnaires went through an elaborate production to make her think she was in a world where she didn't exist - only her male counterpart Prince Projectur?
Right in one Ibby. ironically, it was Brainy standing in front of a computer, claiming that someone was going to breakdown. I think he was just imagining the whole thing as part of
his breakdown.
This question was a crossover with the recent JLI breakdowns question.
Ironically... or perhaps not
After all, Karate Kid was the one who ordered that Projectra be put through this whole darned thing...
okay, let's ask one or I might forget...
What past-time do Triad, Live Wire, Ferro, Karate Kid, Ultra Boy, Wildfire and Chameleon have in common in the Reboot?
Logical, given all the torn questions... but no, they rely on their snazzy 30th century tech!
no, no and no
Clue: this is something which we can do in the present day, too. of course, the Legionnaires have more advanced tech...
Not bowling!
What past-time do Triad, Live Wire, Ferro, Karate Kid, Ultra Boy, Wildfire and Chameleon have in common in the Reboot?
Not sewing, 20th century culture, coffee fans or anything related to coffee, bowling or magno-ball watching
It is something which we can already do know, though of course the Legionnaires have more advanced technology
Hint: it is something which we could not do fifty years ago, to give you some idea of the level of technology around it
CMK has it! It was playing video games.
Live Wire, Ferro and Karate Kid were playing in LSH 113.
Triad, Live Wire and Ultra Boy were competing against each other in LSH 119.
Wildfire and Chameleon were playing in Legion Lost 6.
Who is the only member of the Taurus Gang to never appear in a comic book (not counting Who's Who) after the initial Taurus Gang story in Adventure Comics # 374?
Nope, Shagrek was seen, however briefly, in the TMK run - issue 8, maybe? - a just-rescued Mysa was watching a video of Blok saving her from Shagrek.
Was Apollo in the Taurus Gang? I’ll guess him.
Mystelor wasn't really bad so I'll guess she went off to find her true self.
hmm I'm sure that two of the others made cameos elsewhere, both in flashbacks. That leaves... Rogarth?
Apollo was in the Devil's Dozen, not the Taurus Gang.
I was thinking of Mystelor, but I'm now blanking on when I thought Rogarth re-appeared. I'm not really prepared to take the time to dig that up, so whichever of you wants to take the next question is welcome to.
I'm giving it to Blacula, as he got the "original" answer.
I knew that Quanto and Black Mace had appeared in flashbacks, somewhat more extensively than Shagrek and his video.
^ urr ... I think you mean Thoth Lad. My guess was way off and I already have a Titans Trivia Thread question to think up!
Oops! Silly me, scrolling without checking who posted. I mean, it's not like Krypto looks like a moose, and...
anywho, we also need to close this thread up soon, I suggest thoth start a new thread when he has his question
but...Snubbed Lad has already sent in his submission to join the LSV! Well, all right then...
That is a moose in TL's pic? I always thought it was a gnarled tree with lightning behind it or something.
I thought so at first. until I looked more closely! I'm pretty sure those are eyes and a nose over there...
Thoth,using his super camouflage powers.
