As I said in the 2015 Tournament threads, I am going to start an Idol this month. I will most likely adopt the rules Invisible Brainiac used in previous games (and I will post them when I find the most recent Idol thread). This game will be a little different than previous ones because:

1) There are a lot of Bat-Villains.
2) There are two or three versions of the most popular Bat-Villain.
3) We need to decide whether or not to include versions in other media ( primarily movies, TV, video games).

My Definitions of Comic Book Ages
The Batman titles are largely untouched by changes in comic book ages. There are subtle changes evident in art styles (such as Sprang for the Silver Age and Neal Adams for the Bronze Age), but unlike Superman there is no definite issue that signifies the end of an era. I will use Batman: The Ultimate Guide to the Dark Knight's definition of the Silver Age starting with Showcase #4, the introduction of Barry Allen.

I notice you have Two Face Goden Age and Two Face Modern but no Two Face Bronze Age (for example). A few other characters such as Poison Ivy and Mr Freeze are also missing versions of their characters that were quite different to the ones listed.

Thanks, I will add them to the list. How many appearances did the Spook and Captain Stingaree have? I'm a little bit hesitant in including characters that have less than two appearances out of fear that this list could be in the thousands.

What is the difference between Bronze Age Two-Face and Modern Two-Face? (I'm being honest here as I'm only 24 years old.)

I think that the main difference with Bronze Age Two-Face is that he had a kid - Duela Dent. This has since been retconned out

The Spook had a few appearances before being dramatically beheaded by Damian Wayne (and I mean 3)

Captain Stingaree has appeared more - largely in the background of large super villain montages

What about people like Cluemaster (who is more famous by being the father of Spoiler)?

Some of the characters - like Dr. Moon and Clock King - were introduced in Batman but become larger elsewhere in the DCU ... I think that's an argument to keeping them off your list

Did that fact make Two-Face's personality or powers significantly different than the previous and most recent versions?

I left Duela off the initial list because she seems to be more of a Teen Titans Villain. If anyone has any objections to that, please let me know.

Duela is totally a Titans villain so I support your judgment

The different eras didn't change Two-Face's powers, but I have to defer to others more expert in Bat stuff.

From me recollection, his personality in the Bronze Age was definitely a major player in terms of supervillainy - would not be out of place against the JLA (whereas I think only Joker could still do that of the majority of Bat Villains)

One thing I remember about Captain Stingaree is he was revealed to be gay and in a relationship with Cavalier. This was off-panel though but it kind of etablishes him as a presence.

There were two bronze age Mad Hatters, Tectch and the imposter. One looked like the Lewis Carol version, and one looked like the Golden age one.

In the Bronze Age, Two-Face was my favourite Bat-villain. In the pre-New 52 era, I found him just sort of ho-hum. But I can't think of what changed about him to make me think that way. His look and personality haven't really changed all that much. Maybe it was just me that changed?

Bronze Age Poison Ivy is totally different to pre-New 52 / Modern Age Poison Ivy though. Same with the Mr Freezes.

It's because they keep writing the same Two-Face stories over and over again. I used to think he was great too, but there's not a lot new done with the character.

Black Spider- Isn't he more of a JSA/Seven Soldiers of Victory Enemy? I recall that he was created Post-Crisis to fill Green Arrow's spot and he betrayed the team. Please correct me if I am wrong or if there are multiple versions of this character?
Calculator- Both versions or just Pre-New 52?
Composite Superman- How many appearances did he have?
The Outsider- How many appearances did he have?

You're thinking of "I Spider", Black Spider was a lethal vigilante type from the 70s and 80s. He was reimagined as Suicide Squsd fodder in the new 52.

The Outsider appeared multiple times in the 60s, and then again years later in an issue of DC Comics Presents.

I updated the list with most of the suggestions above. However, I will need more details as to Bronze Age Poison Ivy and Mister Freeze before I will add them to the system. I hope to start the game by 10/26/2015.

I think you could make a case for Bronze Age & Pre-52 Killer Crocs being significantly different. One was a gangster with a skin condition, the other was much more animalistic and portrayed as a metahuman.

During the Super Powers era (Bronze Age), Freeze was upgraded with his power suit instead of the fish bowl helmet, that also gave him super strength. Later in the Pre-52 Era, his entire backstory and motivation changed to be more in line with the cartoon.

The difference between Ivy versions are that in earlier appearances she's just a crazed botanist, but eventually she actually gains metahuman powers to control plants. But it's hard to tell when that shift actually happens.

Other than looking almost completely different, the modern one is much more highly sexualised, much more powerful, and is much more frequently portrayed as semi-heroic these days (despite the fact that she has killed hundreds of people).

I'm not sure about this, but isn't it the case that Bronze Age portrayals tended to have his split personality solely due to his disfigurement, while more modern portrayals tend to have it that he that he was always struggling with the second personality, but that the disfigurement sent him completely over the edge?

^ I think you're definitely right about that EDE. I don't think that tweak to his background would have affected my impression of Two-Face all that much, but it was a difference.

I'll add Silver Age Poison Ivy to the list because she debutted in 1966 and I consider Silver Age for Batman to end at 1970, which is when Neal Adams started illustrating the title and grittier stories began.

In regards to Mister Freeze, was that portrayal during the Bronze Age only in the TV show or also in the comics?

Dr.Death- Did he appear in Grant Morrison's run?
Owlman- I assume Modern Age version? The Silver Age version was basically a JLA villain.

Dr Death was the first super-villain Batman ever fought and the first villain he fought more than once.

He didn't appear during Grant Morrison's run but you've just reminded me of someone who did:

Lord Death Man

Freeze wore the Super Powers suit for a little while, most notably when the Joker killed him in the second Robin Mini-series(he got better), so it's in continuity.

While Prometheus was designed as an Anti-Batman, I'd still peg him as more of a JLA villain. Unless of course you're trying to lure Sarcasm Kid into the tournament, then by all means add him .

Owlman's a tough one, not only because of all his variations, but because he's mostly in JLA stories, unless you mean the Roy Rayomd one, who wasn't a villain per se.

I had Sterling Silversmith in mind, but had no idea he appeared more than once.

Original flavour Owlman and Prometheus were definitely more JLA villains, though I guess you could say they were Batman villains too since they seemed to go up against him more often than not in those stories (being sort of anti-Batmen).

But I'm fine with leaving them out. I just sort of threw them in there in case they'd popped up in Batman stories since I stopped reading them.

I'll add Bronze Age Miser Freeze and Lord Death Man to the list. If there are any other missing villains, please let me know by next Monday.

Official Bat-Villain Idol Rules

The concept of an Idol game is that players get to vote for their favorite characters, instead of voting for the characters they most want off the list. This is based on overall popularity, and has nothing to do with stats.

Players have to rank their faves. The higher the rank, the more points a character gets. So your rank 1 might get 10 points, but rank 2 only gets 8, and so on.

Arkham Asylum Rules

1) Each round will last about 48 hours. I will try to end each round at the same time, but this won't always be possible because of other circumstances. I will push dates when there is a major holiday coming up.
2) I'll vote at the start of every round to minimize bias on my part.
3) I don't actively encourage editing of votes; it's a smart tactic but may be unfair for those who don't get to log on as often. However, I won't disallow them either. I'll only tally votes at the end of each round (to make it easier on myself!). I'll post on this thread the minute I start tallying to alert everyone; votes that come in after that will be ignored.
4) In case of errors in the results, I'll post a correction immediately. If anyone's vote was affected by the error, that poster will be notified by PM immediately. If the poster cannot correct his/her votes before the end of the round, he/she will get a makeup point next round - a +15 bonus. This only applies to instances where I made the error, and not where the poster made an error.
5) Points will be given based on your ranking. The higher you rank a character on your list, the more points that character will get (e.g. Rank 1 gets 10 points, Rank 2 gets 9 points...) Point distributions will change per round.
6) Exception to the above will be the first 1-2 rounds of the game, which trim the list down considerably. Each vote will count as one point, and characters below a certain point threshold get eliminated.

7) Because several characters have multiple versions,please specify which character you are voting for.

Please define characters by Ages if there is more than one known version.

Guide to the Bat-Ages
Golden Age- Any character created in between 1939 and 1956. 1939 being the year that Batman debuted, and 1956 being the year Barry Allen was introduced to reader. As many of the stories take place before the introduction of censorship in comics, many of the villains were more violent than in later ages.
Silver Age- Any character created in between 1956 and 1970. This era is defined by the influence of the "Batman" TV show which aired in the 1960s. Villains were a bit more relaxed in their antics, and significantly less violent than their Golden Age counterparts. Original villains during this era usually centered around a gimmick, such as Ancient Egypt.
Bronze Age-Any character created in between 1970 and 1996. 1970 was the year artist Neal Adams started illustrating the comic books, and editors encouraged a more realistic approach to Batman stories. Villains became increasingly more threatening and violent as outside censorship, known as the Comics Code, was loosened and finally left off of the comics altogether.
Pre-52 - Any character created in between 1996 and 2010(?). In 1996, Grant Morrison started writing books such as The Flash and Justice League with a more relaxed tone than the Bronze Age. This era ended when DC hard rebooted their entire comic book line in 2010.
Modern- The most current version of the character that has been published. This may overlap with Bronze Age/Pre-52, so only use the above descriptors if there are significant differences between those versions and the Modern one.

This pre-game round is to allow us to finalize the list of characters for the game. For obvious reasons, once we get past the first couple of rounds we can't just add characters to the list smile If you have any characters/realities you want to add, post here. Because the first rounds usually see massive eliminations, I'll be lenient in allowing characters to be added.

The only criterion is the character has to be considered a Bat-Villain. Villains that immigrated from other heroe's pantheons are welcome if they are currently most known as a Bat-Villain. Villains that primarily appeared as antagonists against Batman as his role as a Justice League member are considered Justice League Villains. Besides, we have to save something for future Idols.

Important Remaining Questions

1) Someone suggested Egghead, but I thought he only appeared in the TV Show. Did he appear in the comics? If not, should we include film/tv/video game versions of the characters?

2) I feel like I'm missing some characters from the Bronze Age (ones associated with Ras Al Ghul). Are any significant characters missing? [color:#6600CC][/color]

Some comments/questions re: the list and characters:

* I just Googled Egghead and other than some cameo non-continuity appearances, he seems to have just been a TV show character, so no problems with leaving him off

* I notice you didn't add Henri Ducard. Did you maybe think he was just in Batman Begins? He was a comic book character before that. I've added him to the list but feel free to take him off if there was another reason you didn't add him.

* I've also added Dr. Death who is a separate character from Lord Death Man and an important villain in Batman's history. If there was a reason you didn't want him on there though then feel free to remove him.

* Is there a difference between Bane (Pre-New 52) and Bane (Modern Age)? I haven't bought a Batman comic since Morrison left but Bane seemed like one of the more consistent villains to me.

* I notice Music Meister is on the list. Did he appear anywhere other than that one musical episode of the Batman: Brave and Bold cartoon?

In the Legion, Titans and JLA Idol games, we included toon versions of the characters. Although, I think toon versions of villains will be less developed than heroes.

1) Flamingo (Morrison era villain)- I need to know how many appearances he had. I never heard of him.

2) Lady Shiva, Dr.Tzin-Tzin, Trigger Twins- Will add to the final list tomorrow

3) Calculator- I assume not the most current version, who was more of a General DCU villain. Was the previous version Silver or Bronze Age?

4) Music Meister- I just assumed he was from a Silver Age story. I'll remove him from the final list.

5) Bane- I assume that Bane changed because of the popularity of the last Batman movie. If this is not the case, I will remove the Age listings and one of the duplicates.

On Media Versions: I could include TV/Movie characters and versions, but I have to know if there is significant overlap between these categories:

1) "Batman" 1960s TV Show and "Batman: The Brave and the Bold"- Do most Silver Age versions overlap with their TV counterparts?
2) "Batman" 1990s franchise- Do most Bronze Age versions overlap with the movie's versions?
3) "Batman Begins"- Do most Modern versions overlap with the movie's versions?

Not sure how many appearances Flamingo made after Morrison left (if any) but I think he made at least a couple during his run.

Calculator was very much a Batman villain in the Bronze Age. I think it's only since Identity Crisis that he's been more of a DCU villain.

I'm happy to leave the cartoon/TV show/movie versions out. There have been so many! It would just clog up the list.

I would remove the Bane differential. He really hasn't changed all that significantly (if you don't count his dumbing down a bit) since he was introduced.

Just remembered Quakemaster as well. I think he was a Batman villain.

This list is so awesome. I miss the good old days where the likes of Maxie Zeus or Calendar Man were the big bads

I'm not sure why I didn't vote for him. My tastes skew older school so I think I just skipped over him while I was skipping over most of the other post-Didio characters.

I'm surprised other people didn't vote for him though.

I used to set limits in my Idol games because of the long lists, but Emily may have something else in mind.

I am hoping that between characters with 0 and 1 points total (and 2 points if nessecary) we will be able to eliminate at least 14 characters this round. We got 8 players in the first round, so if we eliminate 14 characters total I think we'll be able to move forward without me having to set limits. Otherwise, I will have to set limits next round.

I got the number 14 by dividing 108/8. I think since there are eight players, having the game last a bit longer would be better.

Hi Emily. I'm a bit confused about the scoring system (beyond the 1 = 10, 10 = 1 thing haha).

You mentioned that we're to give each character a score between 1 and 10, but you've given several characters a score of 0. Are those scores meant to be 10 or is 0 also an option?

I was thinking also that if this is not a forced ranking thing with a finite list (ie pick only 25 out of the available characters) we can reverse scoring such that a 10 is worth 10 points. But that might get confusing if we do shift to finite forced ranking

I had a second where I was going to put in 0s for the ones I didn't vote for last time, but I recalled the 1-10 range.

Happy with the way it for this round, rather than reversing the scores. Who knows what Emily has planned for the next rounds?

There's probably not much difference between a rank of 10 and a rank of 0 (points-wise) anyway, so I'm just going to go ahead and vote.

Hi Emily, the reason for Rank 1 gettin most points etc. Is because in those rounds in my Idol games, the list is finite. That is, pick your Top 25 (out of 50 characters) and rank them in order, so that exactly one character gets 1 point, one gets 2 points, and so on. What has happened in this round in Bat Villain Idol is that we are ranking everyone remaining in the game, and not against each other. It is actually possible to give everyone 10 points in this round.

Hope this clarifies my rules.

I think your rules will give a similar effect except the voting will be a lot less predictable.

Interesting that the most "recent" character in the top ten is Ventriloquist. Grant & Breyfogle created a lot of villains in their run, but Ventriloquist and Scarface are easily the most enduring. I don't see a lot of villains who came after that era who made it.

Next Round will start tomorrow night.

Interesting how tight it is. Firefly and Electrocutioner go from the mid-70's to being eliminated (but only changed their vote by 7 points each). Similarly, Mad Hatter goes from a solid second to mid-tier, with only a few votes swapped out.

We are in the early rounds still, but there have been cases before where fan faves were eliminated early because people thought they would be safe, and did not give them as many points.

I suspect that is not the case here though, as we do not have a finite number of points to give.

The total has been whittled down to 51. I'm going to keep the rankings this way until we have it down to about 20 characters. If we have an odd number of characters that doesn't have 5 in it, I will do a Wild Card Round so that we get even numbers.

Once the list gets that short, I will change the ranking system.

I just read that there was a second Wrath. I was surprised that he made it even a few rounds, but if there were two of them... The one I liked was from the impressively done DC Special from the mid '80s.

The Electrocutioner I know mainly from a Vigilante cover at the back of Who's Who. I did pick up the first couple of issues of Vigilante years later, and was surprised at how poor it was. Not what I was expecting after the build up form Teen Titans.

Tzin-Tzin and Firefly are only Who's Who entries for me. I had to google Ubu.

haha OK. I get the impression from your voting and a couple of things you mentioned earlier that you don't know many Bat-villains beyond the mainstream (boring ) ones, so here's a guide to all of the cool characters you're missing out on:

Black Spider (Eric Needham):

* Batman's first recurring black villain (I think).
* More of a Punisher-like anti-hero rather than a villain since he only went after / killed drug dealers (something to do with avenging a family member who got hooked on drugs or something, it was all very 70s).
* Possessor of a funky costume and star of the awesome covers linked below.
* Fun fact: He was one of the few DC characters that Neil Gaiman used in his classic Sandman run, where he was the love interest of Lyta (Fury) Hall. How many Batman villains can say they dated Wonder Woman's daughter?!

Blockbuster I (Mark Desmond):

* A lot more interesting than his boring businessman-Lex Luthor clone brother.
* One of the Batman villains that appeared most frequently in other comics during the 70s thanks to his membership in the Secret Society of Super-Villains.
* More of a misguided simpleton brute than a true villain.
* Fun fact: Bruce Wayne saved him from drowning when he was a boy so even though he hates the sight of Batman (something to do with being brainwashed by his brother I think), he was sometimes calmed down by Batman taking off his mask to reveal that he was Bruce Wayne underneath. One of the more unorthodox ways that Batman has won a fight!

Catman (Thomas Blake) (Silver Age):

* A lot more fun than the generic pre-New 52 version that Gail Simone turned him into (although I'm sure other people will disagree with me on that).
* A cool combination of Batman and Catwoman who often provided the conflict in their love triangle. What's not to love?
* I love his garish yellow and orange colour scheme and he also starred on some awesome covers.
* Fun fact: Track down the excellent story arc 'Misfits' in Shadow of the Bat if you can. A fun 3 (or 4?) parter in which Catman and a handful of other C-grade villains kidnap Bruce Wayne, Commissioner Gordon and the mayor of Gotham and lock them in a cell, and Batman has to find a way to save the day without revealing his identity. Old school comicing!

Crazy Quilt (unrevealed):

* One of the very few (or maybe even only?) Batman villains who didn't start off as a Batman villain! He first appeared as a foe of the Boy Commandos drawn by Jack Kirby! He went on to menace them a number of times and even had an imposter steal his identity in an issue of Blackhawk before he ever faced Batman.
* The possessor of one of the most garish and amazing costumes in all of comics. And the star of the awesome Gen Colan cover linked below.
* Fun fact: One of the few Batman villains who was actually more of a Robin villain. (The Boy Wonder accidentally blinded him or something.)

Clayface III is in the blue exoskeleton. The guy with webbing is Black Spider. The hooded guy is the Spook. The Cavalier is the guy who's dressed as, ummm, a cavalier.

I'm actually blanking on the guy holding the helmet, but next to him is Killer Moth.

Who is Red Hood (Silver Age)? I thought that was just one of the Joker's many disguises? Or was it a separate character back then?

I consider the Red Hood (Silver Age) to be a significant alternative version of the Joker, as it inspired the Modern Age Version. That's why it made the list. I tried to put as many known versions of the characters as possible on the list.

In retrospect, I regret not placing Elseworlds versions on this list; but that could be an Idol in itself so maybe we will see them another day.

I'm surprised Ra's was out too. Perhaps some folks *really* didn't like him popping up in Legion

I thought he'd be in the top 10. Personally, it wasn't a Batman era I've read much of, and it wasn't hugely referenced when I started picking up comics. They were considered very good stories even then though, and I got the feeling that people were letting enough time go by before bringing him back in.

Black Mask was around when I was reading Batman, and I thought he'd hang around a little longer in Idol.

Despite Joe Chill's importance to the Bat-mythos, he's not exactly a recurring villain in it, outside of very frequent flashbacks to the same scene. What about a story where we see Joe Chill's day? Has that been done?

I think I know Magpie more for her appearance in Legends than anything else.

My remaining memory of KGBeast, was of Batman facing an awkward conclusion, and choosing a path shaped by him being an older crime fighter. There was a moment where he was aged in his role.

Shame to see Super-Alfred in his Outsider guise going too.

A lot of us gave Ra's 9s or 10s last round. Personally I did it because I thought he was overused.

I first saw him in Who's Who, but got at leas tone of his appearances off the back of that not long afterwards. The appearance I recall most for Hagen, is actually the Elseworlds Holy Terror.




One of my very early DC Action Comics was also more of a JLA tale, with the group going up against Brainiac. It was the robot version then. I guess the writers occasionally had the thought that if the threat is planetary, shouldn't the League have some involvement.

The Anti-JLA here was one Morrison was looking at when he came up with his version for the Rock of Ages storyline in his run.

Please Read and Respond

In all seriousness, please suggest ideas for the seemingly inevitable Wild Card Round. We have consistently cut 10 characters in most rounds, which leaves us with 31 characters. If we are at 21 characters at the end of next round, I'm going to do a Wild Card Round to get back to an even 30 and then change the point system the following round. If we get less than 20, but more than 14 then we will make up whatever difference it is to get 15.

The thing I need help in deciding is who to include in the Wild Card Round.

1) All Eliminated Characters
2) All Eliminated After Initial (1 or 0) Rounds
3) Eliminated that made Top 100 or so
4) Eliminated that made Top 50 or so

I'm a bit surprised at the early exits of Harley Quinn and the pre-new 52 Catman too. I did think they would be more popular. However, Modern Age characters have in general done poorly in this Idol.

A tad surprised that Tweedledee and Tweedledum didn't get the same number of points. I always thought they would be a pair.

I like the idea of a Write-in Round for Wild Cards. Characters who never made the initial list can get a chance to join the game.

Of those who have departed...

Calendar Man - I recall more for the distinctive costume (that used be enough to sell a book), but there must have been lots of scope for date based crimes.

Kite-Man - More than the character himself, I recall someone a few years ago saying he could be brought back as a serial killer who takes kite shaped skin grafts form his victims. It was meant as a comment on just how grim comics had got as every villain was a crazed multiple murderer.

Mister Freeze - Wasn't someone who was getting lots of attention when I was reading Batman.

Harley Quinn - I've probably seen her more flipping through Suicide Squad in the shop than in anything Bat-related. There, she's the embodiment of pointless violence with no repercussions or sustainability of belief.

Signalman - Another distinctive guy, who I remember in a Perez drawn JLA story.

Crime Doctor - I always thought he had a bit of down to earth scary potential. Unlike Crazy Quilt who was quite mad.

Spellbinder I - a really distinctive costume that reminds me of Odd Man. His name seemed at odds with a Bat-Book. While I was looking at pages for this Idol, I noticed that he has a pretty cool Batman Beyond costume.

Catman was a bit of a joke character before recent years. I felt a bit sorry for the way he had been written. They certainly revitalised him, even if it was a little clichéd sounding.

As for the Red Hood, I misread the era for this one. The only one I would have voted for would have been the one that appeared in the Animal Story.

I met Harley Quinn in the animated series when I was a little girl. I always like her costume and still remember her adventures with Poison Ivy. I also like her positive attitude, bubbly personality...and it sounds like I'm not talking about a villain, does it? I guess that's part of the reason DC revised her to be at least an Anti-Heroine in the New 52. She's really marketable.

She also reminds me of a friend I had that was in an abusive relationship, so there is that as well. She's really relatable.

As for Wild Cards, there's no one I'm desperate to see back in. So I'm happy to wait for the numbers to see if it's a everyone gets to bring one back or whether it's something broader like points allocation across all eliminations and the top X make it back in.

It's the marketable part of the character I keep bumping into whenever I see her. I'm dimly aware of a more complicated back story, but that's not the part I see. I put her in the Lobo, Deadpool category of characters. Marketable ultra violence. Or distilled Wolverine

As for the wild card round, I'm ok with any system. If the name your own system is feasible, then people would be able to add into the mix people that were overlooked or not considered. But it's about what's simplest for the game.

That's a great way to name it, Thoth. I have a similar reaction to that character oeuvre ... and for me, it's only compelling when I'm in a certain mood.

This voting has been interesting overall, because I find myself voting based on whether I would have picked up a Batman book based on the villain's involvement on the cover. Because of that, I've been scoring high for some of the more visually appealing ones (Cat Man, Anarky, Calendar Man, Kite Man, Crazy Quilt, etc.) and less for the ones that I found boring (Blockbuster, Bane, etc.).

I have no preference for the Wild Card round. I know they're a staple in Idol games but I've never quite seen the point to them since the returning character usually only lasts a couple of rounds before being voted out again.

That said, I do remember one Idol game where the returnee did last quite a while (maybe even getting into the Top 3 or 5?) and that was interesting to see (I can't remember which game it was. Was it the JLA one? Or one of the Titans ones?).

I remember the Signalman from a JLA/JSA team up too. Always thought he was an odd choice for the Bat-villain in that team up, as I never really found him a particularly prominent villain.

Crime Doctor's love and skill for torture certainly made him seem very scary.



It was Titans I believe. Flamebird returned during the Wild Card Round and made it to the Top 3, almost beating Kole for the win.



Some of these villains' looks certainly intrigued me - Spellbinder, Crazy Quilt, Cavalier, Captain Stingaree, The Spook, Nocturna, among others.

As for Harley, I found her a bit bubbly-fun, which can get old through overexposure. Still, I have to say she's quite the successful character (in terms of usage) considering she's relatively new.

The main point of them is because we don't have nice round even numbers; and unless by great luck we get even numbers or a number ending by five in the next round we risk ending up with a Top 3 Instead of a Top 2 at the end of the game. It's just easier for me to calculate.

As Blacula mentioned though, the Wild Card was a huge upset in Titans Idol. Flamebird returned and managed to make it all the way to the final round, placing within the Top 3. So you never know...

I'd have voted for Flamebird Retroactive votes don't count?! It's posted in the wrong Idol thread?! Bah!

1) We get even numbers or number ending with five, therefore no need for Wild Card round at this time.

2) We don't get even numbers or a number ending with five, in which case we do a Wild Card Round. It will probably be a Write-In Round. If we need more characters than posters present, I will use a random number generator to fill in the missing spots. If there are more posters than characters needed, it will be up for a general vote to decide who qualifies for the Wild Card Round.

The bloodbath continues! Am I correct that Catwoman is the only one to have two versions remaining?

Interesting to see Nocturna hanging in there. Who knew she made such an impression on early Jason Todd fans? Who knew she'd outlast Harley?

She, Croc and Ventiloquist are the last of the 80's created villains that I can see. Meaning the rest are at least 30+ years old.

Some interesting ones going this round.

Blockbuster I - The foe who could easily outmuscle Bats, forcing him to rely on his wits.
Hugo Strange - The man who knew Bats identity, tearing away the Wayne/Batman masks.

Clayface I (Karlo) - I thought his Who's Who entry was very dated looking. But he's appealed more as I've got older. His is a story of revenge and horror in the style of classic horror movies.

Clayface is the man of a thousand faces like a twisted Lon Chaney. It links him thematically with the Joker who was visually Conrad Veidt as The Man Who Laughed. I've wondered if the Hugo in Hugo Strange was after Victor Hugo who wrote the novel. Then there's the Jeckyll & Hyde inspiration for Harvey Dent, which had been filmed numerous times.

Tweedledee and Tweedledum have a different literary origin, but certainly continue to emphasise the threads of insanity that underpin the best of Gotham's criminals.

I thought Mister Freeze would have been more popular. There was a time when he seemed to be a big Bat-Villain. He didn't really appear in many comics I had, and didn't impress when he did. Besides I was reading about Captian Cold and Killer Frost and there was the Cryogenic Man over in Outsiders so it's not as though there was a shortage of similar characters. Icicle from the JLA/JSA crossover ...

I recall the art on Maxie Zeus both in Who's Who and the Outsiders more than the character himself. I quite liked the New Olympians at the time and they were something different. Visually quite distinctive. Was that Willingham?

Killer Moth's villainous costume, with others, attacked the JLA and that's where I know him best from. He was an anti batman at one point, saving crooks from the authorities. That was probably when he was at his best, rather than just another costumed villain.

I know the Cluemaster mainly from his appearances in Justice League. He was actually the most interesting of the group. But why have Clues when you have Riddles I guess.

As for Nocturna, I was happily surprised that she made it past the earliest rounds, so I've been giving my support. More on why later on I hope.
