Stealing Lance's idea over in the Spaceopoly forum, I thought I'd put a Comic Book twist on it (Mods, feel free to move to Spaceopoly, is necessary).
Any Annual, from any book, any company. One question at a time.
I'm thinking of an Annual...
Was it published by DC?
(As a mod on this forum, I think it may be appropriate for Gym'll's. Other opinions?)
Yes, it was published by DC.

Is it an annual for a super-team?
Is it a Pre-Crisis annual?
Not a Super-Team.
Occurs after Crisis on Infinite Earths.
I was going to start a thread with this title, but put it in the Anywhere Machine.
I'm thinking of an annual... it's usually red, with five petals, and very attractive to both bees and hummingbirds...Ah, well. This is what happens when you don't seize the day.
Is it an Annual for someone with super-powers?
Is it an Annual for a character who was around before Crisis?
The Lead character does not have Super Powers and was around before Crisis
Is the lead character Batman?
Is it a Detective Comics Annual?
No, it is not Detective Comics
Is it Batman Annual #23 JLApe?
Was it before Batman Annual #10?
Is it part of a company wide theme/crossover?
Is it before Batman Annual 20?
Is it Batman Annual #15 the Last Batman Story?
Is it this one?
Nope.
So to recap, it's a Batman Annual between 10 and 20 (excluding 14 & 15) and it isn't part of an event or crossover.
Is it this one?
Is it:
Lard Lad is correct! "Mortal Clay" by Alan Moore is still one of my favourite Clayface stories and I'm always disappointed this version of Clayface doesn't get used much.
Lard Lad's question.
Ha! That was actually the first Batman Annual I thought of, but I second-guessed myself!
'Bout to go to work. I'll pick one tonight...

Absotively posilutely! A terrific example of how to use the annual format if you ask me! Having missed the Wolfman/Perez train, I only read this and the rest of "The Judas Contract" in trade format a decade or so ago.

No, sir!
To recap:
I'm thinking of an annual that was NOT published by DC Comics or Marvel Comics. It features a character or characters in a costume. While it was published within the last 25 years, it wasn't published in the 80s nor was it published within the past 10 years.

Well, I honestly can't tell if there are any of these on the cover, but is it:
No, sir! Extra hint: you were closer with the Gen13 Bootleg Annual than you have been with any other.
Be it:
It be! I was a sucker for Gen13 back in its heyday, my interest waning around the time this annual came out actually.
Your go, Lardy!
Awright...thinking of an annual, here.

Yer up, Dave!
I'm thinking of an Annual....
Yes, it was published by DC.
Was it under a separate imprint? (like Impact!, Vertigo, Wildstorm, etc.)
No, this was straight up DC fare.
does that character have its own cartoon version (in JLU, Legion, Super Friends, etc)?
No, not a team book.
Yes a character has a cartoon analogue.
Was the character on Super Friends?
Yes the character was on Super Friends
How about an Aquaman annual?
The character is not Batman.
The Title is not "Superman", "Robin" or "Aquaman".
Would it be an Action Comics annual then?
is it a Wonder Woman annual?
Is it a Hawkman Annual or one featuring Hawkman?
No, no and no.
So to recap:
It is a DC Annual (not an imprint) that is not a team book.
It features a character that was on the Super Friends cartoon. That character was not Hawkman or Batman (and neither appear in the book).
The title of the Annual is not "Superman", "Robin", "Action Comics", "Aquaman", "Wonder Woman" or "Hawkman"
Is it a Green Lantern Annual?
Not a "Green Lantern" Annual
Is it a "Power of the Atom" annual?
Is it a "Superman: The Man of Steel" annual?
Is Superman the annual's star?
Is it an "Adventures of Superman" Annual?
Was the annual published in the 90s?
is it a DC Comics Presents Annual?
It is a "DC Comics Presents" Annual (which means that it wasn't in the 90's and wasn't "Adventures of Superman").

Sounds like a pretty cool issue! Have never read it myself.

yeah DCCP Annual #1 was awesome loved reading that...I collect all the DCCP. Now Deadman will be the one to gueststarring in that new DCU.

DCCP was a HUGE gateway comic into the DCU for me, giving me Superman and a new or unfamiliar hero every month. Also, loved when they had the "Whatever happened to..." backups, with the Crimson Avenger one being a stand-out. Actually, forgot that DCCP had annuals!
Wonder who wrote and drew it? Gonna have to track that one down some day....

Uncanny X-Men + Fantastic Four Annual 1998 (whew) was actually a really fun little story. It was self-contained, however was part of Marvel's mandate for the annuals that year to be team-ups. The story itself is a lot of fun, with a Ben vs Logan run poker match, Sam and Johnny as unwilling seat fillers, and Beast and Cecilia Reyes bumping into Reed and Sue at the opera just in time to fight Psycho Man, I believe.

The reunion story was technically the third story. The first was Brainy working on Timber Wolf's fatal condition and the second, oft-forgotten story was the lead-in for Timber Wolf's mini series in the 20th century.

It IS an X-Men annual, specifically an Uncanny X-Men annual (may as well help things along since it's been awhile).
To prevent the thread from dying completely, I'll go ahead and give the answer as well as award the next annual to Lard Lad for his guesses.

Okay, I'm thinking of an annual...

Okay, so we never got down to the nitty-gritty before this thread died. Maybe we can try again?
To summarize: I'm thinking of a DC annual that was not published prior to 1990 for a solo male character who has super-powers . It was not a Superboy Annual, and the character was never an official Justice Leaguer to my knowledge.

The answer, unfortunately, is no.

Thanks to you guys (especially Kent) for answering my not-so-subtle call for a revival here, so I could finish what I started! Yer up, Kent, should you choose to continue on.....
I love Ennis, too, but never read his Demon, or this annual.

The annual is for a solo character.
It was pre-Crisis.

He is correct... Swamp Thing Annual 2 it is! Possibly the best Hell story in comics.
If someone objects to Dev's win, speak your mind and let's sort this out before we move ahead.

Hmmm....don't remember this one, though I almost certainly bought it when I was a kid unless i missed it. It was about "Luke's father"? Lucasfilm must've had a laugh with that one!
From the CBDB - This issue features a flashback to events during the clone wars, to a time when Luke Skywalker's father and Obi-Wan Kenobi were on the planet Skye and saved it from a terrible disaster.
I think Vader shows up in the 'present' day though. Oh yeah, it was written by Claremont as well.
So it shows Luke's father? Did he look like Hayden Christianson?

Yer next, 'Boot!
Well, as I do not follow much of Marvel nowadays, I really have no idea how many Annuals they have produced lately...thus trying to narrow it. Good work on that one though.

So there are NO females on the cover?
There are no identifiable females on the cover. There are figures of a sort whose gender is ambiguous.

Was it a 'themed' annual, a la Legends of Dead Earth, Pulp Heroes, etc?
Was it a Titans or Teen Titans annual?

addendum, to make my methodology of answers more consistent.
Early on, the 'mystical genre' question was asked, and I limited my response to the annual only. In later answers, I also noted if the regular series would have a different answer.
For the sake of continuity with other answers, I will note that while the annual was not mystical, the regular series attached to the annual could be so classified, depending on the storyline.
Hint (because this is dragging on): whereas the rest of the annuals attached to this series were tied into the series' regular continuity, this annual was not.
okay, it has been more than a month with no takers.
It was Swamp Thing Annual #1, which was an adaptation of the movie.
Whoever wants to pose a new Annual, go ahead.
