Well it looks like another old Kirby character is getting revived for a one-shot: THE BLACK RIDER! Steve Englehart & Marshall Rogers (fresh from DARK DETECTIVE) are doing it.

I got a big laugh out of Steve describing BR as a "twisted" individual, because of the way, in the Jack Kirby origin story, he "trained his horse to have a secret identity (!) _before_ he decided he himself needed one (!!)."

I'm looking forward to this!

So this would be the Atlas western character as opposed to the New God?

Would his horse be named..... SATAN?

Any updates yet on Englehart's JLA Classified story arc?

I'm assuming Prof's getting his info from this article at Comicon's THE PULSE.

It mentions the JL:C arc and a follow-up JSA:Classified, but that they also haven't been scheduled to print yet. Derenick and Farmer are on the art.

Thanks, Pov.

I had forgotten Englehart was doing arcs for both JLA: C and JSA: C. Double the pleasure...yay. laugh

Farmer should do a good job of covering up Derenick's deficiencies. I wish Farmer had inked Derenick on the current, soon-to-finish JLA arc.

No, I'm on Steve's e-mail list! I've only heard about THE BLACK RIDER, DARK DETECTIVE III (as he calls it) and the COYOTE reprints.

What's funny (or maybe not) is Steve specifically asked NOT to have his E-MAIL quoted word-for-word, but discussed in fans' own words. He said it was a personal e-mail, not a press release. But the person who posted that at THE PULSE quoted him verbatim... except for the part about not quoting him verbatim.

Sheesh!

Well, you know what they say when one assumes. lol Sorry 'bout that. wink Looks like Jen C belongs to the same mailing list, or has connections that are.

Man, it's impressive the reception the Dark Detective stories are getting.

And it sounds like Black Rider is going to be part of a Western-themed event?! I can't wait to hear the other books and creative teams! Yeehaw!

Wasn't Garth Ennis said to be working on a Western Ghost Rider story as well?

Put me down as also intrigued by a Western event.

Joey Q confirmed the upcoming Marvel Western event and gave a rundown of the creative teams in his Joe Fridays column at Newsarama:

Quote
ITEM! TWO-GUN KID
by Dan Slott and Eduardo Barretto with a special 8-page bonus story by Keith Giffen and Mike Allred of a very obscure Marvel Western character. Cover by Eric Powell!

ITEM! KID COLT & THE ARIZONA GIRL
written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray with art by Federica Manfredi and Palmiotti. Plus we introduce a new character, “The Philadelphia Philly” by Jim McCann and Dave Williams. Cover by Eric Powell!

ITEM! WESTERN LEGENDS featuring “Red Wolf”
by the team that brought you Amazing Fantasy’s “Vegas” - Karl Kesel and Carmine Di Giandomenico; “The Man From Fort Rango” by Fred Van Lente and Homs; and the bizarre speed gunner, “The Man Called Hurricane” by Jeff Parker and Tomm Coker. Cover by Eric Powell!

ITEM! STRANGE WESTERNS STARRING THE BLACK RIDER
by the legendary creative team of Steve Englehart and Marshall Rogers with a short story featuring “Gunhawk” by Joe Lansdale and Rafa Garres. Cover by Marshall Rogers and Eric Powell!
BouncingBoy Woo!

I'll be getting all of these. The Slott/Barretto 2-Gun Kid sounds awesome, and Palmiotti and Gray are fabulous on JONAH HEX... This is gonna RAWK!

What? No Rawhide Kid?

I wonder if all this means they're retconning away the Blaze of Glory mini. Fine by me if they do.

You know what I thought was funny? There was some "controversy" when the last RAWHIDE KID mini-series was announced-- the one with the gorgeous JOHN SEVERIN art. Something else else to do with it being a MAX book and having (supposedly) "adult" content. HAH!!!

But it seems to me, NOBODY said a word about the 2 PREVIOUS minis featuring Rawhide Kid-- which were horrifically violent in the extreme!! Between the overall look, feel, tone, etc., BOTH of those definitely must have taken place in some "alternate" continuity. Whereas the Severin mini, far as I could tell, brought back the "classic" version. (Sort of! heehee)
