BILL MANTLO: A LIFE IN COMICS Tribute - 05/18/06 11:19 PM
Bill Mantlo was a prolific writer for Marvel in the late 70's/80's giving us ROM, MICRONAUTS (a testament to his skill that he wrote such wellcrafted works based on a couple of toy lines!), a run on the HULK that PAD credits as laying the groundwork for much of his subsequent run, ably following up John Byrne's early ALPHA FLIGHT work.
In 1992, Mr. Mantlo was struck by a hit-and-run driver head-on while rollerblading and suffered a traumatic brain injury from which he's never recovered.
BILL MANTLO: A LIFE IN COMICS is being published as a 64 page collection with in-depth looks at the breadth of Mr. Mantlo's career and commentary and interviews from many of his illustrious collaborators. All proceeds will be sent to his legal guardian (his brother, Michael Mantlo) to aid in costs of his ongoing care. No price or release date has been announced.
