Didn't know I was up. I'll go and look.
I think the band you are trying to remember was called the Dictators.
The Cure (next entry in the alphabet)
Ice House (anyone remember them?)
Mighty Mighty Bostones (the)
Scott Ilove Icehouse and Nine Inch Nails
Outkast
Rush
(Just as a side note, each of these bands I've listed on my turn are ones on my MP3 list. Right now I have about 24 hours of MP3's to listen to at work.)
Tenacious D (Jack Black ROCKS!)
Zombies
(LL, re: Tenacious D. Another reason to buy Styx's latest LP is that they put in a jokey appearance at the end.)
Ace of Base

i would never dare put others musical tastes in their place, however i do believe Barenaked Ladies and Wilson Philips are anything but rock. Now here in Nova Scotia they play BNL on the rock station, however they play anything that fits into the canadian content rules, they suck. i mean no offense if any is taken.
CONTRABAND
ps
ace of base isnt rock either, no offense.
I was kind of wondering about my choices due to the title "ROCK-N-Roll" but I don't consider ABBA (the very first post) to really be rock either and there's been several others that are certainly not rock, so I didn't think we were sticking strictly to rock. To me, Barenaked Ladies would be more akin to rock than ABBA would be.
i missed that, and youre right, ABBA????
MOMMA MIA
HERE I GO AGAIN
WHY WHY
DID I EVER LET YOU GO
Lots of hits, not rock though, everyone should think of it this way, if any rock band could get into the RnR hall of fame, would abba be there?

Deep Purple (who I think everyone will agree are rock).

Okay I couldn't get out to get it last weekend so now I'm on my way to Amazon. That just clinched the purchase. Thanks HWW!
[edit note]
Just purchased Cyclorama, Planet Project P's first album (self-titled) and Red Ranger Came Calling all for about $28 and free shipping. Gotta love Amazon!
Yay! I finally got the E! Guess who its gonna be.
EVANESCENCE!!!
Harajuku (which is not rock)

FLOCK OF SEAGULLS IS NOT ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!
CONTRABAND
Hmm. You used Contraband on the 'C' before last and I just noticed I repeated Oingo Boingo which Caleb originally gave as an 'O' answer. Maybe next round we ought to mix it up a bit. Move the letter to the second position or something. Just an idea.
Dio
i did??

That's your opinion, Labby. To me, "I Ran" stands up with any novelty-kitschy rock of the early '80s. Frank Maudsley's guitar solo alone is worth the price of admission.
Next entry:
Hot Chocolate (and yes, they were FUNK-rock!)
Yes]
its just my opinion, and by no means am i saying that your tastes in music suck or are wrong. I'm just saying that in the category of rock FLOCK OF SEAGULLS is about as far off the mark as JUSTINE TIMBERLAKE was out of place at SARSfest in toronto, all rock bands and him, what doesnt belong, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
next
IRON MAIDEN
KD LANG
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Rock music is a broad category that can include anything from Chicago to Megadeth. How does one draw the line?
BTW, Kansas was one of my previous answers, so maybe you'd better stick with kd lang.
Next:
Lindisfarne

P.S. kd lang is one of the most amazing female vocalists living, and she was in punk rock in NYC until 3 separate people gave her Patsy Cline records on like her 26'th birthday. She took it as a sign.
Going by LL's suggestion (and unless anyone has any objections), I'm going to start this round by going with the SECOND letter in the name:
Caravan.
Next entry has to have "b" as the second letter, and so forth.
You know, what's funny, now that I think about it, is that Genesis would have worked too.
YOU WANT THE BEST?!!
YOU GOT THE BEST!!!!!!
KISS
<opening riff to DETROIT ROCK CITY>
DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince
(Yes, Labby, they aren't rock
, but at least it's a "j"!)
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
i refuse to contribute to a rock n roll alphabet if any band can be here
its not MUSIC alphabet soup, its rock n roll
you want to have a rap soup, start a thread, you want a pop music alphabet soup. START A THREAD, dont destroy this one.
just my opinion.
Well its not rap but you probably won't consider this answer to be rock either. But I couldn't come up with another one with 'q' for the second letter.
Squeeze
there are a lot of bands that i dont think are rock but thats just me, then there are bands that no one in their right mind would consider rock. No offense
eminem is not rock, not now not ever
HSAS
Quicksilver Messenger Service
Byrds. (Duh! Can't believe it took me five minutes!)

A short musical interlude:
Sleep all day, out all night
I know where you're goin'
I don't think that's actin' right
You don't think it's showin'
Jumpin' up, fallin' down
Don't misunderstand me
You don't think that I know your plan
What you try'n'-a hand me?
Out all night, sleep all day
I know what you're doin'
If you're gonna act that way
I think there's trouble brewin'
We now return you to your regularly scheduled game.
Sick of It All
The Quarrymen (who, of course, became The Beatles)
Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine
Eurythmics
Suggestion for the next round. Why don't we change up to rock song titles?
Where's Captain Kirk? Don't know but it's one of my favourite 70's punk song's by...SpiZz Energi.
Don't mind changing to songs now LL, but have to go to the comic shop! Have a good weekend.

You ever seen or heard the Celtic bit at the end in English? Here it is:
Aye an' a bit of Mackeral settler rack and ruin
ran it doon by the haim, 'ma place
well I slapped me and I slapped it doon in the side
and I cried, cried, cried.
The fear a fallen down taken never back the raize and then Craig Marion,
get out wi' ye Claymore out mi pocket a' ran doon, doon the middin stain
picking the fiery horde that was fallen around ma feet.
Never he cried, never shall it ye get me alive
ye rotten hound of the burnie crew. Well I snatched fer the blade O my
Claymore cut and thrust and I fell doon before him round his feet.
Aye! A roar he cried frae the bottom of his heart that I would nay fall
but as dead, dead as 'a can be by his feet; de ya ken?
...and the wind cried Mary.

ACHILLES LAST STAND
It was an April morning
When they told us we should go
An' as I turn to you, you smiled at me
How could they say no
Whoa, the fun to have
To live the dreams we always had
Whoa, the songs to sing
When we at last return again
Swept New York a glancing kiss
To those who claim they know
To know the shrieks the seaman hears
The devil is in his home
Oh, to sail away
To sandy lands and other days
Oh, to touch the dream
That hides inside and is never seen, yeah
Into the sun, the south the north
Flys the birds of gold
The shackles of commitments fell
In pieces on the ground
Oh, to ride the wind
To tread the air above the din
Whoa, to laugh aloud
Dancing as we fought the crowd, yeah
To seek the man whose pointing hand
The giant step unfolds
With guidance from the curving path
That churns up into stone
If one bell should ring
In celebration for a king
So fast the heart should beat
As proud the head with heavy feet, yeah
(Guitar Solo)
Days went by when you and I
Made an eternal summers glow
As far away and distant
Our mutual time to grow
Oh the sweet refrain
Soothes the soul and calms the pain
Oh Albion remains Sleeping now to rise again
Wandering upon the rings
What place to rest the search
With the mighty arms of Atlas
Hold the heavens from the earth
The mighty arms of Atlas
Hold the heavens from the earth
From the earth
Whoaaaaaaaaaaa
I know the way, know the way, know the way, know the way
I know the way, know the way, know the way, know the way
Ohhhhh, ohhhhh
Ahhhh, ahhhhh, ahhhhh, ahhhhh
Ahhhh, ahhhhh, ahhhhh, ahhhhh
Ahhhh, ahhhhh, ahhhhh, ahhhhh
Ahhhh, ahhhhh, ahhhhh, ahhhhh
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, ohhhhhhhhhhhhh
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, ohhhhhhhhhhhhh
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, ohhhhhhhhhhhhh
Oh the mighty arms of Atlas
Hold the heavens from the earth
Ahhhh, ahhhhh, ahhhhh, ahhhhh
