That would make me a little nervous but I imagine someone just put some poisen up on a roof to clear the birds away.
Who counts dead birds? If the newspaper is off by one, do they have to print a retraction the next day?

Dead birds in Austin. New York City beset by foul-smelling gas odor. Sounds like 2007 is off to a great start.
