okay which one was your favourite ???

or was it one of the others:

Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, Colbys etc ...

Matthew.
mine was "DALLAS" !!

i saw it from around the time of the "who shot JR" episode, right up until the end !!

i remember when the "cliff-hanger" were a TOTAL surprise !! and when the series finished we had to WAIT the 3 months or so to see what happened when it returned !!

there was no way of knowing and the stories were never leaked out !!

i MISS that kind of surprise with things now .... we always know in advance !!

Matthew.
some of my favourite "cliff-hangers" ...

the fire at Southfork

Bobby and Jenna's wedding

Bobby being run over

Bobby returning

My mom was totally into those shows when I was a kid and I wasn't about to leave a room that had a tv on no matter what, so I ended watching most of those nighttime soaps. I'd say that I enjoyed "Dallas" more than Dynasty -- from what I remember, the stories seemed less outlandish and it wasn't about a "catfight of the week" the way Dynasty was (although those were amusing too -- especially when Heather Locklear was involved). It kinda jumped the shark after that shower scene though (talk about a reboot).

Honestly never saw more than a couple minutes of either show.

Although I watched both, I think I preferred Dynasty. Part of it might have been that they more younger characters (Fallon, Jeff, Sammy Jo, etc). I stopped watching Dallas around the time Victoria Principal left, but Dynasty I stayed with until the end. I even watched the spinoff, the Colbys (although mainly for Emma Samms and Stephanie Beachum... two actresses that I adored in the 80s).

I did watch all the rest, although mostly for very shallow reasons. Falcon Crest I primarily watched because I had the hots for Billy Moses, although I loved Jane Wyman's Angela Channing. Knots Landing I mainly watched for the younger characters, some of whom I found tasty. Like I said, I wasn't looking for deep storylines there wink

I didn't watch it much, but I grew up in a strict "Dallas" household. It was part of that classic Friday night lineup for a long time.

I think my Dad's only unrealized dream in life was to replace the actor that played Jock Ewing!

Dallas.

And I knew who shot JR (Kristen!) in advance because of the National Enquirer.

I would have said DALLAS straight away, but I have recently caught a couple of all-nite DYNASTY marathons on the Soap Network, and they were GREAT campy fun! Everyone was just so cuntly and amusing!!

A tie between Knot's Landing and Dynasty...

I think I'm leaning more towards Dynasty although I probably saw about the same number of each show while they were on. And the only reason I ever watched Falcon Crest was because of David Selby. Anyone remember what other soap he was on about 15 to 20 years before Falcon Crest?

Agreed that it's a great word, but he's misused it. The adjective "cunty" would have been appropriate, rather than the adverb "cuntly".

Oh, and I came from a "Dallas" household. Never watched any of the others. I remember being so disappointed by the "it was all a dream" season, when all the plotlines from that season were just completely abandoned.

i remember the two bombs going off in that last episode, JAMIE getting into her car [ BANG !!! ] and Sue Ellen getting out of the lift in the offices of "Ewing Oil" [ BANG !!! ]

at the time i thought the DREAM ending was kinda cool !!! IMO of course ....

For me, it would be Knot's Landing. I watched it during the entire 4,000 years it was aired. I still remember When Valene recovered her kidnapped twins. *sniff* I also remember when Gary Ewing got caught cheating on Val and jumped out of bed wearing only his bikini briefs. *boing* Even the later years were good, with that parade of bitchy female characters played by Nicolette Sheridan, Lar Park Lincoln and Kathleen Noone, among others.

*sigh* My world would not be complete unless I knew that somewhere in the universe, Valene is still out there, still being victimized. On the other hand, my world is also scarred from the lingering images I have as a result of seeing what Joan Van Ark's plastic surgeon has done to her.

OMIGOD! Isn't she just a mess? I saw her on something about a year ago, and she scared the hell outta me!

I certainly hope she sued. I can't imagine that was the look she was going for.

Exactly! That poor woman scares the viewers of all of the parades she hosts!

This was especially brought home to me recently when I caught "Frogs" on cable. This is a 70's "horror" movie about killer frogs in Louisiana, where everybody talks in a fake southern accent, all of the males have vigorously hairy chests, and many lingering shots of motionless, ribbiting toads are meant to scare you. Anyway, Joan Van Ark had a lead role in this film, and she looked great in all of her yellow terry-cloth short-pant jumpers. Not freakish at all! If this movie were cast today, she could only play one of the menacing toads.

Down south, "cuntly" IS an adjective, city boy!

The only one of those shows I ever watched more than a few minutes of was Dallas -- mostly because I was fond of the guilty-pleasurish theme song and the opening montage filmed by helicopter over Dallas...
