My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard
Damn right
It's better than yours
Damn right
It's better than yours
I could teach you
But I'd have to charge

--Kelis, Milkshake
You don't need money
with a face like that
do ya?

--Jet, Are You Gonna Be My Girl
shut up shut up
just shut up shut up

shut up- black eyed peas
I'm not a f****** slut you f****** c*** sucker
You're mom's the one letting everyone f*** her

Avenue D - Do I Look Like A Slut?
F**K IT ALL AND F**KING NO REGRETS

Perfect by nature
icons of self indulgence
just what we all need
more lies about a world that

Never was and never will be
have you no shame don't you see me
you know you've got everybody fooled

Everybody's Fool - Evanescence
In another life I'll see you
As an angel flying high
The hands of time have freed you
You have cast your chains aside
And the dawn will come and kiss away every tear thats ever fallen from your eyes....
I don't believe in you
Or what you say and do
I will not sign this deal
I do not care how you feel

Don't want eternity
Don't want this ecstacy
Don't want to care for you
So please set me free

--Mysterious Art, The Omen
Like a soul without a mind
In a body without a heart
I'm missing every part

--Massive Attack, Unfinished Sympathy
I won't say I'm the baddest or portray that role,
but I'm of the top two and my father's getting old.

-Big Daddy Kane

There's a big lizard in my backyard.
I can't afford to feed it anymore.

-The Dead Milkmen (Although it could be someone else... It's been too long.)
"You talk too much,
I can't believe the things that you say,
every day,
You talk too much.."

George Thurgood (although i really don't like him all that much, he is kinda irritating to me.)

This one is the way i remember it, not, most likely, how it actually is...

"In the cool of the evening when everything is gettin' kinda groov vey...
I call you up and ask if you would like to go with me and see a mov vey...
First you say "No, i've got some plans for the night
but then you stop, and say "All Right"
Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you..." Wish i could remember the rest from memory.

I also have to break out my old ELO albums. Good stuff in there as well.
Hmmm, now that song is in my head and also has me thinking of "long cool woman in a black dress". Guess this is my night for the old "gothic" style classics.
I'm getting that Swing feelin':

In the afterlife
You could be headed for the serious strife
Now you make the scene all day
But tomorrow there'll be Hell to pay
People listen attentively
I mean about future calamity
I used to think the idea was obsolete
Until I heard the old man stamping his feet.

This is a place where eternally
Fire is applied to the body
Teeth are extruded and bones are ground
Then baked into cakes which are passed around.

Beauty, talent, fame, money, refinement
Top skill and brain
But all the things you try to hide
Will be revealed on the other side.

Now the D and the A and the M
and the N and the A
And the T and the I-O-N
Lose your face, lose your name
Then get fitted for a suit of flame

I didn't care for them all that much then, and while they may be from Columbia, i still don't, lol. I have very wierd tastes in music given my background.
I asked her her name

If I close my eyes
I can see where you live
Climb the winding stairs
Up to your apartment
The scent of you preparing

As you make love
I cannot lift a hand
Lift a hand to stop him

Because, complications, will give rise to new sets of rules

If there ever was a reason to stop this group from doing more albums, this is it. I just don't get today's popular music.
It’s got more hooks than a tackle box , it’s got really loud guitars
It’s got a blasting cap in the fertilizer, got the secret anguish of the network stars
It’s anti-fur, it’s unplugged, it’s got an OK from the Pope
Got art nails and a Wonderbra, and dread lock blunt rolled Buddha dope
Got the head nod, the finger pistol, the nose up in your crack
Montel, and Geraldo, and the women who hate the men that hate them back

Convoy... (blaap blaap) Convoy!

(To be sung in the voice of Homer Simpson with belching accompanyment.)
DEAREST

As I stand here all alone,
shoulders shudder in my cold.
Hid my bruises, hid my secrets
in my heart for too long.
Well, I’m standing on my own.
Your house never was my home.
That was yesterday,
and memories don’t fade away.

There’s a picture on the wall,
Father’s arms around his daughter.
She pleads, “Father, Daddy, when will you be a man?”
Be a man. A man.

When you kicked me down the stairs,
to my haven underground.
Said I wasn’t worth
the dirt under your fingernails.
When you said you wanted more,
then you labeled me a whore.
And these days forget,
but nothing mutes the wound inside!

There’s a picture on the wall,
Father’s arms around his daughter.
Her eyes brim with tears,
but smile to hide the hate inside her heart.
There’s a picture on the wall,
Daddy’s arms around his Princess.
She pleads, “Daddy, go away!”
Away, away.
Dearest, Daddy’s gone away.
Take me away!

There’s a picture on the floor,
broken glass shards in my toes.
My blood stains the carpet,
my bloodstain’s a memory.
There’s a picture on the floor,
broken glass rings through my soul,
Dad, these scars won’t fade away!

I swear this song was written about me:

I'm having trouble trying to sleep
I'm counting sheep but running out
As time ticks by
And still I try
No rest for crosstops in my mind

On my own... here we go

My eyes feel like they're gonna bleed
Dried up and bulging out my skull
My mouth is dry
My face is numb
Fucked up and spun out in my room

On my own... here we go

My mind is set on overdrive
The clock is laughing in my face
A crooked spine
My sense dulled
Passed the point of delerium

On my own... here we go

My eyes feel like they're gonna bleed
Dried up and bulging out my skull
My mouth is dry
My face is numb
Fucked up and spun out in my room

On my own... here we go

Brainstew - Greenday
From the band "OneTrueThing" - I love this song:

Change

An old farmhouse stands alone, garage tacked to its side.
Old man inside keeps telling me he wants to die.
Says, “I don’t got much these days...just some photos and a clock, reminding me how fast the time is passing by.”
Well I don’t even know your name.
Don’t even know your name, but I wanted to tell you things change.
A young girl cries in my ear, her heart tries not to break.
She holds her own, but indecision makes her shake.
She’s got so much left to give, all her thoughts and all her dreams, reminding me how fast the time is passing by.
Well I don’t even know your name.
Don’t even know your name, but I wanted to tell you things change.
Things change
DIscussions of Gail's first issue over on the LEGION board reminded me of the song VERDI CRIES from the 10,000 Maniacs cd IN MY TRIBE, which I hadn't listened to in years. I'm glad I was reminded, that is one GREAT cd!!

And I want to say
Want to say, "What's the matter here?"
But I don't dare say
"What's the matter here?"

-- WHAT'S THE MATTER HERE

You've put in about half a day
While here I lie
With a shiver in my bones
Just thinking about the weather

-- ABOUT THE WEATHER

The man in 119 takes his tea all alone
Mornings we all rise
To wireless Verdi cries
I'm hearing opera through the door

-- VERDI CRIES
This is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite groups - Blue Rodeo from Canada. This song is sort of soft country rock and the lead singer has a voice that'll just melt your socks.

Artist: Blue Rodeo
Song: Bad Timing
Album: Just Like A Vacation

Hey it's me what a big surprise
Calling you up from a restaurant round the bend
Just got in from way up North
I'm achin' and tired now and I could use a friend

I might be a fool
To think that you do
wanna see me again...

I know it's been awhile since i talk to you
nothing wrong, just nothing ever goes as planned
many times i thought i'd call
but didn't have your number in my hand

I know it's true
that you'd never do
the same thing to me...

I never meant to make you cry
and though I know i shouldn't call
it just reminds us of the cost
of everything we've lost
bad timing that's all
And maybe soon there'll come a day
when no more tears will fall
we each forgive a little bit
and we both look back on it
it's just bad timing that's all

we used to have so many plans
something always seemed to turn out wrong
never could catch up to you
moving on and doing all you've done

I don't know why
The harder I try
the harder it comes

I never meant to make you cry
and though I know i shouldn't call
it just reminds us of the cost
of everything we've lost
bad timing that's all
And maybe soon there'll come a day
when no more tears will fall
we each forgive a little bit
and we both look back on it
it's just bad timing that's all

we each forgive a little bit
and we both look back on it
it's just bad timing that's all
I know you're not a bad girl, honey
No matter what the neighbours say!
It's just you wear those skin-tight dresses
With your G-string tuned to 'A'

*whaps side of head* Song.. is stuck..

Sweet, sweet, child of the street

*whaps head and more lyrics fall out*

Kitten's got claws
She'll tear your heart out
Kitten's got claws
She'll scratch your back...
I keep hearing this one on the radio, and they won't say what it is or who it's buy:

I don't like your fashion business, mister
I don't like that pill that makes you thin
I don't like what happened to my sister
First -- we'll take Manhattan
Then we'll take Berlin!

Here's one I *can* identify:
"The Messenger", Tea Party

Got a letter from a messenger
I read it when it came
It said that you were wounded
You were bound and chained
You were lovéd, you were handled
You were poisoned, you were pained
Oh no, oh no
You were naked, you were shamed

You could almost touch Heaven
Right there in front of you
Liberty just slipped away on us
Now there's so much work to do
But the door that closes tightly
Is the door that can swing wide
Oh no, oh no
Not expecting to collide

For a minute I let my guard down
Not afraid to be found out
Completely forgot, dear,
What our fears were all about
Oh no, oh no
There's no need to be without

If there's a chance, I will take it
This desire I can't kill, no
Here's my heart, please don't break it
I will crawl to your foothill
I am frightened but I'm coming
Please, baby, please lay still
Oh no, oh no, I'm not coming for the kill
Oh no, I'm not coming for the kill
Oh no, I'm not coming for the kill
Life
What a sweet fuckin’ drug
Come-on-come-on-come-on-
Complete my world - yeah
Come and make me numb

Listen everybody -

Life - Baby
What a sweet sweet drug - Baby
Complete my world - Daddy
Come and make me numb

It's by Leonard Cohen. I believe it's called "First We'll Take Manhattan". Your station may be playing the version R.E.M. did for a tribute album a few years back, or maybe someone else covered it recently.
So I went fishing
And I got a note which read:

"Dear Dope,

If you want to catch us,
You need a rod and a line.

Here's Push, by a nice Canadian band named Moist.

Flannel Lass knows why I'm posting this one ... *evils*

i could never give enough have enough be enough
you could never stand to stay there
only only only
fade away fade away

push just a little too late
is this what you want what you need
is this what you wanted me to be
[push just a little too late]
always loved me strapped to you
lock it down and drive me through
oh

[push just a little too late]
just a little too late
[push just a little too late]
i wanted more than this
[push just a little too late]
i wanted more than this
[push just a little too late]
i expected more than this
[push just a little too late]
more than this
more than this
[push just a little too late]
more than this
more than this
[push just a little too late]
more than this
more than this
[push just a little too late]
more than this
Read my mind, Tai. I'm thinking more along the lines of Leave It Alone by Moist

i'd walk the water to get back to you
and where i was complete
we found you scattered by the highwayside
too soon to be released
gathered the pieces up and clean the places
where you were undone
and washed the wreckage out
unfinished all the thoughts that we'd begun

i came to burn the sky
and tear away the beauty that it sows
if i could rape the day
and find the things i thought i'd always known

leave it alone again tonight
leave it alone again tonight
leave it alone again tonight

i laid your arms out long untwisted there
and shaped what i could find
unmade the most of it then left the rest
the parts unrecognized
my reconstruction was the only way
for one last look at you
i lost the sense of it
the absolution that we never knew

leave it alone again tonight
leave it alone again tonight
and it takes me back from this place here
it takes me back from this place here

i came to burn the sky
and tear away the beauty that it sows
if i could rape the day
and find the things i thought i'd always known

leave it alone again tonight
leave it alone again tonight
leave it alone again tonight
leave it alone again
and it takes me back from this place here
from this place here it takes me over
it might be lost in this place here
in this place here it takes me on
tonight leave it alone
tonight leave it alone
tonight leave it alone
tonight leave it alone
And here's another Moist one, which really.. it sheds light, perhaps on Dick's state of mind now that Donna is dead

believe me
touched by god
touched by you
you know i never asked you to
believe in me
it's all i can do
things you never said

and wanting you to reach out from the dark
to wake up from the cold
and wanting you is all i can do
things you never said

believe me
did we ever try
believe me
keep it all to yourself
believe me
i really wanted to die

i'll take the note
the words that say i'm weak
that show i should have died
crumpled in the fire
i'll take the note
it's all i can do
things you never said

believe me
could you ever try
believe me
just keep it all to yourself

so i'm burning up your pictures
lay you in this shallow grave
so i'm washing clean your body
for the promises i never made
i'm burning up our pictures
still my love remains the same

believe me
keep it all to yourself
oh believe me
i really wanted to die

so i'm burning up your pictures
lay you in this shallow grave
so i'm washing clean your body
for the promises i never made
i'm burning up our pictures
still my love remains the same
oh remains the same
oh no remains the same
oh remains the same
remains the same

Flannel Lass ...

Great minds?

Perhaps why Nightwing is letting Tarantula do -- what she has been doing ...

And now, to keep from hijacking this thread, more Moist. David Usher, at least ...

This is Black Black Heart

[dôme épais le jasmin]
[dôme épais le jasmin]

something ugly this way comes
through my fingers sliding inside
all these blessings all these burns
i'm godless underneath your cover
search for pleasure search for pain
in this world now i am undying
i unfurl my flag my nation helpless

black black heart
why would you offer more
why would you make it easier on me to satisfy
i'm on fire
i'm rotting to the core
i'm eating all your kings and queens
all your sex and your diamonds

[dôme épais le jasmin
à la rose s'assemble]

as i begin to lose my grip
of these realities you're sending
taste your mind and taste your sex
i'm naked underneath your cover covers lie
and we will blend and borrow with the coming sign
the tide will take the sea will rise
time will rape

black black heart
why would you offer more
why would you make it easier on me to satisfy
i'm on fire
i'm rotting to the core
i'm eating all your kings and queens
all your sex and your diamonds

[dôme épais le jasmin]
[dôme épais le jasmin]

black black heart
why would you offer more
why would you make it easier on me to satisfy
i'm on fire
i'm rotting to the core
i'm eating all your kings and queens
all your sex and your diamonds

all your sex and your diamonds
all your sex and your diamonds
all your sex and your diamonds
all your sex and your diamonds
And now, to break up the run of Moist/David Usher, here's a little snippet Twisted Sister which put me in mind of the upcoming new run by Waid on Legion... laugh

The kids are back
The kids are back
Oh, watch out
The kids are back

Well, can you blame us
For living our dreams
Just look around,
And you'll see why
We don't wanna follow
That same routine
Maybe it's for nothing,
But we gotta try

So just remember that
The kids are back...

Dreamer That's my friggin' anthem! Dreamer
I used to be sad.
I used to be shy.
The funniest thing,
The saddest part,
Is I never knew why.

Kicking myself for nothing,
Was my favorite sport.
I had to get up, get out, get started,
Cuz life's too short.

There's a new girl in town,
And I'm feeling good!
Got a song, got a smile,
For the neighborhood.

There's a fresh, freckled face,
On her own two feet.
And, this girl's here to stay,
With some luck and love,
Life's gonna be...

So sweet!

-- Linda Lavin, theme song from Alice and my personal pick-me-up tune *hee hee*
I backed my car into a cop car the other day
Well he just drove off sometimes life's ok
I ran my mouth off a bit too much oh what can i say
Well you just laughed it off it was all ok

And we'll all float on ok
And we'll all float on ok
And we'll all float on ok
And we'll all float on any way well

Well, a fake Jamaican took every last dime with a scam
It was worth it just to learn from sleight-of-hand
Bad news comes don't you worry even when it lands
Good news will work its way to all them plans
We both got fired on the exactly the same day
Well we'll float on good news is on the way

And we'll all float on ok
And we'll all float on ok
And we'll all float on ok
And we'll all float on alright
Already we'll all float on
Now don't worry we'll all float on
Alright already we'll all float on
Alright don't worry we'll all float on

And we'll all float on alright
Already we'll all float on
Aliright don't worry even if things end up a bit to heavy
we'll all float on alright
Already we'll all float on
Alright already we'll all float on
Ok don't worry we'll all float on
Even if things get heavy we'll all float on
Alright already we'll all float on
Don't you worry we'll all float on
All float on

My favorite song right now. Kinda like a 00's version of "Don't Worry, Be Happy", just not quite as annoying. laugh
I know, it's not the right time of year, but hey.. "post it if you feel it"!

I don't know if you believe in Christmas
Or if you have presents underneath the Christmas tree
But if you believe in love
That will be more than enough
For you to come and celebrate with me

I have held the precious gift that love brings
Even though I never saw a Christmas star
I know that there is a light
I have felt it burn inside
And I have seen it shining from a far

Christmas is the time to come together
A time to put all differences aside
And I reach out my hand
To the family of man
To share the joy I feel at Christmas time

For the truth that binds us all together
I would like to say a simple prayer
That at this special time
You will have true peace of mind
And love to last throughout the coming year

And if you believe in love
That will be more than enough
For peace to last throughout the coming year
And peace on earth will last throughout the year
Recent talk of Edgar Allen Poe inspired this one:

"When She Comes"

Slow motion in the quiet of the room;
so potent is the smell of her perfume
that you think she's eternal,
that you think she is everything...
but no-one knows what she is.
Repentance for all you should have said;
her entrance seems to raise you from the dead
and you think she's really with you,
and you think that she'll always stay,
always ready to forgive you,
always ready to grant you her mercy
- but in her own way.
When she comes, she'll be a stranger;
struck dumb, you'll try to protest
as the drum beats out the danger...
too late, you should have noticed
that the lady with the skin so white,
like something out of Blake or Burne-Jones
always blocked out the light
and shadowed all you owned.

Still you think she's forever,
yesterday and tomorrow...
but no-one knows where she is.
Still you swear that you can win her
and your prayer is that she'll want you;
aware, once a saint, now you're a sinner
and your sins are going to haunt you
when the lady with her skin so white
like something out of Edgar Allen Poe
holds your hand so very tight
and you hope that she'll never let go.

Easy targets, easy crosswords, easy life:
these key margins leave you balanced on the knife,
bleeding darkly In the end it all comes down
to sleazy bargains.
That hidden key-you tried so hard to find it,
all you can conceive is the effort to be worthy.
Even now you need tobe reminded
that La Belle Dame is without mercy.
The lady with her skin so white
- you never did quite catch her name -
now she holds you in the night
and she'll never let go again,
she'll never let go again.
I put this song up for trivia on the Rock 'n' Roll Trivia Thread, and I was shocked by how long it took to get an answer, so I am posting it here because it's a good song that I love. The video of this song features aged versions of Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash, etc. showing up for Superman's funeral. Just imagine a few Legionnaires in there for completeness.

Superman's Song - Crash Test Dummies

Tarzan wasn't a ladies' man
He'd just come along and scoop 'em up under his arm
Like that, quick as a cat in the jungle
But Clark Kent, now there was a real gent
He would not be caught sittin' around in no
Junglescape, dumb as an ape doing nothing

Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see
Another man like him

Hey Bob, Supe had a straight job
Even though he could have smashed through any bank
In the United States, he had the strength, but he would not
Folks said his family were all dead
Their planet crumbled but Superman, he forced himself
To carry on, forget Krypton, and keep going

Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see
Another man like him

Tarzan was king of the jungle and Lord over all the apes
But he could hardly string together four words: "I Tarzan, You Jane."

Sometimes when Supe was stopping crimes
I'll bet that he was tempted to just quit and turn his back
On man, join Tarzan in the forest
But he stayed in the city, and kept on changing clothes
In dirty old phonebooths till his work was through
And nothing to do but go on home

Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see
Another man like him
(x2)

Superboy
This has been going through mt head lately:

Hit me hard!
Hit me right between the eyes
I wanna see the stars
Hit me, hit me
Well hit me hard!

- The Sounds
"I know I didn't say I was comin down,
I know you didn't know I was here in town,
But bay-yay-yaby you can tell me if anyone can,
Baby, can you dig your man?
He's a righteous man,
Tell me baby, can you dig your man?"

Not exactly from a 'real' song, although one was supposedly recorded. Can anyone guess what it is from?
FL, I love that song by the Crash Test Dummies. It is on my playlist at work and I hear it about every other day. I must have been asleep at the wheel and not watching when you posted it to the trivia game.

And I was not aware of a video for the song. If I recall correctly the song itself was only released as a 'B' side here. I had heard at one time it was only ever released in Canada. Now I have to find the video.
Well, I am Canadian, so I've seen it on our Canadian music video channel, Much Music. If you have satellite, you might get Much (and Much More, and Much Vibe, and Much Rap - I was shocked to see how many channels they have on satellite) and you might see it if the music trends go back that way. You might also catch the videos for "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead" and "God Shuffled His Feet", which look, to me, like they're supposed to all match. *shrugs*

Curiously, "Swimming In Your Ocean" got way more radio play on local stations than "Superman's Song".

OR, if you have no satellite, but do have video and sound capability on your computer, check out the videos on http://www.crashtestdummies.net/
Thanks for the link FL! Gotta watch some videos now. laugh
Well that sucks. None of their videos work. frown Probably the connection I have at work is blocking them. I'll have to try them from home.
In the meantime here are some new lyrics, from Mark Collie's In Time.

I can hear what you're thinkin'
All your doubts and fears
And if you look in my eyes in time you'll find,
The reason I'm here

And in time all things shall pass away
In time you may come back someday.
Live once more
Or die once more
But in time your time will be no more

You know your days are numbered
Count 'em one by one
Like notches in the handle of an outlaw's gun
You can outrun the devil if you try
But you will never outrun the hands of time

In time there'll surely come a day
In time all things shall pass away
In time you may come back some say
Live once more
Or die once more
But in time your time will be no more

I can hear what you're thinkin'
I can't wait to figure out what's wrong with me
so I can say that's the way I used to be

My favorite lyric of the last few months. John Mayer, of all people.
I can be a nightmare of the grandest kind
I can withhold like it's going out of style
I have the bravest heart that you've ever seen
And you've never met anyone who's as positive as I am sometimes

You see everything, you see every part
You see all my light and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can't relate
And you're still here

I blame everyone else, not my own partaking
My passive-aggressiveness can be devastating
I'm the most gorgeous woman that you've ever known
And you've never met anyone who's as everything as I am sometimes

You see everything, you see every part
You see all my light and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can't relate
And you're still here

What I resist, persists, and speaks louder than I know
What I resist, you love, no matter how low or high I go

You see everything, you see every part
You see all my light and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can't relate
And you're still here

And you're still here
And you're still here...

"Everything" by Alanis Morissette. It's my song obsession for the day as I'm in one of those 're-thinking my life' type of days at the minute. Yeesh.
I used to love this song - back in the 60's. It's so bitter. I still love it.

Where Do You Go To My Lovely
Peter Sarstedt

You talk like Marlene Dietrich
And you dance like Zizi Jean-Maire.
Your clothes are all made by Balmain
And there's diamonds and pearls in your hair.
Yes there are
You live in a fancy apartment
Off the Boulevard St. Michel
Where you keep your Rolling Stones records
And a friend of Sasha Distel.
Yes you do

But where do you go to my lovely,
When you're alone in your bed.
Tell me the thoughts that surround you,
I want to look inside your head.
Yes I Do

I've seen all your qualifications
That you got from the Sorbonne
And the painting you stole from Picasso
Your loveliness goes on and on.
Yes it does,
When you go on your summer vacation,
You go to Juan-les-Pins
With your carefully designed topless swimsuit
You get an even suntan
On your back and on your legs.

And when the snow falls you're found in St. Moritz
With the others of the jet set.
And you sip your Napoleon brandy,
but you never get your lips wet.
No you don't

But where do you go to my lovely,
When you're alone in your bed.
Won't you tell me the thoughts that surround you,
I want to look inside your head.
Yes I Do

Your name it is heard in high places
You know the Agha Khan.
He sent you a race horse for Christmas
and you keep it just for fun,
for a laugh, aha aha.
They say that when you get married,
It will be to a millionaire.
But they don't realize where you came from
And I wonder if they really care,
Or give a damn.

Where do you go to my lovely,
When you're alone in your bed.
Tell me the thoughts that surround you,
I want to look inside your head.
Yes I Do

Ah, remember the back streets of Naples,
Two children begging in rags
Both touched with a burning ambition
To shake off their lowly-born tags,
So they try.
So look into my face Marie-Claire
And remember just who you are.
Then go and forget me forever
But I know you still bear the
Scar deep inside, yes, you do.

Ah, I know where you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed.
I know the thoughts that surround you,
'Cause I can look inside your head.

I listed this on the "current favorite songs" thread awhile ago. I just love the message of someone being totally accepting of another person. Actually, not just accepting of it, but loving it because the dark stuff forms a person as much as the light does.
"My Woman Drank Up All My Silverale"

I got off work in the space-mine,
Came home 'bout a quarter past nine,
And I thought there was somethin' funny,
I got no answer when I called for my honey.

So I opened up the space-fridge,
And soon I was about to hemorrhage,
Cause in the fridge there was nothing to drink,
Just an empty bottle in the kitchen sink

Oh, my woman drank up all my Silverale
And she ran off with the space-milkman
I shoulda known better than to trust her
When she couldn't even use a space duster

Oh, my woman drank up all my Silverale
And she ran off with the space-milkman,
I think I could put up with their ilk,
But I don't even have no milk
Hmmm, is this a Springsteen song??
For all you who love a good old-fashioned Love song........................

-Gonna tell you a story that you won't believe
But I fell in love last Friday evenin'
With a girl I saw on a bar-room TV screen
-Well I was just gettin' ready to get my hat
When she caught my eye and I put it back
And I ordered myself a couple o'more shots & beer

CHORUS>
The night (you know) that I fell in love with
A Roller Derby Queen------ round & round
oh round & round
The meanest hunk o'woman
That anybody ever seen-- Down in the Arena...

-She were 5 foot six & two-fifteen
A bleach blonde mama
With a streak of mean
She knew how to knuckle
And she knew how to scuffle & fight!
-And the Roller Derby program said
That she was built like a Fridg-er-ator w/a head
Her fans call her "Tuffy"
But all her buddies call her "Spike"
<Repeat Chorus>

-Well I could not help it
But to fall in love
With this Heavy-Duty Woman I been speakin' of
Things looked kind of bad
Until the day she skated into my life
-Well she might be "Nasty"
She might be "Fat"
But I never met a person
Who would "Tell Her That"
She's my bleach blonde bomber
My Heavy Handed Hackensack Mama!!!
<Repeat Chorus>
Sorry, been listening to (and thoroughly enjoying) my 70s country music tapes...

I feel sorry for
Anyone who isn't me tonight

And if you think I'm bragging
Well, you're right

Your love has sent me flying
And I'm higher than a kite

And I feel sorry for
Anyone who isn't me tonight

ANYONE WHO ISN'T ME TONIGHT-- Kenny Rogers/Dottie West

Love is fair, I have discovered
If touches everyone at some time or another

Love is fair
It makes no difference who you are
Love is fair
It breaks everybody's heart

LOVE IS FAIR-- Barbara Mandrell
*grooves around semi hyperactively in big dangly earrings she made during boring desk duty at work*

I say "Don't you know?"
You say you don't know
I say "Take me out"
I know I won't be leaving here
I know I won't be leaving here
I know I won't be leaving here
With you
OOH! Speaking of country tunes:

The radio's loud and she's rollin' the the battery
Her best girlfriends are piled in the backseat
She's puttin' her lipstick on
'Cause there's a Mustang blowin' his horn

Cadillac Red
Singin' as she passes by
Cadillac Red
See that hillbilly fly
Catch her if you can
She can outrun any man
<chuckle>
Cadillac Red...
Sometimes I feel like a flower in the desert
Blooming alone like a motherless child
So far away in a prison of freedom
The only thing living for hundreds of miles

I gave you all of the love I had in me
Just like a bouquet for your beautiful hand
And you stayed 'til its roots had grown deep as the ocean
Then left it alone in a cold barren land

Now I don't think again
I will find root or reason
To thirst for the water
Or reach for the sky
I wish I was just
A flower in the desert
That never knows the meaning
Of hello or goodbye

I nurtured and tended the love I had in you
But the seeds of destruction were there from the start
Was I born to bloom and waste my sweet fragrance
On the desolate plain of your cold, cold heart?

Now I don't think again
I will find root or reason
To thirst for the water
Or reach for the sky
I wish I was just
A flower in the desert
That never knows the meaning
Of hello or goodbye

I wish I was just
A flower in the desert
That never knows the meaning
Of hello
Or goodbye
I could be mean
I could be angry
You know I could be just like you

I could be fake
I could be stupid
You know I could be just like you

You thought you were standing beside me
You were only in my way
You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you

You thought you were there to guide me
You were only in my way
You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you
You thought you were there to guide me
You were only in my way
You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you

I could be cold
I could be ruthless
You know I could be just like you

I could be weak
I could be senseless
You know I could be just like you

You thought you were standing beside me
You were only in my way
You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you

You thought you were there to guide me
You were only in my way
You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you
You thought you were there to guide me
You were only in my way
You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you

On my own, cause I can't take liven with you
I'm alone, so I won't turn out like you
Want me to

You thought you were standing beside me
You were only in my way
You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you

You thought you were there to guide me
You were only in my way
You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you
You thought you were there to guide me
You were only in my way
You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you

I could be mean
I could be angry
You know I could be just like you

Just Like You - Three Days Grace
Somewhere beyond happiness and sadness
I need to calculate
what creates my own madness
and I'm addicted to your punishment
and you're the master
and I am waiting for disaster

I feel irrational
So confrontational
To tell the truth I am
getting away with murder
it isn't possible
to ever tell the truth
but the reality is I'm getting away with murder
(Getting away, Getting away, Getting away)

I drink my drink and I don't even want to
I think my thoughts when I don't even need to
I never look back cause I don't even want to
and I don't need to
because I'm getting away with murder

I feel irrational
So confrontational
To tell the truth I am
getting away with murder
it isn't possible
to ever tell the truth
but the reality is I'm getting away with murder
(Getting away, Getting away, Getting away)

Getting Away with Murder - Papa Roach
And, if in death, the Lord is kind
You'll be the last thing on my mind

--Do I Love You (Yes in Every Way) - Donna Fargo
Don't tell me its too late
'Cause I've relied on my illusion
to keep me warm at night
and I've denied in my capacity to love
But I am willing to give up this fight

--Dirty Little Secret - Sarah McLachlan

Cast me gently into morning
For the night has been unkind

--Answer, Sarah McLachlan
I want so to believe
And let myself be weak
Like a baby resting in your arms
But I won't let go of my fallen heart
A baby resting in your arms
But I won't let go of my fallen heart
I won't set free my fallen heart
I'll keep with me my fallen heart

Don't hold your breath
'cuz it'll make you blue
the whole opera's not over yet
and I aim to make the fat lady sweat, YEAH!

"Oh, Daddy" - Adrian Belew

Someone to save us,
someone to follow,
someone to shame us,
some brave Apollo,

Someone to rule,
someone like you,
we love you Big Brother,
Big Brother

"Big Brother" - David Bowie
I apologize now if any of they lyrics are offensive to anyone.

Don't want to be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mindfuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Well that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Well that's enough to argue.

Don't want to be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information age of hysteria.
It's going out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Well that's enough to argue.

"American Idiot" - Green Day
Superstar
I tried to educate your childish heart
Made your bed
And I was in it when
your faith was dead

Pardon me?
What are you gonna try to be?
Where are you gonna go without me?

I've been your Mother, Been your Father
Who could ask me for more?

I've been your Sister, I've been your Mistress
Maybe I was your Whore
Who could ask me for more?

Been It -- The Cardigans
First we drank the whiskey
Then we drank the gin
Then we drank tequila
I think that's what did me in

`Boat Train by The Pogues
Ha, I love that song

Had a couple of drinks in town
A few more at the port
Puked up on the gangway
But some kind people helped me board

It's out of order but what the heck.
All 3 lines from No Doubt's FAB-yoo-LUS ROCK STEADY cd...

Last night I was just playing
Let's put it all away and...

Go on and get the lighter
I think we're gonna need some fire
Let's get a little higher
The battlefield is tired
ooooooo God
Go on baby get the lighter
We're gonna start the fire

-- START THE FIRE

Don't Blow It
Even a little bit
'Cause now you're all mine
Don't you forget it

-- DON'T LET ME DOWN

Peek in, sneak about
I'm gonna snoop and call you out
I caught you
Your hands are red
Now I'm a broken-hearted detective

-- DETECTIVE
In the afterlife
You could be headed for the serious strife
Now you make the scene all day
But tomorrow there'll be Hell to pay
People listen attentively
I mean about future calamity
I used to think the idea was obsolete
Until I heard the old man stamping his feet.

This is a place where eternally
Fire is applied to the body
Teeth are extruded and bones are ground
Then baked into cakes which are passed around.

Beauty, talent, fame, money, refinement
Top skill and brain
But all the things you try to hide
Will be revealed on the other side.

Now the D and the A and the M
and the N and the A
And the T and the I-O-N
Lose your face, lose your name
Then get fitted for a suit of flame

'Hell' - Squirrel Nut Zippers
When you dream
What do you dream about?
Do you dream about music or mathematics
or planets to far for the eye

Do you dream about Jesus
Or quantum mechanics
or angels who sing lullabyes?
Let us be lovers, we'll marry our fortunes together
I've got some real estate here in my bag
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies
And rode off to look for America

Cathy I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
Michigan seems like a dream to me know
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've come to look for America

Laughing on the bus, playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said be careful his bowtie is really a camera

Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat
We smoke the last one an hour ago
So I looked at the scenery
She read her magazines
And the moon rose over an open field

Cathy I'm lost I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all come to look for America

All come to look for America

All come to look for America

"America" - Simong & Garfunkel
In the garbage dump,
on a fine December day,
we found a beat-up piece of junk,
an old-time open sleigh.
So then we bought a horse
whose coat was solid gray,
but that's because the horse of course
is older than the sleigh!

I just got the new album from drivin'n'cryin' frontman Kevn Kinney's new project/band, Kevin Kinney's Sun Tangled Angel Revival.

Appropriately enough, this song came blasting from my car CD player on my way home from work tonight:

(think Johnny B. Goode 12-bar blues at breakneck speed) cool

I feel like Marlon Brando, I feel like James Dean
I whiz right by the school-girls, they're all staring at me
There ain't no more excitement, there ain't no bigger thrill
Than a '55 Chevy with a mean-mouth grill

Baby, baby, baby I just want you to know
90 miles an hour in a 30 mile zone, get home

Baby, I just wanna go home
Baby, I just wanna go home
Baby, I just wanna go home
Baby I just wanna go 90 miles an hour in a 30 mile zone
Baby, baby, baby I just wanna get home

Another great tune off the album, laid-back country with some of the prettiest pedal steel guitar I've ever heard-- here's the chorus.

This train don't stop at the millworks anymore
Ever since all those jobs moved to Mexico
If this train stops at all it's so the engineer can rest
This train don't stop at the millworks anymore
Our Lady Peace
Superman's Dead

Do you worry that you're not liked
How long till you break
You're happy cause you smile
But how much can you fake
An ordinary boy an ordinary name
But ordinary's just not good enough today

Alone I'm thinking
Why is superman dead
Is it in my head
We'll just laugh instead
You worry about the weather and
Whether or not you should hate

Are you worried about your faith
Kneel down and obey
You're happy you're in love
You need someone to hate
An ordinary girl an ordinary waist
But ordinary's just not good enough today

Alone I'm thinking
Why is superman dead
Is it in my head
We'll just laugh instead
You worry about the weather and
Whether or not you should hate

Doesn't anybody ever know that the world's a subway...
Holy Moses met the Pharaoh
Yeah, he tried to set him straight
Looked him in the eye
"Let my people go"

Holy Moses on the mountain
High above the golden calf
Went to get the Ten Commandments
Yeah, he's just gonna break them in half!

All you zombies hide your faces
All you people in the street
All you sittin' in high places
The pieces gonna fall on you

No one ever spoke to Noah
They all laughed at him instead
Working on his ark
Working all by himself

Only Noah saw it coming
Forty days and forty nights
Took his sons and daughters with him
Yeah, they were the Israelites

The rain's gonna fall on you

Holy Father, what's the matter
Where have all your children gone
Sitting in the dark
Living all by themselves
You don't have to hide any more

All you zombies show your faces...
...The pieces gonna fall on you

All you zombies show your faces
(I know you're out there)
All you people in the street
(Let's see you)
All you sittin' in high places
It's all gonna fall on you

'All You Zombies' - The Hooters
Marillion, MISPLACED CHILDHOOD

1. Pseudo-Silk Kimono

Huddled in the safety of a pseudo silk kimono
Wearing bracelets of smoke, naked of understanding
Nicotine smears, long, long dried tears, invisible tears
Safe in my own words, learning from my own words
Cruel joke, cruel joke
Huddled in the safety of a pseudo silk kimono
A morning mare rides, in the starless shutters of my eyes
The spirit of a misplaced childhood is rising to speak his mind
To this orphan of heartbreak, disillusioned and scarred
A refugee, refugee.
2. Kayleigh

Do you remember chalk hearts melting on a playground wall
Do you remember dawn escapes from moon washed college hall
s Do you remember the cherry blossom in the market square
Do you remember I thought it was confetti in our hair
By the way didn't I break your heart?
Please excuse me, I never meant to break your heart
So sorry, I never meant to break your heart
But you broke mine
Kayleigh is it too late to say I'm sorry?
And Kayleigh could we get it together again?
I just can't go on pretending that it came to a natural end
Kayleigh, oh I never thought I'd miss you
And Kayleigh I thought that we'd always be friends
We said our love would last forever
So how did it come to this bitter end?

Do you remember barefoot on the lawn with shooting stars
Do you remember loving on the floor in Belsize Park
Do you remember dancing in stilettoes in the snow
Do you remember you never understood I had to go
By the way, didn't I break your heart
Please excuse me, I never meant to break your heart
So sorry, I never meant to break your heart
But you broke mine

Kayleigh I just wanna say I'm sorry
But Kayleigh I'm too scared to pick up the phone
To hear you've found another lover to patch up our broken home
Kayleigh I'm still trying to write that love song
Kayleigh it's more important to me now you're gone
Maybe it will prove that we were right
Or ever prove that I was wrong
3. Lavender

I was walking in the park dreaming of a spark
When I heard the sprinklers whisper
Shimmer in the haze of summer lawns
Then I heard the children singing
They were running through the rainbows
They were singing a song for you
Well it seemed to be a song for you
The one I wanted to write for you, for you
Lavenders blue, dilly dilly, lavenders green
When I am King, dilly dilly, you will be Queen
A penny for your thoughts my dear
A penny for your thoughts my dear
I.O.U. for your love, IOU for your love

Lavenders green, dilly dilly, lavenders blue
When you love me, dilly dilly, I will love you
A penny for your thoughts my dear
A penny for your thoughts my dear
IOU for your love, IOU for your love

For your love
4. Bitter Suite

I. Brief Encounter

A spider wanders aimlessly within the warmth of a shadow
Not the regal creature of border caves
But the poor, misguided, directionless familiar
Of some obscure Scottish poet

The mist crawls from the canal
Like some primordial phantom of romance
To curl, under a cascade of neon pollen
While I sit tied to the phone like an expectant father
Your carnation will rot in a vase.

II. Lost Weekend

A train sleeps in a siding
The driver guzzles another can of lager
To wash away the memories of a Friday night down at the club

She was a wallflower at sixteen
She'll be a wallflower at thirty four
Her mother called her beautiful
Her daddy said, "A whore".

III. Blue Angel

The sky was Bible black in Lyon
When I met the Magdalene
She was paralysed in a streetlight
She refused to give her name

And a ring of violet bruises
They were pinned upon her arm.
Two hundred francs for sanctuary and she led me by the hand
To a room of dancing shadows where all the heartache disappears
And from glowing tongues of candles I heard her whisper in my ear
"'J'entend ton coeur"
I can hear your heart

IV. Misplaced Rendezvous

It's getting late, for scribbling and scratching on the paper
Something else else's gonna give under this pressure
And the cracks are already beginning to show
It's too late
The weekend career girl never boarded the plane
They said this could never happen again
So wrong, so wrong

This time it seems to be another misplaced rendezvous
This time, it's looking like another misplaced rendezvous
With you
The parallel of you, you

V. Windswept Thumb

On the outskirts of nowhere
On the ringroad to somewhere
On the verge of indecision
I'll always take the roundabout way
Waiting on the rain
For I was born with a habit, from a sign
The habit of a windswept thumb
And the sign of the rain
It's started raining
5. Heart of Lothian

I. Wide Boy
Wide boys, wide boys, wide boys, born with hearts of Lothian
Wide boys, we were wide boys, born with hearts of Lothian
Wide boys, we were wide boys, these hearts of Lothian

It's six o'clock in the tower blocks
Stalagmites of culture shock
And the trippers of the light fantastic, bow down, hoe-down
Spray their pheromones on this perfume uniform

And anarchy smiles in the Royal Mile
And they're waiting on the slyboys, flyboys, wideboys
Rooting, tooting cowboys
Lucky little ladies at the watering holes
They'll score the Friday night goals

I was born with a heart of Lothian
I was born with a heart of Lothian
With a heart of Lothian

I was born with a heart of Lothian, with a heart of Lothian.

II. Curtain Call

And the man from the magazine, wants another shot of you all curled up
'Cos you look like an actor in a movie shot.
But you're feeling like a wino in a parking lot
How did I get in here anyway?
Do we really need a playback of the show?
'Cos the wideboys want to head for the watering holes

Let's go

And the man in the mirror has sad eyes
6. Waterhole

When the taxis gather in mock Solemnity
Funeral hearses court the death of virginity
Was it paradise lost or paradise found?
Did we gain respect or were we holding ground?
You had found true love, or so you believed
And the wideboys tattooed your hearts upon their sleeves
So when you think it's time to go
When you think it's time to go
Don't be surprised, the heroes never show

And the patter merchants selling false impressions
Tipping eyes at the waitress with American expressions
Tie angels to the bar with sweet Martini's and their charms
They're lying on every word and every arm
They're turning down their noses to the best lines
And the cheap wines

And the wideboys
They wear their lovebites for their crimes
7. Lords of the Backstage

A love song with no validity
Pretend you never meant that much to me
Numb, a Valium child, bored by meaningless collisions
A lonely stretch of headlight, diamonds trapped in black ice
A mirror cracked among the white lines
I just wanted you to be the first one
I just wanted you to be the first one
Ashes are burning, burning
Ashes are burning, burning

A lifestyle with no simplicities
But I'm not asking for your sympathy
Talk, we never could talk, distanced by all that was between us
A lord of the backstage, a creature of language
I'm so far out and I'm too far in

I just wanted you to be the first one
I just wanted you to be the first one
Bridges are burning, burning
Bridges are burning, burning
8. Blind Curve

I. Vocal Under A Bloodlight

Last night you said I was cold, untouchable
A lonely piece of action from another town
I just want to be free, I'm happy to be lonely
Can't you stay away?
Just leave me alone with my thoughts
Just a runaway, just a runaway
I'm saving myself

II. Passing Strangers

Strung out below a necklace of carnival lights
Cold moan, held on the crest of the night
I'm too tired to fight.

So now we're passing strangers, at single tables
Still trying to get over
Still trying to write love songs for passing strangers
All those passing strangers
And the twinkling lies, all those twinkling lies
Sparkle with the wet ink on the paper

III. Mylo

Oh I remember Toronto when Mylo went down
And we sat and cried on the phone
I never felt so alone
He was the first of our own
Some of us go down in a blaze of obscurity
Some of us go down in a haze of publicity
The price of infamy, the edge of insanity

Another Holiday Inn, another temporary home
And an interviewer threatened me with a microphone
'Talk to me, won't you tell me your stories."

So I talked about conscience and I talked about pain
And he looked out the window and it started to rain
I thought maybe I've already gone crazy
So I reached for a bottle and he reached for the door
And I picked up the sleeping pills crushed on the floor
Inviting me to a casual obscenity.

IV. Perimeter Walk

It would be incredible if we could
Retrace all the times that we lived here
All the collisions
Wasted, I've never been so wasted
I've never been this far out before

Perimeter walk
There's a presence here
I feel could have been ancient,
I could have been mystical

There's a presence
A child, my child
My childhood, a misplaced childhood
Give it back to me, give it back to me
A childhood, that childhood
Oh please give it back to me.

V. Threshold

I saw a war widow in a launderette
Washing the memories from her husband's clothes
She had medals pinned to a threadbare greatcoat
A lump in her throat with cemetery eyes

I see convoys curbcrawling West German Autobahns
Trying to pick up a war
They're going to even the score
Oh... I can't take any more
I see black flags on factories
Soup ladies poised on the lips of the poor
I see children with vacant stares, destined for rape in the alleyways
Does anybody care, I can't take any more!
Should we say goodbye?

I see priests, politicians?
Heroes in black plastic body-bags under nations' flags
I see children pleading with outstretched hands
Drenched in napalm, this is no Vietnam

I can't take any more, should we say goodbye
How can we justify?
They call us civilised!
9. Childhood's End

And it was morning
And I found myself mourning,
For a childhood that I thought had disappeared
I looked out the window
And I saw a magpie in the rainbow, the rain had gone
I'm not alone, I turned to the mirror
I saw you, the child, that once loved
The child before they broke his heart
Our heart, the heart that I believed was lost

Hey you, surprised? More than surprised
To find the answers to the questions
Were always in your own eyes

Do you realise that you give it on back to her?
But that would only be retraced in all the problems that you ever knew
So untrue
For she's got to carry on with her life
And you've got to carry on with yours

So I see it's me, I can do anything
And I'm still the child
'Cos the only thing misplaced was direction
And I found direction
There is no childhood's end
You are my childhood friend, lead me on

Hey you, you've survived. Now you've arrived
To be reborn in the shadow of the magpie

Now you realise, that you've got to get out of here
You've found the leading light of destiny, burning in the ashes of your memory
You want to change the world
You'd resigned yourself to die a broken rebel
But that was looking backward
Now you've found the light

You, the child that once loved
The child before they broke his heart
Our heart, the heart that I believed was lost

So it's me I see, I can do anything.
I'm still the child
'Cos the only thing misplaced was direction
And I found direction
There is no childhood's end
I am your childhood friend, lead me on
10. White Feather

When I hit the streets back in '81
Found a heart in the gutter and a poet's crown
I felt barbed wire kisses and icicle tears
Where have I been for all these years?
I saw political intrigue, political lies
Gonna wipe those smiles of self-satisfaction from their eyes

I will wear your white feather
I will carry your white flag
I will swear I have no nation
But I'm proud to own my heart
I will wear your white feather
I will carry your white flag
I will swear I have no nation
But I'm proud to own my heart
My heart, this is my heart

We don't need no uniforms, we have no disguise
Divided we stand, together we'll rise

We will wear your white feather
We will carry your white flag
We will swear we have no nations
But we're proud to own our hearts
We will wear your white feather
We will carry your white flag
We will swear we have no nations
But we're proud to own our hearts
These are our hearts
These are our hearts
You can't take away our hearts
You can't steal our hearts away
I can't walk away
No more
Something else else in my consciousness
tells me you are here

Now I'm always touched by your presence, dear
Ooooh, Mom
That man, he ripped out his lining
Tore out a peice of his body
To show us his clean, quilted heart

Ooooh Mom
I wonder when I'll be waking
It's just that there's so much to do
And I'm tired of sleeping
Stratford-On-Guy
by Liz Phair

I was flying into Chicago at night
Watching the lake turn the sky into blue-green smoke
The sun was setting to the left of the plane
And the cabin was filled with an unearthly glow
In 27-D I was behind the wing
Watching landscape roll out
Like credits on a screen
The earth looked like it was lit from within
Like a poorly assembled electrical ball as we moved
Out of the farmlands into the grid
The plan of the city was all that you saw
And all of these people sitting totally still
As the ground raced beneath them thirty thousand feet down

It took an hour, maybe a day
But once I really listened, the noise
Just went away

And I was pretending that I was in a Galaxie 500 video
The stewardess came back and checked on my drink
In the last strings of sunlight, a Bridgette Bardot
There's a hat on my headphones
Along with those eyes that you get
When your circumstance is movie size

It took an hour, maybe a day
But once I really listened, the noise
Just went away

It took an hour, maybe a day
But once I really listened, the noise
Just went away
Love plays a friendly card
In a different story
It'll open your heart forever

Love is an endless game
You don't have to worry
It's easy to play
Lately I'm not the only one
I said, "Never trust anyone"

I won't be the one
Who's going to let you down
Maybe you'll get what you want
this time around...
The trick is to keep breathing

Army with harmony
Dave drop a load on 'em
OPP, how can I explain it
I'll take you frame by frame it
To have y'all jumpin' shall we singin' it
O is for Other, P is for People scratchin' temple
The last P...well...that's not that simple
It's sorta like another way to call a cat a kitten
It's five little letters that are missin' here
You get on occassion at the other party
As a game 'n it seems I gotta start to explainin'
Bust it
You ever had a girl and met her on a nice hello
You get her name and number and then you feelin' real mellow
You get home, wait a day, she's what you wanna know about
Then you call up and it's her girlfriend or her cousin's house
It's not a front, F to the R to the O to the N to the T
It's just her boyfriend's at her house (Boy, that's what is scary)
It's OPP, time other people's what you get it
There's no room for relationship there's just room to hit it
How many brothers out there know just what I'm gettin' at
Who thinks it's wrong 'cos I'm splittin' and co-hittin' at
Well if you do, that's OPP and you're not down with it
But if you don't, here's your membership

You down with OPP (Yeah you know me) 3X
Who's down with OPP (Every last homie)
You down with OPP (Yeah you know me) 3X
Who's down with OPP (All the homies)

As for the ladies, OPP means something gifted
The first two letters are the same but the last is something
different
It's the longest, loveliest, lean-- I call it the leanest
It's another five letter word rhymin' with cleanest and meanest
I won't get into that, I'll do it...ah...sorta properly
I say the last P...hmmm...stands for property
Now lady here comes a kiss, blow a kiss back to me, now tell me
exactly
Have you ever known a brother who have another like ah girl or wife
And you just had to stop and just 'cos he look just as nice
You looked at him, he looked at you and you knew right away
That he had someone but he was gonna be yours anyway
You couldn't be seen with him and honestly you didn't care
'Cos in a room behind a door no one but y'all are there
When y'all are finish, y'all can leave and only y'all would know
And then y'all could throw the skeleton bones right in the closet do'
Now don't be shocked 'cos if you're down I want your hands up high
Say OPP (OPP) I like to say with pride
Now when you do it, do it well and make sure that it counts
You're now down with a discount

You down with OPP (Yeah you know me) 3X
Who's down with OPP (Every last lady)
You down with OPP (Yeah you know me) 3X
Who's down with OPP (All the ladies)

This girl ah tried to OPP me
I had a girl and she knew that matter-of-fact my girl was partner's
that
Had a fall out, disagreement, yeah an argument
She tried to do me so we did it in my apartment, bust it
That wasn't the thing it must have been the way she hit the ceiling
'Cos after that she kept on coming back and catchin' feelings
I said, "Let's go my girl is coming so you gotta leave"
She said, "Oh no, I love you Treach" I said, "Now child please"
You gots to leave, come grab your coat, right now you gotta go
I said now look you to the stairs and to the stairwindow
This was a thing, a little thing, you shouldn't have put your heart
'Cos you know I was OPP, hell from the very start
Come on, come on, now let me tell you what it's all about
When you get down, you can't go 'round runnin' off at the mouth
That's rule number one in this OPP establishment
You keep your mouth shut and it won't get back to her or him
Exciting isn't it, a special kinda business
Many of you will catch the same sorta OPP is you with
Him or her for sure is going to admit it
When OPP comes, damn-skippy I'm with it

You down with OPP (Yeah you know me) 3X
Who's down with OPP (This whole party)
You down with OPP (Yeah you know me) 3X
Who's down with OPP (This whole party)
Break it down!
If you wanna see something patriotic there's a stripper
He don't that look that good but he's got an all american smile
That fills his underwear with all the lonely dollars
From all the lonely men who no one ever suffers
Who wait around the bar and spend all their lonely hours
Who're already gone no ones running for cover
The farther they run away the more you have to hide in the dark
White as a worm that crawls through the patriot's heart

It's so red white and blue the way he works the bar
Selling his embraces like Mr. President or a falling star
And he don't care if you're worldly or wise
He's looking for men with sin in their eyes and
He always says the same thing: he says how're you doing baby
I'm your rod and your staff and for a tip you can touch me
And after a few tequilas he becomes something holy
And this crappy little bar with its sweating mirrors and mildewed ceiling
Has more love than even natural selection
And dollar for dollar babe - it's a better bargain
The more you pay the more it can break you all apart
Dollars pour like ashes from the patriot's heart

He knows that your good time will someday kill him
But the thought of getting old does not thrill him
He says give me all your money and don't tell me what your thinking
I'm the past you wasted I'm the future your obliterating
C'mon Grandpa - tell me what you're celebrating
That your heart finally dried up
Or that it finally stopped working and
How you make a dead man come is the undertaker's art
Make 'em shine like the alcohol that preserves the patriot's heart

See him fade with the dawn and a pile of Washingtons
With his head in a spin - happy to pass out again
He would rather fade into the static than hear the violins
That whine like old lovers who whine that they loved him
He would rather laugh alone in the dark with the soft hands of heaven
Because it leaves him alone with his new entertainment system
He does it for the money but he gives more than he's given
He does it for the money but he gives more than he's given
And it's only when he's naked he feels his heart
In the whorehouse desert of the patriot's heart

We all want a patriot's heart
We all want a patriot's heart

"Patriot's Heart" by Mark Eitzel
"It is complete now
Two ends of time are neatly tied
A one way street she's walking to the end of the line.
There she meets the faces she keeps in her heart and mind, they say
Goodbye, tomorrow Wendy you're going to die

Underneath the chilly gray November sky
We can make beleive that Kennedy is still alive
We're shooting for the moon and smiling Jackie's driving by
They say, good try, tomorrow Wendy you're going to die.

I told the priest don't count on any second coming
God got his ass kicked the first time he came down here slumming
He had the balls to come, the gall to die and then forgive us
No, I don't wonder why, I wonder what he thought it would get him.

Hey, hey goodbye, tomorrow Wendy's going to die

Only God says jump, so I said how high
But if he ever saw it it was through these eyes of mine
And if he ever suffered it was me who did his crying.

Hey hey goodbye tomorrow Wendy's going to die."

This is a personal favorite song of mine by Concrete Blonde. The song was written by Andy Priboy and was written about a friends death from AIDS. The music is very haunting and the lyrics send chills up my spine every time I hear it.
My arms bear a payment to liberty
My mind aghast
Smashes the chains of tyranny
Pale and excitable, they flail around
The naked agression we feel
My heart's chemical incendiaries
Correct the past
Walk -- and on water we try
Weak and emotional, insufferable,
Security softens the lie

And as the fog gets clearer
Shadows in our eyes appear
The weak get strong and nearer
And condensation tears are brushed away

-- Julian Cope, "Kolly Kibber's Birthday"
Phantom of the American Mother

Watch this picture blow
It makes you wonder
Bless this broken low
It takes time to explain to you
That underneath your skin is mother dear
And if you paint your face again you'll disappear

How you gonna feel?
If Superman and Sonic Youth are fairy tales
It's time to face the truth
You'll throw your life away
As the woman dressed as Baby Jane

Like a Phantom of the American Mother
It's here again
Like a Phantom of the American Mother

And all that you're concealing
are the things that are good in you
And you do
And you're still abandoning the news
Now there's a sinking look in your eyes
Like black holes in the sky
And every time you moved I realized
That everything in you was hypnotized

How you gonna feel?
If Superman and Sonic Youth are fairy tales
It's time to face the truth
You walk the Hall of Fame
A woman dressed as Baby Jane

Like a Phantom of the American Mother
It's here again
Like a Phantom of the American Mother

So here it is you needed proof
There's no Rock N Roll parade for you
It's time to face the truth

Like a Phantom of the American Mother
It's here again
Like a Phantom of the American Mother

- Catherine Wheel
I am just a poor boy and my storys seldom told
Ive squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises
All lies and jest, still the man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest, hmmmm

...

In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him
til he cried out in his anger and his shame
I am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains
Yes he still remains
Sundown and you better take care
If i find you've been creapin' 'round my backstairs...
Just a dream and the wind to carry me, soon i will be free!!
Don't you get me wrong
Don't you get me wrong
Don't you get me wrong, now
Don't you get me wrong
Don't you get me wrong
Don't you get me wrong
Don't you get me wrong, now
Don't you get me wrong
I kissed a girl and I think I liked it...The taste of her cherry Chapstick.....
And I lift my glass to the awful truth
Which you can't reveal to the ears of youth
'Cept to say it isn't worth a dime

from "Closing Time", by Leonard Cohen
Rosebuds scattered across the lawn like the squares at Waterloo
With bayonets of thorns repelling small children in search of
lost tennis balls
Imaginary cannonballs that were fired at the legs of galloping
cavalry
Resting their dreams in the shade of the apple trees
Toy soldiers drunk on warm lemonade
And the children dream of glory and Fortunes of War
Safe in bed with stories of Fortunes of War, Fortunes of War

As the sun sets low on these playing fields
An army returns bearing swords and shields
Dustbin lids and raspberry canes they'll live to fight another
day
For warriors medals, milk bottle tops
Battle flags fashioned from mother's old table cloths
Bright colours run in the summer rain

Sometimes when they fall they will pretend that their hankie is
a bandage to stop the bleeding
And imagine city streets and desert storms and foreign fields
There's bullets flying, these are the Fortunes of War

I heard a wheelchair whisper across a stale, stagnant gymnasium
Trailing an ivy league jacket like a matador
Through the jitterbug steps of the night before
I followed him down to the church parade
Where he makes his peace every armistice day
I watched him fade away, melt in the autumn rain

For sometimes when they fall they can't pretend
That the hankie is a bandage that can't stop the bleeding
They're out in city streets and desert storms or foreign fields
With bullets flying, these are the Fortunes of War
While their children dream of glory and Fortunes of War
Safe in bed with stories and Fortunes of War
Of uniforms and glory, Fortunes of War, Fortunes of War
Definitely in a Fish mood at the moment:

Listen to me
Just hear me out
If I could have your attention
Just quieten down for a voice in the crowd
I get so confused and I don't understand
I know you feel the same way you've always wanted to say
But you don't get the chance
Just a voice in the crowd

I don't know the score anymore
It's not clear anymore
I can't tell right from wrong anymore
I just don't understand
I was sitting here thinking of exchanging a new world for old
Like changing the channels on TV
Or the dirt that we stand in to gold

When I was young
My father told me just bad guys die
At the time just a little white lie
It was one of the first but it hurt me the most
And the truth stung like tears in my eyes
That even the good guys must die
There's no reasoning no crimes and I never knew why
Even now it still makes me cry

If there's somebody up there, could they throw me down a line
Just a little helping hand, just a little understanding
Just some answers to the questions that surround me now
If there's somebody up there, could they throw me down a line
Just a little guiding light to tell wrong from right
Just some answers to the questions that I'm asking you
I keep a vigil in a wilderness of mirrors
Where nothing here is ever what it seems
You stand so close but you never understand it
For all that we see is not all that it seems, am I blind?

And you sit there and talk revolution
But can you tell me just who's in command?
When you tell me the forces we're fighting
Then I'll join you and gladly make plans
But for now only our t-shirts cry freedom
And our voices are gagged by our greed
Our minds are harnessed by knowledge
By the hill and the will to succeed
And if that's not what you believe
Would you just let me know
I'm not standing alone
That I'm not just a voice in the crowd

If there's somebody up there, could they throw me down a line
Just a little helping hand, just a little understanding
Just some answers to the questions that I'm asking you
If there's somebody up there, just throw me down a line
Just a little guiding light to tell wrong from right
Just some answers to the questions that I'm asking you
I'll keep a vigil in a wilderness of mirrors
Where nothing is exactly how it seems
You're reaching out, you're so close you can touch it
But it all disappears when it's always so near
But one day we will find that we stand in the light
Until then I'll keep a vigil in a wilderness of mirrors
Nothing here is ever what it seems
I'm scared to shout in case I draw attention from the powers
That preside over our minds and our lives
When they find what I want is the deadliest weapon, that istruth

Day by day it's getting louder
And day by day it's getting stronger
But when I can't scream no more and I need reassurance,
I listen to the crowd

And the boy stood and stared at the hill
And the hill - it stared back

"I look around,
my room is filled with candles,
each one a story,
but they end the same..."

Queensryche - The Mission

(song sung from the perspective of a Catholic hitman who lights a candle for each person he kills)
Disposable Heroes by Metallica

Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end
No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend
Running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all
Victim of what said should be
A servant `til I fall

Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Just do as we say
Finished here, Greeting Death
He's yours to take away

Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant
You blindman

Barking of machinegun fire, does nothing to me now
Sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow
More a man, more stripes you wear, glory seeker trends
Bodies fill the fields I see
The slaughter never ends

Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Just do as we say
Finished here, Greeting Death
He's yours to take away

Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant
You blindman

Why, Am I dying?
Kill, have no fear
Lie, live off lying
Hell, Hell is here

I was born for dying

Life planned out before my birth, nothing could I say
Had no chance to see myself, molded day by day
Looking back I realize, nothing have I done
Left to die with only friend
Alone I clench my gun

Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Just do as we say
Finished here, Greeting Death
He's yours to take away

Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant
You blindman

Back to the front.

(possibly my favorite song of all time)
I may be there
Maybe try to comfort me with
My vacant stare
That hangs above your vacant chair

Your eyes are lost in mine
Or are they my eyes lost in yours?
I try to entwine
The wonder that we have there

Oh, no, no, dear
Have you been coming here again?
Listening to me singing
Or is it me singing loud and clear and
I was not without you
Though I tried so hard to be you
No, no, not without you
I'm being very good at being you but
All the times that we shared
I knew that my eyesight was being impaired
I knew something was wrong
And I soon found out it was bad...

And everything I do
Seems to be reflecting you
I try my hand at work
But work seems to be for an earlier person
I'm not too late
Please don't leave me out there
You say you're not too late
To come and hear me singing
All the time
I knew that all the time
I was there singing
I was there singing
But you never knew
All the times I spent being you
To make up for you not being here
All those times that we shared...

Julian Cope, "Me Singing"
Marillion, "Easter"

A ghost of a mist was on the field
The grey and the green together
The noise of a distant farm machine
Out of the first light came
A tattered necklace of hedge end trees
On the southern side of the hill
Betrays where the border runs between
Where Mary Dunoon's boy fell

Easter here again, a time for the blind to see
Easter, surely now can all of your hearts be free

Out of the port of Liverpool
Bound for the North of Ireland
The wash of the spray and horsetail waves
The roll of the sea below

And Easter here again, a time for the blind to see
Easter, surely now can all of your hearts be free

What will you do?
Make a stone of your heart?
Will you set things right?
When you tear them apart?
Will you sleep at night?
With the plough and the stars alight?

What will you do?
With the wire and the gun?
That'll set things right
When it's said and done?
Will you sleep at night?
Is there so much love to hide?

Forgive, Forget
Sing "Never again."
Now everybody wants to prove how hip they are
So they borrow up the wanger and they buy a brand-new car
In the first three days, there's a dent in the trunk
By the time they pay it off, it's a piece of junk
When are they gonna' get smart?
Dodge Dart

I've got a brown '67 sedan, with a big, slant seat
Well, she burns a lot of oil, but she's mighty cheap to feed
She starts up easy when the engine's cold
The cops don't bug me, 'cause they think I'm old
She owns a little piece of my heart
Dodge Dart

Go, Little Dodgie
Go, Little Dodgie
You know, I like your style
Go, Little Dodgie
Go, Little Dodgie
Another 50,000 Miles !

So please don't brag about that brand-new car you own
'Cause I can drive to Argentina for the interest on your loan
She's got four bald tires and a hole in the seat
But with her lifters clickin', she's the Queen of the Street
I'll drive her 'til she falls apart
Dodge Dart

-- Neal Gladstone, "Dodge Dart"
"And I know you're a lonely one
And I know it's a nightmare
To be sounds on the radio
To be stuck in a small town
Where you two are the only ones
We still blame rock & roll!"

-- The Milwaukees, "Rock & Roll #3"

(Any errors are all mine-- I tried to quote it as I listened.)
Lily Allen "The Fear"

I want to be rich and I want lots of money
I don’t care about clever. I don’t care about funny
I want loads of clothes and fu*#loads of diamonds
I heard people die while they’re trying to find them

And I’ll take my clothes off and it will be shameless
‘Cuz everyone knows that’s how you get famous
I’ll look in the sun and I’ll look in the mirror
I’m on the right track. Yeah, I’m on to a winner

I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore
And I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore
And when do you think it will all become clear?
‘Cuz I’m being taken over by the Fear

Life’s about film stars and less about mothers
It’s all about fast cars and cussing each other
But it doesn’t matter ‘cuz I’m packing plastic
And that’s what makes my life so fu*#ing fantastic

And I am a weapon of massive consumption
And it’s not my fault; It’s how I’m programmed to function
I’ll look at the sun and I’ll look in the mirror
I’m on the right track. Yeah, we’re on to a winner

I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore
And I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore
And when do you think it will all become clear?
‘Cuz I’m being taken over by the Fear

Forget about guns and forget ammunition
‘Cuz I’m killing ‘em all on my own little mission
Now, I’m not a saint but I’m not a sinner
And everything’s cool as long as I’m getting thinner

I don’t know what’s right and what’s real anymore
And I don’t know how I’m meant to feel anymore
And when do you think it will all become clear?
‘Cuz I’m being taken over by the Fear
Metric "Sick Muse"

Watch out Cupid
Stuck me with a sickness
Pull your little arrows out
Let me live my life

You better watch out Cupid
Stuck me with a sickness
Pull your little arrows out
Let me live my life
The one I'd better lead
All the blondes are fantasies

And we looked at them eleven ways
You said, "Look at me". And looked away
And you wrote the song I wanna play
I'll write you harmony in C

Everybody just wanna fall in love
Everybody just wanna play the lead

Watch out Cupid
Stuck me with a sickness
Pull your little arrows out
And let me live my life

She said, "I'm with stupid"
Money is a sick muse
Pull your little arrows out
Let me live my life
The one I'd better lead
All the blondes are fantasies

And we looked at them eleven ways
You said, "Look at me". And looked away
And you wrote the song I wanna play
I'll write you in harmony C

Everybody just wanna fall in love
Everybody just wanna play the lead
When I was young, I would swing on a swing
And my cares would go flying so far and away.
The dreams I would dream would come crashing through
And the stars, they would cry for the last Red July.
Slow as the turtles would crawl, the sunset would bleed
And the mountains stood firmly in place.

When I was a child, and the music was blaring
Angels fled, fearing the last Red July
Mmmmm... Red July
Don't wanna' see another...
Not another Red running down my head
Thinking of all those sad, sad things we said
That July...

-- K.J. Denhert, "Red July"
There's a song that I sing
wherever I'm sad
feeling bad.
There's a place in my head
that I go
when I'm feeling low.

I can trust in the melody.
In this song I can find me.
Every since I've lost you I've been so lost too.
In our love there was harmony
and I wanted to see
this love through with you.

This Song is Familiar-Funkadelic
Kevin Gilbert, Goodness Gracious

Goodness gracious, is there nothing left to say?
When the ones that get to keep looking are the ones that look away
It's pabulum for the sleepers in the cult of brighter days

Goodness gracious, at the mercy of the crooks
We're broke and stroking vegetables and there's way too many cooks
In every pot a pink slip, in every mouth a hook

Goodness gracious, i'm not listening anymore
'Cause the spooks are in the white house and they've justified a war
So wake me when they notify we're gonna fight some more

Goodness gracious, not many people care
Concern is getting scarcer, true compassion really rare
I can see it on our faces, i can feel it in the air
Goodness gracious me

Goodness gracious, my generation's lost
They burned down all our bridges before we had a chance to cross
Is it the winter of our discontent or just an early frost?

Goodness gracious, of apathy i sing
The babyboomers had it all and wasted everything
Now recess is almost over and they won't get off the swing

Goodness gracious, we came in at the end
No sex that isn't dangerous, no money left to spend
We're the cleanup crew for parties we were too young to attend
Goodness gracious me

Goodness gracious my grandma used to say
The world's a scary place now, things were different in her day
What horrors will be commonplace when my hair starts to grey?
There's a deep dark hole and it leads to nowhere.
There's a deep dark hole and it leads to nowhere.
Better step aside, best take care
Keep an eye out and beware.
There's a deep dark hole and it leads to nowhere.

It'll spin you around and keep you down
Tie your feet right to the ground.
'Cause it's got no soul, it's a big black hole
It'll mix you up and leave you out cold.

There's a deep dark hole and it leads to nowhere.
There's a deep dark hole and it leads to nowhere...

-- Los Lobos "Deep Dark Hole"
"Now dance, ****er, dance!
Man, he never had a chance!
And no one ever knew
It was really only you"

-- The offspring, "You're Gonna Go Far Kid"
I don't wanna stop, I don't wanna stop!
Come closer dear
That's all you have to do

I'll give you my prime time
I'm saving my prime time for you

"Prime Time"-- The Tubes
Let go of your heart
Let go of your head
And feeeeeeeeeel it now!
la da dee dow dow-- she's homeless!
and I miss you... like the deserts miss the rain...
won't you just tell babydaddy... I'm gonna need his love, why don't he give me his love, why don't he give me...!
Tell me who's that standing over by the record machine
She's looking like a model on the cover of a magazine
She's too cute
To be a minute over seventeen

Meanwhile I was thinking
If its a slow song, we'll omit
If its a rocker, that'll get it
If she's good, she'll admit
Come on Queenie
Lets get with it

Go
Go
Go Little Queenie

"Little Queenie"
Chuck Berry
Headlights shine
Higway fades to black.
It's my last time
sitting in the back
of a long white
Cadillac.

Sometimes I blame it on a woman
the one that made my poor heart bleed.
Sometimes I blame it on the money.
Sometimes I blame it all on me.

Train whistle cries
lost on its own track.
I close my eyes
ain't never coming back
in a long white
Cadillac.

"Long White Cadillac"
Dave Alvin
Gather 'round, People
Come hear the call
You gots to come down to the Judgment Hall
You talk about sin, all about vice
You talk about it, yet forget to see the light

You got nobody to blame
When The Devil come 'n call your name

You got one hand out
The other in your pocket
You got no shame, he wants this soul in his locket
To finally win, you've sunk so low
For a hundred bucks, he gonna' save your soul

You got nobody to blame
When The Devil come 'n call your name

Find me a preachin', political man
Might be somebody, your best friend
To watch your back, a trusted soul
Listen to you howl when you lose control

-- James Solberg, " Nobody To Blame "
I am the only one to blame for this
Somehow it all ends up the same
Soaring on the wings of selfish pride
I flew too high and like Icarus I collide
With a world I try so hard to leave behind
To rid myself of all but love
to give and die

To turn away and not become
Another nail to pierce the skin of one who loves
more deeply than the oceans,
more abundant than the tears
Of a world embracing every heartache

Can I be the one to sacrifice
Or grip the spear and watch the blood and water flow

To love you - take my world apart
To need you - I am on my knees
To love you - take my world apart
To need you - broken on my knees

All said and done I stand alone
Amongst remains of a life I should not own
It takes all I am to believe
In the mercy that covers me

Did you really have to die for me?
All I am for all you are
Because what I need and what I believe are worlds apart

I look beyond the empty cross
forgetting what my life has cost
and wipe away the crimson stains
and dull the nails that still remain
More and more I need you now,
I owe you more each passing hour
the battle between grace and pride
I gave up not so long ago
So steal my heart and take the pain
and wash the feet and cleanse my pride
take the selfish, take the weak,
and all the things I cannot hide
take the beauty, take my tears
the sin-soaked heart and make it yours
take my world all apart
take it now, take it now
and serve the ones that I despise
speak the words I can't deny
watch the world I used to love
fall to dust and thrown away
I look beyond the empty cross
forgetting what my life has cost
so wipe away the crimson stains
and dull the nails that still remain
so steal my heart and take the pain
take the selfish, take the weak
and all the things I cannot hide
take the beauty, take my tears
take my world apart, take my world apart
I pray, I pray, I pray
take my world apart

"Worlds Apart" Jars of Clay
The village square stands quiet
The curfew still enforced
The streets are even clear of dogs and whores
Like some evil bird-of-prey
The scaffold spreads its wings
The people build their fires and bolt their doors

The mayor is giving dinner to the officers’ wives
His eldest son is learning how to fawn
The barrick block is hushed and tense
The soldiers drawing lots
Who will be the hangman in the dawn?

The lot falls on a young man
Who has served for but a year
His home is in the village close nearby
He shivers at the thought of what
He’s forced to do next day
He wonders who it is who has to die?

And the full moon casts a cold light
On the gloomy prison walls
The papist walks his cell
He cannot sleep
He hears the waiting gallows creaking
Just beyond that door
He prays for he has no more tears to weep

The day begins to break
A muffled drums begins to sound
A crowd begins to gather in the square
The presence of the hangman
In his terrifying mask
Weighs heavy on the minds of all those there
The colonel reads the sentence
Which the papist knows by heart:
He has failed to show alliegence to the king
His crime is thus with God himself
And in his name he must hang
The papist, head held high
Says not a thing

The jailer binds his hands
And puts his blindfold to his eyes
He leads him through the door before the crowd
The hangman sees his victim
And the blood drains from his face:
He sees his younger brother standing proud
The hangman tries to protest
But is ordered to proceed
His trembling hands begin to take the strain
His eyes are blind with streaming tears
And he cries for all to hear:

Forgive me God we hang him in thy name!
Forgive me God we hang him in thy name!
Forgive me God we hang him in thy name!
Oh please forgive me God we hang him in thy name!
Forgive me God we hang him in thy name!

The Strawbs, The Hangman and the Papist
We got married too young, too soon
No money down, no payments 'til June
Had you believin' I'd buy you the moon
Just like a li'l rich girl, born with a silver spoon

Now I'm so far in the red
All I can see is Blue
They can take away my diamond rings
Honey, it's you I hate to lose
Oh, I hate to lose you

When times get tough, money ain't enough
Baby, can you show me what you're really made of
Well, if that's the way love goes
You might as well foreclose on the house of love

I'm workin' my fingers to the bone, seven days a week
For a high-maintenance woman, that I can't afford to keep
She used to be so wonderful, used to be so sweet
How could my Cinderella turn into Super-Freak?

Just tell the repo man to come and get the Cadillac
This time I'm leavin', Baby, and I ain't comin' back

All your kissin' and your huggin' only comes now and then
The last time you loved me right, Girl, I can't remember when
I was a henpecked husband, 'til my patience wore thin
Came home a little early, and somebody else was peckin' my hen

From now on, I'm gonna' be a rollin' stone
I'm sick and tired of tryin' to make this house a home
Goin' once, goin' twice
Lock, stock, and barrel: It's cheap at twice the price!

-- John Lee Sanders, "Foreclose on the House of Love"

(Original is here , and so is the fantastic cover version by Texas' own Marica Ball. love )
People get ready there's a ship comin
Get ready like a lover
I got a note from the heart of the darkness
The melody isn't over
Steady as steel, I want to take the wheel
'n drive you like a rock n roller
Freedom at Point Zero
'n rock n roll isn't over

One long pull to the top of the mountain now
One long pull and we're into the sky
So many miles I can't count 'em now
Oooh, let me fly -- to the sky

People get ready there's a ship comin
Get ready it's gonna be here soon
I feel a great wind sweepin through the valley
At the first light of the risin moon
Don't look back -- hold steady
Keep your eyes open we're almost ready
Like a Samurai on the edge of the sky
Cold steel in the afternoon

And its a hard world to try and get a piece of
It's a hard world for you and I
I'm goin upstream 'n hunt for a dream
It's right there for you and I
Up in the sky And it's gonna be
All-Right

Great light in the sky tonight
Oooh honey it's burning bright
Come and take me away tonight
It's All-Right

Oooh oooh oooh All-Right

Under every stone -- on every beach
Through every forest and all the trees in all the air
For all time and all space
In every land and every place
In the seas and beyond the sky
Gonna be All-Right

It's a hard world to try and get a piece of
It's a hard world for you and I
I'm goin upstream 'n go for a dream
Right there for you and I
Up in the sky
Just got to reach out and take it
It'll be All-Right

Take it -- It's gonna be All-Right

"Freedom at Point Zero," Jefferson Starship
How come you're always such a fussy young man
Don't want no Captain Crunch, don't want no Raison Bran
Well, don't you know that other kids are starving in Japan
So eat it, just eat it

Don't want to argue, I don't want to debate
Don't want to hear about what kind of food you hate
You won't get no dessert 'till you clean off your plate
So eat it

Don't you tell me you're full
Just eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it
Get yourself an egg and beat it
Have some more chicken, have some more pie
It doesn't matter if it's boiled or fried
Just eat it, eat it, just eat it, eat it
Just eat it, eat it, just eat it, eat it, ooh

Your table manners are some cryin' shame
You're playin' with your food, this ain't some kind of game
Now, if you starve to death, you'll just have yourself to blame
So eat it, just eat it

You better listen, better do what you're told
You haven't even touched your tuna casserole
You better chow down or it's gonna get cold
So eat it

I don't care if you're full
Just eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it
Open up your mouth and feed it
Have some more yogurt, have some more spam
It doesn't matter it it's fresh or canned
Just eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it
Don't you make me repeat it
Have a banana, have a whole bunch
It doesn't matter what you had for lunch
Just eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it
Eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it

Eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it
If it's gettin' cold, reheat it
Have a big dinner, have a light snack
If you don't like it, you can't send it back
Just eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it
Get yourself an egg and beat it (oh lord)
Have some more chicken, have some more pie
It doesn't matter if it's boiled or fried
Just eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it
Don't you make me repeat it (oh no)
Have a banana, have a whole bunch
It doesn't matter what you had for lunch
Just eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it

"Eat It," Weird Al Yankovic
You don't need no love in
You don't need no bed pan
You don't need a horoscope or a microscope
The see the mess that you're in
If you open up your heart
You will know what I mean
We've been polluted so long
Now here's a way for you to get clean

By chanting the names of the Lord and you'll be free
The Lord is awaiting on you all to awaken and see
Chanting the names of the Lord and you'll be free
The Lord is awaiting on you all to awaken and see

You don't need no passport
And you don't need no visas
You don't need to designate or to emigrate
Before you can see Jesus
If you open up your heart
You'll see he's right there
Always was and will be
He'll relieve you of your cares

By chanting the names of the Lord and you'll be free
The Lord is awaiting on you all to awaken and see
Chanting the names of the Lord and you'll be free
The Lord is awaiting on you all to awaken and see

You don't need no church house
And you don't need no Temple
You don't need no rosary beads or them books to read
To see that you have fallen
If you open up your heart
You will know what I mean
We've been kept down so long
Someone's thinking that we're all green

And while the Pope owns 51% of General Motors
And the stock exchange is the only thing he's qualified to quote us
The Lord is awaiting on you all to awaken and see
By chanting the names of the Lord and you'll be free

~Geo. Harrison
Because every day should be 7/4 wink

I’m proud to be an American
I’m proud of the groovy things we’ve done
There’s television, free religion, rock ’n’ roll, standard oil,
Times square, Jimmy Darren, Corey Wells, and Smokey Bear,
Price reduction, Reconstruction, Peace Corps, and lots more
Culture that we got to lend

I’m proud to be an American
And I’m proud
Had a great time bein’ one
There’s your school and my school and both of us in high school
Surfboards, cigarettes, homework, Southern Comfort
Boy’s Dean was real mean
Made us keep our locker’s clean
Failed nearly every class
Ditchin’ was a gas

I’m proud
To be a young American
I’m proud, just think about it
All the far out things that we’ve begun
There’s revolution, Constitution, land, sea, and air pollution
Cold wars, hot wars, gas wars, and confrontutions
Constipation, consternation, open-hearted palpitations
Muscular Dystrophy

I’m proud to be an American
Because we got department stores
Full of cheap guitars
But when Sputnik plays ’em, you just go go go go

I’m proud to be an American
(we got two chickens in every garage!)
And I wish every other kid could be one
(in my country, the medium is the massage!)
’Cause it’s impossible to give
Equality and justice to inferior foreigners
Too jealous to trust us

Gimme your weak and your homeless
(How ’bout checkin’ the oil there, Fella?)

I’m proud to be an American

Yellow moon
Quiet streets
Where yearning hearts
Sometimes meet
And dance warm & slow
And bittersweet
In summer's midnight
Afterglow
With secrets
Only shadows know
Held by darkness
Touched by some kind of grace
Drink from the well of sorrow
In love's midnight embrace
Then turn and walk away
Down quiet streets
Under a yellow moon

-- The Raventones, " Yellow Moon "
Oh, how I wish that you were mine
It would be so very fine
We would have a time of times
Disregarding the white lines

If I could get you, Boy
My boy
You would be my pretty toy
It would be such a joy
I might even call you 'Le Roi'

There'd be all the room on our road
To carry the load
Of all my luck
In my pretty red truck

You take me to a faraway place
The two of us, face to face
I wanna' feel your sweet embrace
Drive me off to outer space

You take me to a faraway place
The two of us, face to face
Y'know I wanna' feel your sweet embrace
Love me in your parking space...

Blue glass bottle, rising up to the surface
Blue glass bottle, drifting along the surface
Stringing beads, telling lies
Waiting for the dough to rise
Blue glass medicine bottle, sinking below the surface

Summer stories, sinking into the telling
Sunlight echoing, shining below the surface
Pale flesh, silver fin, glimmering on scale and skin
Summer mysteries, drifting along the surface

Floating, lost at sea
Life on shore means nothing to me
Floating, lost at sea
My name washes over me
Call me back, call me in
I may not see land again

I pictured a rainbow
You held it in your hands
I had flashes
But you saw the plan
I wandered out in the world for years
While you just stayed in your room
I saw the crescent
You saw the Whole of the Moon

You were there in the turnstiles
With the wind at your heels
You stretched for the stars
And you know how it feels to reach
Too high too far too soon
You saw the Whole of the Moon

I was grounded
While you filled the skies
I was dumbfounded by truth
You cut through lies
I saw the rain dirty valley
You saw Brigadoon
I saw the crescent
You saw the Whole of the Moon

I spoke about wings
You just flew
I wondered I guessed and I tried
You just knew
I sighed
But you swooned
I saw the crescent
You saw the Whole of the Moon

With a torch in your pocket
And the wind at your heels
You climbed on the ladder
And you know how it feels to reach
Too high too far too soon
You saw the Whole of the Moon

The Whole of the Moon

Unicorns and cannonballs
Palaces and piers
Trumpets towers and tenements
Wide oceans full of tears
Flags rags ferryboats
Scimitars and scarves
Every precious dream and vision
Underneath the stars

You climbed on the ladder
With the wind in your sails
You came like a comet
Blazing your trail
Too high too far too soon
You saw the Whole of the Moon

Lie still, little bottle, and shake my shaky hand
Black coffees not enough for me, I need a better friend
One pill at the bottom is singing my favorite song
I know I must investigate
I hope that I can sing along

Theres no time for metaphors cried the little pill to me
He said, life is a placebo masquerading as a simile*
Well, I knew that pill was lying
Too gregarious, too nice
But as he walked I had to sing this twice

Lie still, little bottle
Dont twist, it aint twistin time
With every move you make you just disintegrate my ever-troubled mind

Lie still, little bottle, and shake my shaky hand
Black coffees not enough for me, I need a better friend
One pill at the bottom is singing my favorite song
I know I must investigate
I hope that I can sing along

Lie still, little bottle
Lie still
Lie still, little bottle
Lie still
Lie still
Lie still

You hit me once
I hit you back
You gave a kick
I gave a slap
You smashed a plate over my head
Then I set fire to our bed

My black eye casts no shadow
Your red eye sees no blame
Your slaps don't stick
Your kicks don't hit
So we remain the same
Blood sticks, sweat drips
Break the lock if it don't fit
A kick in the teeth is good for some
A kiss with a fist is better than none

I broke your jaw once before
I spilled your blood upon the floor
You broke my leg in return
So let's sit back and watch the bed burn
Love sticks, sweat drips
Break the lock if it don't fit
A kick in the teeth is good for some
A kiss with a fist is better than none

Florence+The Machine Kiss With a Fist
Let love carry you, let love carry you
Let love carry you along
Lean back, and let love carry you along

Those times when you feel tired
And everything's gone wrong
When you wake up in the mornin'
And you know that the day's gonna' be too long
And you need somebody to talk to
But your best friend's not at home
And you're lookin' out the window
And everybody seems so alone

The world's in a bad situation
But you know that's nothin' new
And you think that you wanna' change it
But you don't know what to do
Every time you try to pick things up
Somebody tries to put you down
And you think it's time to maybe run away
But, Baby, that's the time to stick around

Some people make you happy
Others put you uptight
Somebody talkin' about peace and love
When they really wanna' start a fight
Some people wanna' be leaders
And they don't care who they lead
You've got to use your own impression
You've got to find out what you need

-- Joy of Cooking, "Let Love Carry You Along"
Tom Slick.
Tom Slick.
Let me tell you why,
He's the best of all the guys.

Tom Slick
Tom Slick
In the thunder boat grease slapper once he's on your tail.
He won't quit because you know there's no such word as fail to
Tom Slick
Tom Slick
This is it, this is it
This is life with the one you love
Come on and have fun
Look around you, all you see are sympathetic eyes
Monsters of the id
No longer stayin' hid
And terrors of the night
Are out in broad daylight

No need to knock on wood
Don't stop to say a prayer
It won't do any good
They're multiplyin' in the air

Creatures of the deep
Are goin' without sleep
And phantoms of the dark
Have their own place to park

No need to lock the door
They're sproutin' through the cracks
They're makin' room for more
They're deputizin' maniacs

Prehistoric ghouls
Are makin' their own rules
And resurrected huns
Are passin' out the guns

No need to cause a fuss
Don't go and make a scene
They know what's best for us
They're fightin' fire with gasoline

Creatures from the swamp
Rewrite their own 'Mein Kampf'
Neanderthals amuck
Just tryin' to make a buck

And goblins and their hags
Are out there wavin' flags

Oh, when will we be rid
Of monsters of the id?

-- Mose Allison "Monsters of the Id"
Oh, this death
Moment by moment
Darker and darker
Down and down
I feel your cold breath
I feel your cold breath

We've been going back and forth for a long time
We often did the right thing at the wrong time
We have hurt the ones that we love the most
'Til I wonder: Did we ever get that close?

I've been getting over you since the day we met
It might have been as simple as the way we met
Must we live in anger and in shame?
Must we always try to place the blame?

From fear to fear
From madness to madness
Everything here has been hidden and guarded
From tear to tear
From address to address
I'm on borrowed time and I'm lost and discarded

I can't decipher the questions you ask
I wouldn't blame you for taking me to task
It's hard to move freely in this cubist thing we did
Fractured and slanted, ellipse as pyramid
And I'm grateful to you for every hard thing you've done
I'll never replace you; next to you there is no one

Oh, this death
Moment by moment
Darker and darker
Down and down
I feel your cold breath
I feel your cold breath...

Three, four
Three, four

AH, AH

AH, AH

All this energy calling me
Back where it comes from
It's such a crude attitude
It's back where it belongs

All the little kids growing up on the skids
Go, "Cleveland Rocks," "Cleveland Rocks"
Jumping Jean Genie, Moody James Dean
Going, "Cleveland Rocks," "Cleveland Rocks," "Cleveland Rocks," "Cleveland Rocks"

Mama knows but she don't care
She's got her worries, too*
Seven kids growing up on the skids
And the rent is due

All the little chicks with the crimson lips
Go, "Cleveland Rocks," "Cleveland Rocks"
Living in sin on a safety pin
Going, "Cleveland Rocks," "Cleveland Rocks," "Cleveland Rocks," "Cleveland Rocks"

I got some records from World War Two
I play 'em just like me Grandad do
He was a rocker and I am, too
Oh, Cleveland Rocks
Cleveland Rocks
So find a place
Grab a space
Yell and scream for more

Cleveland Rocks
Cleveland Rocks
Cleveland Rocks
Cleveland Rocks

Cleveland Rocks
Cleveland Rocks
Cleveland Rocks
Cleveland Rocks

Ohio-io-io-io

- Ian Hunter, "Cleveland Rocks"

*When I first heard this song, I thought the words were "She's got a walrus, too." lol
I was a city child
With a sideways smile
And a worm's-eye point of view

Oh, I knew my way
'Round a backstreet, say
But I had my eye on you

Now, I know this guy
He's a screwdriver-jiver
You know, some automobeam off the streets
But he has converted me to rock and roll

Now-ow-ow-ow
I just wanna dance to
Honaloochie Boogie, yeah
Get in line, don't worry 'bout the shirt shine
Honaloochie Boogie, yeah
You sure started something

My hair gets longer
As the beat gets stronger
Wanna tell Chuck Berry my news
I get my kicks
From guitar licks
And I sold my steel-toe shoes

Now I know this guy
He's a spiderweb-sider
You know, he's hung up on some protection/rejection thing
But I have made him see the light

Now-ow-ow-ow
He just wanna dance to
Honaloochie Boogie, yeah
Get in line, don't worry 'bout the shirt shine
Honaloochie Boogie, yeah
You sure started something

Honaloochie Boogie, yeah
Get in line, don't worry 'bout the shirt shine
Honaloochie Boogie, yeah
You sure started something

- Ian Hunter (with Mott the Hoople), "Honaloochie Boogie"
He had a cheap guitar
And he wrote this tune
It goes: "Somebody owes me something.
It might as well be you."

"Hey now, you're gonna' get your blood sucked out..."

He had a dirty mind
And he wrote this note
He said: "I'm gonna' get some money for nothing.
On every song you wrote."

"Hey now, you're gonna' get your blood sucked out..."

You were sent from the Devil himself to me
And I'll see you in Hell before we're through
'Cause I've got nothing to prove to you

He had a crooked eye
With a sideways glance
He said: "I'll catch you in some twisted logic
And then I'll watch you dance."

Six billion people
Six billion ways (to do)
Six billion kinds of damage
That all feel the same

"Hey now, you're gonna' get your blood sucked out..."

You were sent from the Devil himself to me
And I'll see you in Hell before we're through
'Cause I've got nothing to prove to you

Get your blood sucked out...

-- Viva Voce: " From The Devil Himself

Make me down a pallet on your floor
Make me down a pallet on your floor
Make me down a pallet, make it soft and low
I'm broke, and I ain't got nowhere to go

Make me down a pallet, close behind your door
Make it so my man will never know

We're in the blues, everywhere I see
We're in the blues, Honey, everywhere I see
No one ever had the blues like me

Where are all you good-time friends of mine?
Where are all you good-time friends of mine?
When I had a dollar, you treated me so fine
But where are you, when I only have a dime?

Make me down a pallet, close behind your door
Make it where your woman never goes...

-- Traditional, Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor
People will be people
No tellin' what they just might do
Rich or poor, dumb or smart, high or low IQ
Can't believe everything you see
Looks don't make no saint
Beggar or king, no big thing
What you is, or what you ain't

Right or wrong, Mister or Miz
You know, the long and the short of it is
People will be people

People say they just can't change
When deep down, they know they could
Some good friend will do you in
When it don't do nobody no good
After all, they're just people

People pass that buck so fast
And wonder where their luck got lost
Nobody wants to be in charge
But they all wanna' be your boss
After all, they're just people...

-- David Egan, " People Will Be People "
I want to raise my freak flag
Higher and higher and
I want to raise my freak flag
And never be alone
In honor of Lash :

I can see her lyin' back in her satin dress
In a room where ya do what ya don't confess
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you been creepin' 'round my back stairs
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you been creepin' 'round my back stairs
She's been lookin' like a queen in a sailor's dream
And she don't always say what she really means
Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain
Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain
Find yourself in a situation
Couldn’t talk your way out of
Stimulate the conversation
How do you rise above
You try to tell some one
But you can’t describe it
We’ll start a demonstration
Or we’ll create a scene
Make noise from our frustration
Newspapers, magazines
We’ll turn them on their heads
You can’t deny it

For once
We’ll do what comes naturally
We’ll approach it casually
With no apology
For once
We can have the final say
Goodbye to yesterday
’Cause they know we’re hear to stay

Pop, pop, pop goes the world
New sensation
Pop, pop, pop goes the world
New creation

With every generation
A different set of rules
We’ll start with TV stations
The radios and schools
Just try to have some fun
And don’t get caught
We’ll capture their attention
We’ll make them quite aware
Of all of our intentions
We’ll make ’em stop and stare
They’ll take a second look
On second thought

Gossip Pop Goes The World
It could be your time and it might be
You can't do nothing about it, it's God's will, thats just how life be
One day it hit 'cha, then it's gone
And I'm serious, and you ain't never even gone feel it until it hit home

That's when the pain run sharper and deeper
You ain't eat, that's when the days feel slow and long
I know you miss 'em so it's time to uplift 'em
Try to pick the pieces up and find a way to drive on

I tell you the truth so don't lie to me
Get back Satan, don't bother me
And that's the way that it's gotta be
And real as ever, so I hope you proud of me

You keep bumping me against the wall
Yeah I know I let you slide before
But until you seen me... trust me:

You ain't seen bouncin' back.

Welcome to the Kingdom of Drink
Magic liquids change the way you think.
Over-the-counter medicine
To cure the state your head is in
And save you when you're well beyond the brink.
Welcome to the Kingdom of Drink.

You've been here ten thousand times before
I see how you waltzed right through that door.
You're quite at home here, obviously
So come and sit down next to me
And let's explore the reasons why I think
You've returned to the Kingdom of Drink.

Rum, Tequila, Vodka, Wine and Gin
Each a soldier of your misfortune
They stand at attention behind the door
And for your peace of mind
They'll go to war
To liberate your soul from where it sinks
Salute the flag in the Kingdom of Drink.

London, San Francisco, New York, Rome
Every dive you visit feels like home.
And Saudi Arabia's pretty tough
But you can find a Guinness
If you look hard enough.
Just follow the Christians
They have that certain stink.
Get baptized in the Kingdom of Drink.

The world is overrated, why take part?
It's gone straight to Hell in a shopping cart!
It's easier to disappear
And when you do, you'll find me here.
I'm grooving to the broken glasses' clink.
Holding court in the Kingdom of Drink...

-- Stew [aka Mark Stewart], " The Kingdom of Drink "
"The Night Santa Went Crazy"

Down in the workshop all the elves were makin' toys
For the good Gentile girls and the good Gentile boys
When the boss busted in, nearly scared 'em half to death
Had a rifle in his hands and cheap whiskey on his breath
From his beard to his boots he was covered with ammo
Like a big fat drunk disgruntled Yuletide Rambo
And he smiled as he said with a twinkle in his eye,
"Merry Christmas to all - now you're all gonna die!"

The night Santa went crazy
The night St. Nick went insane
Realized he'd been gettin' a raw deal
Something else else finally must have snapped in his brain

Well, the workshop is gone now, he decided to bomb it
Everywhere you'll find pieces of Cupid and Comet
And he tied up his helpers and he held the elves hostage
And he ground up poor Rudolph into reindeer sausage
He got Dancer and Prancer with an old German Luger
And he slashed up Dasher just like Freddy Krueger
And he picked up a flamethrower and he barbequed Blitzen
And he took a big bite and said, "It tastes just like chicken!"

The night Santa went crazy
The night Kris Kringle went nuts
Now you can't hardly walk around the North Pole
Without steppin' in reindeer guts

There's the National Guard and the F.B.I.
There's a van from the Eyewitness News
And helicopters circlin' 'round in the sky
And the bullets are flyin', the body count's risin'
And everyone's dyin' to know, oh Santa, why?
My my my my my my
You used to be such a jolly guy

Yes, Virginia, now Santa's doin' time
In a federal prison for his infamous crime
Hey, little friend, now don't you cry no more tears
He'll be out with good behavior in 700 more years
But now Vixen's in therapy and Donner's still nervous
And the elves all got jobs working for the postal service
And they say Mrs. Clause, she's on the phone every night
With her lawyer negotiating the movie rights

They're talkin' bout - the night Santa went crazy
The night St. Nicholas flipped
Broke his back for some milk and cookies
Sounds to me like he was tired of gettin' gypped

Wo, the night Santa went crazy
The night St. Nick went insane
Realized he's gettin' a raw deal
Something else else finally must have snapped in his brain
Wo, something finally must have snapped in his brain
Tell ya, something finally must have snapped... in his brain

Life - thin as a thread
Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you're better off dead

Your first breath is taken and into the world you are cast
You long for tomorrow while living each day as your last

Well I know what your heart desires
But you can't take it with you
Into the fire
Every now and then
life says,

"Where you think you're going
so fast?"

-Ron Sexsmith, Gold in Them Hills
David Duchovny, why won't you love me?
Why won't you love me?
Now you're sitting on a Paris train
Laughing at your own jokes again
Sun splits the trees into beautiful broken light
Never cry more tears than you could hold in your hands
When all the world's airbrushed
It's a sacred bond of trust

Sometimes... Sometimes...
I see right through the scenery
The first place that's on my mind
The last place I find each time

Sometimes... Sometimes...
I swim beyond the scenery
The last place that's on my mind
The first place I find each time

Now I'm sitting on a Paris train
Molten ash falls like rain
Fire burns the trees
It's a beautiful fatality
I love the way you stand your ground
Sea moves as mercury
To break its perfect skin
To dare to die from within

Sometimes... Sometimes...
I see much more than's good for me
The first thing that's on my mind
The last place I look each time

Sometimes... Sometimes...
I slip inside the imagery
And the last thing that's on my mind's
The first thing I'll do each time
Each time, each time

Stars racing to burn out
Just stars racing to burn out
A storm beginning to break
Trees standing black against the sky
This was inevitable
This was inevitable

Sometimes... Sometimes...
We can see beyond our history
The last place you hope to find
The one that's been there all the time

Sometimes... Sometimes...
We can swim beyond the scenery
The first place that's on your mind
The first place you'd find each time
Each time...

Stars racing to burn out
The storm beginning to break
This was inevitable

Inevitable...

-- Beth Orton/Ted Barnes, " Paris Train "
There's a ghost in my house.
I realize it's you.
You I see through.
You were right,
We don't know each other

We're staying together for the sake of our memories
that we love and cherish.
We can't let them down.

Surely our souls will perish
Surely, surely, surely...

Curve - "Perish"

edit - just wanted to add that even though it came out around 2002, this song always makes me think about the end of my 90's party days (which dragged on for a bit into the new millennium).
And when you're someone you are not
Junction City ain't the spot
Remember Mrs. Lot when she turned around

And if you've got no other choice
You know you can follow my voice
Through the dark turns and noise of this wicked little town

You really need to rent my current obsession Hedwig and the Angry Inch NOW. If the bf doesn't get me the movie soundtrack for my birthday, I'm totally divorcing him!
Baby are you down down down down down

DooooooWWWWWn DooooWWWWWWWn! laugh
Hit my snooze alarm for the twenty-seventh time
Just don't feel like goin' to work.
I think I'll call my boss, then I'm
Gonna hack and cough and wheeze
Swear I got some strange disease
What's that little twerp gonna say?

I'm callin' in sick today
Callin' in sick today

I could shine my pennies or clean my lava lamp
I could spend all day in my underwear watching "Ernest Goes To Camp"
I could sit and count my hair
I could burp my Tupperware
I'm not busy anyway

I'm callin' in sick today
Callin' in sick today
Ain't goin' to work, no way
Callin' in sick today

I can do anything I want to
I am invincible now
I'm on fire, baby
I'm alive, I'm alive
Can you hear me, World?
I'm alive!!

Maybe I'll spend all day staring at the sun
And trying not to squint
Maybe I'll make a huge color tapestry
From my belly button lint
When I'm sick of takin' abuse
I just make up some lame excuse
Freedom's just seven digits away

I'm callin' in sick today
Callin' in sick today
Ain't gonna work, no way
Callin' in sick today

-- "Weird Al" Yankovic, " Callin\' In Sick "
It begins as exile, disguised as vacation
South to the sun you go
The gray skyline you leave behind
Each day less a memory
Blue-green skies fill your eyes
And the city finally fades

Father, I have you: the heart of all my history
A landmark, by which I found my way
Father, you leave me with no objective
I cannot go and you cannot stay

Down at the crosswalk of every avenue
Darkness pursues your fragile light
They pave the stones, pull down your bones
And evict your memory
And underground, the platforms sound
Abandoned by their trains

Father, I have you: a phantom station
A passing glimmer, a former destination
Father, I leave you the memory of your heyday
Your black and white world has slipped away

Father, I have you: a spirit already
Your blue presence cold and final in my mind
Father, I leave you your good intentions
Can I not tempt you with what you leave behind?

-- Dana & Karen Kletter, " Father Song "
The moral of the adventure is this:

Take me for granted, you are taking the piss.

(Oh, love is bliss!)

Gloria
manchi tu nell'aria
manchi ad una mano
che lavora piano
manchi a questa bocca
che cibo piu non tocca
e sempre questa storia
che lei la chiamo Gloria.
Gloria sui tuoi fianchi
la mattina nasce il sole
entra odio ed esce amore
dal nome Gloria.
Gloria manchi tu nell'aria
manchi come il sale
mi manchi piu del sole
sciogli questa neve
che soffoca il mio petto
t'aspetto Gloria.
Gloria chiesa di campagna
acqua nel deserto
lascio aperto il cuore
scappa senza far rumore
dal lavore dal tuo letto
dai gradini di un altare
ti aspetto Gloria.
Gloria per chi attende il giorno
e invece di dormire
con la memoria torna
a un tuffo nei papaveri
in una terra libera
per chi respira nebbia
per chi respira rabbia
per me che senza Gloria
con te nuda sul divano
faccio stelle di cartone
pensando a Gloria.

Nobody else can see you the same way as myself
Fly high and touch the sky, you're the angel I adore
If only you could feel for me that I feel for you
Why do you ignore me, angel, why can't I go with you

You're an angel witch, you're an angel witch
You're an angel witch, you're an angel witch

The more love I feel for you, the more you fade away
Why can't you come and love me, do I have to stay this way
I'm going to go insane if nothing happens soon
I look out at the night to see your shadow by the moon

You're an angel witch, you're angel witch
You're an angel witch, you're angel witch

Walk through the forest I can feel that you're there
Why do you run away?
I'd never hurt you, I'd never hurt you
That's the last thing I'd do

You're an angel witch, you're an angel witch
You're an angel witch, you're an angel witch
Let's live our lives heroically, let's live them with style.

(Just a long, long time)

And if the two of us should ever be separated...

(Let go of me)

Take my revolution.

In the sunlit garden, we held hand in hand. We drew close for comfort, and swore that neither one of us would ever fall in love again.

(Every time)

I see that picture of us, smiling cheek to cheek.

I look at it, and loneliness starts to fill me.

(Revolution)

Even though we dream, even though we cry, even though we get hurt.

Reality keeps on coming recklessly.

I wanna find out where I am, the value of being me.

Gonna take who I've been till now...

and find the strength to throw it away.

Strip down to nothing and become like a rose petal, blowing free!

Even if the two of us are ever torn apart...

I swear that I will change the world.
Solo por ti
Me envuelvo en la peor de las locuras
Al sentirte en mi

Solo por ti
Dejare de buscar
No habra nadie igual a ti

Solo por ti
Valdra vivir
Seras de mis alas viento

Solo por ti
Sere de ti
Llegas cambiando todo un firmamento

There's a foghorn blowing, on the coast tonight,
we were making love in the rain.

Strange how laughter looks like crying with no sound,
Raindrops taste like tears, without the pain.

It's been a hard day in the city
It affects you in the most peculiar way
Dull day don't seem pretty
We've said all that there is to say
And if you were to ask me questions
You don't really want to know
Your concern is just for show
Your name's a number, just press a button
Your memories lost but they've not forgotten

They try to break our lust for passion
They try to tell us that it's not in fashion
And if you were' to ask me questions
What are we fighting-for?
We're just breaking down the door

It doesn't really matter
I've been through this all before
It doesn't really matter

They fight in England and Northern Ireland
The police they try to hold us still
They can bleed us and they can feed us
But you know they'll never control our will
And if you were to ask that question
What are we fighting for?
We're just breaking down the door

It doesn't really matter
I've been through this all before
It doesn't really matter
Oh no, don't you put me in that box
You know what you can do with those locks
Bet your life I'll come crawling out again
You'll have to deal with me then
You'll hear me in the wind

I've been on the other side of Blue Ridge
Seen the Shenandoah running there
I stepped off the mountain's edge
Just to climb the golden stair
I've seen the streets up there

I've been up on Mount Transfiguration
Been there with my Ma and my Pa
Up the Mountain of Commandments
I've been handed down the law
You should've seen what I saw

I fell to the bottom of Bailey's Well
Caught like a thief with a lamb
You know those stars, they can cast a spell
I've been caught with red hands

I've scaled the mountains, skied the valleys
I've done the highs and the lows
I don't feel like work today
Hell, I won't go!
No, I won't go!

Just let me at their locks!
We should all be free!
Oh, Bess, I swear I'll come
When I'm free from me
We should all be free

Oh, no, don't you put me in that box
You know what you can do with those locks
Bet your life I'll come crawling out again
You'll have to deal with me then
You'll hear me in the wind...

-- Kristin Hersh, " Houdini Blues "
Why do you say you caaaaaaaaaaaare?
Well you don't show it
And you know it just isn't fair

You just need someone to blaaaaaaaaaaaame
Well, someone's not me
But I know he'll be just the same

You'll come bouncing, bouncing back to me
You'll come bouncing, bouncing back to me
You'll come bouncing, bouncing back to me
You'll come bouncing, bouncing back to me

I don't know what to belieeeeeeeeeeeeeeve
Last night you held me
Today you tell me you're gonna leave

Oh, you've got so much to leaaaaaaaaaarn
Go if you must go
Oh, but I know you will return

You'll come bouncing, bouncing back to me
You'll come bouncing, bouncing back to me
You'll come bouncing, bouncing back to me
You'll come bouncing, bouncing back to me
You'll come bouncing, bouncing back to me
You'll come bouncing, bouncing back to me
You'll come bouncing, bouncing back to me
You'll come bouncing, bouncing back to me

The Wedding Present - "Boing!"
I feel it's raining all over the world...
The fires of Spring
Bring forth their wondrous life
Returning Spring the fire admiring
The spinning suns traverse the endless night
Each raging sun in time expiring
Galactic swirl proceeding on your way
Fantastic swirl beyond decoding
The spinning sun brings back another day
Rampaging suns in time exploding

No one can say they've made the most of life
No one can tell what comes with dying
The fires of Spring remain the toast of life
Each one, in time, a crucifying
Each one a time for crucifying

You don't like crazy music, you don't like rockin bands
You just want to go to a movie show, and sit there holdin hands
You're so Square, baby I don't care
Spinning around like a Catherine Wheel
Put your head inside where I make my meal
Ready or not for a love affair
With an old coke stove and a wheelchair

You're the superstar of the night scene...
I hate your diamonds
And your cheap perfume
And the way that you pose
When you walk into the room

Why should I deny all your sleazy lies?

I peek through your boudoir
Through your negligee
And all the flimsy reasons
For the stupid things you say

Why should I deny all your sleazy lies?

C'est la vie... C'est ci bon...

All your props are phony
They're just symbols of the way
You could kiss me last night
And not remember me today

Why should I deny all your sleazy lies?

I wanna' be your only punk-rock girl

Never heard Big Black and Rapeman
Yeah, whatever
And I don't know anything
All I want is Steve's ring

'Cause he can write, and he can mix
He sure is edgy, yes

Please, Steve, marry me
I wanna' be your only punk rock girl...

-- The Black Watch, " Steve Albini "
Everybody's asking why he couldn't adjust
Adjust to what? A dream that went bust?

They took a clean-cut kid
And they made a killer out of him
That's what they did.

They said what's up is down, they said what isn't is
They put ideas in his head that he thought were his.

They took a clean-cut kid
But they made a killer out of him
That's what they did.

He was on the baseball team, he was in the marching band
When he was ten years old he had a watermelon stand.

He was a clean-cut kid
And they made a killer out of him
That's what they did.

They said, "Listen boy, you're just a pup"
They sent him to a napalm health spa to shape up.

They gave him dope to smoke, drinks and pills
A jeep to drive, blood to spill.

They said "Congratulation, you got what it takes"
They sent him back into the rat race without any brakes.

They took a clean-cut kid
But they made a killer out of him
That's what they did.

He bought the American dream but it put him in debt
Only game he could play was Russian roulette.

He drank Coca-Cola, he was eating Wonder Bread
He ate Burger King, he was well fed.

He went to Hollywood to see Peter O'Toole
He stole a Rolls Royce and drove in a swimming pool.

They took a clean-cut kid
But they made a killer out of him
That's what they did.

He could've sold insurance, owned a restaurant or bar
He could've been an accountant or a tennis star.

He was wearing boxing gloves, took a dive one day
Off the Golden Gate Bridge into China Bay.

His mama walks the floor, his daddy weeps and moans
They gotta sleep together in a home they don't own.

They took a clean-cut kid
And they made a killer out of him
That's what they did.

Everybody's asking why he didn't adjust
All he ever wanted was somebody to trust.

They took his head and turned it inside out
He never did know what it was all about.

He had a steady job, he joined the choir
He never did plan to walk the high wire.

They took a clean-cut kid
And they made a killer out of him
That's what they did.

-- Bob Dylan, "Clean Cut Kid"
If I could kiss you where its sore
would you feel better
better
better
would you feel anything at all?
I'm your biggest fan I'll follow you until you love me
Papa paparazzi
Baby there's no other superstar you know that I'll be
Your papa paparazzi

Promise I'll be kind
But I won't stop until that boy is mine
Baby you'll be famous chase you down until you love me
Papa paparazzi
Glasses full of broken dreams
Lighting candles in the night
Empty places where you tried to hide
As they stole your innocence
Maybe you did learn to fly
The circle wasn't full
But it did spin...

...so high

Jesus Christ, this life can break your wings
but fear of flyin' is not the consequence
of one too many drinks

Trent Miller and the Skeleton Jive - "Fear of Flyin'"
I know that we are young.
And I know you may love me.
But I just can't be with you like this anymore.
Alejandro.

She's got both hands
in her pockets.
And she wont look at you,
Won't look at you

She hides true love.
En su bolsillo
She's got a halo around her finger.
Around you.

You know that I love you boy.
Hot like Mexico, rejoice.
At this point I gotta choose,
nothing to loose.

Don't call my name.
Don't call my name, Alejandro.
I'm not your babe.
I'm not your babe, Fernando.

Don't wanna kiss, don't wanna touch.
Just smoke one cigarette more.
Don't call my name.
Don't call my name, Roberto
That boy is a monster
M-M-M-Monster
That boy is a monster
M-M-M-Monster
That boy is a monster
Er-er-er-er

He ate my heart
(I love that girl)
He ate my heart
(Wanna talk to her, she’s hot as hell)

He ate my heart
He ate my heart
Instead he’s a monster in my bed

I wanna Just Dance
But he took me home instead
Uh oh! There was a monster in my bed
We french kissed on a subway train
He tore my clothes right off

He ate my heart the he ate my brain
Uh oh uh oh
(I love that girl)
(Wanna talk to her, she’s hot as hell)

That boy is a monster
M-m-m-monster
(Could I love him?)

That boy is a monster
M-m-m-monster
(Could I love him?)

That boy is a monster
M-m-m-monster
(Could I love him?)

That boy is a monster
Er-er-er-er
You're my angel
Come and save me tonight
you're my angel
Come and take me allright
Come and save me tonight, Come and save me tonight, Come and save me tonight,
Come and save me tonight, Come and save me tonight
maybe the best lyrics ever: laugh

Blood roses
Blood roses
Back on the street now
Blood roses
Blood roses
Back on the street now
Can't forget the things you never said
On days like these starts me thinking
When chickens get a taste of your meat girl
Chickens get a taste of your meat yes

You gave him you blood
And your warm little diamond
He likes killing you after you're dead
You think I'm a queer
I think you're a queer
Said I think you're a queer
I think you're a queer
I shaved every place where you been boy
I said I shaved every place where you been yes

God knows I know
I've thrown away those graces
God knows I've thrown away
Those graces
God knows I know
I've thrown away those graces

The Belle of New Orleans tried to show me
Once how to tango
Wrapped around you feet
Wrapped around like good little roses

Blood Roses
Blood Roses
Back on the street now
Blood Roses
Blood Roses
Back on the street now
Now, Now
Now you've cut out the flute
From the throat of the loon
At least when you cry now
He can't even hear you
When chickens get a taste of your meat girl
Come on

Come on
When he sucks you deep
Sometimes you're nothing but meat
I’m colourful
I get so nervous I stutter, stutter
I am so clumsy I fumble, stumble
I'm not some romance god but does it matter
I’m colourful

The Parlotones - "Colourful"
Look out ahead
I see danger come
I want a pistol
I want a gun
I'm scared, Baby
I wanna run
This world's crazy
Give me the gun

Baby, baby
Ain't it true
I'm immortal
When I 'm with you
But I want a pistol
In my hand
I wanna go to
A different land

I met a man
He told me straight
"You gotta leave
It's getting late"
Too many cops
Too many guns
All trying to do something
No-one else has done...

Sometimes it rains so hard
And I feel the hurt
In my heart
Feels like the end of the world
I see the children
Sharp as knives
I see the children
Dead and alive
Beautiful people
Beautiful girls
I just feel like it's the end of the world

I walk on concrete
I walk on sand
But I can't find
A safe place to stand
I'm scared baby
I wanna run
This world's crazy
Give me the gun...

-- P.J. Harvey " Big Exit "
Follow through
Make your dreams come true
Don't give up the fight
You will be all right
Cause there's no one like you
In the universe

Don't be afraid
What your mind conceals
You should make a stand
Stand up for what you believe
And tonight we can truly say
Together we're invincible

And during the struggle
They will pull us down
But please, please let's use this chance to
Turn things around
And tonight we can truly say
Together we're invincible

Do it on your own
Makes no difference to me
What you leave behind
What you choose to be
and whatever they say
Your soul's unbreakable

And during the struggle
They will pull us down
But please, please let's use this chance to
Turn things around
And tonight we can truly say
Together we're invincible
Together we're invincible

And during the struggle
They will pull us down
Please, please let's use this chance to
Turn things around
And tonight we can truly say
Together we're invincible

Invicible, Muse
There's no need to find a reason for your dreams
For there is always more to dreaming than there seems to be
And I'll be thankful if throughout my life you dream of me
It's all that I could ask for while I live
A dream is such a lovely gift to give.

Your fragile beauty caught me in its web
And I am held by every silver strand of love you spin
Here in a swirl of sleepy circles all my dreams begin
Dreams that always somehow end with you
You're the one who makes my dreams come true

Sleep is lovely
When you sleep next to me
And while you're dreaming
Let your thoughts all run free

But if I could understand what makes you think
Then I would capture you and hold you for eternity
And I'm afraid that would destroy the love you feel for me
And loving you is how it has to be
The reasons don't mean anything to me
Yes, loving you is how it has to be
The reasons don't mean anything to me...

-- Don McLean "No Reason For Your Dreams"

StarBoy
Have you heard about the lonesome loser
Beaten by the queen of hearts every time
Have you heard about the lonesome loser
He's a loser, but he still keeps on tryin'

- Little River Band "Lonesome Loser"
shake Quis always knows my Kryptonite...
A wise man was telling stories to me
About the places he had been to
And the things that he had seen
A quiet voice, singing something to me
An age-old song 'bout the home of the brave
In this land here of the free

One time, one night in America

A lady dressed in white, with the man she loved
Standing alone by the side of a pick-up truck
A shot rang out in the night
Just when everything seemed right
Another headline written down in America

Man who lived next door in 305
Took the kids to the park and disappeared 'bout half past five
Who will ever know how much she loved them so?
That dark night alone in America

Four small boys, playing ball in the parking lot
A preacher, a teacher, and the other became a cop
A car skidded into the rain
Making the last little one a saint
One more light goes out in America

A young girl tosses a coin in the wishing well
Prays to Heaven, while for her there's just this Hell
She gave away her life to become somebody's wife
Another wish unanswered in America

People having so much faith
Die too soon while all the rest come late
We write a song that no one sings
On a cold black stone that peace will finally bring

Sunlight plays upon my windowpane
I wake up to a world that's still the same
My father said to be strong
That a good man could never do wrong
In a dream I had last night in America...

-- Los Lobos, " One Time, One Night "
"I came around to tear your little world apart
And break your soul apart."

Garbage, "Vow"
Got a reason to laugh
Got a reason to cry
Believing you're wise
And being so dumb

World is so worried
World is so worried
Be a liar everywhere
Shut up!
Don't cry!

The Monks, "Shut Up"
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
Drifting down a river of cars
I saw your name written up in the stars
I jumped ship and I'm down a hole
Deep underground like a lump of coal
Then a dream I never knew came true

They'll rattle your cage, they'll yank your chain
And all your dreams tumble down the drain
Never give up, never give in
Poverty sucks but it ain't no sin
Then a dream you never knew comes true...

Ooh, good one. I only dimly remembered the XTC version when Sarah McLachlan covered it.

Take these memories
that are haunting me,
of a paper man, cut into shreds,
by his own pair of scissors.

He'll never forgive her,
he'll never forgive her...
It's really laughable AH HA HA HA HA HA HA UH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
It's a Raymond Chandler Evening
At the end of someone's day
And I'm standing in my pocket
And I'm slowly turning grey

I remember what I told you
But I can't remember why
And the yellow leaves are falling
In a spiral from the sky

There's a body on the railing
That I can't identify
And I'd like to reassure you but
I'm not that kind of guy

It's a Raymond Chandler Evening
And the pavements are all wet
And I'm lurking in the shadows
'Cause it hasn't happened yet.

--Robyn Hitchcock, "Raymond Chandler Evening"
I'm taking a ride with my best friend
I hope he never lets me down again
Promises me I'm as safe as houses
As long as I remember who's wearing the trousers
I hope he never lets me down again
Miss Otis regrets that she is unable to lunch today.
Don't come the cowboy with me, sonny jim.
You have to do it running but you do everything that they ask you to
cause you don’t mind seeing yourself in a picture
as long as you look faraway, as long as you look removed
showered and blue-blazered, fill yourself with quarters
showered and blue-blazered, fill yourself with quarters

You get mistaken for strangers by your own friends
when you pass them at night under the silvery, silvery citibank lights
arm in arm in arm and eyes and eyes glazing under
oh you wouldn’t want an angel watching over
surprise, surprise they wouldn’t wanna watch
another uninnocent, elegant fall into the unmagnificent lives of adults

Make up something to believe in your heart of hearts
so you have something to wear on your sleeve of sleeves
so you swear you just saw a feathery woman
carry a blindfolded man through the trees
showered and blue-blazered, fill yourself with quarters
showered and blue-blazered, fill yourself with quarters

I, I still recall
The first full moon of May
'Neath who's rays we lay together
And those bright nights on glassy waves
When we would glide lightly away
From the grain
and wicked flights of pleasure
Here come cowboys
Here to save us all
Here come cowboys
They're so within the law
Here come cowboys
They're no fun at all

- Psychedelic Furs, "Here Come Cowboys"

Over a quarter century later, those words are more relevant than ever. frown

Funny how it always takes foreigners to articulate exactly what's wrong with America.
What I want
What I need
I wanna' wind you up and bring you up to speed
While you were talking, and I didn't hear what you said
I had a vision of myself, and I was flying out of bed

I love you, but I'm sleepwalking
For now, why don't you quit talking?
I love you, but I've hit the wall
And I'm not at all myself today

What I want
What I need
I want to wind you up and bring you up to speed
I need passion, can't buy a thrill
But I had dreams last night that I was Cecille B. DeMille

I love you, but I'm sleepwalking
For now, why don't you quit talking?
I love you, but I've hit the wall
And I'm not at all myself today

I'm walking in my sleep...

-- Meg Hentges, "Sleepwalking"
It’s a long way back where I've fallen down
It’s a very hard fall, it’s a very cruel town
And my dress is torn, and I got no jewels
And I’m hungry for, life a little less cruel
Some dignity, and not too much sorrow
just a little bit of hope
oh after tomorrow

And I don’t care what it takes my friends
I’ll never go hungry, go hungry again
Oh and I don’t care what I have do defend
I will never go hungry, go hungry again

It’s a long ride home, and my head is bowed
And you’re no comfort to me now
And it’s fully loaded, and it’s set on stun
At least I know that I have won
And my wigs on crooked
And I got no shoes
I rock back and forth and I wait for you

oh I don’t care what it takes my friends
I will never go hungry, go hungry again
Oh and I don’t care what I have to pretend
I will never go hungry, go hungry again

And out of it all, I have survived
From the fires of hell, I am alive
Cities crush your spirit
Survive this mess you’ve made
god can you hear us?
your my salvation day (?)
And it’s time for me to take a stand
And it’s time for me, yeah, to be a maaaaaannnn

I don’t care what it takes my friends
I will never go hungry again, go hungry again
Oh and I don’t care what I have to pretend
I will never go hungry again, go hungry again

And the phoenix she rises
She is sure to descend
She will never hungry, go hungry again
And you’re looking to me more and more like a godsend
We will never go hungry, go hungry again
And we owe each other nothin
There’s no one left here to offend
We will never go hungry
Go hungry agaiiiin.
<font face="chalkboard">"Well I ain't afraid of dyin', it's the thought of being dead
I wanna go on being me once my eulogy's been read
Don't spread my ashes out to sea, don't lay me down to rest
You can put my mind at ease if you fulfill my last request

Prop me up beside the jukebox if I die
Lord, I wanna go to heaven but I don't wanna go tonight
Fill my boots up with sand, put a stiff drink in my hand
Prop me up beside the jukebox if I die

Just let my headstone be a neon sign
Let it burn in mem'ry of all of my good times
Fix me up with a manequin, just remember I like blondes
I'll be the life of the party even when I'm dead and gone

Prop me up beside the jukebox if I die
Lord, I wanna go to heaven but I don't wanna go tonight
Fill my boots up with sand, put a stiff drink in my hand
Prop me up beside the jukebox if I die

Just make your next selection and while your still in line
You can pay you last respects one quarter at a time

Prop me up beside the jukebox if I die
Lord, I wanna go to heaven but I don't wanna go tonight
Fill my boots up with sand, put a stiff drink in my hand
Prop me up beside the jukebox if I die

Oh, prop me up beside the jukebox if I die"

I sat down at the counter, with my menu in my hand,
When I saw what was behind it, I hit a grand slam

I saw my milk shakin momma
Saw my soda jerkin baby
I saw the girl that keeps the ice cream
And I just had to scream for her

She said"what will you have sir" and "what flavor would you like"?
And just the way she said it got me higher than a kite

Raspberry strawberry lemon or fudge
Even some spumoni couldn't make me budge
Marishino cherry, sittin on top
Bananas and some whipped cream couldn't get me from that shop

And then I had a root beer
As I paid my check I wondered if'n she'd ever call me dear

She's the girl that keeps the ice cream
And I just had to scream for her

Luckily I hung around until she got off work
Later we got married and had a bunch of little jerks

That's my milk shakin momma, my soda jerking baby
She's the girl that keeps the ice cream, and I just had to scream for her

Next time you're hungry, take my advice
Try the soda fountain, it could be just as nice
It could be just as nice.
Breakneck speed
Tying up your hands
'cause you're landing back on your feet

You know what I mean

Vowel change
I remember when our voices used to sound the same
Now we just translate

'cause I'm still amazed you made it out alive
After what you did
Born on your feet running,
Forest fires underneath your bed

But it's good to be back
Good to be back
Good to be back

Spell it out
I always skip the words
'cause all the pictures are so bright and loud
Better off than now

'cause I'm still amazed you made it out alive
After what you did
Born on your feet, running
Forest fires underneath your bed

'cause it's good to be back
Good to be back

Super fun
At the movies, drunk and young
Double knots that came undone

But the big bad years are gone
Yeah, the big bad years are done
And gone away
I remember when our voices used to sound the exact same
Now we just translate

'cause I'm still amazed you made it out alive
After what you did
Born on your feet running,
forest fires underneath your bed

But it's good to be back
Good to be back
Good to be back

Breakneck Speed - Tokyo Police Club
Somehow I'd be doing all right if it wasn't for the nights

If it wasn't for the nights I think that I could make it

I'd have courage left to fight if it wasn't for the nights

If it wasn't for the nights I think that I could take it

How I fear the time when shadows start to fall

Sitting here alone and staring at the wall

Even I could see a light if it wasn't for the nights

Even I could see a light I think that I could make it

Somehow I'd be doing all right if it wasn't for the nights

If it wasn't for the nights I think that I could take it

"I ain't got no body...."
My love, wherever you are
Whatever you are
Don't lose faith
I know it's gonna happen someday
To you

Please wait
Please wait
Wait
Don't lose faith

You say the day just never arrives
And it's never seemed to far away
Still, I know it's gonna happen someday
To you

Please wait
Don't lose faith

- Morrissey, "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday"
One day you will find me again
it won't be long
One of these days, our love will lead you back.

Outside
Gets inside
Through her skin.
I've been out before
But this time it's much safer in.

Last night in the sky,
Such a bright light.
My radar send me danger
But my instincts tell me to keep

Breathing,
("Out, in, out, in, out, in...")
Breathing,
Breathing my mother in,
Breathing my beloved in,
Breathing,
Breathing her nicotine,
Breathing,
Breathing the fall-out in,
Out in, out in, out in, out in.

My wife and I actually caught the Pussycat Dolls' act at their Lounge in Ceasar's Palace in Vegas and it was pretty good actually! It wasn't the pop group but the "hardly known" lounge gals ... not bad at all! Oh and they were all SO hard on the eyes! lol
I was trying real hard to pretend like " oh honey, they're no big deal".... and my wife's like" mmm-hmmmm, yeah right"

"I guess you're just what I needed, just what I needed!"
Here's a goody from Ray le Montagne
Jolene
Been so long since I seen your face
Or felt a part of this human race
I've been living out of this here suitcase for way too long
A man needs something he can hold onto
A nine pound hammer or a woman like you
Either one of them things will do
Jolene
I ain't about to go straight
It's too late
I found myself face down in a ditch
Booze in my hair
Blood on my lips
A picture of you holding a picture of me
In the pocket of my blue jeans
Still don't know what love means
Still don't know what love means
Jolene
Jolene
Jolene
And on another "note":

Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Im begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, jolene

He talks about you in his sleep
There's nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, jolene

And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don't know what he means to me, jolene

Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Im begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Please don't take him just because you can

You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
Hes the only one for me, jolene

I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do, jolene

Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Im begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Please don't take him even though you can
Jolene, jolene
Eyes to see, eyes to see
But I had to look away
Didn't want my eyes to see
Coming of Judgment Day
Judgment Day, Judgment Day
Time has come at last
Saying last shall be first
And first shall be last

First is last...

It happened oh so fast
Mean black crow, swooping real low
Ruination in its path
Ruination ruination
Raining ash and dust
Fell on my knees begging
Please please please
Could not stand back up

I fell right down again
Couldn't bear to stand up straight
The whole sky was cavin' in
Cavin' in, cavin' in
Lord, mercy it's gonna' go
Glass and steel I can see 'em still
Jumping from the windowsill
See 'em still, see 'em still
Floatin' on a cloud
A hundred bluebirds came wingin' by
Rescued 'em no doubt
No doubt, no doubt

They learned the bluebirds' song
'Bout rooftops and trees
Sunshiney breeze
We all can sing along
Little song, little song
Won't you soothe the hurt?
Trembling voice, trembling heart
Ain't this a broken world?
Broken world, broken world
Lord, this world is broke

Who's got the arms big and wide
To hold the whole world right close?
Broken world, broken world
Just like a broken top
And it won't spin straight
When it's spun with hate
How we gonna' make it stop?

-- Kate Schutt, 2001
You told me that I was like an angel
Told me I was fit to wear a crown
So that you could get a thrill
You put me on a pedestal
And then you let me down, let me down.

You told me that I'd be wearing diamonds
I would have the smartest car in town
Made me think that I'm the top
And then you let the ladder drop
You know you let me down, let me down

I walked upon a rainbow
I clung onto a star
You had me up in heaven
That's why I had to tall so far

I was even looking for a cottage
I was measured for a wedding gown
That how I got cynical
You put me on a pinnacle
And then you let me down, let me down
How you let me down

-- Al Dubin/Harry Warren, c1933

There's a little black spot on the sun today
It's the same old thing as yesterday
There's a black hat caught in a high tree top
There's a flag-pole rag and the wind won't stop

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain

There's a little black spot on the sun today
(That`s my soul up there)
It's the same old thing as yesterday
(it`s my soul up there)
There's a black hat caught in a high tree top
(it`s my soul up there)
There's a flag-pole rag and the wind won't stop
(it`s my soul up there)

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain

There's a fossil that's trapped in a high cliff wall
(it`s my soul up there)
There's a dead salmon frozen in a waterfall
(it`s my soul up there)
There's a blue whale beached by a spring tide's ebb
(it`s my soul up there)
There's a butterfly trapped in a spider's web
(it`s my soul up there)

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain

There's a king on a throne with his eyes torn out
There's a blind man looking for a shadow of doubt
There's a rich man sleeping on a golden bed
There's a skeleton choking on a crust of bread

King of pain

There's a red fox torn by a huntsman's pack
There's a black-winged gull with a broken back
There's a little black spot on the sun today
It's the same old thing as yesterday

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain

King of pain
I'll always be king of pain
I'll always be king of pain
Bullet-proof glass at the KFC
Keep the man safe in his paper hat
Keep the wrong hands off the biscuit fortune
He thinks he's got the whole world in his hands
Staring at the urinal
Just a castaway, an island lost at sea, oh
Another lonely day, with no one here but me, oh
More loneliness than any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair, oh

I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I'll send an S.O.S. to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle, yeah
Message in a bottle, yeah

There's a weapon that we must use in our defense...
I am milk, I am red hot kitchen
But I am cool, cool as the deep blue ocean
I'm your only friend. I'm not your only friend. But I'm a little glowing friend. But really I'm not actually your friend. But I am.
There is something in my house, my house
It's just the ghost of a long, long dead affair
There is something in my house, my house
I just keeping hearing you a-running over the stairs
But you're not there!
Days, they force you
Under the covers.
Lazy mornings, they multiply.

Glory's waiting
Outside your window.
Wake on up from your slumber.
Baby, open up your eyes.
Once upon a time
Once when you were mine
I remember skies
Reflected in your eyes
I wonder where you are
I wonder if you think about me
Once upon a time
In your wildest dreams
Are you giving up on me
Or thinking of your flight?
Driving off a cliff
Feel the wind in my hair
Try to grab the dashboard
But it's really not there
Into the abyss
Should I really even care?

I'll tell you why
I tell you lies
I'll tell you why

Wake up all alone
To piece together failure
Could it be that I'm a drone
Still searching for a season?
Should I put it back again
Or try to break the mold?
Driving off a cliff
Feel the wind in my hair

I'll tell you why
I tell you lies
I'll tell you why

And you say you'll go away
But I know it's just a phase
I know, I see your face

So are you giving up on me
Or thinking of your flight?
Driving off a cliff
Feel the wind in my hair...

Maybe I hang around here
a little more than I should
We both know I got somewhere else to go
But I got something to tell you
that I never thought I would
But I believe you really ought to know

I love you
I honestly love you

You don't have to answer
I see it in your eyes
Maybe it was better left unsaid
This is pure and simple
and you should realize
That it's coming from my
heart and not my head

I love you
I honestly love you
"Snowy nights and Christmas lights,
Icy window panes,
Make me wish that we could be
Together again

And the windy winter avenues
Just don't seem the same
And the Christmas carols sound like blues,
But the choir is not to blame

But it doesn't have to be that way
What we had should never have ended
I'll be dropping by today
We could easily get it together tonight
It's only right

Crowded stores, the corner Santa Claus
Tinseled afternoons
And the sidewalk bands play their songs
Slightly out of tune

Down the windy winter avenues
There walks a lonely man
And if I told you who he is
Well I think you'd understand

But it doesn't have to be that way
What we had should never have ended
I'll be dropping by today
We could easily get it together tonight
It's only right

No, it doesn't have to be that way
What we had should never have ended
I'll be dropping by today
We could easily get it together tonight
It's only right"

-- Jim Croce, * It Doesn\'t Have To Be That Way*
"Stars suspended in midair
What is the question here
You see what I mean?
If we exist down here
Why do some people care
About things unseen?

(Too many people care...)

In the quest to explain everything
They forget we don't know anything
How can they decide that we are the one
On this trivial 3rd stone from the sun?

So now that the picture's clear
We don't know why we're here
It may be a dream
It may be a dream..."

-- Fay Victor, * Earth *
Sing, shout, knock yourself out
Tell ya how to survive by keepin' it loud

- Slade, "Sing Shout (Knock Yourself Out)"
So the choice I have made
May seem strange
To you
But
Who asked you, anyway?
It's my life
To wreck
My own way

You see, to someone, somewhere
Alma matters in mind, body, and soul
In part and in whole

Beacuse to someone, somewhere
Alma matters in mind, body, and soul
In part and in whole

So, the life I have made
May seem strange
To you
But
I've never been surer
It's my life
To ruin
My own way

You see, to someone, somewhere
Alma matters in mind, body, and soul
In part and in whole

Because to someone, somewhere
Alma matters in mind, body, and soul
In part and in whole

Morrissey, "Alma Matters"
" And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh whoa "

Florence and the Machine. "Shake it Out"
This song was okay the first few times I heard it, then it got old really fast.

For some reason though, this part keeps going through my mind lately...

I get knocked down, but I get up again
You nay ever gonna keep me down
I get knocked down, but I get up again
You nay ever gonna keep me down
I get knocked down, but I get up again
You nay ever gonna keep me down
I get knocked down, but I get up again
You nay ever gonna keep me down
I think about the life I've lived
A figure made of clay
I think about the things I lost
And things I gave away
And when I'm in a certain mood
I search the halls and look
One day, I found these magic words
In a magic book

[chorus]
Throw it away
You can throw it away
Give your love, live your life
Each and every day
And keep your hands wide open
And let the sun shine through
'Cause you can never lose a thing
If it belongs to you

There's a hand to rock the cradle
And a hand to help us stand
With a gentle kind of motion
As it moves across the land
And the hand, unclenched and open
Gifts of life and love it brings
So keep your hands wide open
If you're needin' anything

[chorus]

There's a natural obligation
To what we own and claim
Possessing and belonging to
Acknowledging a Name
So keep your hands wide open
If you're needin' love today
'Cause you can't lose it
Even if you throw it all away...

-- Abbey Lincoln " Throw It Away "
Wave goodbye
See my heart.... so blue
Did it all for that dollar.
She's a star tonight.
Without warning, she gave up the ghost inside.

Can you hear us, can you hear us?
We're talking about the overnight angels
Soon, soon, soon
You will be obliged to try

Soon, soon, soon
You will reach your moon and die

Soft Machine, "We Know What You Mean"
Jason came in from Peoria wearing silk sunglasses
His girlfriend Gloria wore metal shoes
That emitted poison gasses from the heels

One drink of that stuff
And Zam! The walls became floors
Became ceilings became doors
The singer just kept singing
'Feelings'
That's right when I snapped
Needless to say
The party broke up

That flashing tie was a riot!
And what was that other remark that you made?
Oh, yes you're unemployed
Me, too
I know what you mean

Someone began to discuss paranoia
When lightning destroyed half the room with one blast!
The last of us killed off the wine and went home
Needless to say
The party broke up

-- Was (Not Was), " The Party Broke Up "
Ohhh, if there's one thing I hang onto,
That gets me through the night.
I ain't gonna do what I don't want to,
I'm gonna live my life.
Shining like a diamond, rolling with the dice,
Standing on the ledge, I show the wind how to fly.
When the world gets in my face,
I say, Have A Nice Day.
Have A Nice Day

"The Sound of Muzak"
Porcupine Tree
"On the outskirts of expansion
Looking out from Blueprint Peak
The flow is flooding of urban setters
Panning through rivers running dry

Numbers roll on in
Smiling a lottery grin
A sadness blurs the eye
It's just a matter of time in the moving on
It's just a matter of time before they're moving on
Doesn't take much time for plans to go wrong
And chase another ghost of a chance

In the shadow of chain-store ghost towns
Where no one walks the streets at night
The silent nation hooked on medication
Stares into a blue flickering light
The young drift off alone
And the old are whisked away
And prospects keep looking up

But the line is getting long on the lost highway
The line's getting longer on the lost highway
Doesn't take much time for plans to go astray
And chase another ghost of a chance

They say deep down inside
Lie properties of a healing kind
If so, better come around soon
And do a little bit of service and repair
Do a little bit of service and repair

Do a little more service and repair
Doesn't take much time for plans to change
And offer up another chance
At sowing a dream better suited
For bold soul
And soil."

-- Calxico "Service and Repair"
First day with the jar, you find
Everyone lies
First day with the jar, you find
Everyone lies, nobody minds, everyone lies
Where is the man you respect?
And where is the woman you love?
Where's the woman you love?

Third week with the jar, you find
Everything dies
We won't vote Conservative
Because we never have -- everyone lies, everyone lies
Where is the man you respect?
And where is the woman you love?
Where's the woman you love?

Everything of worth
On Earth
Is there
To share

I used to dream, and I used to vow
I wouldn't dream of it now
We look to Los Angeles
For the language we use
London is dead, London is dead
London is dead, London is dead
London is dead, London is dead
Now I'm too much in love
I'm too much in love

I know
I'll go
Empty hand
From the land

Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to?
Do you know...?
Do you get
What you're hoping for
When you look behind you
There's no open door
What are you hoping for?
Do you know...?
Once we were standing still in time
Chasing the fantasies
That filled our minds
You knew how I loved you
But my spirit was free
Laughin' at the questions
That you once asked of me
Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you

Where are you going to?
Do you know...?
Now looking back at all we've planned
We let so many dreams
Just slip through our hands
Why must we wait so long
Before we'll see
How sad the answers
To those questions can be
Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you
Where are you going to?
Do you know...?
Do you get
What you're hoping for
When you look behind you
There's no open door
What are you hoping for?
Do you know...?
Vad är ni för underligt ting
som talar om vilsenhet?
De asar som styr oss i vär tro
talar om att det som sker,
tar oss till en bättre värld.

Vad är sant,
vad är falskt
i en framkallad illusion?
Att bli försedd och ledd,
konstant beredd,
gör det dig fri och stark it tron?
Frågor som ständs är mig när.

Drömmar om abstrakta ting
tar oss med på en okänd färd,
där begränsning, rätt,
fel och tid
ej har nägon existens.
Förunderlinga ting finns det där.

Anglagard, Ifran Klarhet Till Klarhet
I already posted these a while ago, but I'm really feeling them right now...

GOTTA SING, SHOUT, KNOCK YOURSELF OUT,
TELL YOU HOW TO SURVIVE BY KEEPIN' IT LOUD
NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA
NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA

- Slade, "Sing, Shout, Knock Yourself Out"
Put it in your pantry with your cupcakes
I'll do my time
Keeping you off my mind but there's moments
That I find
I'm not feeling so strong

Listen to the mandolin rain
Listen to the music on the lake
Aw, listen to my heart break
Every time she runs away

Oh, listen to the banjo wind
A sad song drifting low
Listen to the tears roll
Down my face as she turns to go
Please sing to me,
I can see you open up to breathe.
Fast words make it easier on me,
If the points to never disappoint you,
Somebody's got to tell me what to do
I just wish you could have seen me
When it used to come so easy.
I'd like to say that it's easy to stay
But it's not for me,
Cause I'm barely here at all.

You can't get to those better days
Unless you make it through the night

You will see those better days
But you gotta be patient

Grab your tissues and do yourself a favor and listen to it:

Dianne Reeves..... BETTER DAYS
Surely someday I'll arise and see the morning sun
Without another lonley night behind me
Then I'll know I'm over you
And all my crying's done
No more hurting memories can find me

**Don't fool yourself into thinking Ms. Tammy Wynette wasn't one of the finest songwriters ever. Drink 7 beers, grab a box of tissues, and play this:

Tammy Wynette... \'TIL I CAN MAKE IT ON MY OWN
So I'll just close my eyes and dream about you
'Cause every time I dream you're always there
Then we lock the door behind us
And in my dreams the world can't find us

It will be so real to me
It's finally... you and me

**Ms. Wynette wasn't scared to reference self-pleasure as is evidenced in the final lyrics of this, my absolute favorite Tammy Wynette song of all time. She knew the angst of wanting to be with someone she wasn't with, as most of us have known at some point.

Tammy Wynette... YOU AND ME
But you can't hold on to
Something else else that you never had before

Love waits for the wind to bring you back again
And take me away
...and it's rainin'
all over the world
and it's rainin'
all over the world
tonight... the longest night...

When you talkin' in your sleep..."

"Life is so strange,
when you don't know
your destination.

Destination unknown."
"One summer never ends,
One summer never began"
I'm absolutely free
living in the trees
The birdies and the bees
'Cause I'm a nature boy
Think what you like
This is really where it's at
"Get the bow going
Let it scream to me
Violin! Violin! Violin!"
"Your Anarchist friend with the real smooth skin stretches on the couch, yeah
She says that I won't have to watch what I say after she washes my mouth out

She's such a good friend and that law school grin has got me levitating
Some guy with a book with a pissed off look
Her angry boyfriend's waiting

Ahmnot madatcha
Woo hoo woo hoo

We're sparring you see, but not seriously
She finds me entertaining
Her terms are defined and her eyebrows are lined and I'm barely maintaining

Oh, but I am

She's got me floating in space
Girl you've found that your place is really in the kitchen
Denying what's given like natural rhythm
It's too gruesome to mention, so

Ahmnot Madatcha
Woo hoo woo woo..."

-- The Negro Problem, " Ahmnot Madatcha "
You know, the sun is in your eyes
And hurricanes and rains
And black and cloudy skies.

You're running up and down that hill.
You turn it on and off at will.
There's nothing here to thrill
Or bring you down.
And if you've got no other choice
You know you can follow my voice
Through the dark turns and noise
Of this wicked little town.
Too many walls have been built in between us
Too many dreams have been shattered around us
If I seem to give up, they'll still never win
Deep in my heart, I know the strength is within
I swore, I swore I would be true
But honey so did you

......

I thought nothing could go wrong
But I was wrong
There's no stopping us right now...

I FEEL SO CLOSE TO YOU RIGHT NOW!
"On Armistice Day, the Philharmonic will play
But the songs they'll be singin' will be sad
Shufflin' brown tunes
Hangin' around ah-ooo

No long, drawn blown-out excuses were made
When I needed a friend, she was there
Just like an easy chair

Armistice Day, Armistice Day,
That's all I really wanted to say

Oh, I'm weary from waiting, in Washington, D.C.
I'm comin' to see my Congressman, but he's avoiding me
Weary from waiting, down in Washington, D.C.

Congresswoman, won't you tell that Congressman
I've waited such a long time, I've about waited all I can

Congresswoman, won't you tell that Congressman...?"

-- Paul Simon, "Armistice Day"
You made everything so spic and span
You cleaned everything a cleaning lady can
But I can't throw away your plastic cart

......because you missed a spot

In my heart (heart heart heart-heart-heart heart heart heart-heart-heart heart heart heart-heart-heart)

In my heart
I want to break free
I want to break free
I want to break free from your lies
You're so self satisfied I don't need you
I've got to break free
God knows, God knows I want to break free

I've fallen in love
I've fallen in love for the first time
And this time I know it's for real
I've fallen in love yeah
God knows God knows I've fallen in love

It's strange but it's true
I can't get over the way you love me like you do
But I have to be sure
When I walk out that door
Oh how I want to be free baby
Oh how I want to be free
Oh how I want to break free

But life still goes on
I can't get used to living without living without
Living without you by my side
I don't want to live alone hey
God knows got to make it on my own
So baby can't you see
I've got to break free

I've got to break free
I want to break free yeah

I want, I want, I want, I want to break free
I threw a wish in the well,
Don't ask me, I'll never tell
I looked to you as it fell,
And now you're in my way

I'd trade my soul for a wish,
Pennies and dimes for a kiss
I wasn't looking for this,
But now you're in my way

Your stare was holdin',
Ripped jeans, skin was showin'
Hot night, wind was blowin'
Where you think you're going, baby?

Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

It's hard to look right,
At you baby,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

And all the other boys,
Try to chase me,
But here's my number,
So call me, maybe?

You took your time with the call,
I took no time with the fall
You gave me nothing at all,
But still, you're in my way

I beg, and borrow and steal
Have foresight and it's real
I didn't know I would feel it,
But it's in my way

Your stare was holdin',
Ripped jeans, skin was showin'
Hot night, wind was blowin'
Where you think you're going, baby?
In this world
Divided by fear
We've got to believe that
There's a reason we're here
Yeah, there's a reason we're here...

Oh, yeah...

Cause these are the days worth living
These are the years we're given
And these are the moments
These are the times
Let's make the best out of our lives...

In this world
Divided by fear
We've got to believe that
There's a reason we're here
Yeah, there's a reason we're here...

Oh, yeah...

Cause these are the days worth living
These are the years we're given
And these are the moments
These are the times
Let's make the best out of our lives...

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm

The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow
And I keep hoping
You are the same as me
And I write you letters
And go to your house for tea
We are who we are
What do the others know?
But poetry
Is not for me
So show me the way to go home
From Savage Garden's Hold Me. Those guys sure wrote awesome lyrics!

Hey Hey
More than angry words I hate this silence
It's getting so loud
Well I wanna scream
But bitterness has silenced these emotions
It's getting hard to breathe
So tell me isn't happiness
Worth more than a golden diamond ring?
I'm willing to do anything
To calm the storm in my heart
I've never been the praying kind
But lately I've been down upon my knees
Not looking for a miracle
Just a reason to believe

Got to keep things moving
'Til my personality starts improving
Light of the world
Shine on me
Love is the answer
Shine on us all
Set us free
Love is the answer
^My favorite England Dan & John Ford Coley song.
I think their version's just fine, but I prefer the Todd Rundgren/Utopia original.
^Not bad. A different version than I'm used to.
That's perfectly understandable.

Your favorite Utopia song is Set Me Free, am I correct? I was listening to that just the other night.
I listened to it just now. (And you have an amazing memory!)

Very interesting video. Released in 1980, it includes footage of the Shah of Iran, the hostages in Iran, and protesters being dragged away by police . . . all of which has nothing to do with the song itself, except on the most general thematic level. Yet the video and song fit in oddly well with the present situation in Ferguson, Missouri.

Ah, Braal Janitor posted lyrics by the Zombies, great band.

I also like their spinoff band, Argent:

Hold your head up
Hold it
Hold your head up
Hold it
Hold your head high

and

God gave rock and roll to you
Gave rock and roll to me
Gave rock and roll to everyone

I love Enya!

Who can say where the road goes
Where the day flows
Only time
I haven't listened to much Argent beyond their version of Time of the Season. I really should look more into their catalog.
Definitely give "Hold Your Head High" a listen. I think it's one of the greatest rock anthems of all time.
I ripped your heart out from your chest
Replaced it with a grenade blast

Incinerate [4x]

Firefighters hose me down
I don't care I'll burn out anyhow
It's 4 alarm girl nothing to see
Hear the sirens come for me
You dosed my soul with gasoline
You flicked a match into my brain
Hmm I'll check them out when I get the chance then.
You get up every morning
From your 'larm clock's warning
Take the 8:15 into the city
There's a whistle up above
And people pushin', people shovin'
And the girls who try to look pretty
And if your train's on time
You can get to work by nine
And start your slaving job to get your pay
If you ever get annoyed
Look at me I'm self-employed
I love to work at nothing all day
And I'll be

Taking care of business (every day)
Taking care of business (every way)
I've been taking care of business (it's all mine)
Taking care of business and working overtime
When you wake up in the morning
And you can't remember much about the night before
Then the lady who's beside you gets up
She goes right out and
Locks the bathroom door
And your head won't stop singin'
The phone won't stop ringin'
Your plane is gonna leave twelve-fifteen
It was close to six o'clock
Before you get to know a little dream
Look at the bangin' man
Says he can
Time after time
He'll get down, down, down
To bangin' back home

Slade, "Bangin' Man"
Well I'm remonstrated
Outdated I really want to be over-rated
I'm a finder and I'm a keeper
I'm not a loser and I ain't no weeper
I got the boys to make the noise
Won't ever let up
Hope it annoys you
Join the pack
Fill the crack
Well now you're here
There's no way back

Bang your head! Metal Health'll drive you mad
Bang your head! Metal Health'll drive you mad
C'mon feel the noize
Girls grab your boys
We'll get wild wild wild
Wild wild wild
I wrestle, with your conscience
You wrestle, with your partner
Sittin' on a window sill, but he
Spends time behind closed doors

Check out Mr. Businessman
Oh, ho ho
He bought some wild, wild life
On the way to the stock exchange
Oh, ho ho
He got some wild, wild life
Wild boys
Never lose it
Wild boys
Never chose this way
Wild boys
Never close your eyes
Wild boys
Always shine

- Duran Duran, Wild Boys
Like a true natures child
We were born
Born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die
Born to be wild
Born to be wild

Jungle life
I'm far away from nowhere
On my own
Like Tarzan Boy
Hide and seek
I play as I rush 'cross the forest
Monkey business on a sunny afternoon
Jungle life
I'm living in the open
Native beat
That carries on
Burning bright
A fire that blows the signal to the sky
I sit and wonder does the message get to you
OWA-OWA-OWA-OWA-OWA-OWA
OWA-OWA-OWA-OWA-OWA-OWA
OWA-OWA-OWA-OWA-OWA-OWA
OWA-OWA-OWA-OWA-OWA-OWA

Baltimora, Tarzan Boy
I met you on somebody's island
You thought you had known me before
I brought you a crate of papaya
They waited all night by your door
You probably wouldn't remember
I probably couldn't forget
Jungle love in the surf in the pouring rain
Everything's better when wet

Jungle love it's drivin' me mad
It's makin' me crazy
Jungle love it's drivin' me mad
It's makin' me crazy
I love black and white
Dreamy black and white
You love black and white
Run runaway

See chameleon lying there in the sun
All things to everyone
Run runaway

If you're in the swing
Money ain't everything
If you're in the swing
Run runaway

See chameleon lying there in the sun
All things to everyone
Run runaway

If you got a crush
Don't beat around the bush
When I've got a crush
Run runaway

See chameleon
Lying there in the sun
All things to everyone
Run runaway

Oh, now can't you wait
Love don't come on a plate
Oh, now can't you wait
Run runaway

See the chameleon
Lying there in the sun
All things to everyone
Run runaway

Run runaway
Run runaway
Run runaway

Let us be lovers,
We'll marry our fortunes together.
I've got some real estate
Here in my bag.

So we bought a pack of cigarettes,
And Mrs. Wagner's pies,
And walked off
To look for America.
"Kathy", I said,
As we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh,
Michigan seems like a dream to me now.

It took me four days
To hitch-hike from Saginaw.
"I've come to look for America."

Laughing on the bus,
Playing games with the faces,
She said the man in the gabardine suit
Was a spy.

I said, "Be careful,
His bow tie is really a camera."
"Toss me a cigarette,
I think there's one in my raincoat."
We smoked the last one

So I looked at the scenery,
She read her magazine;
And the moon rose over an open field.
"Kathy, I'm lost", I said,
Though I know she was sleeping.
"I'm empty and aching and
I don't know why."

Counting the cars
On the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all come
To look for America,
All come to look for America,
All come to look for America.

"America" – Simon & Garfunkel
I get knocked.
But I get up again
You're never gonna keep me down.

I went out and did my head I came home and thought about you
I saw the world turn red I picked off my new tattoo
I cut out pictures of days on end
I tear up paper and wait for Martian Saints to descend

I woke up in a shallow sweat I went back to sleep again
I walked around my room I called up my ex-boyfriend
I said you're the reason I'm in this mess
When they show up I'll give the Martian Saints your address

I see them flying round the mirror
I know they're coming for me soon

Now I play my favorite tune I bemoan my lonely fate
My last few days on earth spin in this stateless state
And I hear the engines above the trees
You tell the people about the Martian Saints for me

You're older than you've ever been and now you're even older
And now you're even older
And now you're even older
You're older than you've ever been and now you're even older
And now you're older still
Time Is marching on
And time Is still marching on
This day will soon be at an end and now it's even sooner
And now it's even sooner
And now it's even sooner
This day will soon be at an end and now it's even sooner
And now it's sooner still
You're older than you've ever been and now you're even older
And now you're even older
And now you're even older
You're older than you've ever been and now you're even older And now you're older still

Older” – They Might Be Giants
You'll be safe here
From the sheer weight
Of your doubts and fears
Don't talk back
Just drive the car
Shut your mouth
I know what you are
Don't say nothing
Keep your hands on the wheel
Don't turn around
This is for real
Kids wanna be so hard
But in my dreams we're still screamin' and runnin' through the yard
And all of the walls that they built in the seventies finally fall
And all of the houses they built in the seventies finally fall
Meant nothin' at all
Meant nothin' at all
It meant nothin
Hey Joe, where you goin' with that gun of your hand
Hey Joe, I said where you goin' with that gun in your hand, oh
I'm goin' down to shoot my old lady
You know I caught her messin' 'round with another man
Yeah, I'm goin' down to shoot my old lady
You know I caught her messin' 'round with another man
Huh! and that ain't cool
Huh hey hoe, I heard you shot your mamma down
You shot her down now
Hey Joe, I heard you shot your lady down
You shot her down in the ground yeah!
Yeah!
I want a girl with uninterrupted prosperity
Who uses a machete to cut through red tape
With fingernails that shine like justice
And a voice that is dark like tinted glass
It's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate
It takes guts to be gentle and kind
Got home from camping last spring.
Saw people, places and things.
We barely had arrived,
Friends asked us to describe
The people, places and every last thing.
So we unpacked our adjectives.

I unpacked "frustrating" first.
Reached in and found the word "worst".
Then I picked "soggy" and
Next I picked "foggy" and
Then I was ready to tell them my tale.
'Cause I'd unpacked my adjectives.

Adjectives are words you use to really describe things,
Handy words to carry around.
Days are sunny or they're rainy
Boys are dumb or else they're brainy
Adjectives can show you which way.

Adjectives are often used to help us compare things,
To say how thin, how fat, how short, how tall.
Girls who are tall can get taller,
Boys who are small can get smaller,
Till one is the tallest
And the other's the smallest of all.

We hiked along without care.
Then we ran into a bear.
He was a hairy bear,
He was a scary bear,
We beat a hasty retreat from his lair.
And described him with adjectives.

Next time you go on a trip,
Remember this little tip:
The minute you get back,
They'll ask you this and that,
You can describe people, places and things...
Simply unpack your adjectives.
You can do it with adjectives.
Tell them 'bout it with adjectives.
You can shout it with adjectives.
Yeah, this is a story of a famous dog
For the dog that chases its tail will be dizzy
These are clapping dogs, rhythmic dogs
Harmonic dogs, house dogs, street dogs
Dogs of the world unite
Dancin' dogs
Yeah!
Countin' dogs, funky dogs
Nasty dogs (Dog)

Atomic Dog
Gorillas in the jungle,
Gazelles out in the field,
Goats are in the barnyard,
And gophers in their holes....

Go! Go! Go! Go for G!
Go! Go! Go! Go for G!
You'll feel glorious, generous, gleeful and great
When you Go! Go! Go! Go for G!

Goof balls in their go-carts,
Girl scouts chewing gum,
Grandma with her gingerbread,
And the drummer plays a gong.

Go! Go! Go! Go for G!
Go! Go! Go! Go for G!

You'll feel gracious, gigantic, grateful and glad
When you Go! Go! Go! Go for G!

Grapes.

Glue.

Gyroscopes.

Go! Go! Go! Go for G!
Go! Go! Go! Go for G!

You'll feel glorious, generous, gleeful and great
When you Go! Go! Go! Go for G!
Here on Fibber Island
We strum rubber guitars
Our friends live on Mars
And we sew buttons on our cars

Here on Fibber Island
Our house is made of pie
Our dog is two miles wide
And all he talks about is pie

Here on Fibber Island
We swim on the ground
Wheels are square not round
We eat chocolate by the pound

Here on Fibber Island
(Here on Fibber Island)
No one sings along
(No one sings along)
We just ride giraffes
(We just ride giraffes)
And wear bicycles for hats
(Bicycles for hats)

To get to Fibber Island
You just close your eyes
Start fibbin' in your mind
And see what you can find

Here on Fibber Island
We hide mittens in our hair
You might need to stare
And see the mittens in our hair

Come to Fibber Island
And strum rubber guitars
Meet our friends from Mars
And sew buttons on our cars
One Saturday I took a walk to Zipperhead
I met a girl there
And she almost knocked me dead
Punk rock girl please look at me
Punk rock girl what do you see?
Let's travel round the world
Just you and me punk rock girl
I want to stand with you on the mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me
Sympathy, this is my best disguise.
My skin stepped out for my bones to dry up
For the rest of the world outside to see.
You see I, bleed on the side.
It's a part time thing, a private affair.
I try to keep it out of the light.

I must confess, I didn't recognize you tonight
Dressed up like my love.
And I hate these things but I always attend
A little sip of something to take off the edge
And I make my way through the ghosts in the room
Trying to crack a smile

And who are you supposed to be?
You look like heaven tonight
Me, I'm a tomb, a corpse in a suit,
Trying to look a little alive
Are you alright?
Cause I worry sometimes
Are you dressed up to take my life?

Keep it coming, keep it coming.

Well I think I saw you for the flash of a moment
Your broken heart and the body that holds it
I lost your scent in the flash of the party
The big bright lights, baby, constantly haunt me
I've never been right, have you ever been lied to?
I think I just saw the same scars upon you
Is this a disguise? Or a masquerade for me?

Keep it coming, keep it coming, keep it coming.

Who are you supposed to be?
Yeah, you look just like my love.
Who are you supposed to be?
Are you dressed just like my love?
Who are you supposed to be?
Yeah, you look just like my love.
Who are you supposed to be?
Are you dressed just like my love for Halloween?
On My Way

Lyrics from "Brother Bear"
Composed by Phil Collins
Performed by Phil Collins

Tell everybody I'm on my way
New friends and new places to see
With blue skies ahead
Yes, I'm on my way
And there's nowhere else
That I'd rather be

Tell everybody I'm on my way
And I'm loving every step I take
With the sun beating down
Yes, I'm on my way
And I can't keep this smile off my face

'Cause there's nothing like seeing
Each other again
No matter what the distance between
And the stories that we tell
Will make you smile
Oh, it really lifts my heart

So tell 'em all I'm on my way
New friends and new places to see
And to sleep under the stars
Who could ask for more?
With the moon keeping watch over me

Not the snow, not the rain
Can change my mind
The sun will come out, wait and see
And the feeling of the wind in your face
Can lift your heart
Oh, there's nowhere I would rather be

'Cause I'm on my way now
Well and truly
I'm on my way now

I'm on my way now
I'm on my way now
I'm on my way now

Tell everybody I'm on my way
And I just can't wait to be there
With blue skies ahead
Yes, I'm on my way
And nothing but good times to share

So tell everybody I'm on my way
And I just can't wait to be home
With the sun beating down
Yes, I'm on my way
And nothing but good times to show
I'm on my way

Yes, I'm on my way
I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck
Sometimes the aces sometimes the deuces
It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life so it's time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a damn till you can shout out
I am what I am
I am what I am
"Oh! We're the boys of the chorus. We hope you like our show. We know you're rootin' for us. But, now we have to go."

We can't go on
Thinking it's wrong
To speak our minds
I've gotta let out what's inside

Is it love tonight
When everyone's dreaming
Can we get it right?
Yeah, well can we get it right?

Cause these are the days worth living
These are the years we're given
And these are the moments
These are the times
Let's make the best out of our lives
Even if hope was shattered
I know it wouldn't matter
Because these are the moments
These are the times
Let's make the best out of our lives

BELIEVE IT OR NOT
I'm walking on air
I never thought I could be
So FREE-EE-EE
Flying away
ON a wing and a PRAYER
Who could it be
Believe it or not, it's just me

(It's all your fault, Cleome. Otherwise, I wouldn't have thought of William Katt) wink grin
I always thought Bucky Katt should be voiced by Dennis Leary, but viva le difference I always say...
I have often dreamed
Of a far of place
Where a great, warm, welcome
Will be waiting for me
Where the crowds will cheer
When they see my face
And a voice keeps saying
This is where I'm meant to be
I will find my way
I can go the distance
I'll be there someday
If I can be strong
I know every mile
Will be worth my while
I would go most anywhere
To feel like I belong
I am on my way
I can go the distance
I don't care how far
Somehow I'll be strong
I knew very mile
Will be with my while
I would go most anywhere
To find where I belong

I think Denis Leary is a talentless slime-ball who should be decapitated by le guillotine. As you say, viva le difference.
You gotta' remember though: Bucky is the villain of the comic strip who fancies himself the hero. (Plus he once got his a** beat by a chicken.) lol
When you find yourself in danger
When you're threatened by a stranger
When it looks like you will take a lickin'
(Bawk, bawk, bawk, bawk)
There is someone waiting
Who will hurry up and rescue you
Just call for Super Chicken
(Bawk, awk)
Fred, if you're afraid you'll have to overlook it
Because you knew the job was dangerous when you took it
(Bawk, awk)
He will drink his super-sauce
And throw the bad guys for a loss
And he will bring 'em in alive and kickin'
(Bawk, bawk, bawk, bawk)
There is something you should learn
If there is no one else to turn to

Now you've done it. I didn't remember this one and had to look it up. I know I watched George - George - George of the Jungle (Watch out for that Tree!) but I still don't remember Super Chicken. Having listened to the opening theme on Youtube I had to see if they had any episodes and they do. Here goes some more of my life... "soft-headed - er - soft-hearted guards"
George, George,
George of the Jungle,
Lives a life that's free.
(Ahhhhhhhh)
Watch out for that tree!

When he gets in a scrape,
he makes his escape
with the help of his friend,
an ape named Ape.
Then away he'll schlep
on his elephant Shep
While Fella and Ursula
Stay in step...with

George, George
George of the Jungle,
Friend to you and me.
(Ahhhhhhhh)
Watch out for that tree!

Watch out for that--
(Ahhhhhhhh)
Treeeee....

George, George
George of the Jungle
Friend to you and me!
My ex-man brought his new girlfriend
She's like "oh my God", but I'm just gonna shake it
And to the fella over there with the hella good hair
Won't you come on over, baby, we can shake, shake, shake, yeah oh
'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate (haters gonna hate me)
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off
Heartbreakers gonna break, break, break, break, break
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake (the fakers baby)
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off

- Taylor Swift, "Shake It Off"
When you feel all alone
And the world has turned it's back on you
Give me a moment please to tame your wild wild heart
I know you feel like the walls are closing in on you
It's hard to find relief and people can be so cold
When darkness is upon your door and
You feel like you can't take anymore
Let me be the one you call
If you jump I'll break your fall
Lift you up and fly away with you into the night
If you need to fall apart
I can mend a broken heart
If you need to crash then crash and burn
You're not alone
