Okay, so I'm on Amazon.com, ordering Paula Abdul's Greatest Hits (don't ask), and they gave me the option of also ordering the greatest hits of... Tiffany. Ummm... you mean she released more than, like, three songs that got on the charts? Seriously? Wow. Maybe I should go look for Gerardo's Greatest Hits next
I'm actually amazed that Paula Abdul has enough to fill up an album. Is it like every song she released?

Plus a few I've never heard of
and a few album fillers too....
Geez, next you're all going to be bagging my purchase of "Martika's All-Time Smash Hits."

I'm sure it's a great CD.
Toy Soldiers (Single Version)
Toy Soldiers (Radio Edit Version)
Toy Soldiers (DJ Dizzy Mix)
Toy Soldiers (Club Mix)
Toy Soldiers (Smoking Hot Mix)
Toy Soldiers (Turbo Remix)
Oh, plus "I Feel The Earth Move"
Actually, did she have any more hits than those two? I honestly can't think of any, but that hardly means anything.
Don't forget "Toy Soldiers: Unplugged"

And don't forget the acapella verion of Toy Soldiers!
I hear Alannah Myles is releasing "Black Velvet: the Greatest Hits" soon as well!
Is that the same "I Feel The Earth Move" that Carole King wrote in the 70's?
I didn't realize Martika covered that. Oh, Toy Soldiers. That's up there with other 80's one-hit wonders such as Vanilla Ica and A-Ha!
Off the top of my head, I can think of enough Paula Abdul hits to nearly half-fill a cd-- (Straight Up, Cold Hearted, Forever Your Girl, Rush Rush) so I'm not surprised about her cd.
Tiffany's other hit was 'Could've Been'. Did she HAVE any other singles...?
And you guys quit slammin' Martika! Yes, her other chart hit was the remake of 'I Feel The Earth Move' (and nicely done I thought) but she wrote 'Toy Soldiers' herself and it was a number 1!

Yeah, then there's "Opposites Attract", and THAT'S IT! Okay, there might have been a couple of more hits I'm forgetting, but eight or nine total at best. Pretty short for a cd...
Yeah, like "Promise of a New Day" and "It's Just The Way That You Love Me." :-)
I can't BELIEVE I can remember that many Paula Abdul songs.
Personally, I'd take Martika over either Paula Abdul (whose only song I **liked** was COLD HEARTED, 'cuz of the killer video and the bitchen rap she does in it) OR Tiffany the Playboy Bunny!
These are the songs on Paula's greatest hits:
1. Straight Up
2. Cold Hearted
3. Forever Your Girl
4. Way That You Love Me
5. Knocked Out
6. Opposites Attract
7. Bend Time Back Around
8. Rush, Rush
9. Promise of a New Day
10. Blowing Kisses in the Wind
11. Vibeology
12. My Love Is for Real
13. Crazy Cool
14. If I Were Your Girl
15. Megamix Medley
16. Crazy Love
I've heard of the first 11
Okay, so I remember 1-6, 8 and 10. 11 and 13 sound familiar, but I can't think of how they go...
KNOCKED OUT is probably my second favorite.
i have MARTIKA's 'The Best Of' cd !!!
she must have released more singles in the UK, because i remember alot of them [ i did like her though, so perhaps, thats why i know them ]
here they are:
'Toy Soldiers'
'I feel the earth move'
'More than you know'
'Water'
then there were the PRINCE ones ...
'Love ... thy will be done'
'Martika's Kitchen'
'Spirit'
and a couple of others ...
remember any of them ??
Matthew.
I must have been in a "greatest hits" kinda mood last week, cuz I ended up buying hits collections for:
John Michael Montgomery
Dusty Springfield
Lesley Gore
Ricky Martin
Barbara Mandrell
Andy Gibb
Cyndi Lauper
Helen Reddy
Phew! That's a lotta hits!
hey !!!
what about TAYLOR DAYNE !!??
i have her Greatest Hits, also ....
Matthew.
has anyone in the US heard of a group called 'FIVE STAR' ??
they were pretty big in the UK in the late 80's !!
in fact they were my favourite group !!
Matthew.
so does anyone have any DEBBIE GIBSON ??
i remember back in the day, that you liked either Debbie or Tiffany !!
a bit like Britany or Christina [ now ... ]
Matthew.
I do seem to vaguely recall MARTIKA'S KITCHEN. I think by the time she started collaborating wth Prince, the 'Purple Phenomenon' which spawned hits for Vanity 6, The Time, Apollonia 6, The Family, Sheila E, Sheena Easton and others was starting to fade here...
As for Debbie Gibson, I liked ONLY IN MY DREAMS a lot and she wrote it. Points in her favor!
Sorry guys, that's Deborah Gibson now.

You know... for some reason I have the impression that, unlike most of the others mentioned in this thread, TAYLOR DAYNE
should have a greatest hits cd. Only I can't remember
any of her songs.
Well, two that come to mind are
Tell It To My Heart and
I'll Always Love You. I know there are more, but I'm drawing a blank

'Tell it to my heart'
'Prove your love'
'Love will leave you back'
'With every beat of my heart'
'I'll be your shelter'
'Heart of stone'
'Can't get enough of your love' [ Barry White cover ]
'I'll wait'
'Say a prayer'
remember any of them ??
Matthew.
Love will lead you back
Someday I just know that
Love will lead you back to my arms
Where you belong
As sure
Sure as stars are shining
One day you will find me again
It won't be long
One of these days
Our love will lead you back...
-A song I've always liked a lot.
anybody remember a group called WILL TO POWER? They did a cool cover of Lynard Skynard's FREEBIRD mixed with Frampton's BABY I LOVE YOUR WAY. Well, I always liked it. The Skynard fans around here hated it. They also did a cover of I'M NOT IN LOVE which I enjoyed.

yeah !! i remember them !!
their song was out the same time as BOY MEETS GIRL with 'Waiting for a star to fall' !!
remember that ??
Matthew.
Yes, though I'd forgotten all about it...!
Okay, so who here liked Milli Vanilli? I liked 'Girl You Know It's True' well before I ever saw the video. It's a shame they were too embarassed to use the actual vocalist's image in the videos. He wasn't THAT fat...! The other MV song I liked was 'Baby Don't Forget My Number'.

i think there was one called 'Blame it on the rain' ?? i quite liked that one ....
what about THE JETS and 'Crush on you' ???
Matthew.
I LOVED the Jets!
Make It Real and
Cross My Broken Heart were my two favorites of their songs. I have their greatest hits collection, but only on cassette
I totally lusted after one of the brothers in that group. His name escapes me at the moment (after all, I wanted to do him, not date him
), but I think he was the only brother with light colored hair (I think it might have been reddish).
all i remember about THE JETS were, there was about 7 of them, and they were all brothers and sisters [ and were two of them twins ?? ]
and they were really young ??? was the lead singer about 13 or something ....
Matthew.
They were all brothers and sisters, the Wolfgramm family. They ranged in age from around 13 to around 19, I think. The one I liked, Eugene, was only in the group for two years, and the rest continued on throughtout the 80s. They have recently gotten back together as Jett17 (I think), but with a different lineup. A few of the originals have been joined by some other relatives (cousins and such)
Guess who did a web search after her last post?
I loved you
You didn't feel the same
Though we're apart
You're in my heart
Give me one more chance
To make it real....
Okay, anyone remember ATLANTIC STARR and their 2 memorable hits:
Secret lovers
That's what we are
We try so hard to hide
The way we feel
'Cause we both belong
To someone else
But we can't let go
'Cause what we feel
Is oh so real, so real, so real
and the even bigger
Ooooh you're like the sun
Chasing all of the rain away
And when you come around
You bring brighter days
Youre the perfect one
For me and you forever will be
And I will love you so
For always
MAN, did I love those songs!!!! Do they have a greatest hits I can buy?
Don't get me wrong: there's alot of today's music that I love, but there was just something about the music of the 80s. It was fun, it wasn't overly "complex" and "meaningful", but it just made ya feel good and want to sing along
I just recently found a local radio station that features a gruntload of 80s music. Needless to say I've been listening to it every time I get in my car.
Yeah, even "99 Red Balloons" is somehow more uplifting than most of what we get today. There just seemed to be more, I don't know, spirit(?) passion(?) to the music then.
[Hey! I finally made it to Candidate!
]
^Yeah, I just read the lyrics for both versions of 99 Luftballoons for the first time (since I had never heard the English version, and I don't know German), and Gob is it depressing! Never would have thought that such an upbeat sounding song would be so dark.
Quick poll:English or german version, which do you prefer?

The German version. I also prefer the German version of Du Hast by Rammstein. German songs lose their flavor when you hear the lyrics in English.

yeah !! i remember them "ALWAYS" was a big favourite of mine at the time ...
Matthew.
I also prefer the German version of "99 Luftballoons." It's a very different tale than the one in the English lyrics. (Example: The war in the German version lasts 99 years!)
I also liked Falco's original German version of "Der Kommissar" better than the After The Fire remake in English.
Drah di net um (uh, oh)
Ja Ja, Der Kommissar geht um
An early 90s group that doesn't get enough respect:
TECHNOTRONIC!
I *know* they had 3 hits, but can only remember 2...
SHAKE THAT BODY (which got huge exposure in a commercial Cindy Crawford was in)
PUMP UP THE JAM
-- What was the third? Please help, it's driving me crazy!
FYI-
I didn't know Technotronic was still around, but they just had a new CD reviewed in a gay mag here (it got a poor review).

German -- I like singing lyrics that I have no idea what they mean (except for "Captain Kirk" hehe)
