Anyone else here watching this hilarious Tina Fey/Alec Baldwin vehicle? If not you should so give it a chance. NBC.com has last weeks ep online, go check it!
Yeah! It started off uneven, with Tina Fey being too much the straight man, but Alec Baldwin and Tracy Morgan have been comedy supernovae from the very beginning. And the supporting cast is really great.
The episode with Conan O'Brien and Rachel Dratch as Little Blue Pill Boy was a particular favorite. Oh, and the empty-headed NBC page facing off with Baldwin in poker, that was golden.
Oh, and this Fey/Maloney interchange that, sadly, is all too accurate:
Maloney: How's the sex?
Fey: Quick, and only on Saturday mornings. It's perfect!
Another great line:
Baldwin: Sorry I'm late. I just got back from Ann Coulter's 60th birthday party.
BWAH-HA-HA!
I like this show a lot. I think Tracey Morgan needs more to do than just be weird though since the show has been billed as about the three of them.
I'm not getting the Tracy Morgan thing at all... He's suppose to be a bit eccentric, but he's working at it too hard.
But Tina and Alec have really come into their roles.
The few times I've tried to watch it, Morgan killed it for me. I never found him funny on SNL and I still don't.
More people here should really do their "mind-grapes" a favor and catch this show. It's the bee's knees!
So, I know the Thursday night lineup on NBC is popular around here, but never too much discussion about 30 Rock...
Did anyone see the live episode last Thurs? I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! Even funnier than COMMUNITY or PARKS AND REC this week.
The little "flashback vignettes" of live TV from the past were hilarious!
The 1950's "Chattertons Cigarettes" commercial encouraging pregnant women to smoke... (chattertons are so cool and mild! Perfect for you and your unborn child!)
And then they did a fake contemporary commercial for a class action suit against Chattertons... (If you are suffering from Chatterton syndrome, clap your feet together until your service monkey dials the number below)
J'LOVE 30 ROCK!!!!
I had no idea it already had a thread here, but now that I know I will discuss it weekly!
mr_cleome informs me that the "Chatterton's Doc" is also the voice of Archer, and Bob from
Bob's Burgers. It took me a while to get used to the pacing of this show. It hearkens back to "classic" sitcoms, but the way the jokes come at you is very different without a laugh track. (Fine with me. I never liked laugh tracks. I can decide for myself whether the joke is funny or not.) Now that I'm acclimated to how 21st Cenutry folk watch comedies, I think the show's usually pretty amusing.
Tracey works best for me when he and Jenna are in their perpetual sweepstakes to see who can be the biggest narcissist on the block. The chemistry between those two actors, in particular, is a thing of beauty.
I have demanded that mr_cleome wear that angel costume from the live episode when we finally have our "re-commitment" ceremony, but so far he doesn't seem to into the idea. [sulks]
It's high on my list of fave comedies, right up there with COMMUNITY and PARKS & RECREATION.
Hmm-- I suppose the top 5 is rounded out with COUGAR TOWN and THE OFFICE.
Newbie SUBURGATORY and MODERN FAMILY (which I just got into this season) are also lots of fun.
But 30 ROCK... yeah, it's kind of in its own style. It can be just as smart as Community and Parks, just as fast & furiously funny and heartwarming as Cougar Town.
It's really great. I hear next season is its last, and its style will be missed.
Alec Baldwin, for me, makes and breaks this show. When he's on-screen, the funny just erupts in every way--he even makes his co-stars funnier!
I don't find Tracy funny at all. Nor Jenna. As I was just saying on another thread, I love Tina Fey, but I don't find her all that funny. She works best here as the strait-woman, which she luckily gets to pull off quite a bit.
Meanwhile, the real comic brilliance of 30 rock is the rest of the cast. The writers--particularly Pete, Two-Fer and Frank--are hilarious! Jonathan, Jack's assistant for several seasons, is a contender for funniest character of the whole show! Gris is hilarious in his minimalist role, and Dot-Com has some of the best moments on the show when he's self-depreciating.
The show also has some of the best guest star spots ever. Carrie Reynolds was great. Jon Hamm was brilliant!
Is Avery Jessup the "Sophia" of 30 Rock?
Oh, my... tonight's episode was full of win.
I'm in love with baby Virginia!
NERDS!!!!!!!!!! 30 ROCK has been interrupted by a dumbass breaking news update!!!!
OK, it's back... so apparently Avery is back, Jenna's getting married and Liz needs to quit freaking out about fine-ass Chriss 'cause he's fine-ass!
I know a way Chriss can earn a million Chrisspoints from me...
Silly, there's no "h" in "Criss".
Shame on me!!! Well I will have to rewatch this, Parks and Office on HULU tomorrow because Breaking News kept interrupting.
CONFIRMED: Next season will be a 13-episode SERIES FINALE SEASON.
Stiff competition for 30 Rock's final 13 epsiode season this fall:
I, of course, won't miss a single epsisode!
A satisfyting season finale, as Liz DID NOT BAIL!!! Horray, because I LOVES me some CRISS!!!
Yeah, I know it's big with fanwriters, but I for one will be bummed out if Liz and Jack become a couple. So wrong on so many levels...
The Liz/Jack thing, no way it can happen! Though I can understand why people WANT it to happen.
The final season launched last night, and it was, as always, a delight!
