Robin can fly! Superboy has an S-shield tattoo that looks like a UPC-code! Wonder Girl wears (and IS) a hood! There's some interesting bug-looking chick and a less-interesting tar-covered girl! Kid Flash runs fast still!

Together they are-- THE TEEN TITANS!!

[Linked Image]

Grooviness levels TO BE DETERMINED!!!

Let's meet back here after we read # 1 and either bask in awe of this sexcellent new comic-- or curse ourselves for parting with our cash for such a piss-poor product!

As is well-known, there can be NO in-between! smile

If the bug-chick calls herself "The Bug-Eyed Bandit's Daughter", I suspect the grooviness level will be extremely high!

I like "Bugg-Ugh" for a name.

Active LMB character is still Beast Boy.

Red Robin with wings looks awesome.

It really makes him stand out from other Robins, from Batman and from Nightwing.

Bugg needs a new name, stat. Also, I've seen Caterina Zeta-Jones, dear, and you are no Caterina Zeta-Jones. Stop crawling around with your butt in the air.

(With Wonder Girl right behind her, it looks like 'Bugg' just got let off a leash by her dom...)

They said Robin can not fly (at comicon i think), unless they changed things, he glides or is propelled by short bursts. (seems like the new articles say he can fly shrug )

I think he should fly ... they have the technology. His name's Robin.

Tar girl ... is named 'Charcoal' IIRC .... she burns and has fire powers but she *burns black* (<--- reminds me of Hole lyrics)

Bug girl is gross.

who are those tiny figures in the background underneath tar girl and above kid flash ? Looks like XS speeding around!! .... maybe?

This is the real cover ? -->
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/06/09/dc-relaunch-cover-to-teen-titans-1/

I assume the other character there with the fists is 'The Wall' that they are talking about in this article :

I always get cranky when a new creative team creates "the newest, coolest character(s)" instead of bothering to update one of the dozens of neglected Titans of years past. I'm dumbfounded that with a Young Justice cartoon in limbo somewhere that more of those characters didn't translate into this book. It seems like such a missed sales opportunity.

Still down with Robin having wings and the logic behind it. As for the changes to Cassie, I want to wait and see. Judging from her expression on the cover, I may like Charcoal. Not sure about the other new people yet.

"Bugg" is quite possibly the worst-named character I've ever heard of in comics.

I really have to question the taste level of a writer that could come up with that.

Robin's new outfit looks really good though - possibly the best of all the DCnU designs I've seen (though that really isn't saying much).

I have decided I will be buying and reviewing--and there is no wishy washy opinions! I'll either love this like it's Tolstoy or I'll hate it like it's the 'inane five word posts thread!

I will give it a chance though. It can't be worse than the last 2-3 years of the title.

I believe Lobdell confirmed its Bart. It's definitely not Wally, as editorial loves to remind us in interviews.

I wonder if the Wally bit is some kind of subterfuge and they have something really big planned for him. Otherwise, I just do not understand the reasoning. Not when Grayson and Harper are in use.

Donny and Garth should be around, too.

The fiddle-faddle with these five is a big reason I'm so leery of the 'relaunch'.

I think DC is so determined to make fans forget what they ever liked about Barry Allen that having Wally around might remind them of a time when they actually missed Barry.

While I encourage creativity in writers, I wonder why they felt the need to create so many new characters instead of using existing ones?

This article mentioned character diversity via introducing more ethnic minorities - what about unused (and still living) Titans like Mirage, Solstice, Hotspot?

Oh well, here's hoping the new characters will last!

It does seem that making a title named 'Teen Titans' that was entirely composed of Young Justice members and new characters, instead of actual, yanno Teen Titans was part of their design intentions.

It's not like they don't have a dozen or more potential Teen Titans of ethnicity they could have used, like Hornblower/Vox or Bumblebee or Static or Hotspot or Mirage or Osiris or Aquagirl 2 or Solstice, etc., etc. all of whom actually *were* Teen Titans...

Donna Troy is the 38th most popular DC character ... according to this reader poll!

http://goodcomics.comicbookresource...arvel-comic-book-characters-master-list/

... Seems like she should be somewhere in the new DC.

(Not to mention Power Girl at number 18. )

^ Dick Grayson/Nightwing turned out to be the 3rd most popular DC character in that poll!!

Beating everyone but Bats and Supes.

and Wally West was #6 beating out (notably) Barry Allen and Wonder Woman.

At least the Legionnaires will still be appearing, unlike all those others who are in limbo frown

I wonder where the Legionnaires ranked, though. I think some of them at least made the Top 100 - my money's on Brainiac 5.

I was kinda 'meh' over issue 1, but number 2 was much more solid for me.

So I'm going to stick with it.

I liked #3-- though I think it's taking too long for the team to come together. And it's really hard to put questions about what is/is not 'history' out of my head as a reader. Bunker was pretty fun- not at all the Extrano that some feared. Well, there's a little 'Extrano' in there, but that's a good thing, when you get down to it.

Red Robin, not meaning to put together a team? Huh.

Kid Flash rescuing Solstice in parallel to Red Robin rescuing Skitter and encountering Bunker provided a well-built structure for the story.

I'm not loving this Wonder Girl. At all. Can't get past Donna's nonexistence (as far as we know to this point) or the fact that she's a car thief (who can fly!!) Is she still a daughter of Zeus? Maybe she's trying to throw Hera off her track... that, I'd buy.

I fear Wildstormization is coming, too (I realllly don't like that aspect to the new DCU. At all.)

'A' Danny who we don't see is or was imprisoned in the same place as Solstice and Kid Flash, I believe. Maybe that's Danny the Street or maybe not.

So...considering my expectations for this were WAY LOW, I'm actually kind of enjoying it so far. I like the energy to it and how it is kind of transmitting teen angst on every possible level (especially it's non-stop pacing).

No doubt it's better than the last few years of the the series. Once you get over the fact that it's made the rebooted history even more confusing, you can kind of run with it. It's arguably better than all the Justice League and Legion series.

Anyone else surprisingly enjoying this?

I enjoy Bunker. I would be a horrible liar if I didn't admit it.

But, being the snob I am, Cass Sandsmark is just becoming more and more unappealing to me.

Besides, I'm actually uncomfortable supporting this book due to all the editorial confusion. Were there Titans before them? Is this the first team? Scott Lobdell has been giving it both ways from what I've seen. Tim saying "the name just came to me" in the fifth issue after he thought "so much for this Titans team" in the second issue. Then there's the glib references Lobdell has been making in Outlaws (ew). If the Fab Five aren't in continuity anymore, I'm not supporting this.

GASP! I just read TEEN TITANS 3-4 and... DID NOT HATE THEM. In fact, they were pretty good.

I was prepared to despise Bunker for being a big ol' homo, but instead I love him and totally want to get with him!

Danny the Street plays a pretty big part of #7- with the revelation that he's been undercover for Red Robin throughout this series. I don't know if Danny's still a transvestite, though.

The clarity of his communication is a little uneven, however. In one scene, he has to use symbols to communicate... in another, it's straightforward signage. I'm not sure why.

I'm not liking 'Don't call me Wonder Girl' at all. Her attitude has to relent at some point. And the nature of her lasso is just wrong for a teenage heroine. Oh, I forgot. New DCU. Joy.

That said, I am enjoying this title and its companion SUPERBOY quite a bit.

This is just baiting fans of 'older' characters. I can't wait to read all the nauseating interviews of the writers extolling the virtues of this version of Omen. They'll probably also allude to how grateful we should be that they're bringing her back.

Maybe there's great story behind that panel and the 'sadistic' description. Maybe what made Lilith fun and distinctive will make its way into the new DCU.

This creative team has been making good use of Danny the Street. And Bunker and Solstice and even Skitter. Why on earth would they choose Lilith to be demonized? I'm hoping there's *some* redeeming feature to her return to 'action'.

But we'll all have to be prepared for there not to be. The new DCU's track record with non-Vertigo or Wildstorm 'midlist' characters ain' exactly a sterling one.

TT #8: BBBBBLLLLLEEEEECCCCHHHH!!!!!

Worst 'reimagining' evah!

Why even bother? There's the barest glimmer of a hope that something might free Lilith from Harvest's clutches, but it's remote at best.

The LEGION LOST crossover begins next week... can that redeem the horribleness of goth girl Omen and her bleeding blind eyes and awfulness?

This is from a tumblr post I made after I noticed something today.

I’ve said before that my current feelings for Lobdell hasn’t changed my opinion of Generation X. But I’ve begun to reread my collection of Gen X comics, and, looking at the ones writing by Lobdell I’ve noticed something.

Generation X Classic Vol.1 also includes Generation Next, the storyline that was part of the Phalanx Covenant story arc. Writing duties were shared by Lobdell and Fabian Nicieza. In one of the issues Lobdell wrote, he uses a member of the Phalanx called… Harvest.

“Let me tell you about ‘hope’, children. I was a human being once. My name was… it doesn’t matter. I was a man. A husband. A father. My heart was filled to overflow with hope that the world would be a better place… if I were brave enough to join the Phalanx, and rid that world of mutants. But that was when I was a carbonite. Something else else less than I am now. Now I am called Harvest. And I will not rest until all organic life on the planet Earth has been culled as chaff from the wheat.”

There’s also the fact that the Phalanx had been specifically hunting down young mutants whom they deemed to be the next generation.

I understand that Lobdell didn’t create the Phalanx, and that Harvest is, was, not the leader. There’s also the fact that it would be entirely natural, and obvious, to use farming terms when you’ve got a character named Harvest.

Nevertheless, the similarity bothered me. Here we have a character named Harvest, part of a project to hunt down young mutants and collect them for study, but whose major goal is to assimilate all human life while searching for ways to assimilate mutants. That’s Marvel. Over in DC, we have something called Harvest who is the head of an organization that’s devoted its resources to hunting down teenage metahumans and forcing them to participate in some bloody free-for-all called “The Culling”, while a certain batch become Harvest’s young hunters, the Ravagers. Possibly because of some intention on Harvest’s part that might be sympathetic, but still requires psychological torture and mind rape to break teenage boys and girls.

It would be too conspiratorial of me to admit now that Lobdell is merely copying some of what he used in Generation X now based on these two pieces of information. But I think it would be wise if some of us, myself included, took the time to carefully read over Lobdell’s run on Generation X to search for any more similarities to Teen Titans before we cry “foul”.

Or I could just be fishing for another valid reason to hate what he’s doing with the Titans and Superboy.

The new Lilith/Omen is pretty terrible... I hope she can be salvaged to the good side. Otherwise though I have been enjoying the rollercoaster ride of TT.

(I have yet to read the annual though)

Sarc, let us know if you find more evidence of Lobdell borrowing from his previous works! This is the sort of thing BLEEDING COOL is made of!

HOLY GOOD OLD DAYS!

An annual-- used as the start-off for a mini-crossover event? Drawn by the regular artist???

THIS is how annuals should be done.

Sure, the jury is still out on Lilith/Omen but overall I'm still loving TEEN TITANS.

^ Same here! The Lilith bit is a mis-step that could easily be fixed down the road, but for the most part, I'm really enjoying the heck out of Teen Titans!

I'll take the Teen Titans & Superboy series over about 90% of DC's other comics.

I'm really excited about this Culling crossover, actually. Awesome way to kick off with an annual, and adding in the lost Legionnaires is a benefit to all parties.

I keep forgetting to comment, but TT is still pretty fun. Although Skitter seems to have disappeared!

In the town where I grew up 'Skitter' was slang for diarrhea, I kid you not. It puts me off of her unfortunately.

Legion Worlds NINE - wait, there's even more ongoing amazing adventures? Yup, and you'll only find them in the Bits o' Legionnaire Business Forum.

I swear to almighty Salamander Puppy God I've been dreading the release of DC Presents #17. The fact that Joe Keatinge and RICKEN are wasting their talent on this version of Roy Harper has made me want to sob uncontrollably.

Hmmmmmm.

So no Fab Five, no Lian, Joker's Daughter is a mess, Lilith Clay is a mess, Cassandra Sandsmark is still annoying and inconsistent, and Solstice is white.

Nope, not buying it anytime soon.

I worry with all the Teen Titans reboots, we won;t get to see the issue where it's revealed that Bunker is the ancestor of Fortress Lad.

[Heard in the DC offices]

Keep throwing things at the wall!

Eventually something will stick!

.

On the upside, season one of Young Justice is up on Netflix, so I can have good Teen Titan-y AU (pre new 52!) goodness whenever I want. And eat ice cream at the same time without getting the pages sticky. So it's a win-win.

I'm not going to try the relaunch, but I am going to get the Teen Titans: Earth One OGN...which happens to have its own thread in this very forum -- hint, hint.

Thanks, Sarky. I agree with everything she said.

What's really sad, in my opinion, is that DC wasn't always this clueless. Jenette Kahn may have made some bad calls, but overall her tenure at DC (1976-2002) keeps looking better and better in retrospect.

Comparing Didio to Kahn is like comparing the Girls Gone Wild guy to Steve Jobs.

LOL lol

True, Cobie, but Kahn did nix Supergirl as Sensor Girl. Nobody's perfect.

Hey guys, I just noticed Wonder Girl's hand armor looks like Roy's god awful gold prosthetic.

Sensor Girl was a shared identity alternately used by Projectra (who technically couldn't be a Legionnaire after snapping Nemesis Kid's chicken-neck), Saturn Girl (who was technically retired) and Supergirl (who was technically dead, and had to continue hiding her true identity to not cause some temporal something or other that's very complicated and had to do with a plot against the Time Trapper, who would never see Kara Zor-El coming!).

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

Two new Titans books coming up:

Titans, written by Dan Abnett (bleah) and drawn by Brett Booth.

Teen Titans, written by Ben Percy and drawn by Jonboy Meyers.

I will not be checking either one of them out.

I've been enjoying Abnett's Wild's End. Better still, it's the characterisation that I like best, and not the subject matter, which would have got me to look anyway. If they're renumbering things again, I'll be waiting until issue 52 to take a look. Since DC are so obsessed with the figure, I'll play along smile

I'm definitely going to try Titans. I just miss that crew a lot - and the Titans Hunt book wasn't half bad overall. I particularly liked Lillith and Gnaark, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this all comes together (and yes, I will be kicking myself in a year if it doesn't - wouldn't be the first time on the Titans).

The Teen Titans? I probably won't pick up. I find the really young teams uninteresting now.
(so yes, if they make the new Legion book age-appropriate to the new Superboy, I will have a hard time with that too)
