Oh, it isn't the weight. Its the bad circulation, the bad kidneys that will follow, the loped off leg that is already damaged and will have even more problems as the disease progresses.

diabetes is a death sentence, unless you get run over by a truck first. It just likes to take its time and eat you alive slowly. Still, it takes a lot of the pressure off of not knowing,

Oh, it is right now. But its not called the silent killer for nothing. Its a disease that takes time, it doesn't kill at once like a heartattack. It takes twenty years or better to really eat away at you. And being that I'm 43...

Ah, no, LASH. They just sit there and tick away and get bigger. It kinda' goes with the territory.

Good news of a sort: I'm now several years older than my Dad was when he started to develop actual symptoms from the same illness. It probably helps that I don't smoke, like he did. Also I'm not as overweight as he was.

Cheer up, Amigo. Life is life, and then it isn't. Know this and life can be very fun. It ain't nuthin' but'ah thang.

we're all gonna die. No point in hiding under the bed about it; you'll miss out on life if you do.

our culture is seriously messed up on death. We call the deaths of extremely old people "tragedies." If you've lived a full life, that is not a tragedy. Death is a part of life, not some alien entity to be kept at bay at all costs.

We are privileged to live in a time and place relatively free of wanton death and destruction (at least in close proximity). We have the opportunities to explore life's bounties. Whether it lasts only another day or a half-century, I'm okay with that. I'm not seeking death out, but I've gotten more chanced than many, and appreciate what I've been able to dabble at.

I've nearly drowned.
My leg was crushed and I had massive infection in it.
I was moments away from death with an appendix that was only moments away from rupturing.

and then there's the numerous times that I, like everyone else in the world, didn't even know that death was around the corner and happened to turn in the other direction and never even knew it.

Life is life. you get one shot. Enjoy it.
