A few hours ago the Board seemed to have gone down for about an hour, I think, and when I came back later, the "online users" feature had disappeared. I tried other browsers but no luck.
Is it just me or...?

Sometimes the online users is disabled to try and speed up the slow connection. I'm not entirely sure about logistics-- it's mostly Nightcrawler's thing-- but usually it's just a temporary fix. :)I'

Yes. What Beth said. The Recent Visitors feature is the most stress inducing feature on the MB, and when the server is slowed (which it was for awhile) the best medicine sometimes is to turn off that feature.
It's back now.
