I was just going through my back issues and came upon the Inferno mini-series from a few years back, with Sandy Anderson confronting an evil entity and a psychedelic panda in a 20th-century shopping mall.

I seem to recall that the mini-series wasn't particularly well-received when it came out. I didn't have a hugely positive reaction when I read it for the first time, but when I flipped through it again this time, I found myself really liking the Stuart Immonen art (I've always been a fan of Stuey, though wink ), and the writing wasn't as bad as I'd remembered.

Other than the rather odd dream stuff with the giant panda, I thought the story did a good job of shedding light (so to speak) on Inferno, who had a far more complex personality than her earlier "hothead" appearances with the WorkForce had implied. Now, I kind of wish we could see more of Sandy in the present day DCU... we know she's out there somewhere.

What did/do you all think?

I never got this mini-series, mainly because Inferno didn't interest me much as a personality (not to mention 20th century shopping malls!). However, you mention that she was written as more complex person in the series - might be worth looking for then.

I bought it because it was Legion related, but didn't think I'd like it for the same reasons you stated, FC.

I was wrong. It turned out to be an interesting story and I started to like Inferno after that. I wish she had joined Young Justice. Maybe she'll become a Teen Titan.

I wouldn't mind seeing Inferno pop up again. There doesn't seem to be any high profile DC heroes with fire based powers these days are there?

All the major DCU fire-based heroes I can think of seem to be on the back burner these days (heh).

The last I saw of Inferno was in a recent Wonder Woman story arc featuring just about every female hero and villain out there -- I believe poor Sandy was encased in a block of ice by some frost-wielding baddie. Hopefully she made it out OK!

It doesn't look like DC is making too much use of the "second string" heroes floating around out there... their new titles re-package the big names (Outsiders, Titans) and/or add new faces.

It makes me wonder how folks like Inferno, CM3 (ugh, still hate that name!), and now the entire Doom Patrol spend their days...

I bet if they put Sandy in a string bikini and changed her name to Hot Chick, she could carry a book all by herself. What are the Dodsons up to since Kevin Smith bailed on them? wink

Always liked Inferno... and the mini-series was nicely drawn and well-written, but the plot... eh. Characterisation was nice, but the content wasn't. frown

Always hoped that Sandy would make it back to the 30thC, if only to have another feisty personality back in the Legion. mad

With Sensor's new attitude and the addition of Timberwolf to the ranks of Umbra and Wildfire and Ultra Boy, I think there are enough "fiesty" Legionnaires these days. Even others like Star Boy, Ferro, Triad and Shikari are showing some fiestiness these days. And of course there's Saturn Girl's newfound empowerment too (but it remains to be seen how "fiesty" it will make her).

It has always bugged me that they left her in the past to begin with. What I want to see is Brainy just pop in on her grab her by the arm and pop rite back into the 31'st century. Whether she wants to or not. All they ever use her for now is just group shots anyway, so at least if she was back in the future we might see her at least a little.

I've re-read it also, and would be very happy if she would die, die, die, in a flaming fall from great heights, preferably clutching Lori Morning closely.

No, I still do not find it particularly interesting. Even the character extensions you mention did not seem to me, unique or needed.

As long as she stays in the 21st century the existence of the character doesn't bother me.

Didn't do much for me. I liked her fine in the Team 20 stories, especially as a foil for Ferro and it seemed like a real waste of a lot of good set up to burn off a character with potential (sorry for the pun) for the sake of a weak mini with no followup.

I guess there will always be a place in my heart for dream sequences with giant talking pandas though.

I think in deep about Inferno, wich this character don't work in the Legion .
Maybe if she was a future Beauty Blaze, could' been a very good villain.
I like Sun Boy for all the things.
Kill Sandy or let she stay in the 21th century forever.
