Aside from reading an occasional issue and picking up the "Search for Oracle," I've never really read much BoP. However, I picked up the first issue featuring the new writer and new artist Ed Benes. I was impressed. The art was nice (which I expected after seeing Ed's work on Supergirl), and the storyline looks promising as well. If the quality keeps up as its started, then I'll be getting this title every month.

Who knows, maybe they'll even make me like the "new" Huntress wink

Benes is good, though for this first issue didn't look as good as his Supergirl stuff (maybe the coloring?).

I just hope that the Huntress' inclusion might mean a guest shot by The Question (maybe even alongside Blue Beetle for old times sake)

Doubt Beetle will show up for a while...he's in Formerly Known as the Justice League.

Active LMB character is still Beast Boy.

I've liked Benes' work since he was on Gen13, so I've got to say I'm happy to see him on BoP. I think he's probably my favorite BoP artist since Greg Land left. Never really cared much for Guice.

Is the inclusion of Huntress in the book temporary, or she going to be a permanent member of the team? I don't mind Huntress, but if she stays I hope they'll do something about that god-awful new costume of hers. I liked her old look much better. The new bare-midriff "cheesecake" look just doesn't seem to fit her attitude.

I'd like to see something of a revolving cast of guest stars, obviously keeping Black Canary in a pivotal role, but with help from time to time. There are dozens of good female characters lingering around in comics-limbo that could be called in cases.

I'd also like to see Ted Kord (not Blue Beetle) return to the supporting cast (after the FKAJL mini, that is). He and Barbara seemed to hit it off, and I like the idea of her having another former hero to consult with.

i've started buying 'BOP' because of ED BENES !!!

i would probably read this comic before, but just never got round to buying it, at the time of it's introduction !!!

i saw an episode of the TV series [ for the first time tonight ] i liked the little flashback/intro in the titles !!!

i would have liked to have seen the pilot episode ....

Matthew.

As a longtime BoP fan, I have to say I was a bit... taken aback by Benes' first issue.

It's been stated by previous editors and Chuck Dixon himself, the father of the Birds, that this title would never resort to cheesecake, T&A artwork. Now, we've got crotch, butt and cleavage shots peppered thru an otherwise wonderful scene scripted superbly by Gail...

I'll give Ed a few issues to settle in before I call for the torches. I seem to remember the first couple of SUPERGIRL issues had a bunch of upskirt and panty shots I thought were in questionable taste, especially with PAD's writing Kara Z with a Silver Age, gee-whiz style, but Mr. B settled down a bit by the final three issues there. I hope this is just temporary while he's getting a feel for the book.

I liked Benes more in "Supergirl" -- maybe it's becaue of the tone of the series. BoP is more "adult" in tone and Benes doesn't convey that as well as Land or Guice. And I don't know whether it was Benes' fault or the way they put the book together, but that whole "shrimp" sequence between the leads fell FLAT because the art didn't match at all what the ladies were saying -- if it were a film, I'd say it was bd acting based on their facial expressions.

I'll give it a few more issues to see if I like it (though the whole "Black Canary gets whupped by people she should be mopping the floor with and gets tortured" routine isn't winning me over).

Read issue 58 last night. I'm a bit concerned that Dinah is going to lose her canary cry again, which I think would be a terrible mistake.

Other than that bit of suspense, I'm enjoying the arc. I can't *wait* for Savant to get his!

The art is once again EXCELLENT!

And I personally love the Huntress' new look! She's tres ginchy!

I'm really not too into Lee's design with the short-shorts and the belly window (that just seems odd to me).

I really do appreciate that. And I never knew you used to run a store. Its always been a dream of mine to be able to have a comics/game store big enough for Caroline to have space for a scrapbook store.

Especially here in Utah. If you are female and don't scrapbook they treat you like a Stepford wife!

Actually, there was a great place that used to be a carlot that had a perfect building and tons of parking that I kept looking at on the way home from work. Day in and day out I'd tell myself what a great store it would make. Of course it sold to another carlot. With the house there is no way I could have swung it. But it would have been fun. Especially since SLC has only 2 comicbook stores left.
