Wow, I must say I'm somewhat surprised. And I had this really funny concession speech written up already...!
OK OK, that's the last of the jokes for this post ('til the very end, at least)...
Let me say how incredibly honored I am at having been elected Legion World Leader. Thanks so much to everyone who voted for me -- every vote was important, and I will do my best to show you that your support is appreciated, and your faith in me well-founded.
Congratulations to He Who Wanders! I have known you since my earliest days on the DC boards in 2001, and in every forum and board, your posts have been, without exception, invariably thoughtful, articulate, well-reasoned, and fair. Whether on the DC boards or here, there are very few other posters whose opinions are valued and respected as much as yours, and with good reason. I'm honored at having been given the opportunity to work with you during this term, and I hope I can continue to learn as much from you in our upcoming term, as I have in the time we've shared as posters on LW and elsewhere over the years.
To Crujectra and Eryk Davis Ester: the two of you have set a tremendous example as our inaugural Legion World Leader and Deputy. Thank you for all your service to these boards -- both in your official leadership capacities and in your day-to-day interactions. Both of you have shown that true leadership isn’t just in a title, but in all the little things you do every day to welcome a new poster, to help out with the answer to a baffling question, or just to make things on Legion World better and brighter for everybody.
In addition, a few individual thanks are in order.
First and foremost, I owe a tremendous debt to Icefire, who believed in me right from the start, when he made the opening nomination. I couldn't have asked for a better and more enthusiastic campaign manager -- and friend! I'm certain that I wouldn't have made it without your tireless and selfless efforts on my behalf, and I hope that I can return the favor someday soon!
A special thanks to certain friends (you know who you are) who convinced me to remain in the running when I seriously considered declining during the first few days of nominations. You've placed your trust in me, and had faith in me, more than anyone. And even though I've said this before, it bears repeating: your friendship is incredibly important to me. Thanks for everything.
A few words to my fellow candidates, in alphabetical order:
Crujectra -- For over three years, since before I happened upon the DC boards, you have single-handedly fostered and nurtured our little group of Legion fandom in so many ways -- by providing us with the LMBP Yahoo group as a safe haven for our thoughts and friendships, and by maintaining the beautifully-designed LMBP Outpost. One of the things I hope to accomplish during my term is to reinvigorate the Yahoo group, and to integrate the Yahoo group and Outpost into the daily functionality of Legion World in a way that mutually benefits all three venues. Thank you for your leadership, and for everything else you've done, and continue to do.
Kid Prime -- Legion World just wouldn't be the same without you. During your absence from the boards, things were a little duller, a little grayer, a little colder all around. I hope you know just how well-loved and well-respected you are -- how highly everyone thinks of you. You're the heart of Legion World, and you make this place special just by being you.
Varalent -- You are one of a small handful of people who always makes me smile when I see that you're on the boards at the same time as me. You are always full of good humor and good cheer, and, more important -- you are supportive, warm, and welcoming. Your honor and integrity are self-evident; you are a natural leader in every sense of the word.
I feel it's worth noting one more thing at this point: I wish Semi were here to share in this happy occasion. Semi, your absence is keenly felt, and you're missed more than you know. I hope you will join us again sometime soon.
As you may have gleaned from my comments above, I've taken this election very seriously -- and I take seriously my responsibilities to these boards, and to the people who call it their home. Gary, Scott, and Caroline have provided us -- at a tremendous cost to their own time -- with an incredible opportunity to have fun and to learn from each other at the same time. As a poster and as an advisor, I have tried my best to make all their selfless efforts worthwhile by helping to make Legion World friendly, funny, and fun. As Leader, I will do everything I can to help this place continue to grow and flourish for a long, long time to come.
If this were an awards show, I would have been escorted off the stage several minutes ago -- so I will wrap this up! As I mentioned earlier in another thread, I have some very interesting things planned for this term. Stay tuned!
Peace to all.
P.S. to Sanity or Madness?: please consider this an acceptance.
