I know that ONE!!! But I am not committing that sin again and be stuck once again trying to come up with a question. So I am zipping it.

There are actually TWO answers...

He was an agent of a supervillain?

And that was not one of them

He was actually another member, taking on the Jason Hart identity. This was done in order to catch the person who was impersonating his first identity on the team.

Jason Hart is the identical, and adopted twin, of Jason Todd. Hart joins the Titans after Jason Todd goes missing. He learns that Todd has been killed as Robin and looks to use the Titans link with Batman to find out why. Ironically, he's beaten to death by a crowbar wielding Duela Dent?

He wanted to protect his schoolmates from drugs?

He wanted to sell drugs to his schoolmates from Roy Harper's stash?

No, no and NO

But one of the two possible answers involves DRUGS (though none of Roy's since by this time, Roy is sober)

Jason Hart was one of the kids from the Titans drugs special. He was so impressed by Robin, he vowed to turn his life around.

Unfortunately, just before publication, Robin was retconned into being the Protector, due to previous commercial tie in commitments. Unable to deal with reality warping around him, and now with no role model, Jason Hart had a breakdown. His fractured personality impersonated each of the Titans to find out the truth behind the Multiverse.

Who can forget the Crisis of Titans epic that brought us alternate Earth issues such as: the Punk Titans; as the Young Republicans versus Brother Bliss; the searing self reflection in the alt+Romance issue: "We were Terry Long's Wingmen"? Titans International when the annoying Danny Chase got the emerald ring and became the really obnoxious Green Phantasm? And what about that finale during Ragnarok as Donna Odinsdottir helps to bring the cycle to an end, and fire sweeps across the Earth? In the reborn world, Jason Hart is healed and his destructive identity as the Anti-Titan is no more.

Jason Hart did indeed join at the drug special. He was inspired by Robin and so (of course) Jason became the Protector after his cousin died of a drug overdose

Also, Robin had to be remade as the Protector due to commercial licensing issues at the house of DC. (in one of the specials, you can still see the Robin costume underneath the Protector coloring)

Ah, so Jason Hart was The Protector. I didn't remember that. Fortunately waffling on got me the dubious victory of having to find a Titans question.

I remember thinking that The Protector was very much like a character you'd see from the Champions RPG,. Someone, who was very much like an existing character, but built by the numbers. In a good way. Of course. Perez did some of the art for Champions too, which connected it further.
