Why so silent good monsieurs?
Did you think that I had left you for good?
Have you missed me good monsieurs?
I have written you an opera!

Well, actually, more of a novel.

It has worked out to be a little over one hundred fifty thousand words. It is a little daunting, I admit.

I have an inclination to post a little scene each week, one thousand to fifteen hundred words. Two years in installments!

I should live so long.

I intend to post every Thursday or Friday without fail. You may post feedback here, or within the individual posts.

Dori Aandraison, the Rainbow Girl, has been good company during my long convalescence. Her story just sort of spun itself out.

This is the first draft, unedited, uncut.

It may become rather tedious for you.

But there is really no one else I can think of who would have any interest in it at all.

Still I hope you will enjoy Dori’s adventures in the 31st century.

This is really neat. Were any of the characters in previous threads in here? The name Chip is distantly familiar to me. Rainbow Girl is one of my favorite characters so I will be reading. I actually came up with some of my own ideas for children of Rainbow Girl, so if you ever would like to collaborate on something, please let me know!

Emily Sivana:

I imagine this will be a very different Dori than you have envisioned.

I took Mr. Johns at his word, that Dori has a mysterious connection to the Emotional Spectrum, and does not really understand her powers. More will be revealed in Book One: Chapter Three.

Dori married the wealthy Irveang Polamar, but was tragically widowed as a relatively young woman. I imagine that her love for Irveang was real, and the loss has left her heartbroken. Unable to move on to another relationship as yet, children are therefore not really part of her immediate future.

Her continuing connections with the Polamar family will be further explored in this extended fanfic.

You once expressed an interest in collaborating on a Rainbow Girl / Color Kid team-up. Unfortunately, I ended up writing a couple all by myself! Ulu will also show up in Dori’s story again some time in the future.

Dori’s turn in the U.P. Diplomatic Corps started when she teamed up with Ulu, in the matter of the Legion of Substitute Heroes and Throon. Her ambassadorial career lasted nearly a decade, but ended before the current story begins.

Come to think of it, perhaps you could point me to your list of Dori’s kids: with your permission, they might visit Earth-K as adults from an alternate dimension in a couple of years. (First Life Time)

Or, perhaps we could co-create another paracosm for Dori.

This is Dori’s story, so any appearances of other characters are only as second-tier actors. There are ten trillion Terrans in the known Galaxy, and uncounted trillions more humanoid aliens, so the chances of meeting old friends are… actually, pretty good. We will definitely be seeing a little more of the gang at Lightning Ring Farms—the extended family may be larger than you imagine!

Batch SW6 exists in this paracosm, which means there are two sets of the Three Founders, and many possibilities for permutations of generations. The Batch SW6 characters, teaming with others, eventually evolve into something similar to the Reboot Legion, known on Earth-K are ‘Legion 1.5’. At the point where our story begins, the adventures in the Kwaiverse and with Robotica have already occurred.

And, of course, in ten years or so, Pol II will go on to join Legion 2.O as ‘Magnet Boy’. But that is outside the scope of this novel.

Feel free to share about your health problems any time, Klar. If you need a listening ear to vent, I'm here.

Loved your story, Klar. The mentions of Zoe and Jazmin existing in this reality warm my heart, as are the mentions of the whole Legion 1.5.

Chip! Nice to see a part of Blok. I'm loving the scenes with the kids, always nice to see the family lives of the Legionnaires.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at Yuletide!

Also love the friendship between Dori and Lydda, so natural.

Might I also suggest you link between your two threads? That will help keep either from being buried in the forum, there is a lot of activity in Bits now smile

Please overlook the codenames; they are painful for me to look at in retrospect. I don't know what I was thinking.

I was thinking initially of doing a story involving the oldest child being kidnapped by a villain looking for the Lantern entities. Other kids at the Legion Academy would be sent to rescue him as everyone else is busy or maybe the Legion proper disbanded.

Though when I think about it a mercenary story involving the youngest son would probably be the funnest to write. I can see him sort of running away from home to join a mercenary squad. He would be a bit like Ed from "Cowboy Bebop"; the kid everyone underestimates until they need him.

The writer of fiction, no matter how edgy or unorthodox, is stuck with a simple and unalterable truth.

Literature is, inescapably, an act of seduction, whether the writher hopes to seduce millions with a story of an adolescent vampire in love, or a handful of readers, wh are willing to take a darker, stranger, more enigmatic ride.

Which involves a certain element of what I’ll call: You Won’t Believe What Happened Next.

-- Michael Cunningham, Pulitzer Prize Winner for The Hours (1998)

I realize that I am writing for a very small audience: only three or four. But I am sure that of the seven billion other inhabitants of Earth-Prime, there are very, very few-- if any-- who would be interested in my take on 'Rainbow Girl'.

So, I post here. In bite-sized chunks.

So with Book Six we finally get a super-hero battle... but it occurs "off-panel".

Well, there are plenty of other stories on the board with swell hero-on-villain action. Dori just has a quieter life.

Right now.

The Rainbow Girl series was written while I was extremely bored in Arkham the hospital between November 2014 and March 2015.

Unfortunately, it was written out longhand in notebooks provided by my grand-daughter.

It is taking me quite some time to transcribe it all into electronic format.

But hey, what better hobby for an old man to pursue?

Dori is both passionate and mercurial. She tends to throw herself whole-heartedly into an enterprise, but then will suddenly lose interest, and move on to something else.

This is why each Rainbow Girl "Book" can be read pretty much separately.

Gaal Jindrich is based on an actual person I knew back in the 1960’s.

He made his fortune during the Alaskan Gold Rush. He invested his money in a luxury retirement home and hospital. At least one of the doctors in his hospital had been poached from the local University Medical Center, and was an M.D. / Ph.D in geriatric medicine. There was a walking garden on the property with flowers and wild strawberries. The kitchen-cafeteria was open 24/7.

He and his wife planned to eventually sell their home and check themselves into their own retirement home when they were no longer able to take care of themselves. All the staff knew it.

I worked there cleaning the pool.

Well, I spent the last week in prison the hospital, for my annual bout with bronchial pneumonia.

My days were brightened by my granddaughter, who dropped by for an extracurricular lesson in poetic textual analysis, also known as “help with my homework, Grandpa”.

Bright girl. She is determined to write a poem in alternating lines of pyrrhic trimeter and tribrachic dimeter.

And the… it was… so we…
It was of, so we did.

I had debated whether or not to include the 19th & 20th century poetry in Book Nine. But that's the way it was written, that's the way it came to me, so I decided to be loyal to the creative choices of my past self.

So with Book 12, Dori tries to go back to an ordinary, mundane life. Not much super-heroing in these chapters. Move on, move on, nothing to see here.

I have a Monstress story, I, Monstress that has been percolating in my head for the past decade. This isn’t the end: I have a vague idea of what will happen in the future. (Frankenstein will join Legion 2.5, for example, which means he needs to find his way back to U.P. Space somehow.) But for the time being, we must to leave her where she is.

This is a sort of prologue to my present Rainbow Girl series, and an introduction to the ‘Earth-K’ paracosm generally:

“How It All Started”

This is how it really all started:

“Why You Don’t Want Me To Write The Legion”
http://www.legionworld.net/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=765725#Post765725

And here are a few more of my pieces set in my ‘Earth-K’ paracosm:

“The Tragic Tale of Elastic Lass”

“Whatever Happened to Fruit Boy”

“The Talok Awakening”

“The Death of Lightning Lad”

“Duplicate Boy and Shrinking Violet Have ‘The Talk’”

The following was written when I was ‘Tom Tanner Issue #1’:

TIME AND THE SILVER AGE

Lena Thorul first appeared in Superman’s Girlfriend, Lois Lane in 1961.She was Lex Luthor’s younger sister. It had already been firmly established that Luthor had been a peer and classmate of Clark Kent in Smallville. Lena was ten or fifteen years his junior. When it became apparent that Lex had become a teen-aged super-criminal, Lex’s parents disowned him, changed their last name to Thorul, and moved away from Smallville. Lena was too young to have clear memories of Lex; her parents told her her older brother had died in a tragic mountain-climbing accident.

Later, Lena was orphaned by a more mundane automobile accident.

In typical DC it’s-a-small-world fashion, the teen-aged Lena eventually became acquainted with Lois Lane (some ten or fifteen years her senior), and Linda Danvers (her peer). Eventually, she became acquainted with Superman himself. All these members of the Superman family, through some plot device I cannot recall, were aware that Lena was Lex’s sister, as was Luthor himself. This presented something of a problem, as Lena was a powerful telepath. It was necessary for them to constantly shield their minds in her presence, lest she discover her true identity. Despite mental enhancements being characteristic of her family, she was evidently not good at anagrams.

As the years rolled by, Superman, Lois, and Luthor remained the same age (29, I understand) but Lena grew up. As an adult, she married Jeff Colby, an FBI agent who was acquainted with Lex in an official capacity. Lena’s husband died of a space-disease or something, but not before they had a son, Val. Being a Luthor, he was gifted with powerful telekinetic abilities, and by 1978, Val looks to be about ten years old.

Val Colby

(There is a very cute story where Luthor breaks out of prison to secretly give his nephew a birthday present- a super-stretchy Superman cape.)

So here is ageless Lex Luthor, not yet thirty, interacting with the 10-year-old son of his fifteen-year-younger sister.

The main characters don’t age. The supporting cast does.

Van-Zee of Kandor was a distant cousin of Superman’s, who looked exactly like him. On an enlarged visit to Earth, he married Sylvia DeWitt, an Earthling heiress, (who was an exact physical duplicate of Lois Lane) who returned to Kandor with him.

Oddly enough, he also made his first appearance in Superman’s Girlfriend, Lois Lane. Van-Zee took over the original Kandorian Nightwing identity from Superman; his niece’s husband, Ak-Var, took over the Flamebird identity from Jimmy Olsen.

Sylvia and Van-Zee eventually had twins: a boy named Lyle and a girl named Lili. I guess that would be Lyle-Zee and Lili Van-Zee, using the Kryptonian naming conventions at the time. By the time Superman had finally enlarged Krypton, and created the world of Rokyn, they were (at least) pre-teens, and Van-Zee was an elder statesman in Kandor.

Meanwhile, Superman and Lois just… well nothing.

If the Silver Age Earth-1 had survived to today, Val Colby and Lili Van-Zee might be the parents of a teen-aged super-girl, one-quarter Kryptonian, with psychic powers…

The Legion aged gradually, from teens to young adults. The Bierbaums even devised a standard: two years real time was equal to one year comic time.

After the five-year gap, time really caught up with the Legion. In more ways than one.

In the Earth-K paracosm, time still marches on.

At this point in the story, (Book 15) the original Legionnaires are mostly in their mid-forties. Most of the Subs are only a few years younger.

The Batch SW6 Legionnaires appear to be in their late twenties or early thirties.

Graym, Garridan, and Ivy are fifteen or sixteen by now, and forming their own Legion.

Dori Aandraison is fifty, Ennis Jahnson is fifty-two or fifty-four.

And they will continue to age.

And of course, each character is developing a history which is increasingly hard to follow. This would not make a satisfactory comic book at all.

But I am continuing to post here because, who else would be interested?
