2017 is just around the corner -- AT LAST, AT LAST, AT LAST!!

So as we prepare to say good riddance to 201*, a year so horrible that I can't even type in all its numbers, I propose the use of this thread as a candle in the darkness who dim light shall quickly expand into a purifying, celestial, cleansing fire that will burn, burn, burn away all things 201*, wiping the slate clean for us to each make the best we can of the New Year.

And, for added emphasis, here's my girl Ellie with a song that was originally my least favorite of her early hits, but which, just a few years since it was last in constant radio rotation, has taken on new meaning on so many levels. I give you The Anthem of 2017:



I'm too tired ATM to post my plans and aspirations and ambitions, but I will do it -- oh, will I ever do it -- over the course of this weekend.

I'm pretty fond of Wendy MaHarry's "Happy Holidays" as a grumpy year-end send-off. Sadly, it's not online.

When I think of New Year's Eve, I think of this song. I caught Chumbawamba performing it live on Dick Clark's New Year's Eve special (I think), back in 1997, and it's always stuck with me.

Suits me just fine as an exit for 2016.

Thoth, I'd love to see a Cleome vs. Suddenly Seymour thread. If only someone could coax Seymour into dropping by LW.

Now then, being as I am both a wannabe rabble-rouser AND a shallow lover of kitsch (or am I a floor wax AND a dessert topping?), I am determined to have it both ways. Because I can. Just ask that taboo-shattering, gender-blurring, honorary sister, my friend & yours, Moz:



Thus, I plan to wait on starting the revolution until I look like I just stepped out of the salon. And I've found inspiration in cult-movie icon, and Goddess to playful, camp-loving brunette women everywhere, Caroline Munro!!



Her most mainstream role was as the "Bad Bond Girl" in 1977's "The Spy Who Loved Me." Her B-movie cult favorites include "Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter," "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad," and the Italo-space-opera "Star Crash," the last of which showcased her in a rare, ahead of its time, ass-kicking spacewoman leading role. Sure, she wore a costume which might have been salvaged from Mike Grell's wastepaper basket during his 70s Legion stint, but just ask any fangirl over 35 years of age -- in the 70s & 80s, beggars couldn't be choosers. (Which hopefully explains once and for all the bizarre 40-years-and-counting endurance of "Charlie's Angels." But I digress.)

Yes, ladies, tomorrow's future is today for the style-conscious middle-aged modern-day anarchist!! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, especially not the aging "Riot Grrrl" posers who sneeringly dismissed you back in the dark ages of the 90s as being a superficial, overdressed, frivolous go-getter, even though they were just as shallow and fame-hungry as you were. Get with it, girls, 42 is the new 22!!

Having mentioned "Charlie's Angels" in the previous post, I just had to post these:



^It takes WORK to have it both ways as a kick-ass heroine and an inspiration to future generations of queens (and not of the royal kind, either.)

Whatever else can be said against "Charlie's Angels", the fact remains that it inspired the only episode of "Baywatch" with even the smallest sliver of a redeeming quality. No small achievement, that.

Where IS that Seymour guy anyway? Bah! I blame FB for the disappearance of so many old-timers.

Aaanyway, just finished a delicious breakfast (tomato mocktail, 1/2 a poppyseed bagel with cream cheese, fresh coffee, and some stewed fruit). Now it's time to hit the thrift shops one last time with more stuff that needs to go.

I seriously don't know how two adults (and one cat) in one small ranch can generate this much junk in a year. At least people with kids have an excuse. Oh, well. This'll be like the fifth trip of this type I've made just since the end of October.

Poor mr_cleome's not feeling well. So I'll have to hoof/bus it. At least the items are light and should all fit into one box or shopping bag.

I don't know if anyone on here ever saw Don Bluth's "Anastasia" or if anyone has any feelings on it, or whatever anyone's feelings on "The Jetsons" film was, but here:

2016 wasn't so bad personally, relative to other recent years. Economy held. Politics was a no-win but we've been there before. Lost some family and colleagues, to be expected at my age. But, babies were born, children got older.... same ol same ol.

Plans for 2017
-Learn Russian in preparation of it becoming the new state language.
-Do a little traveling, it's been awhile. Maybe retire or resign, do something more constructive than common core.

Our fire has been all but reduced to embers. Shame, Legion Worlders, shame!!

Yeah, she's really awesome. I think I posted her version of "Ring Of Fire" in one of the threads about (good) covers once.

Ooh, will seek that one out first of any of them, then. It's one of the few Johnny Cash songs where I think he actually lives up to his reputation. To hear it sung by a woman, as well a person with a much more expansive vocal range than Cash's, should be awesome!!

FC, I honestly say I must beg to differ with the good doctor. IMHO, present, future, and past are all intertwined on levels of such complexity that the best thing to do is to make our best efforts to link together all the best things about each of them.

But, more importantly, Happy New Year to you, Legion World's own Mama Bear (on 2nd thought, I guess it would be more appropriate to call you Mama Cat.)

Either way, you are loved & treasured. And, as it's now just a couple minutes after 6 a.m. EST, I'm off to make myself coffee. Wonderful symmetry, is it not?

Being one with zen, as I am, I live only in the moment. Which often means I find myself in shops, with no idea of why I went there or what the point of it was intended to be.


Back to Starcrash. I first picked it up because it had Marjoe Gortner in it. I'd remembered him from Mausoleum* ,an early '80s horror movie. Caroline Munro being in Starcrash was an unexpected bonus.

So who would win in a barfight: Munro or Sybil Danning?

Well, let's not be hasty by holding just the one fight, cleome.

To be fair to both contestants, it should be a series of fights over a long period of time, and under varying conditions. You know, standard, every day bar environments where there's a mud or oil mishap. That sort of thing...

Sandahl Bergman would intercede and out-fight them both!! (Yes, I despise the testost-overload first Conan live-action movie (and the cheeseball second one as well), but Sandahl was so cool she almost transcended the awfulness around her.)

BTW, I personally feel that January is the worst possible time of year to make positive change that lasts more than ten seconds, but I've managed to get a few important things done since mid-December. So go, Me!
