The winner of the poll is the Towers game! So, I will create two lists of characters that will do battle with each other here in this part of Spaceopoly.
Example: Superman vs. Batman Flash vs. Green Lantern
I will probably use a randomizer to make things more interesting. If too many battles are clearly uneven, I will rearrange them to be more fair. Would you guys have a preference for teams or fights? Otherwise, I will do a Marvel vs. DC heroes game.
It was easy to create the lists, though they might be shorter than what we are used to in Idols. I decided to stick with mostly Justice League and Avengers, as those two teams line up nicely. I capped the limit of heroes to 52 each, as some are obscure and many have the same name as another character. I will add more characters if one side has ten or less in the game. We will figure out the details of choosing more characters if/when it becomes an issue. If you are unfamilar with a character, both DC and Marvel have guides available online. I find Marvel's site to be slightly more useful because they have statistics for all their characters.

Some real toughies there. Firestorm v Mister Fantastic was the toughest. But Barda v Strange; Shazam v Dr Strange, Dr Light v Valkryie and Palmer v Panther were the ones I had to think through too.
As for Super vs Thor (what a draw), I'm reminded of the JLA vs Avengers mini. I thought it was odd that Supes would come out on top in that one. Back when it was a pre Crisis idea, and Supes was moving planets around, then fine. But it was post Crisis Supes. While he had been depowered and was sniffling his way through issues, Thor was being reminded that he'd outlive everyone of his teammates over in the Avengers series.

I plan to write match commentaries on these along with the results. I loved the old (now defunct) CBUB fights and want to try to get the same level of energy.

I think what Busiek was saying (to the chagrin of Marvel fans on the internet, as this image will be shared in perpetuity), is that even at reduced Post-Crisis levels, Superman's power levels are still higher or comparable to Marvel's higher end.
I remember Supes (and some other JLA members, if I remember right) making a similar observation on another page in that mini - DC heroes tended to be a bit more powerful than their Marvel counterparts.
To the best of my knowledge, DC has never released official statistics of their characters the way Marvel has. But if we were to go by feats, yes, in general, DC super-heroes are more powerful. There is a huge chunk of characters that have what I call the "Superman powerset". Like Busiek said, that easily puts Superman in what Marvel would call the deities category. One might even argue Sky-Father level since he beat Thor.
Go with the good and you'll be like them; go with the evil and you'll be worse than them.- Portuguese Proverb
There was a panel late in the mini when the Wasp cheers that Captain America gets to lead the combined forces. Finally, there was something that went their way. I'm not sure that early post crisis Supes would have really stopped Thor. That was probably the last Supes I read at any length. So, his power levels probably crept back up again. I'd still fancy Thor to beat Doomsday though.
As for stats, the RPGs are good for that sort of thing. Even if there's not an official crossover, there's enough description in the categories so that you can move characters between systems.
"...not having to believe in a thing to be interested in it and not having to explain a thing to appreciate the wonder of it."
Re Cap leading the combined teams, that was a good scene where the League recognizes Cap's leadership abilities.
I also got a chuckle out of the Avengers marveling at how easy it was to coordinate with J'Onns's telepathy - then began to wonder why it felt so new to them. I mean, they have telepaths in the Marvel U too. Granted, 99% of them seem to be X-Men, but the Avengers have worked with them before... and they had Moondragon...
Yeah, but with Moondragon you keep getting random "My telepathy is wasted on these fools" and "My costume looks so much better, but then I [iam[/I] so much better" thoughts mixed in with it.
"...not having to believe in a thing to be interested in it and not having to explain a thing to appreciate the wonder of it."
So I spent over an hour typing nice descriptions, but my browser decided to stop working. So unfortunately, you will just get the results today. If you want to have fun and make your own descriptions, please do so, they are fun to read. Both parties will stay if there is a tie for now.

That's a shame that your browser packed in Emily. For the larger posts I use MS word and then cut and paste, after it happened a couple of times. It's very frustrating.
"...not having to believe in a thing to be interested in it and not having to explain a thing to appreciate the wonder of it."
Yes, same experience for me. It's so frustrating when you have a long, well thought out post and it vanishes... sorry, Emily. i'm sure your descriptions were great.
... long, well thought out post and it vanishes....
Well, at least I haven't had that burden.
Yeah, when we were talking about Superman class characters, I was wondering how many Marvel characters would make it through. Mister Fantastic drew a particular toughie as did Thor. But it's a good showing... but for how long?

I think it will get interesting once it gets narrowed down. If one side or the other is uneven, I will probably add more X-Men and Titans to keep repeating powersets to a minimum. It is interesting to note that most of the New Gods survived, but most of the Eternals did not (Genis-vel is half Eternal).

So, apparently we have extra DC characters, about seven. Next round I will definitely need to add a few Marvel characters in to keep this game balanced.
These get a by week until I figure out what to do: Phantom Stranger, Shazam, Faith, Green Arrow, Dr. Fate, Big Barda, and Tasmanian Devil.

Thank you for joining the game. I will keep voting open until 9:00 P.M US Central Time, then I will count the votes. There may be a day or two in between rounds because I am going to fill in blank Marvel spaces with X-Men characters.

Here is the results! The bold ones are the winners. A fair warning that I expect to edit this post so I can access how many leftover DC characters we have left. I may also embellish the results with match synopsis. If you have a synopsis in your head, please share it and I will include it in this post.
Round 2
Kyle Rayner vs. Justice Kyle Rayner's experience with telepathy in the Justice League allows him to fight off Justice long enough to create a trippy prison with his ring. Art School paid off big time for this hero. Flash (Barry) vs. Wonder Man Wonder Man spends too much time pandering to the audience that he loses site that this is a real fight. Flash(Barry) literally has time in his hands and runs circles around him. Once Wonder Man realizes how tough his opponent is, he tries his best to fight, but it is hard to punch something one barely sees. The lack of speedsters in Marvel gives the Flash(Barry) another huge advantage over his opponent, as his power-level would put him close to Eternal level. Atom (Palmer) vs. Wolverine The various fights with and against the Avengers give Wolverine a good idea of what he is dealing with. It is hard for Atom(Palmer) to hide as Wolverine's keen senses prevent him being surprised. The ear-drum trick doesn't work in this case because Wolverine forces him to one-on-one combat in his normal form. Wolverine's training and powers are more than a match for Justice League training if one is relatively powerless. Rogue vs. Firehawk War Machine vs. Gypsy Quasar vs. Mary Marvel Hal Jordan vs. Yellow Jackey (Pym) John Stewart vs. Genis-vel --I want to note that Genis-Vel once destroyed the Universe. I'm unsure it was a Cosmic cube episode. Zatanna vs. Invisible Woman Superman vs. Black Panther Hellcat vs. Batman Beast vs. Cyborg- TIE, Both Remain in Game Power Girl vs. Monica Rambeau Wonder Woman vs. Adamantium Man Hawkeye vs. Booster Gold Manitou Raven vs. Hercules Plastic Man vs. Hulk Mr. Miracle vs. Iron Man Aztek vs. She-Hulk- Aztek was not selling any moves, which made She-Hulk extremely angry. She was so angry that she decided to kick him around a lot. After the match, she apologized to the fans for the poor performance. I picture this as our version of the Inoki vs. Great Antonio march. Go and watch it if you are unaware of it, it is a crazy stomp match. Steel vs. Black Widow- TIE, Both Remain in Game Elongated Man vs. Ms.Marvel Black Lightning vs. Firestar Red Tornado vs. Spider-Man- Match Synopsis by Quislet Esq. Reddy to win. He can attack Spiderman from a distance, remaining out of reach of Spidey's strength and webshooters. Spiderman would not be able to stand up to the tornado winds Red Tornado can generate. Blue Beetle vs. Captain America Dr.Light II vs. Captain Mar-vel Firestorm vs. Namor --I thought this would be close due to Namor's fights with Human Torches (yes I meant plural) Martian Manhunter vs. Scarlet Witch
Our Extra DC Seven Phantom Stranger, Shazam, Faith, Green Arrow, Dr. Fate, Big Barda, and Tasmanian Devil
My count is 15 Marvel and 27 DC characters remaining. I will be adding an additional 12 Marvel characters to keep the game balanced for now. If you have any other ideas (such as tag team matches) to keep the game moving, please let me know.

I have made some edits to my post, including adding Quislet Esq's match synopsis. If my count is off, please let me know ASAP. I will probably go down the X-Men list of appearances and try to match with who we have left. I have to remember to exclude beings like Phantom Stranger from future Towers Games because they are hard to defeat.

You are correct. Well, at least it will make it easier for me to even it out. I will add the five original X-Men and Professor X to the list and reshuffle the list today or tomorrow.
This is our new list of Marvel characters. For the sake of simplicity, the X-Men's powers and experience are that prior to the pivotal Giant Sized X-Men. This Jean Gray is pre-Phoenix. Note that since Beast was already in the game, I have replaced him with Banshee. The version of Beast currently in the game is that of his most recent appearances. As a general rule of thumb, powers and abilities are at most recent appearance for all characters in this game unless otherwise noted. If you have further questions about character versions, please feel free to ask. We will be doing a Preparation Round after this to spice things up.

Hal Jordan - has fought telepaths before; has the willpower to resist Professor X long enough to take him out Batman - Batman surely has a plan for beating Green Arrow, and Hawkeye isn't much different Steel - Steel's armor can take a couple of hits, and his hammer gives him a good long-range weapon to take Cykes out Green Arrow - if this were Archangel, I'd give it to Warren. But Ollie has enough toys to take out someone who can just fly John Stewart vs. Captain Mar-vel - I have faith in John and his ringslinging Dr. Fate - magic over Herc's muscles; there are many ways Dr. Fate can take Herc out Kyle Rayner - Kyle smashes through Bobby's ice constructs with his GL ring Wonder Woman - Diana can lasso Rogue and take her out before Rogue even gets near Faith - I know Jean was powerful, but Faith once threw an alien armada out of a galaxy. And she has this good vibes power to boot. Zatanna - "pn erom srewop!" Sorry Carol, you're powerless. Superman - no contest. Flash (Barry) - Barry is too fast for War Machine to get a hit. Barry forms a cyclone to pull War Machine to the ground... Phantom Stranger - one wave of his hand, and Wolverine is toast Banshee - poor Taz goes down before he gets near Firestorm - long-range nuclear blasts and transmutation beat Beast down Martian Manhunter - too many powers. sorry Hulk Mary Marvel - Mary is too durable for Firestar, I think. Cyborg - too many gadgets for Natasha to handle Red Tornado - Reddy blows Cap away before he can get close Monica Rambeau - Barda's tough, but she's not invulnerable... Shazam - way stronger than She-Hulk, sorry

Yes, I'm kind of dreading the vote tally. I hope I don't have to re-balance the teams again. When I put this together, I was hoping we would more or less have even eliminations until the last few rounds. Part of me wonders what would have happened if I did a Villains version of this, as more Marvel villains seem to have powers.

Hi everyone, sorry once again you get the bare minimum as my internet clunked out at the worst time. Fortunately, I at least saved all the scores. Feel free to add your own synopsis, I will add more as we discuss. It is hard for me to write realistic blow-out fights, as they aren't as entertaining in my opinion.
I feel like most of the matches I am making are relatively equal so I am confused by the results...if anyone has any better suggestions for matching let me know.
Hal Jordan 3 vs. Professor X 3- TIE Batman 6 vs. Hawkeye Steel 4 Cyclops 2 Green Arrow 6 vs. Angel John Stewart 6 vs. Captain Mar-vel (I need to start voting as I disagree with this) Dr.Fate 6 vs. Hercules Kyle Rayner 5 Iceman 1 Wonder Woman 5 Rogue 1 Faith 1 Marvel Girl(Jean Gray) 5 Zatanna 4 Ms.Marvel 2 Superman 6 vs. Iron Man Flash (Barry) 6 vs. War Machine Phantom Stranger 4 Wolverine 2 Tasmanian Devil vs. Banshee 6 Firestorm 6 vs. Beast Martian Manhunter 5 vs. Hulk 1 Mary Marvel 6 vs. Firestar Cyborg 3 vs. Black Widow 3- TIE Red Tornado 3 vs. Captain America 3- TIE Big Barda 2 Monica Rambeau 4 Shazam 6 vs. She-Hulk

I guess I will have a mini DC vs. DC towers game inside of this one in order to keep the game going. Would anyone object if I just remove Phantom Stranger? I feel like he is just going to win if I do not. I should have excluded all top-tier entities from the game.

Cool, thank you for the swift responses. By my count, we have nine extra DC characters, so I think I will do three matches of three. Example: character 1 vs. character 2 vs. character 3. In WWE terms, a small Battle Royale.

After removing Stranger, I count 11 more DC characters (17-6).
I'm thinking of just putting all the remaining DC characters in a real Battle Royale then, and letting who you think the six remaining ones would be. If that doesn't sound like a good idea, I will side-step the voting process and just eliminate the extras through Random.

Royal Rumble Time! Please choose the top six that would survive a fight against the odds. This is in a neutral arena setting, so now powers should have an unfair advantage.
Hal Jordan Batman Steel Green Arrow John Stewart Dr.Fate Kyle Rayner Wonder Woman Zatanna Superman Flash (Barry) Firestorm Martian Manhunter Mary Marvel Cyborg Red Tornado Shazam

I have decided instead of picking between two Green Lanterns, to let Shazam advance instead in order to avoid debate. Both Green Lanterns are very powerful but they have extremely different styles. I will probably use Random tonight to start the next round later today. The Results are as Follows: Poll Results Kyle Rayner Wonder Woman 4 Zatanna 2 Superman 4 Flash (Barry) 2 Firestorm 3 Martian Manhunter 3 Mary Marvel 1 Cyborg 1 Red Tornado Shazam 2
After this, the Semi-Finals! Hmm, no street-level characters left for the DC side.

Zatanna Prof X (Diana has been susceptible to telepaths before) Shazam Martian Manhunter Monica Rambeau (she can always turn into red sunlight... even if she doesn't figure out Supes' weakness right away she can remain in energy form) Firestorm
It is clear from preliminary votes that DC will win over Marvel. The question arises on how we wish to end the game? Would you like a one-vs-one battle for sake of completion or just to end it?
Go with the good and you'll be like them; go with the evil and you'll be worse than them.- Portuguese Proverb
Ok, we will do one on one battles then. I will start with these:
Superman vs. Professor Xavier Shazam vs. Zatanna Martian Manhunter vs. Firestorm
I will have to end this round Saturday night as I am leaving for vacation on Sunday. You guys can do mini-Towers or bonus rounds if you want to continue. This has been a lot of fun, and since the thread title is generic I might just keep using it.

These are the results per my count. At this stage, I just use a notepad and count what people post (which is probably why I get the most errors).
Superman 2 Zatanna 3 Firestorm 1 Martian Manhunter 3 Shazam 1 Professor X 2
So the next 'official' matches would be: Martian Manhunter vs. Professor X and Superman vs. Zatanna. For the sake of time, if a Moderator wants to speed this up and run it without me, feel free. Otherwise, you can use this thread for other fights until I return. I will be in an area with little Internet access for a week.

Superman vs. Professor X - tie - both advance Zatanna vs. Shazam/Captain Marvel - 3-1 in favor of Zatanna Martian Manhunter vs. Firestorm - 3-1 in favor of J'Onn
Next:
Martian Manhunter vs. Professor X Superman vs. Zatanna
Vote for your picks for the two matches!
I think we can keep this open until you return, Emily. I think you should have the honor of closing this round =) Although, there WILL be a round after this...
Martian Manhunter (his telepathy is enough to blunt Prof Creepy until he can use Martian vision) Superman (just one blast of superbreath/ heat vision is enough to catch out Zee before she can say a meaningful spell.)

Martian Manhunter Superman (While her power level fluctuates with the needs of the story, her "Typical" elemental combat magic wouldn't be enough to effectively counter Supes long enough to put him down)
Thank you for running the game in my absence. Here are my votes:
Martian Manhunter vs. Professor X- Professor X, even alien empresses respect his power Superman vs. Zatanna- Zatanna, as she has more versatility. I like his museum in Metropolis though.
I will keep this thread open until 10:30 P.M tomorrow night (Central US Time)

I went to bed early last night, so here are the results now.
Martian Manhunter 5 Professor X 1 Zatanna 3 Superman 3
DC won the Towers game a long time ago, so what remains is to have one winner per the fans (that is you) requests. I think the best way to resolve the current situation is a three person brawl.
Martian Manhunter vs. Zatanna vs. Superman
Remember that two of these could team up against a third before turning on each other.

Martian Manhunter took down Ultraman in moments in Earth 2, and the Martian prevails despite some heat vision injuries. But a moment is all Zee needs to summon up a wall of fire. The Martian may escape from it at super speed, but that just gives Zee the chance to emulate something she picked up from the Scarlet Witch back stage... "No More...Martians." And that's the end of that. Zee for the win.

I give it to Martian Manhunter. I think Both J'onn & Z would see Supes as the main threat and would both go after him. As I said before Supes is vulnerable to magic, so Zee would take him out. Meanwhile J'onn could use his telepathy to scramble Z's thoughts so she could not cast a spell against him.
Martian Manhunter for the win. he turns intangible, then before Zatanna can cast magic he telepathically shuts her down. He can then do the same to Superman at his leisure.
I was going for the Skrull vote actually "Vote for an Evil You Can Trust!" as it says on their election bumper stickers. Besides, Marvel got a bit of a beating in this one.

Looking good for Martian (drop me from the JLA will you?) Manhunter.
To be fair. In the early JLA stories he wasa second rate Superman and pretty much only used his Martian Breath. He bacame a much better character when writers started focusing on his Shapesifting and telepath.
Ah those early JLoA tales when Fox and Sekowsky focused on Martian Breath. JLoA versus the Mint Master! When Holly Tosis Betrayed the League! The Crown Caps Injustice! All classics.

Thank you all for your participation, time, and patience! I will be taking a short, probably about a month, break from running any games. If any of you wish to run a Tournament or Idol please feel free to do so. I only ask that if any of you would want to go straight to our Legion of Doom (Justice League Villain) Idol, to please consult me first as I know where to find a good list.
