So, along with Convergence, the Infinitus saga which appeared in Justice League United a while back is probably the most significant Legion appearance since the last Legion book's cancellation.

I skipped it for a number of reasons, one of which was possibly waiting for the trade. Another reason was the kind of "meh' reaction, at least to the first few issues.

So.....was it any good? Worth at least hunting down a bargain copy on eBay? Pluses? Minuses? The good, the bad, the ugly?

Spoil as much as you want--I can take it! I need to make an informed decision, dammit!!!

I borrowed the trade from the library a few months ago, and, quite honestly, I only remember one thing -- how much I disliked Alanna Strange's new 'do (but I do recognize that that sort of thing has been one of my own hang-ups for my whole life.)

So, probably not so much bad as mediocre and forgettable.

I'm with Fanfie. By the time I finished the issues I couldn't even remember how they started. Totally forgettable for me. I bought and read them all and couldn't tell you one thing about it other than it had Adam Strange, Alanna, Hawkman and Animal Man in it.

I read it when it came out and, just to answer your question, I went and skimmed it again. IMO, it's one of those stories that suffers from over-complication and way too many characters. Legionwise, it stretched the bounds of storytelling by first bringing in the Legion Lost team (who supposedly had *no way* to get back to the 31st century). Then the entire 31st century team arrived somehow (including even Quislet). And at the end, I assume the Lost team went back with them, though that's not very clear.

For Legion fans there were some fun things:
Dream Girl was acting leader! (But she could have been appropriately renamed Scream Girl. Way too much adolescent-style hyper-yelling at her teammates, unlike the cool and sultry Dreamy we know.)
Bouncing Boy and Mysa each got a cool splash page.

And just for Lardy...the villain is a shape-changer whose natural form is a multi-fanged sphincter.

You could tell Lemire was excited to use the Legion, but was hamstrung by his own plodding narrative that was a continuation of the ongoing JLU snorefest. I'm not sure how you'd know what was going on without having read the rest of the series (Even then I'm not sure wink ). It was also at the time where he was about to jump ship to Marvel, and the last few issues really show he was just rushing through the story.

The Legion had little to no character development or dialogue beyond expository stuff and the art was... weird. Despite having a defined roll call, more and more Legionnaires would show up in the background art, all from different eras and boots of the book, eventually even multiple versions of the SAME character would show up in a panel. The only working theory that seems to make sense is that the artist grabbed a bunch of random issues for reference and just went hog wild.

This thread has made me slightly curious to check this out... mostly to see just how bad Alanna's hair is! wink

I'm not sure I read all of this one. Like the good folks above I mainly recall a huge number of Legionnaires, the majority of which filled up the back of panels. The JLU were a very dull lot. I get the sneaky suspicion that the scope of the plot may have suited a big cosmic Legion story, but that the momentum never really got going for it.

It's completely forgettable.
I remember being annoyed at the sheer number of Legionnaires that were thrown on the page but unused.

Based on all of your comments, I wasn't going to get the Infinitus collection unless I found a real bargain for it. Wouldn't you know--I found a copy of the hardcover on eBay for $2.25 + $4.95 shipping. So I got it on the cheap and have one of the few Legion appearances since the last series ended. Not in any hurry to read it, but there ya go.
