Marvel has a new Editor-in-Chief: Axel Alonso has gone, C.B. Cebulski has taken his place.

Not entirely sure Alonso's had too much direct **** around here, but some places are singing "Ding Dong the Witch Is Dead"...

I just know my Misney buying is down to one regular title and the occasional trades on his watch, when there was a time not TOO long ago I was split between DC and M about 45/45, the rest indies... Most of my orders now are DC, Indies and said trades and Squirrel Girl... I personally don't have any feelings about him, but the buck ultimately stops with the EiC.

I've always had find thoughts of Alonso, although despite everything I still think "vertigo" rather than "marvel" when I hear his name. But marvel is undeniably a mess right now. I guess we're about to see how much of it was down to his miss management versus a corporate culture he couldn't defeat. And by corporate culture, I mean Ike Perlmutter.

I know the name C. B. Cebulski, but it's never penetrated my consciousness enough for me to have any reaction to the news. I have no idea if that will be a good thing, or more of the same.

Given marvels recent track record of blaming anything but the quality of their books, it wouldn't surprise me if they just blamed Alonso's miss management without acknowledging that the results of that was bad books.

Probably not worth starting a new thread over, but here's Jim Shooter's thoughts on current Marvel: https://www.adventuresinpoortaste.c...e-of-marvel-creator-incentives-and-more/

Whatever else you want to say about Shooter, Marvel was pretty much at its creative apex during his tenure.

Still "Lardy" to my friends!

Early on, arguably. I would say it's different but equal to the creative but chaotic early 70s. However, by the end of his tenure his micromanagement had driven off quite a bit of talent, and by the time he was ousted in 1987, there were not more than a handful of really good books still being published.

Hey so apparently this guy worked under a pen name as Akira Yoshida in the early 2000s and circumvented Marvel policy, and also gave some interviews about how he was SO Japanese or something.

Thoughts?

I've read a lot of responses on both sides. I don't think he necessarily deserves to lose his job, and I don't think many people are actually calling for that. He DOES deserve the social media drubbing he's receiving. At the end of the day, the most reasonable POV I've seen is from POC creators who say that as an editor he has been actively championing diverse voices, and that removing him will do more harm than good.

OTOH, both his and Marvel's responses suggesting that this is simply dredging up old news that has already been handled internally a long time ago is disingenuous. They may have handled it as an HR matter, but this is the first his actual readers have heard of it, and are entitled to their own reactions.

Finally, I'm supremely irritated by the people insisting that this is just white SJWs making something out of nothing that POC don't actually care about. Yes, white liberals often speak on behalf of POC without listening to them. And yes, POC voices are split on this, with many defending him. But as someone who paid attention to responses from people in the affected group, I know that many of them are genuinely offended.
