Always wanted to commit thread-i-cide? Well, this is the place for YOU!!!

Welcome to......

Kill This Thread (XVII: the-one-almost-old-enough-to-vote-but-old-enough-to-watch-dirty-movies-edition)

The following rules were established by Kent at the start of the first 24-hour version, adapted from the original rules by EDE:

The rules:

1. The Basic Idea: Post to this thread, if no one posts after you for 24 hours, you win!

2. Posts that are not direct responses to one of the five preceding posts are ineligible to win. The topic can drift, but no complete non-sequitors. Posts that are responses to non-sequitors are also ineligible to win. Posts that are responses to responses to non-sequitors, and response nses to those posts, etc., become eligible, however.

3. In the event that this thread is locked, there shall be no winner unless a new thread is started for the contest. Furthermore, any post that results in the banning of the poster shall also be ineligible to win.

4. So, more precisely, one wins if one makes a post, and then no one makes another post that's eligible to win for 24 hours.

Here's a history of our various felons, along with a few missed opportunities.....

I - walkwithcrowds (7-day version)
II - none
III - none
IV - Quislet, Esq
V - Rockhopper Lad (the first 24-hour version)
VI - Rockhopper Lad
VII - cleome
VIII - Rockhopper Lad
IX - Rockhopper Lad
X - none
XI - none
XII - none
XIII - Invisible Brainiac
XIV - Invisible Brainiac
XV - Invisible Brainiac
XVI - Invisible Brainiac
XVII - Invisible Brainiac
XVIII - cleome
XIX - cleome
XX - cleome
XXI - Jfposey
XXII - Invisible Brainiac
XXIII - jfposey
XIV - Invisible Brainiac
XV - PALADIN (eff YEAH!!!)
XVI- Quislet, Esq.

Now, let's get to some serious thread murder....or you could just not post and leave the deed to me again! lol

They say that we don't really multitask so much as we do small bits of different tasks one right after the other.

True. It’s very difficult to actually concentrate on two tasks at the exact same time.

There is also a time delay when we switch from task to task, and this accounts for a lot of the extra time that we need to accomplish things when “multi tasking”

For me, supper was the main meal of the day, eaten in the evening. Dinner is the main meal of the day, but eaten mid-day and usually on Sunday.

No, lunch is usually a lighter meal,- lots of times just cold sandwiches. A dinner is a hot meal - meat & vegetables that you need a knife and fork to eat.

Oh, that’s interesting. I was raised to have only “snack” as a generic term for a lighter meal like a sandwich. (in the Philippines was say it is “merienda”)

Then breakfast, lunch and dinner for the three main meals of the day

Supper and dinner were also cooked meals, whereas breakfast and lunch were not cooked meals.

Breakfasts around the world are interesting. The French make do with some bread or croissants. In the Philippines, it's not a proper breakfast without rice (usually fried rice), eggs, and an assortment of meats.

In the American South supper and dinner are usually the same thing. Breakfast, lunch and dinner/supper can all be cooked meals or not. Dinner or supper, though, is always a cooked, sit-down meal.

The stegosaurus (my favorite dinosaur by the way) and Giganta bit - actually the whole bit was from one of Judy Tenuta's routines. She was talking about her roommate Blowsane

I'm tempted to say Batman/Catwoman, but I stopped liking Batman in the late 90s.

OTOH, the Earth-2 Batman/Catwoman hero/villainess romance worked out...at least in the sense that Selina really did reform, and their daughter, Helena Wayne aka Huntress was awesome.

Then again, Earth-2 Selina and then Earth-2 Bruce both died horribly, leaving Helena and orphan...and then there was that damn Crisis on Infinite Earths...

AAAAAARGH!

Happy endings sure are rare.

I was on a walking tour in Prague, learning about the history on Charles Bridge and at the Castle complex. A Turkish lady in the group says, "Why are all the stories so sad?"

A dreaded sunny day
So I meet you at the cemetry gates
Keats and Yeats are on your side
A dreaded sunny day
So I meet you at the cemetry gates
Keats and Yeats are on your side
While Wilde is on mine

So we go inside and we gravely read the stones
All those people, all those lives
Where are they now?
With loves, and hates
And passions just like mine
They were born
And then they lived
And then they died
It seems so unfair
I want to cry

Happy Together

The Turtles

Imagine me and you, I do
I think about you day and night, it's only right
To think about the girl boy you love and hold her him tight
So happy together
If I should call you up, invest a dime
And you say you belong to me and ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be, so very fine
So happy together
I can't see me lovin' nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me, baby the skies'll be blue
For all my life
Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it had to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together
I can't see me lovin' nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me, baby the skies'll be blue
For all my life
Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it had to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together
Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba
Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba
Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it had to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together
So happy together
How is the weather
So happy together
We're happy together
So happy together
Happy together
So happy together
So happy together (ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba)

I somehow managed to go on a date with an Argentinian gentleman who spoke very little English. It was quite a test of my Spanish.

Ah...cassette tapes! I don't know how much this was exaggerated, but I've seen headlines that imply that cassette tapes and players have made a comeback because of the popularity of the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Not sure if this is true, but I doubt it's more than a tiny niche comeback that probably far trails behind the enduring appeal of vinyls in certain circles.

Indeed. I can understand a few super-Starlord fans who might want to use those tapes, but come on! There's a reason cassette taps and floppy disks have given way to better technology...

And cassette tapes are much harder to use than vinyls, too.

But you can rewind a cassette tape with a pencil. Try doing that to vinyl.

I don't think cassette tapes will make a comeback. Vinyl at least has the appeal of the beautiful album art and relatively easy storage since they're so thin. I don't know what appeal cassette tapes hold.

Back in the bad old days some states had the one drop rule. That is, if one drop of your blood came from a black ancestor, then you were considered black.

I’m glad things have changed then. If that were in effect now in the Philippines, a much larger proportion of the population would be considered ethnically Chinese

We usually shorten it to "Pinas", short for the Spanish name, Las Filipinas.

By the way, I've heard foreigners refer to it as "the P.I.", short for "the Philippine Islands". Please don't when speaking to Filipinos; it's also a shortened form of a very, very bad swear word which our "dear" President loves using.

A common name/nickname in France is "titi". I had to explain to my classmates that this is Filipino slang for "penis". We had quite a few laughs over it.

Must be seeing festivities everywhere. I read that as "thanks for the reindeer."

Then I remembered that Legion World gave up Reindeer Exchange students years ago, before they went into the growing Ocelot Olympian training market.

Surely the reindeer are entitled to rest breaks as they travel across the whole world. Not to mention whether its right for them to be used in such a fashion at all. I notice that there aren't any relief reindeer, leading me to think that they have to work, even if they feel poorly.
