A new Costume Face-Off every few days! Let's kick it off with these 2 Jeckie looks... which is your favorite?
Well, you can say that there's not much like the disco outfit. Really -- can you name another that's like it in more than one aspect?
But the truth is I don't really like it that much.
So you prefer the 3boot look?
It's aright. Nothing to get worked up about.
I was planning on announcing winners, this sounds kinda abstain-ey?
I have a feeling others will have strong opinions on this one, but I don't.
It's a draw for Teeds.
Cockrum swinging sexy Princess for me! Sometimes over the top sexy just works, and the 30th century was one of those times.
No contest. Cockrum's design.
Classic Jeckie all the way!
My favourite Jeckie look is her Adventure era prom dress.
Neither of these compare but since I prefer 70s over-the-top-ness
to 00s boring-ness, I'll vote for the Cockrum one.
These are my two least favorite Jeckie costumes. So I'm abstain-y on this one.
I never really liked the Cockrum costume, so I am going with the Threeboot one.
These are my two least favorite Jeckie costumes.
I think I agree with this.
I would have voted for her Adventure era costume if that was an option.
My fave is actually the Magic Wars!
My favorite is the Postboot version
Yes, Moy did render her Adventure era costume beautifully in that one issue!
My favourite after her Adventure era one was the one she wore around the time of her marriage to Val. We hardly saw it and I can barely remember what it looks like now, but I remember thinking it was a refreshing change at the time. (Although, I just did a Google search for it and couldn't find it so maybe I imagined it? Or am getting her confused with Val?)
Neither of these are my favorite look for her, although there are elements to both I like (those lines up her legs ending in crowns? Classic!).
Of the two, Threeboot. Cockrum might win 90% of contests for me, but not this one.
I like her masked Sensor Girl look, the Lightle debuted her in (*not* the crowned mask-less boob-windowed abomination that came later), best.
My favorite look is also her Magic Wars-era look but I'm doing a bit over here!! Everyone's patience will be rewarded, trust me.
My favorite is the Postboot version
If only we could dress preboot Jeckie in her postboot outfit, it would be perfect!

Ooh... I completely forgot about her retroboot outfits when I agreed to these being my least favorite. Totally revise that.

Is this the one she wore during the Great Darkness Saga?
Of the two it's the Cockrum one. The threeboot one could belong to anyone. Apart from being he woman who has trouble raising her arms, it says nothing about the character.
Cockrum's, on the other hand, is distinctive, has those crowns on it and has a number of features without looking overly busy.
Man, you guys would be terrible at game shows!
- the little crowns on the boots is a plus for Cockrum.
- the toilet-seat looking collar thing on 3boot Jeckie is a minus.
My Pick: classic Princess Projectra!
Okay I think there's enough there to call Cockrum's design the winner.
But NOW whatcha goona do?!?!?!
Magic Wars or die.
Sensor Girl is ok.
Adventure Era .......... I guuuuuuuuueeeessssss.
I vote Stripper Princess. As ridiculous as that costume is I have always had a soft spot for it...the Adventure-era one just reminds me of a colourblind Scarlet Witch
The Adventure one, for sure.
Of these two I'd say the Adventure costume, if only to give her a little dignity though none of her costumes are a patch on Lightle's Sensor Girl IMO.
Still Cockrum for me as well. The older one is just boring to me.

Definitely, Sensor Girl for the win here.
8-5, we'll call it for ADVENTURE ERA! Now, things might get interesting-ish...
Original Jecks or Original Sensor Girl?
Shoulder pad vs. opera gloves
Seeing as original Sensor Girl was supposed to be Supergirl, I pick original Jeckie.
Definitely Sensor Girl over Jeckie!
Sensor Girl! Exciting new powers, great new attitude, some cleverness (an illusionist not *advertising* how her powers worked and making them useless), and a cool costume that managed to be sexy and powerful and show not a single inch of skin.
And one of the very rare masked Legionnaires (along with Ferro Lad and Wildfire, both of whom had other reasons to wear a mask than concealing their identity!).
Lovely image of Adventure Jecks. But...
Sensor Jecks for me.
I might have thought that Sensor Girl's masked costume looked odd when I first saw it next to all the publically known Legionnaires. But that was before I'd read Sir Prize Miss Terious.
Boo that Cockrum got voted down. No question here now, Sensor Girl all the way.
(Now can we assume you'll skip the New Krypton and v6. Senor Girl outfits, 'cuz those aren't winning squat).
I honestly did NOT expect original Sensor Girl to run away with this one. Interesting. i'll leave it open a day or two more though.

I did like the scene in the threeboot where Jeckie tells the guy that she will be making an illusion, but he still won't be able to do anything about it.

That was pretty awesome, although that character had a different sort of powerset than our 'classic' Jeckie. (Psychic illusions, as opposed to 'magical holograms.')
Illusion powers are wonky like that. Some illusions are psychic, and therefore your own brain is generating them (and the illusionist, such as Mirage, of the New Mutants, doesn't even have to know what they look like!), others are 'holograms' of light (and sound, sometimes) and the illusion-creator has to get them right (and they can be seen on television, etc., which psychic illusions wouldn't be...).
From a tactical standpoint, each has advantages and limitations.
Holograms can affect robots or people with fantastic mental shielding, but require some artistic skill on the part of the creator, and might not fool people with other senses, like a radar sense or a keen sense of smell.
Psionic illusions affect the mind, and therefore it doesn't matter what senses you have, since your brain is perceiving the illusion, but distant viewers (out of range of whatever psionic signal you are broadcasting) might not perceive the illusions at all (and wonder why everyone near you is running around and shooting at something they can't see)!
Comics illusionists haven't always done the best job of clarifying which sort of 'illusion' powers their characters have...
LEGION WORLD HAS SPOKEN. And it has said quite loudly that it likes giant shoulder-pads and huge flop-overy leg boots!
SO let's see how this costume face-off fares!
The original Sensor Girl costume for me. The Giffen one looks like Cobra Commander in drag.
The Giffen one looks like Cobra Commander in drag.
You're killing me Fanfie.
The Giffen look is tops for me!
As kid chaos once said, think how boring it would be if we agreed on everything.
I like the lavender and the dark blue and the mask of the Giffen design, but not the raspberry or the poufy sleeves or the oh-so-90's pouches that everybody was wearing.
Lightle's design wins it for me, once again. (It was Lightle, right? Not LaRocque?)
Yes, it was Lightle.
LaRocque, much as I love him, didn't really contribute anything of importance.
Magic Wars!
Now *that* looks like something royalty would wear!
Super-bonus points for finally giving us Lightle's original vision of solid face mask!
I loves em both but I'm gonna vote for Magic Wars Jeckie just because it's a more unconventional costume. I really love how asymmetrical it is and that cape on one side.
Original Sensor Girl for me still
Original Sensor Girl. It is the total facelessness of the Giffen look that makes me go 'no thanks'
7-4 in favor of Original look Sensor Girl, so far. I'm glad to see this round isn't a complete runaway yet. I'm keeping this open for a few days!
It is kind of cool that Costume Face-Off is having it's first battle of two costumes that totally cover the face.
LEGION WORLD HAS SPOKEN. And it has said quite loudly that it likes giant shoulder-pads and huge flop-overy leg boots!
Just wait for the Blok one for squeals.
This is super tough. I really liked the original Sensor Girl's look (once I got past the mask) & colour scheme.
But the colour scheme of the Magic Wars one is something unique and it's very nice too. The mask is even more eerie, which suits the character.
Where the first was your more dynamic royal look, the second has a combination of controlled regal aggression.
But can Magic Jeckie actually move well in that asymmetrical (I was going to say "cape on the side" thanks Raz
) outfit?
The whole outfit looks to restrict movement down one side, so it's not the most practical outfit, even if it is just an illusion.
So, I'm...UNDECIDED!
It is kind of cool that Costume Face-Off is having it's first battle of two costumes that totally cover the face.
I heard that the winner of this round goes up against Mask Man next!
Original Sensor Girl. I totally hated all of Giffen's costume changes for the Legionnaires in Magic Wars.
I totally hated all of Giffen's costume changes for the Legionnaires in Magic Wars.
Me, too, Leather Wolf.
Cheers.
I don't think all of the Magic Wars costumes were terrible, as I did enjoy the Element Lad costume, even if I vastly preferred his Bierbaum designed pink and black one.
Magic Wars. Best thing to happen to comics.
Haters gonna hate.
I don't think all of the Magic Wars costumes were terrible, as I did enjoy the Element Lad costume, even if I vastly preferred his Bierbaum designed pink and black one.
Double heresy! It's the
blue and green or nothing!
I loved the style of the Magic Wars costumes, if not all of the details. I mean, really, wearing fur in the 30th century?
It was Faux Fur.
The Faux is a none too agile creature found on the fourth planet around Aldebaran.
The green one is okay, but I feel that the pink/black one is more faithful to his original Adventure era design.
I think we was trying to imply that people wanted the "nothing" option.
Isn't the nothing option just a naked Element Lad? Or does a birthday suit count
Still torn over which Jecks costume to pick...
plumping for..... Lightle.
I echo many of the sentiments already expressed here regarding both costumes. This isn't an easy one for me. I like the blank facemask on Giffen's and it is one of the few redesigns from that era that I actually liked. And those shoulder pads on lightle's design can look a bit silly at times ...
BUT ultimately, I have to go for the Lightle costume! It's a cleaner design and ultimately more striking for a super-hero. (nothing against asymmetry, but there's a little too much going on in Giffen's version)
I loves em both but I'm gonna vote for Magic Wars Jeckie just because it's a more unconventional costume. I really love how asymmetrical it is and that cape on one side.
Agreed totally about the cape on one side!
Hmm... what's left for Jeckie costumes? The retroboot designs (ick!)? The one-shot fan-designed costume from the 70s?
I liked her hair and robes in the 5YL Zombies and Mordru issues.
Plus she chucked Karate Kid into a fire IIRC.
Then there's her neck cracking torn rose tunic outfit from the LSV Baxter issues.
Who would dare to not pick that one? >snap<
Yeah, umm, original Sensor Girl trounced all comers, so I'd bet none of her one-off outfits have a chance. Let's not waste that time.
LEGION WORLD HAS SPOKEN AND LEGION WORLD LOVES SUPER-HEROINES IN SHOULDER PADS!!!
CHOOSE TWO WHY DON'T YOU????
Number Five and Number Eight. The longer her hair is, the more I like her overall look.
Adventure era Luornu. She was a girl-next-door cutie pie!
Boyblues blog is great for this sort of thing.
Not that I got further than 1 & 2 in this case...
Two. I don't really like the rest that much.
Number 1 and 2. That flip in her hair will take you down.
Computo couldn't resist her in her Adventure Era costume.
#2 is my all-time favourite and I picked #5 because it's one of those ridiculous comic book costumes that is a product of its time.
#3 gets an honorary mention for the tri-coloured triangle
#3 and #4, I'm biased
But as raz said, that tri-colored triangle is a great symbol.
and #4 because other people are picking it!
honorable mentions go to #2 and #8.
Number 1 and 2. That flip in her hair will take you down.
A choice showing excellent taste :-)
First choice: #2
Second choice: #3
I'll probably be unable to continue these for awhile, if someone wants to take over.
I'll probably be unable to continue these for awhile, if someone wants to take over.
I'll be happy to fill in until you can get back to it. Let's give it a couple of more days, then will pick a winner for Lu's outfits.
Thanks EDE! See how you feel after doing Lu, if you want to continue indefinitely, that is great with me!
So, appropriately enough, we current have
three outfits that clearly have a lead over all the others, so let's just call them our finalists and choose from among them for our winner!
Vote for
one of the following:
Adventure Era Lu:
Bronze Age Lu:
Baxter Era Lu:
Baxter for the outfit, but I love that Adventure hair! It makes her look impish!
Bronze is a delight but I'll vote ADVENTURE to give it a fighting chance against Baxter.
Bronze for me. Its the most stylish, and while thr adventure era costume is cute I never understood the later one that broadcast she had split.
I'm going Bronze Age as the Baxter age is just a variation of it.
Bronze for me. Its the most stylish, and while thr adventure era costume is cute I never understood the later one that broadcast she had split.
I think the Bronze age one also broadcasted when she used her power to split.
Oh so she did when she first wore it, whoops! By the time she was Duplicate Girl/ Damsel that had stopped thankfully.
Okay, so it was a close one, but it looks like Baxter pulled it off, with a lead of 6 to 4 each for the other outfits!
New costume challenge tomorrow!
Yay!
...quickly checks that it was Baxter I went for....
Yay!
Okay, took a little longer than I expected, but I'll try to get these on a regular schedule from now on!
So, Baxter seems to have won the day thus far, so let's change it up by doing a Legionnaire who has no Baxter Era outfit!
Invisible Kid (Adventure Era)
Invisible Kid (Reboot)
Invisible Kid (Threeboot I)
Invisible Kid (Threeboot II)
You have roughly a week to vote for your favorite of the four above!
But also, check out these groovy renditions of these costumes and other outfits worn by Lyle Norg by our very own Future!
This one was a tough call, but I'm going with Reboot.
Hmm... I suppose I should have include his later threeboot outfit in this as well, so if anyone wants to vote for that, they can!
The Adventure outfit has a sentimental attraction, but I have to go with Reboot.
I vote for Adventure. It's one of the few Adventure era costumes that I really liked.
Definitely reboot! As simple as it is, I really like Lyle's reboot costume
Reboot. I always thought that was a cool costume in general.
I'm going with reboot as well. One of the few costumes of that era that really holds up.
I am going to buck the trend and vote for Threeboot I
Reboot all the way.... but with the jacket.
Shown here
Official Guide to the DC Universe
Reboot. Love the color scheme. No, I am not biased. At all.
Ooh, that's actually his retroboot outfit, which I'd totally forgotten about!
I love Lyle's original costume in an "it's so bad it's good way" (those colours!) but I also have to give my vote to the SW6/Reboot one.
I am normally all about intricate, highly-detailed costumes (George Perez would be outfitting everyone in the DCU if I had my druthers) but Lyle's SW6/Reboot costume is a masterclass in effective simplicity.
P.S. My votes for all of the previous rounds:
Projectra 1: Cockrum
Projectra 2: Adventure
Projectra 3: Adventure (my extreme dislike of the Sensor Girl identity colours my opinion of the costume)
Projectra 4: Sensor Girl (tough call; don't like either of them but the Sensor Girl one looks slightly more interesting)
Luornu 1: #2 (Baxter Dou Damsel) and #4 (Triad's second costume)
Luornu 2: Baxter Duo Damsel
I really like the Reboot Invisible Kid with the jacket.
Ooh, that's actually his retroboot outfit, which I'd totally forgotten about!
Batista for the win. Another write-in vote for this one.
Hmm... I think I'm switching to that one as well!
I love the way it combines the reboot and Adventure costumes!
Retroboot. I'm glad Georgehaze found the pic. But that's definitely my favourite.
Of the initial choices it would be reboot.
Well, the retroboot almost pulled off the write-in upset, but not quite!
Reboot for the win!
Adventure, Lyle wore a brown costume before brown costumes were cool.
