Set in a time period other than the present day
Is it Kamandi?
Travis Morgan, The Warlord ?

I really just want it to be the Warlord.
It is Kamandi!

The "it depends" on the Earth-1 question was down to the whole Great Disaster getting shunted around continuity. I nearly added a caveat for the military question too, as he'd end up being Tommy Tomorrow or something in one version at the end of Crisis.

Over you Eryk!
Yeah, that was pretty much the key clue, but it took a couple of stabs to figure out how it worked.

I first thought it might be a post-Golden Age, pre-Silver Age character whose status on Earth-1 might be ambiguous, then I thought it might be Prez (who wasn't supposed to be on Earth-1, but weirdly showed up in an issue of Supergirl!), and then I came up with the Great Disaster.

Good one!
His pic was on the homepage today, so it's not as though I put much though into this one. smile
I'm thinking of a character.

So is that a qualified yes and I can continue asking questions or does it pass to Dorothy Kilgallen?

Is it Tallulah Black?
It *is* Tallulah Black!

I think the "Gotham" bit threw people off, but the "new 52" Jonah Hex storyline was set in 19th century Gotham, and I believe Tallulah was there through much of the story.

Also, she's a bounty hunter, which in the real world is often overlaps with private investigation, but isn't really the same thing.

While she hasn't appeared in an animated version, she has appeared in live action, sort of, in the Jonah Hex movie, as Megan Fox's character was loosley based on her, albeit with pretty much everything distinctive about her eliminated.
Wow, that one was tough!

OK, I'm thinking of a DCU character.
Is your character a ninja?
My character is not a ninja.
is your character male?
Good character EDE!

Chaim, if you're character jumped from the top of a tall building would people say "not to worry, they can fly."?
Is your character known for frequently trying to discover Superman's secret identity?
Is your character part of the superhero genre?
My character is male.
If my character jumped from a tall building, people would likely worry that he can't fly...although depending on the circumstance, they might be wrong to think so.
I am not aware that my character has made any concerted effort to discover Superman's secret identity.
My character is part of the super-hero genre.
If your character were to encounter Superman, would it be likely that they would meet as foes?
Does your character have access to a hero dial?
Does your character wear a costume typical of a super-hero or villain?
If my character were to encounter Superman, it is more than likely that they would meet as foes.
My character does not have access to a hero dial.
My character wears a costume typical of a super-hero or villain.
Would your character primarily be considered an enemy of Superman?
Does your character mainly cross swords with a Justice League member other than Superman?
My character would be considered primarily an enemy of Superman.
He did not mainly cross swords with a Justice League member other that Superman.
Is your character a native of Earth?
My character is a native of Earth.

Time for a summary:

Male
Native to Earth
Not a ninja
Part of the super-hero genre
Wears a costume typical of super-heroes or villains
An enemy of Superman, not mainly of any other Justice League member
Has not, to my knowledge, made persistent efforts to discover Superman's secret identity
Does not have access to a hero dial
Would probably worry people that if he jumped off a tall building he'd be unable to save himself with the power of flight, but depending on the circumstance, that worry might be unjustified

I just maid a little joke - you don't have to be milking it so much!

My character does have powers beyond normal human abilities.
My character (with some details of his history somewhat different) did debut prior to the Crisis on Infinite Earths.
It is not Terra-Man. (Nor "the Partridge".)
Is it Toyman?
Does this character have some degree of invulnerability that would make falling off a tall building less worrisome despite his lack of ability to fly?
It is not the Toyman (who, interestingly enough, was my character about a month or so ago).

This character might, under certain circumstances, have a degree of invulnerability.
Does this character absorb powers from others?

... Parasite?
Is your character The Planeteer (The Alexander the Great guy)?
I'm betting Ibby has it, but I'll guess Paragon, just because he's one of my favorite villains.
Is that the same Paragon who fought the JLA?
Yeah. One-shot JLA villain who disappeared for twenty years and then returned as a Superman villain. He's mostly a fave because of that JLA issue though.
I didn't know he had returned. I really liked the old JLA appearance too, and he was a frequent foe in li'l thoth's imaginings.
Ibby is indeed correct!
Paragon was a pretty tough opponent

The “absorbing powers” thing really helped me get the right answer !

ok, I am thinking of a character...
Is your character a villain who has faced the JLA?
I was thinking Parasite when I asked the "absorbing powers" question.

Is your character a 19th century outlaw living in space in the present day, using futuristic alien weapons designed to resemble those of the Old West and who rides an alien winged horse?

possibly, depending on the interpretation
Is your character's powers magical in nature?
nope

Has your character had their own series?
Originally Posted by Eryk Davis Ester

it depends on the interpretation. A plausible argument could be made for two of those

yes!

recap soon, when I can get to my laptop (am traveling now but returning “home” tonight)
Hmm.... not Kole because you said the character is male.

Tempest?
Is it Kon-El?
Neither Tempest nor Kon
Did this character debut prior to Crisis?
Nope!
Sometimes I think the highly specific questions tend to confuse the issue even more tongue

Recap:

- male, though if he were gay I have no idea if he would like to date Steve Rogers
- not a villain who has faced the JLA
- would survive if he jumped out of a plane flying at 35,000 feet and did not have a parachute
- has powers that could be interpreted to involve light, crystal or telekinesis like effects, depending on how you interpret them. Two of these are more plausible effects than the third
- powers are not magical in nature
- has had own series
- has been a member of the Teen Titans
- did not debut prior to Crisis on Infinite Earths
- not a 19th century outlaw living in space in the present day, using futuristic alien weapons designed to resemble those of the Old West and who rides an alien winged horse
- not Crazy Jane, Tempest, Kon-El

Yes! It is Kyle!

GL emerald energy has sometimes been compared to light energy... and can lift objects, much like telekinesis can. Parallels have been drawn between telekinetics (like Kinetix!) and GL powers!
He can make crystals if he wanted, albeit green.
Though telekinesis and light are more plausible than crystals are, but yes

I feel like this is an amazingly big clue tongue
I may have to write that fanfic now!
Is the character from Earth X ?
That clue about the powers not being there anymore... Woozy Winks?
Sorry I forgot to check this thread yesterday.

It is Woozy Winks. In his first appearance he had the power that nature protected him from all harm (he had helped Father Nature). He initially turned to crime and fought Plastic Man. Over time he became Plastic Man's comic sidekick and his power was forgotten.
Yes! That clue about the power no longer being there, plusTeeds starting a thread, helped me think of old Woozy

Let's just say Egg Fu will be quite angry with a couple of his minions!
So, if I were to fantasize about this character enjoying an intimate romantic encounter with Black Widow, would I potentially be embarrassed because her telepathic abilities allow her to read my thoughts?
this character isn’t telepathic, but you may be embarrassed by something else (this might be a clue!)

recap when I get to my laptop later
My character:

- is not an obvious scientist, at least not to Egg Fu
- could consider dating the Black Widow, if my character were gay
- would make people surprised if caught robbing a bank
- a heroine
- not a memeber of the Justice League, Teen Titans, All-Star Squadron
- has super powers
- not had own title
- if EDE fantasized about her and the Black Widow, would not be emberrassed because of the character's telepathy. But might be embarrassed by something else

This of course, is to cover just how creepy Hal Jordan's adventures were. When I started reading comics, he had quit the GLC after much whining. The whining continued as he re-joined, had a mid life crisis and shacked up with an underaged girl. Years later, we'd be reading his thought bubbles as he fights to resist a slightly older Supergirl in Brave and Bold. He'd have been the Green Creeper, had the Creeper not already been around. Yuck!

Hey!
What!
Guess what I'm doing?!
Thinking of a DC character?!

I think he'd be happy with the minion, but perhaps not meeting the exacting standards set out by the mission.

Summary
A non female, Earth-1, villainous character who appeared before Crisis who despite not being able to survive a fall from 35000 feet, as they don't really have powers, is no stranger to comic book science.

As far as I know the character goes around using its own name all the time.

Summary
A non female, non human, non artificial, Earth-1 universe character, who is confident enough in villainy to only use their given name, who appeared before Crisis battling no particular hero/JLAer, but the JLA as a whole, and who, despite not being able to survive a fall from 35000 feet, as they don't really have powers, is no stranger to comic book science, even if they don't use that science to have themed weapons, particularly the science from the planet they are from which isn't Earth.

Yes And I am going to give a hint here. My character only appeared in one story. However the one story is not just a middle of a series story like say Fantastic Four issue 239. Oh and the character does have a name and dialog. It isn't nameless police officer. Still, you may need to do some research as you narrow down who it is.

He did not appear with Superman, Starman, Dr. Fate, or in a team book (so no JLA). He did appear with a Founding JSA member who heeded Edna Mode and did not wear a cape. So, not in the sci-fi genre.

He did die in his one and only appearance. Which was before COIE. He is from Earth-2, which was one of the 5 Earths merged in Crisis, so not from Earth-1

Yes, That is the member of the Faultless Four that I selected. I almost picked Serge Orloff, the surgeon. He was the only one for whom we knew what his scientific specialty was. Although, from the fact that Sieur Satan wired the room implies he specialized in electricity.
The Faultless Four. Sounds like a good name for many of the judgey people who post infuriatingly unctuous comments on social media.
Sieur Satan actually re-appeared in All-Star Squadron Annual #3, where he tried to assassinate Dwight Eisenhower at Fort Lewis by causing an earthquake with an underground drill.
Darn you Roy Thomas!
Wow! That was tough. I have heard of him, and it can only be through that All-Star Comics appearance. I don't recognise the Faultless Four.

It was in Flash Comics #1, Jay Garrick's origin, Sieur Satan actually killed the other members of the Faultless Four in an attempt to kill Flash. He then died in a car crash trying to escape the Flash.
It was really tough going being a Golden Age villain. No revolving door of death for those guys. You think you've got it made only for a giant Spectre to drop you off a cliff.
At least until Roy Thomas brings you back via time travel or magic!
That was the trick that so many didn't pick up on. If you left a light on, had an overdue library book or had an untied shoelace, and could get it shown on a panel, Roy would devote a whole issue to tying it up. Literally in the case of the shoe lace. He'd have to resurrect you to do it too, if you managed to stay out of an All-Star Squadron issue. No selling your soul to Neron; No coming back as a Black Lantern. Both of which meant appearing in a dreadful event comic. Just a straightforward new lease of life.
One weird thing about Flash Comics #1 is that it's very difficult to believe that, at the very least, the entire population of Midwestern University wouldn't know that Jay Garrick is The Flash. It's fairly ambiguous for the first few issues of Flash Comics just how public his identity is.
Considering he doesn't wear any sort of mask at all, it does seem odd. The helmet/hat doesn't really count as a disguise. Unless he vibrates his body all the time in public so his features are obscured.

It's a fine line when trying to keep your identity safe. The Flash ashcan issue gave him a slightly longer codename with Flash in it, and he only vibrated certain body parts. See chapters 2,5 & 6 of Seduction of the Innocent for more details.

I'm tempted to just start answering "yes" to every question and then see who we come up with!
Originally Posted by Eryk Davis Ester

That would be cool if there were contradictory questions. Like if one poster asked if your character was a hero and another asked if the character was a villain.
He could be an anti-hero, where both would be technically correct, depending on circumstances.

It would be interesting to give us a set number of questions to eliminate as much of the DCU as possible and see if any of us could think of someone who was left.
We could draw up some common questions to prevent anything from being contradictory. would be fun to see if any characters fit the description after 10 questions

I was going to guess Quasar (significant amounts of time away from Earth) but, wrong universe smile

No.
Does this love interest resemble an Earth-born human being (i.e. identical physical features, even if clothes are not)?

Yes.
Was the love interest involved in a mission with the Justice League Task Force?

I'm a bit stumped.

Was the co-star originally from Earth-1 universe?
Nothing comes to mind as well.

Was this character part of an inter-planetary organization such as the Green Lantern Corps or the Darkstars or L.E.G.I.O.N. or similar?

It has been implied that the character is a member of such an organization, but that fact is a bit obscure.

tongue

Is your character based in the present time of the DC universe at the time of publication?
Yes.
My character:

--If gay, would not like to date Captain America, aka Chris Evans, and not because of any personal grudge against Chris Evans or his role as Captain America
--Does not have powers beyond those of a normal human being
--Is a human being born on Earth
--Has been based away from Earth-1
--is based in the present time (relative to time of publication).
--is not a super-hero nor super-villain
--Did not debut before Crisis, but did debut before Zero Hour
--Debuted in a book that usually features two heroes, and is not a solo or team book, because it a Superman team-up book, namely DC Comics Presents
--has appeared in comics other than this issue of DC Comics Presents
--was presumably born in the USA, but did not live in Metropolis at the time they were introduced
--does not work for a governmental or inter-governmental organization
--has been implied to be involved with an interplanetary organization like the Green Lantern Corps or L.E.G.I.O.N., but this is a somewhat obscure fact.
--has never had an adventure with the Omega Men.
--has never met Hawk and Dove, though likely knows who they are.
--is not connected to the Batman, did not debut in a book starring Batman, and did not debut in Detective Comics, nor any other book that typically stars Batman, even if Batman did not appear in that particular issue.

e. has spent significant amounts of time away from Earth
f. has powers beyond those of a normal human being
g. could sort of be considered a legacy hero, but not exactly.
h. is not an Earth-born human being, but resembles one.
i. is not originally from the Earth-1 universe
Does your character use a device or a gadget?
Insofar as the character is involved with an interplanetary organization, this involves the use of a device.
Is this device a green lantern ring?

Here's a hint:

This character (or versions of the character) has died on three separate occasions. On one of them, she is killed by her love interest.
was going to guess Hawkgirl, but your character isn’t a super hero...
Would your character be comfortable in more science fiction stories as opposed to super hero ones?

Maybe more comfortable, but that's not where they'd typically be found.

In another death, she dies in a car accident.
I feel like this would be fairly easy once I figure out the love interest.

There aren't many characters who didn't debut prior to Crisis and yet guest-starred in DC Comics Presents.
has the love interest also been part of the Black Lantern Corps?

The third death (well, actually first), is during Crisis.

I've looked at the covers of Crisis-era issues and annuals of DCCP, and I can't even figure out which character your character is romantically-linked to! Are you sure you haven't overlooked some exclusionary factoid in either character's list?
I don't think so. It seems to me incredibly obvious who it must be, but the fact that nobody seems to be able to get is really leading me to think I've gotten something terribly wrong!
Posted By: Lard Lad Re: I am thinking of a DCU character part V - 09/03/18 01:42 AM
All of this refers to the DCCP guest star your character is romantically-linked with, right?

Yeah, and it seems to me everything is true. Plus the fact that they've been a Black Lantern and killed their romantic interest.
Posted By: Lard Lad Re: I am thinking of a DCU character part V - 09/03/18 01:57 AM
Well, examining the clue about the DCCP guest star having been a single one and not part of a group, then we don't have any single guest star who debuted after April 1985. Ambush Bug, Adam Strange, Swamp Thing, Supergirl, Superboy-Prime, Creeper, Captain Comet, Adrian Chase, Hawkman, Blue Devil and Superwoman all pre-date CoIE as far as I know!
Okay, either I'm going crazy and Wikiipedia is also wrong, or one of the characters on your list does not pre-date COIE.
Posted By: Lard Lad Re: I am thinking of a DCU character part V - 09/03/18 02:14 AM
Okay, I have to plead guilty that I thought that character debuted before CoIE. My faulty memory had him debuting prior to that because his world had been around a long time. I now know the answer but will give others a chance. Hopefully, this will help the other participants!
I was really starting to doubt myself because I thought you would know it instantly given the clues!
Posted By: Lard Lad Re: I am thinking of a DCU character part V - 09/03/18 02:42 AM
Honestly, I'd forgotten that that character had a romantic interest. shrug
I looked up a list of DCCP characters too, trying to use stock knowledge (no further research) to figure out who fit the clues

but all of them seem pre-COIE to me too, i can remember many of them appearing in COIE itself...

and the ones i’m not sure of, i don’t remember having love interests who fit the clues
just in case though, i’ll try my aborted guess of Hawkgirl smile
I've not looked at other sources tongue, but I don't remember there being a lot of post crisis issues of the book. It was one of those that went because DC were building up to the Superman relaunch. I was thinking of Superwoman, but I guess that's out.

Could it be Superboy's girlfriend on Earth Prime? Maybe there's things that happened to her later I don;t know about. Her name was Laurie?

i had considered Laurie, but disregarded her because I assumed Supes-Prime had appeared at the same time as Crisis. i always assume that appearing concurrent to Crisis = not debuting after.

but Laurie definitely fits most of the other clues! especially the Black Lantern one
It is Laurie Lemmon, Superboy-Prime's girlfrined!

At no point did I say she debuted after Crisis:

Quote
--Did not debut before Crisis, but did debut before Zero Hour

Debuting concurrent to Crisis = not debuting before *or* after!

She and Superboy-Prime both debut in DC Comics Presents #87.
She presumably dies in Crisis.
Alexander Luthor shows Superboy-Prime the death of his parents and Laurie in an auto accident on New Earth to manipulate him during Infinite Crisis.
After Superboy-Prime restores Earth-Prime in some event or another, he finds his parents and Laurie having read about his adventures, but horrified at him, and so he apparently kills her off-panel.
She is later seen "alive" but with a Black Lantern ring.
So, thoth asked in the very first round of questions whether she'd lived somewhere other than Earth-1. What I thought would happen was that, with a "yes" to that question, you guys would immediately start guessing other pre-Crisis Earths she could be from, which would quickly get us to Earth-Prime, and it would be easy after that. Instead, everyone seems to have been led astray by the "not before Crisis" question to think that's why she didn't appear on Earth-1, and so no one pursued the obvious line of questioning.
Yeah, looking back at the phrasing, I definitely misinterpreted the "did not debut before Crisis" clue. You're right,in that your answer was worded correctly.

Another brain fart of mine: "living somewhere other than Earth-1" for some reason made me think of other planets! That's why I asked so many questions about interplanetary organizations.

Funnily enough, I remembered Superboy-Prime as an associate of the Sinestro Corps; I think I may have asked a question on that, or was planning to. But in any case, the Black Lantern clue made me think otherwise.

And I had assumed that at least some of this character's deaths were due to reboots. We know there were three. So I thought, one death to turn this character into a Black Lantern, and possibly another death as a Black Lantern. That still left at least one retcon/reboot.

It all makes sense in the end!

And this all makes me remember how much I detest what became of Superboy-Prime. He was great in COIE, but alas... he and Alex Luthor definitely got the shaft.

good going EDE, and good going to thothy (and Lardy) for figuring it out!
I believe you asked if the character (Laurie) was in the Sinestro Corps, but not about the love interest (Superboy-Prime), who apparently was associated with the Sinestro Corps, Red Lanterns, Star Sapphires, and Black Lanterns at different points (going by Wikipedia, I've never read any of stuff myself).
yeah, towards the end I was starting to get confused between clues for the character, and clues for the love interest. That contributed to my being unable to figure it out smile
I was really glad when Quis asked whether the love interest and the guest star were the same person, because I was worried I was going to have to keep track of three different lists!
Wow! That was a good one EDE! I picked up a lot of Crisis era DCP issues a few years back, so Laurie crossed my mind when we knew she appeared around that time, that she had no powers and that she had appeared since. Well, she crossed my mind after I'd wandered through the Forgotten Heroes, wondering if Ambush Bug has a romantic interest.

Then I missed a few posts and when I came back I mistook the guest star for the character. Then something made me think the answer was in a group and I thought it would be one of the many Omega Men. Then I went back to Laurie. The whole Lantern thing threw me a bit, as I've not read too many of those.

She wasn't too obscure as I'd not have thought of her earlier on. I'm glad I guessed though, as I'd half convinced myself it wasn't her.
Posted By: Lard Lad Re: I am thinking of a DCU character part V - 09/04/18 01:43 AM
I honestly thought Edie had made a serious error somewhere! In my head S-Prime appeared well before Crisis, probably because Earth-Prime had been around. I also felt like I had read his first appearance, yet I don't think I ever read DCCP 87. (My big time reading DCCP that I've referred to many times was several years earlier, around the thirties and forties of that mag.) Oddly enough, the site I use for cover and issue reference, mycomicsshop.com, does not note that this issue features S-Prime's first appearance. If I had noticed that the issue sells for significantly more than the surrounding issues, I might have figured it out sooner.

I also completely forgot about Laurie. So much awful, disgusting stuff has been done with S-Prime that it's hard to remember much beyond heads being punched off and crap. It'll be interesting to rediscover what he was originally like in the Crisis re-read.
DCCP #87 is an excellent comic, though reading it will piss you off about what was later done with Superboy-Prime even more!
Posted By: Lard Lad Re: I am thinking of a DCU character part V - 09/04/18 01:57 AM
It's pretty funny that all of this pre-dated the new Crisis thread and all of my talk of DCCP over there! lol
I was actually sitting here thinking, "Lardy just mentioned Superboy-Prime over in the Crisis thread... how does not realize that these clues refer to Superboy-Prime!"
Superboy-Prime had such great early appearances. what happened to him is a tragedy. instead of getting enraged that he murdered three Legionnaires - including Kinetix - I just imagine that events proceeded as in my fanfic, where Zoe is saved and restored in a big battle with Mordru, and the Reboot Legion’s world is restored too!

Tough one (and so early on) I'll say no, even if English isn't often used.

It is....

... dramatic effect....

… pause to go back and type "dramatic" properly...

Not Mr Bones!
I didn't think it was.

Does Ibby remember any other members of Helix?
Not off the top of my head.
Now if I could just find a way of merging this with the "kill this thread" thread...
There was a guy who was an adult that looked like a baby. Was it him?
That was a girl I think, and her name was something along the lines of Baby Boom. It wasn't her.
Is it Arak?
It is not Arak Windwalker.
hmmm I remember Tao Jones was there, but she’s a she...

was Penny Dreadful a she?
Penny dreadful was a she and it isn't her

EDIT: Although she was very nearly the character I did go for.
there were only six Helix characters right? so by default it’s the last one smile I think he looked like a dog?
I think that's good enough for me. His name was Kritter and he was a gadgeteer. At one point he made a voice box and he spoke English through it, hence that part of the answer. He also seemed to be a bit stronger and a lot tougher than normal folks.

Over to you Ibby!
Man, I was just going to guess Kritter! wink

Seriously, though, there was a member named "Tao Jones"? That's fantastic!
Tao Jones got a throwaway mention in one of those post-Infinite Crisis Justice League issues. She and Penny and Baby Boom (I think) also appeared in that Wonder Woman story with the all-female villain army led by Circe!

Big kudos to EDE for the assist in figuring out that the team was Helix!
>bump for Ibby<

My character has visited other Earths, yes.
Did your character visit those Earths prior to Crisis?
yes, some of them were visited before Crisis, possibly all
Did this character debut concurrently to Crisis?
nope
Did this character originate in the Earth-1 universe?
Yes
Was this character a member of the pre-Crisis Justice League?
yes
Recap:

- not Praetor Lemnos
- has visited Earths besides Earth-1, and at least some of these visits (if not all) happened before Crisis
- did not debut concurrently with Crisis
- originated in Earth-1 universe
- member of Pre-Crisis Justice League
Is your character one of the original seven members of the league?
Yes
Was your character born on Earth?
Nope
Martian Manhunter?
If I were a master criminal and wanted to dispose of this character in a death trap, would I be more likely to use one that involved fire rather than kryptonite?
yes!

Yay! It is Zatara! He was in that multi-page membership spread in one of the All-Star issues I was talking about in another thread.

Over to you EDE!
I was thinking about that, and then you know what else I thought about? Thoth has recently mentioned liking covers with "Who will be members of X?" on them, and I thought of Captain Triumph because his photo was on the cover of A-SS #1!
And you would have been right to think about that. Because I looked at the cover of A-SS #1 because I thought GA Aquaman was on it, before going further into the series. smile
Anyway, I'm thinking of a character!

It is Percy Sheldrake, the original Squire (later the original Knight).

He first appeared as the Knight in Batman #62 in 1950 (which I guess counts as Earth-2?), before joining the Batmen of All Nations in 1955.

Young All-Stars retconned him into having served as the first Squire to the Shining Knight, and as a member of the Young Allies.

And he was later succeeded as the Knight by his own son and Squire.
cool!

i am beginning to think of a character
In the beginning, is this character a hero?
Did this character get kidnapped by either the Monitor or Anti-Monitor?
If this character were to encounter the Terrific Whatzit, might they try to pit their own super-speed powers against his?

Not a supporting character of Batman.
So not Alfred.

Is the Justice League member one of the original 7? Green Lantern, Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Superman, Martian Manhunter, and Batman
Yep.
seeing how the character is human, it can't be Zook

And seeing that I don't think you'd have to look up the team thing, it is not Aqualad.

Is it Hal (Air Wave) Jordan?
It is indeed Hal (Air Wave) Jordan!

He's not someone I would immediately think of when thinking of sidekicks, but he does have a lot of characteristics of a sidekick in his early appearances where he's being trained by GL and friends.

He had some solo stories in Action Comics, but I think he's best known for the early stories where he's part of GL's cast or for later appearances as a background character in other books.

And he was a member that classic DC super-team The Captains of Industry, who apparently showed up in a late 80s issue of Firestorm.
Knowing the character was part of the original 6 Justice Leaguers helped me.

OK I am thinking of a DC character

good going!

interesting how so many Hal cast members seem like sidekicks but aren’t, and have blossomed into obscure careers of their own. Tom Kalmaku fit the same clues Air Wave did
I kind of figured that we'd get it to being GL'S sidekick, then Tom Kalmaku would be the first guess. I could definitely see how the clues could be pointing to him.

I did look that up before answering. Wikipedia gives her power as resilient to harm as opposed to immortal.
I wonder why they decided to give Scandal a power different from dear old dad's.
I think is was tied into the immortality. Just described differently.

Ah that clears things up. There were so few female JSAers before Crisis that I thought I'd have a better chance guessing male heroes.

Is said hero Wonder Woman?
Yes!
Yay!

Um...

Steve Trevor?
It is indeed Steve Trevor!

I still think it was Doiby Dickles.
I see some similarities with Steve Trevor...

Just to make sure, is this character a member of some incarnation of the Justice League?
yes to both
Is it Blue Jay?
Is it Ray II?
nope and nope
especiallly as both would survive falling out of a plane
Good point.. that actually makes it really tough...

Recap:

- would not survive falling out of a plane flying at 35,000 feet without a parachute or a deus ex machina
- has powers beyond those of a normal human
- If gay, would not rather date Jean Grey as opposed to Scott Summers
- would not be cool with being on a date with one of the X-men, because he's a mutant (or at least someone born with powers) as well
- would surprise people robbing a bank because people think he's heroic
- did not debut prior to Crisis
- belongs to a super-team, which debuted before Crisis and has the word "Justice" in its name. Said team is not the Justice Society, but the Justice League
- has not been a member of another super team
- DC comics has never published a solo comic starring this character
- not King Chimera, Ray II, Blue Jay

I wonder if some of the clues are confusing. I did review them again to be sure I phrased them correctly!
It's just lack of familiarity with JLers introduced post-Crisis for me. All the ones I keep thinking of don't fit the won't survive being pushed out of an airplane clue.
Yeah, looking back there are very few JLers - only two I can think of at the moment! - who could fit all these clues.
Did this member join after DC52?
nope
Did this character join the Justice League prior to Zero Hour?

Is it General Glory?
yes it is!

he wasn’t born with his powers, but got them from Lady Liberty
he’s strong, but not invulnerable enough to survive falling from a plane
I wasn't really sure what his powers were.
I would describe him as Captain America without the shield and leadership ability, but with plenty of ham
Weird that they would give him Miss America's origin, after they retconned Miss America's to be something else.

It is Flygirl!

Actress Kim Brand was rescued by the Fly, later becoming endowed with the same mystical insect powers as him by other dimensional fly people, and since has since become a largely independent character due to The Fly being owned by Joe Simon.

The brief DC Comics incarnation had a much different origin, being a tech user with no intrinsic powers. Her daughter, Kelly Brand, has taken over for her as Flygirl in the recent relaunches of the Crusaders comics published by Archie/Red Circle.
I am thinking of a DC character

This went longer than I thought it would once it was determined to be a fairly new character.
Well, I buy almost no comic books anymore, ever since DC cancelled the few I was buying...wow, it's 4 years already. Time flies. So I wouldn't know very new characters very well.

Well Gotham Girl and her brother Gotham were introduced in Batman. They gained superpowers.(I forget how) And inspired by Batman became heroes. The brother went crazy and died. (Hence the probably not well received by the police) She was then abused by the Psycho Pirate
I was only a vaguely aware of Gotham Girl's existence, but I knew she was a Gotham-based hero with super-powers, so...

FWIW, I have no idea who Tam Fox is.

I'm *not* thinking of a DC character, but go ahead and ask questions, and I'll answer them when I come up with someone. wink
Tam Fox is Lucius Fox's daughter, and she's been part of Tim Drake's supporting cast. I didn't recall her having powers, but I really wasn't sure who the new Gotham super-hero might be, so I took a flyer.

Hmm... I'll give a qualified no to that. The character does not have the power of flight in the traditional sense, though an argument could be made for his having that ability in a very wide sense.

Was he a member of the Justice League for more than a year's worth of comic book issues?
Yes, his pre-Crisis tenure in the Justice League lasts more than a year's worth of issues.
Man, this is a serious stumper...is he a member of the Justice League only on the Earth-dimension to which he is native?
Pre-Crisis, yes.
IS it Wildcat of Earth-B?
No, but you're on the right track.
Is it someone from Earth-B?
Yeah, I think this character is usually considered as being from Earth-B. He is certainly featured in stories that are not-quite-Earth-1, and written by one of the creators associated with Earth-B.

Is there an Earth-2 version of this character?

No, this character does not exist on Earth-2.

HINT: This character is not particularly obscure, and would probably be more recognizable (at least to the average member of Generation X) than most of the characters guessed so far.
Does a version of this character exist in the main post-Crisis universe, prior to Flashpoint?
Yes!
Was this character a member of the Justice League (any variation) Post-Crisis, prior to Flashpoint?
Yes.
Was it Zan of the Wonder Twins?
Yes!
Whew...that was a toughie! All right, I'm thinking of a DCU character.

If your character robbed a bank would people be shocked because that's not what heroes do?
My character was born on Earth a human being.

People would not be shocked by my character doing villainous deeds.
If your character were to rob a bank, might they do so using intrinsic powers not possessed by ordinary humans?
They very well might be seen using such powers.
Is your character male, because I'm too tired to phrase it as a hypothetical?
My character, who is a human being born on earth with powers beyond those of an ordinary human being which are used in villainous activities is male.
Is this character native to one of the five Earths that merged at the end of Crisis?
He is native to one of the five Earths that merged to form the post-Crisis Earth.
Is he native to Earth-2?
Does your character cavort with like-minded individuals, themselves possessing extraordinary abilities, in a named group?
He is native to Earth-2, and he did not cavort with like-minded individuals in an organized group.
When performing villainous deeds on Earth-2, was this character typically opposed by either the JSA as a whole, or one of its (pre-Crisis) members?
This character was indeed typically (well, typically as far as I can tell) opposed by the JSA or one of its pre-Crisis members.
Is this character's powers physical in nature??
I would say his powers are not physical in nature.
Is this character's powers magical in nature?
Did this character appear prior to the debut of Barry Allen in Showcase #4?
Did this character battle the All-Star Squadron?
Does your character use a villainous alias or code name?

Sorry, been away for a few days. Kids had mid-winter vacation, and that means no computer for me.

This character's powers are magical in nature.

This character did not appear prior to the debut of Barry Allen in Showcase # 4.

This character did not battle the All-Star Squadron.

This character does use a villainous alias/code name.

Has the character teamed up with Batman?
Not that I know of. But this question is often more difficult to answer than one would think. This character has definitely been in a battle/fight that Batman was also in.

Would some call them an Evil Genius?
Is this scientist male?
does this character have powers beyond those of a normal human?
Has this scientist worked for STAR labs?
The scientist is male. He would be referred to as an evil genius. I believe that at present, he would be said to have powers beyond those of a normal human, though that's open to interpretation, and for much of his history this was not true.
I do not believe this scientists was ever an employee of STAR Labs, but it would not surprise me if there were a story in which they availed themselves of his services.
Does this evil scientist routinely fight a member of the Justice League?
Is your evil scientist from Earth?
Is it the Key?
Darn it, I could swear I had correctly stated that he would NOT be referred to as an evil genius. I am ignoring the last three posts, which were based on that incorrect answer.

Hmmm. Depends which JL origin you are thinking of. If you are thinking of the pre-crisis version then yes. However post crisis no. In fact much of the time that this character (who is a post-crisis character) interacted with the future League member was before they joined the League, but the occasional interaction has continued. Clear? (Ha!)
