Today in history, on September 22nd, an American patriot was hanged for spying.
Name the patriot and the year.
"My only regret is that I have but one life to give for my country"
Nathan Hale was executed on this day in 1776 by the British for spying for the United States.
There is a memorial of him at Yale University, at his old dormitory, that the public is not allowed to have access too. Since I used to work there in the summers (Yale is five minutes away from me), I got to see it, and it is very cool.
He's Connecticut's official state hero!
I had a feeling you would take a shine to this thread. I'll endeavor to challenge you better.
Sounds good to me
Today in history, on Sept. 22nd, this person attempted to assasinate this U.S. President Gerald Ford.
Name the assassin and the year.
Bonus: Can you also name the person who attempted an assassination of Ford 17 days earlier?
....I am not the computer genius that Scott is, so I can't Google the answer... So is it Squeeky Fhrome in 1974??? From memory (cuz I'm so damn old) and if I'm wrong... that's cuz I'm old too hahahahaha
I applaud you for working from memory as I'm sure many will take the easy route (casts an accusatory glance towards Cobalt) but that isn't
quite correct, beauteous Raven.
Lynnette "Squeaky" Fromme
IS the name of the assassin from the bonus question, though! You were definitely in the ballpark, if not inches from the dugout!
On a side note... I wonder why they called her Squeaky.
There was no googling
. I just happen to have been brushing up on my Revolutionary history these last few years...
"Squeaky" was one of Charles Manson's mainstay members of the Manson family, and one of the few that didn't ever get to go to jail. Until of course, she attempted to assassinate the president. Some say it was on her own accord (most likely), but it was definately to usher in the new age that Charlie Manson convinced her of half a decade earlier.
She has her own website, which is pretty creepy too. (I've always been fascinated by Manson and other seriel killers, it used to be a hobby of mine to read up on them).
Can't say I know the answer to the first question though without doing a google check.

On a side note... I wonder why they called her Squeaky. I believe the second assassin (today's) was Sara Jane (or Jean) Moore.
In one of the attempts, the man who stopped the assassin, was later outed as being gay by the mainstream media.
Yes, Quis, Sara Jane Moor was the assassin on Sept. 22nd.
But what was the year?
1975
And Squeaky got her knickname when the old man who owned the ranch the Family took over, George Spahn I think was his name, gave it to her. He took a liking to her and would try to grope her when he could. When he did, she would 'squeak'.
Correct, Scott! And thanks for the Squeaky info.
Today in Beatles history, on Sept. 23rd, the Beatles recorded 45 takes of "Happiness Is a Warm Gun."

Big time, possibly above all other bands.

What year was it? Hmm... I believe he came to power in the mid-1920s. 1924?
Perhaps, but the clue says "re-established."
And since it's the 24th now and I should post a new clue I'll go ahead and answer it.
The year was 1943.
Oh. I thought the "re-established" referred to the fact that Mussolini claimed to be re-establishing the Roman Republic, complete with its symbol, the fasces. I guess the "Northern Italy" part should have clued me in, though.

I don't know the year (guess 1964) But the song is that Halloween classic "The Monster Mash" (It was a graveyard smash!)

Quis you got the song title and you are very close to the year.

Name the year and the program's original title. Sorry to keep guessing the year, but I'm bad at the year portion.
I'd guess 1965 as the year
The title was The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle

The title was The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle [/b] You're close on both counts, Quis but neither is accurate. Googling isn't against the rules.
I figured googling isn't allowed

Condolences, biZARRO! You were incorrect about the title but, happily, you were correct about the year.
(In non-Bizarro - the title is correct, but not the year)
Perhaps 1959 is the year that the show debuted on ABC, but I'm asking for the later year in which it debuted on NBC.
Me am tricky

That's an individual call, IMO, Quis. Obviously it'll ruin the game if someone/everyone Googles the answer within 30 seconds, but if one guesses and then Googles, it shouldn't be a big deal.

biZARRO nO. 1 correctly guessed the TV program's title as Rocky & His Friends. The year, however, that the show debuted on NBC was 1962. Sept. 24th, 1962.
Today in music history, on Sept. 25th, this musical opened on Broadway. The work was the third collaboration of Tim Rice and Andre Lloyd Weber.

Name the project.
Wasn't that a Pauley Shore movie? You're on the right track, though.
The correct answer was Biosphere II.
Today in Beatles history, on Sept. 30th, it was 1977 and Ringo Starr released the album titled
?Also, on Sept. 30th, in 1988,
this Beatle receieved a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Name the album's title in the first question and the Beatle's name in the second
I would guess that the album was "Ringo" and that the Beatle who received the star was Ringo himself. (He was the only one who pursued an acting career.)
Can anyone pose a question? If so, here's mine:
On this day in 1947, one of Britain's premier glam rock stars was born.
Who is he and what eventually became of him?
Would that be Marc Bolan of T Rex? And by 'eventually became of him' are you referring to his death in an auto accident in 1976 or 1977?
Correct, Scott. Bolin died two weeks before his 30th birthday in 1977.
YES, please! EVERYONE is welcome to ask or start a question/puzzle in ANY of my game threads. I wish more people would *tee hee*
By the way, HWW, it was John Lennon who got the star.
Today, in history, a former US President won a major, international award. Who was the president and what was the award?
Bonus: In what year did he win it?
It was Carter. But what was the award?
That's the prize. Care to take a guess at the year?
You are about a generation off.
Close enough. It was in 2002.

Today, Halloween, also marks the 67th birthday of the second youngest actor to be a regular on M*A*S*H. Name the actor.
Nope. Christopher, born Oct. 20, 1932, just turned 77. (Yes, he looked much younger than he really was on the show.)
