Hi everybody! I haven't been here in ages. So, of course, I return when I want something! Don't you all just feel special?

...

No, but seriously, I do need some help. I'm making a storyline index for my own personal use, but I'm doing it for all sorts of comics. Which means that this is a pretty big undertaking, and I thought, hey, maybe people who know even more about the Legion than I do might be willing to help out with the Legion section of this!

Basically, I'm taking the various runs and putting them in a good reading order. I value publication date over chronological order, unless they were published right around the same time, then I can fudge things a bit (so, for instance, the current Adventure Comics run doing the "Early Years" would be chronicled right now, concurrent with the current LSH title and REBELS, instead of way back with the Silver Age stuff. And along the same lines, REBELS alternates with LSH and Adventure Comics--it doesn't go way in the front, before anything else.)

For the early stuff, I tend to just shove it into a big "Silver Age" category until I start getting into actual storylines (I'd probably consider "The Death of Ferro Lad" the first real storyline, as it goes through a few issues from his introduction to death, but I may be missing something). After that, I like to separate things by storyline, and if there's a chunk of issues that don't fit into storylines, I usually just label them as an "Untitled" arc for convenience.

Does this make sense? Obviously it's a pretty crazy thing, but I have fun doing it, so I thought maybe a few of you might be willing to help me out. Like I said, I'm making these indexes for all sorts of things, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! If you want to help and have any questions, I'll obviously answer them smile

(If this isn't allowed, or it's in the wrong place, tell me and I will apologize profusely.)

I'd go with "The Death and Resurrection of Lightning Lad" as the first real ongoing storyline. There's also the ongoing Time Trapper storyline.

You're right--I forgot that, even though he died in one issue and was returned quite a few issues later, almost every issue in between had somebody reference Lightning Lad and swear they'd find a way to bring him back. I'd consider that a storyline!

You also get the "fake resurrection" which give us Lightning Lass.

It's actually amazing how early on the Legion was pioneering multi-issue storytelling.

Going through the older issues, I'd hesitate to really classify the Time Trapper stuff as a storyline, just because of how spread apart the issues were. You've got his introductory issue (well, two issues, I guess, maybe), and then a few issues of filler, and then another issue, and then even more filler...rinse and repeat, with the appearances becoming even more spread out.

I'm sort of intrigued how many Legion issues towards the end of 1964 and the beginning of 1965 dealt with "dark Legionnaires", though. You've got the Legion of Super Outlaws, the Revolt of the Girl Legionnaires, Superboy and the Five Legion Traitors, the Lad Who Wrecked the Legion, the Bizarro-Legion...and then the (re)birth of the Legion of Super-Villains.

....okay, I guess I've never read Adventure Comics 361 before. Maybe something in there explains it. But from all the summaries I'm finding.....wtfffffff.

So. The Unkillables. Is there...actually like, a resolution to the story?

Because it seems to end with the Legion learning that the people they were fighting were just holographic constructs designed to distract them while the real villains reached Earth.

...and then in the next issue there's a whole new story.

What?

It's been awhile since I've read it, but I believe the people they are guarding turn out to be the holographic constructs, while the real ambassadors reach Earth.

Aaaand now I'm having trouble placing the Karate Kid series. Help?

I know that the first ten issues take place before Superboy & the LoSH 231, but when does Karate Kid leave the title to go to his own series? He appears with some regularity until Superboy 216, although he appears in a crowd scene at the end of 218. Then he has a bit of a recess until Superboy 223/224 for Shooter's final story...and then Levitz takes over and Karate Kid is next seen making his return in 231.

So did I just answer my own question? Do Karate Kid 1-10 take place between Superboy 224 and Superboy & the LoSH 231?

That looks to be a safe bet.
