Okay. I admit it. I'm now waiting for the Giant-Sized Fruit Boy Special, with twelve special collectors' covers!

A continuing series is probably too much to hope for at this point but....

I just realized something.

It has been *forever* since the Legion has had a truly new member.

Who have been the new Legionnaires recently?

- Yera, as Chameleon Girl, may have just had her membership in the revival Legion revealed, but a) she's been around forever, and b) her name, powers and origin are a variation on Chameleon Boy
- Night Girl's membership has just been revealed, but she's been around forever
- Nemesis Kid just joined the cartoon Legion and became a legitimate Legionnaire (which I don't consider him to have been before) but he's been around forever
- Superman-X recently joined the cartoon Legion but he's a variation on Superman/Superboy
- Dream Boy is the only original-ish member of the threeboot Legion, and he's a variation on Dream Girl
- all others to join the cartoon or threeboot Legions were already existing Legion characters
- the last member to join the reboot Legion was Superboy (Kon-El), who's basically a variation on Superboy (Kal-El)
- Shikari might count as the last really original new Legionnaire, unless you think she's too much like Dawnstar for that to be true
- if not Shikari, then Gear has to be the last really original new Legionnaire. That's a long time ago!

Bah! Gear is just a poor Danielle Foccart knockoff!

Same with Shikari and Dawnstar, really.

Last completely original Legionnaires from my generation would be Quislet and Tellus. After my generation I'd have to go with Gates, Monstress, Thunder, XS, Kinetix, etc. I don't know anything about that iteration, but they all seemed original-ish (granted, Thunder and XS were legacies from the 20th).

XS to me always seemed as the lamest of lame characters imaginable... kind of been there, done that, oh my, how much this new Legion needed a speedster... yawn...

But I confess that my abysmal hatred for the XS character probably only reflects the feelings I had for the reboot as a whole back in 94. She was the first new character -> she was the enemy

Never got over that, even today.

As for original new members, it's hard to imagine a totally new superpower - I think everything has been here already, unless you invent something totally obscure like... Fruit Boy! And even he is just a fruit analogy to Chlorophyll Kid...
