Does dividing according to Ages/boots even tell anything? After all, all those Legionnaires who have multiple versions of themselves running around (no, not in the Triplicate Girl sense) are able to harvest the affections belonging to every poster's favourite 'boot, while the truly singular Legionnaires don't stand a chance against those greedy attention-hogs!

Yeah, it probably has a lot to do with those folks being around in every 'boot, rather than the fact that they were specifically Silver Age.

Dawnstar and XS are the interesting results, with the former being solely (well, primarily at least) a Bronze Age member, and the latter being solely a Post-Boot member. Interestingly, Dawnstar didn't do nearly as well in the other polls, while XS has been a consistently strong finisher.

No slight intended by dividing the 50% vote-getters by the era in which they first joined... after all, I'm a fan of all eras, even the crappy ones.

Even in a poll of Top 25 Legionnaires Gim can't get no love!?!

He was one of my 25 picks... along with fellow under 50%-vote-getters Tenzil, Chuck, Drura, Danielle and April... long live the Legion of Under-Appreciated Legionnaires!

Odd (for me) to see longtime Legionnaires like Star Boy, Jeckie and Karate Kid at less than 50%, especially with the amount of play they've gotten recently.

It seems to me the general formula for the most popular Legionnaires is Positive Exposure.

The Legionnaires doing well are generally the ones who have had a lot of panel time and have been treated relatively well by writers.

Conversely, characters like Karate Kid and Colossal Boy suffering multiple deaths, Star Boy with schizophrenia and radical reboot makeovers in appearance, and Jeckie, Mon-El, Sun Boy, Bouncing Boy and M-E Lad who have had long runs of non-membership all suffer in popularity IMO.

The other later characters introduced generally just haven't been around long enough to work into the top 25.

I still prefer Shikari to Dawnstar, the Post-Boot Gates, XS, Umbra, Dream Girl, Triad, Light Lass & Lad, Wildfire, Ultra Boy, Timbor Wolf, Brainy and Saturn Girl.
But I miss the Silver Age Supergirl, White Witch, Mon-el and Element Lad.
But with a few exceptions, I voted for the girls.

I can't believe it but yeah, I've finally realized I do indeed like Blok more that Luornu, Gim Allon and Timberwolf! Jeepers!

Jillikers! At least 8 people voted for Nemesis Kid! I don't know if that's kewl or just blood-thirsty!

If I'm counting right, 17 characters are in the 50% or better club.

I'm tickled to see Gates and XS right there knocking on the door with 49% each.

That's almost three times as many as voted for Magnetic Kid...

Pol worked best when, uh...er, he was an undead master of magnetism working for Mordru

Or when committing suicide in an attempt to fend off Ayla's unwanted advances as she struggled in vain to cling to the last dangling tatters of her heterosexuality!

Unfortunately, lots of young gay men do that before they realize there is a better way... getting a boyfriend.

Longtime LSH fans know, however, that Ayla's badgering of li'l gay Pol was a revenge scheme to make Rokk suffer for that slap he gave her years before.

Hmm... Pol, Dream Boy, and Kell-El are the lowest scorers, once again proving that Legion fans are biased against gay characters brought in to substitute for longtime Legionnaires!

Even longertime Legion World fans know further that Rokk's slap of Ayla ensues from a slap fetish that is the result of of slap-torture by Tharok years earlier in the first meeting by the Fatal Five. Thus, not only did Tharok screw up Rokk and indirectly Ayla, he double-indirectly caused events to lead to Pol's death!

Er, anyway, I wonder how the inverse of Eryk's theory works? How did Jacques, a strait character brought in to sub for a longtime gay Legionnaire, fair? Obviously, since said Legionnaire was dead by then, there might be a difference.

Of course, Tenzil could eat the other candidates on the ballot to ensure victory. Maybe that's how he made it in Bismollian politics (the cover story about being drafted into government service notwithstanding)?
