*shakes head* So when's the "Bring back that guy on p5, panel 3 of SLSH245" thread? PS: I have no idea who or what's in panel 3 on p5 of SLSH245

Reboot - Don't let the fact that you're all bitter and twisted about the 're-imagining' spoil it for the rest of us!
Face facts - this 're-imagining' is happening whether you like it or not. Now you could approach this news the way we have - with a thread requesting the membership of a reboot character that you like or the return of certain elements of the reboot that you were a fan of... or you could hang around making facetious comments like the above one and basically behaving like a troll. The choice is yours.
Anyway, well done MLLASH for starting this thread! I would've done it myself but I don't know how. Hopefully others will post here and Barry will read it. And since third time's lucky (and to show Reboot the difference between Chuck and that guy on p5, panel 3 of SLSH245) here's a repeat of what I posted on the other threads -
BARRY!!!
I just read on the DCMB that its you who's holding up the re-introduction of Bouncing Boy! Apparently Mark wants him in and you don't! What can I do to make you change your mind?!?
Bouncing Boy is a fantastic character - not only is he visually probably the most original character EVER but his power is super-cool and FUN, his personality is charming and endearing and by being slightly larger in the stomach than most other heroes he lends a touch of diversity and realism to this series that most other comics don't have. Not only that but if you look at the many Legion Survivor games that have taken place on this board you'll see that Chuck, as one of the more popular members, always finishes near the top! The fans want him back!
Let's face it - Bouncing Boy is one of the most original and easily recognisable members of this team and needs to be a permanent member ASAP! Please listen to Mark and consider bringing him back.

Sure, I'd like to see BB back. He's a gas.
But where are the Luornu, Lyle and Tenzil threads? The creators have been mute about those characters!

As much as I love Chuck, I thinked I'd prefer Matter-Eater Lad on the team.
Every team needs a Gar Logan-esque funny guy and the Tenz is the only past legionnaire who could pull such a role off.

If we want BB onto the team for obese representation why not shake things up a bit and use Sugyn instead?
What he has over our beloved Chuck: * A moustache * A kewl viking helmet * I argue that spitting water at stuff is a more visually interesting power than bouncing.
What Chuck has over Sugyn * "Look! Bouncing Boy is fat again! Hurray!" When has Sugyn ever illicited such a classic response from another character?

*Gasp*! What if Mark and Barry decided to make the new Legion really inclusive by having... two fat people!

How 'bout if Chuck turns into the *ship* BOUNCING BOY? Like a transformer, sort of. A mechamorph.
Silly fan boys go for hard and impenetrable... don't have to think about soft, blubbery flesh, that way.

Just ONCE I'd like to see Chuck save the day by bouncing smack into Mordru and knocking him into a building, burying him.

Don't kill me guys. I honestly DO LOVE THE LEGION and not the way Waid does. I want what is best for the Legion. I don't mind having Chuck Taine and Tenzil around but as Bouncing Boy and Matter-Eater Lad? I think it just feeds that violent comic cycle of catering to a sub-culture to the point of obscurity. I like you all but if some of you wrote the Legion...well the same 5 of you that respond to each others post would be the only ones reading it. But I love you all nontheless. Legion needs to escape their own obscure subculture...sadly they can't escape Waid's obscure subculture ego. Jorge

Oh dear. WHEN will the super-serious fanboys realize that a little bit of silliness is NOT a bad thing? WHEN!!!???!?
NO POINT OF LEGION HISTORY HAS EVER BEEN WITHOUT SOME DEGREE OF SILLINESS. Even the super-depressing TMK.

JorgeAnd despite your claims of "liking you all" and your winky-smiley, this sounds very much like an insult.

It's not an insult and sorry if you took it that way.
You want a character that bounces into a big ball or something.
I rather have Chuck Taine. He was more interesting as a chubby guy than a bouncing ball.
There are many things from the old Legion I would love to have but I think of the kids reading comics today versus my personal wants.
Besides if all those old silly things show up I won't have a reason to buy the Legion Archives.
I won't wink at you anymore.

You may not have meant it as an insult but it was at the very least WAY condescending.
What makes you think kids reading comics today wouldn't want to have a little fun? Must everything be blood, guts and raped superheroines?
What is wrong with a guy who can balloon and bounce?

Hmm... just *how* much more popular were comics in the Silver Age than they are today?

I agree that Chuck should definitely be a Legionnaire again. Does he have to inflate ala balloon as in the old days? No. His bulky frame combined with kinetic bouncing powers (ala Speedball) or even ape-like bounding powers (ala Beast) would satisfy me. It's not Chuck's powers that impress me, it's his 40 plus years of characterization that I don't want to give up. But, to address the gist of the Lash/Ultra Cy debate. The Legion welcomes silliness in every era, as Lash said. Even Waid's return to 'boy/girl/lad/lass/kid' names is generally seen as silly. That's probably a big part of the point he'll be making. Shaking up old guard expectations with a youth movement of costumes and silly names. If you don't like silly, perhaps the X-Men is your cup o' tea?

I seem to recall suggesting recently that someone posting above lighten up on another thread ... hmmm What "insult" is involved in suggesting that a few people can end up largely talking to each other? That's an empirical observation. If anything, it understates what happens on most threads at most forums. Interest rises only among a few on any one character, artist, story, or situation. Few items cut across those lines. (The coming reboot-or-not is certainly one of them.) It'd be easier if we simply realized that even a thread topic meant with a facetious wink, or with cheerful exaggeration, can easily get serious thoughts attached to it. God knows it happens often enough in the OTHER direction!

Oh, and to address the topic ... what a concept ... I'd prefer to have Chuck Taine be the Legion auxiliary that he was, engineer and witty outside-the-inner-circle commentator on the action. That kind of role was long overdue, and is something I'll miss if Waid gives it up. Bouncing Boy, by contrast, was given dignity and depth (comic and otherwise) by Paul Levitz, nobody else has quite managed it the same way, and I'm not too confident that this is among Waid's strengths.
