Hey guys. I snagged a copy of the new hardcover edition for L3W, and it's got a lot of info from the original proposal regarding what Johns sought to do with Legion of 3 Worlds and the Legion moving forward.
XS and Impulse's family fled to Earth-247 specifically because they were trying to escape the Dominators. There's no mention anywhere about the Reverse-Flash, so I doubt he was involved regarding what the "original" case of the three Legions was about.
There was no mention at all of R.J. Brande being killed. The United Planets is thrown into chaos specifically due to Prime's onslaught as he rebuilds the LSV and declared he would destroy any who support the "false" Superman.
The Time Trapper was only using Prime to distract the Legion from taking care of a more pressing concern, instead of trying to destroy them once and for all. While the Trapper's identity was going to be revealed, Johns doesn't say it was Prime.
Darkseid apparently had something to do with destroying the Green Lantern Corps. The series would've tied in a bit more to Final Crisis, including Supergirl being brought to the future to help the Legion as well.
The Reboot Legion would've been disturbed by the knowledge they were doppelgangers, and after being trapped in limbo would've been recklessly willing to sacrifice themselves on the belief their time was running out.
The Threeboot Legion would've hated their adult counterparts and had to learn to trust them, so it looks like there would've been more interactions between the Legionnaires beyond the three Brainys.
Lex Luthor would've been brought to the future by the Reboot Legion to clone Conner Kent, instead of just reviving him. This would explain why he was included in the original promo image for L3W despite only making an actual appearance in the series as a teen in the past.
The core Legionnaires who got focus would've been the Action Comics cast, for the Reboot it was Jazmin, Gates, XS, Brainy, and Shikari, and the Threeboot would've been Tasmia, Tinya, Jo, and Thom. The founders for all three versions would've been in the spotlight too.
Johns wanted to do a Secret Files issue for Superman and the Legion, and another for Prime and the LSV. He also wanted to return to Teen Titans to write about Conner and Bart reunited with Cassie and Tim.
A Kid Flash series was proposed featuring Jenni following Bart back to the present to help him deal with his trauma and return to his fun loving personality.
Conner would've possibly used a different name like Super-Son due to the rights situation.
A Superman and the Legion series was proposed as like an opposite to Batman and the Outsiders.
Lightning Lad would've gotten jealous over Imra spending time with Rokk.

Well, that sounds awful. Lightning Lad would've gotten jealous over Imra spending time with Rokk I hate this as well. A Superman and the Legion series was proposed as like an opposite to Batman and the Outsiders. I do kind of like this idea. .

thanks for sharing, Sarky! The Reboot Legion would've been disturbed by the knowledge they were doppelgangers, and after being trapped in limbo would've been recklessly willing to sacrifice themselves on the belief their time was running out. Well, that sounds awful. . fully agree. UGH. also, doppelgangers of what? all 3 Legions are from different universes! (and I still hate that Earth-247 was lost..) There was no mention at all of R.J. Brande being killed.
. Alas, poor RJ, what could have been. The Time Trapper was only using Prime to distract the Legion from taking care of a more pressing concern, instead of trying to destroy them once and for all. While the Trapper's identity was going to be revealed, Johns doesn't say it was Prime.
. I think I would have liked this more. I still find it hard to reconcile that the Trapper was a future Prime; mostly from how the Trapper acted all different until he was unmasked... then he became an older babbling Prime. including Supergirl being brought to the future to help the Legion as well.
. that would have been nice. Supergirl would have been safe anyway... The Threeboot Legion would've hated their adult counterparts and had to learn to trust them, so it looks like there would've been more interactions between the Legionnaires beyond the three Brainys.
. the differences between the Legions could definitely have been done better. The Three Brainys bickering just seemed so childish, especially because there were few other examples of other Legionnaires butting heads over their different philosophies (esp. Retro adults vs. Threeboot teens). Lex Luthor would've been brought to the future by the Reboot Legion to clone Conner Kent, instead of just reviving him. This would explain why he was included in the original promo image for L3W despite only making an actual appearance in the series as a teen in the past. ...eh. As if Luthor is trustworthy. Jazmin was definitely shafted, esp. as she was the Reboot leader at the time. Besides Brainy, (and let's not argue about Shikari please) these Reboot picks don't have counterparts... I personally can't stand Threeboot Jo, he acted more like the popular bullies that I loathed as a kid. I wonder why these four from the Threeboot... A Kid Flash series was proposed featuring Jenni following Bart back to the present to help him deal with his trauma and return to his fun loving personality. Makes more sense than shunting Jenni off to the Academy, and her making that weird mosaic, then doing absolutely nothing else...

Also, Rond Vidar was still going to be killed off but in the third issue when Prime was in the process of freeing Universo. That's the only confirmed death mentioned in the original proposal.
There was also no mention at all of the Black Witch stuff.
It makes me wonder exactly how much of the deaths that DID happen in L3W were Johns or Didio, especially realizing the Flash Rebirth stuff wasn't part of it either. I think Johns had no idea Morrison was bringing Barry back, or that it was supposed to be permanent.

Yeah but remember how many delays there were when the Final Crisis issues were coming out? It's entirely likely Flash Rebirth was formulated during the delays. Didio and Ethan Van Sciver most likely took advantage of it to bring Barry back permanently.

I don't know. It sounds exactly like Johns's MO to me, considering he had already brought Hal back and was in the process of retrobooting the Legion. Resetting things to the late Bronze Age while screwing them up in the process is kind of his signature move.

Ehhh I don't know, because I feel like if Johns had really wanted to do that he would've probably done it in his Flash run. Like we all know Flashpoint wasn't conceived to reboot everything. It was supposed to be another storyarc in the new Flash series and then Didio hijacked it and turned it into an event.

I personally can't stand Threeboot Jo, he acted more like the popular bullies that I loathed as a kid. I wonder why these four from the Threeboot... Tinya and Thom (along with Gim and Ayla) seemed the *nicest* of the Threeboot team. I remember commenting at the time, that when Sun Boy returned, those four were the four who stood up, happy to see him back, and throughout the series often seemed least 'grumpy' or prone to fighting with their team-members. If the Threeboot were going to have a 'Diplomacy Squad,' I'd totally pick Thom and Tinya, at least to be on them, but wow, not Tasmia or Jo... (or Brainy!)

I would love some stories focused on Threeboot Thom, Tinya, Ayla and Gim! Maybe add Val and Nura to the mix.

Val definitely. He also seemed friendly and optimistic (if a bit overly proud of his capabilities, which is fine, nobody needs to be perfect!). It's not like 'classic' continuity Val is going to see any more development! Perhaps the best thing about AUs like the Reboot and Threeboot (in addition to the fun original characters like Kid Quantum II and Gazelle!) is getting to see some development for characters like Lyle, Condo or Douglas, that won't get to be developed any further in the original continuity. Nura, while I love her to bits, like Shady, is not always terribly diplomatic... (Nura doing diplomacy would be like watching Star Trek: the Next Generation and thinking, "Lwaxana Troi is your planet's *diplomat?* Do you *want* everybody to hate Betazoids?")
