So... whaddya think? Was he experimented on by a scientist father? Did he accidentally consume radioactive mousse? Or was he just a plain mutant, like Plaid Lad?

Too bad Spider Girl was all reformed and stuff when he made his debut, because she'd be a natural arch-enemy!

The traditional reason one evolves funky powers is to adapt to some utterly bizarre situation, such as the Braalians gaining magnetic powers to protect themselves from metal monsters.

So perhaps Barber Boy comes from a world where hair is dangerous. The planet has a high degree of ambient static electricity, and giant furry monsters use their animate hair to ensnare and static shock their prey to unconsciousness. Barber Boy is a local mutant hero, with the ability to super-shear the menacing monsters!

I would say that Barber Boy spent years of training a la Karate Kid. BB's mentor/master was Anton. Anton was killed by a student of his (and rival of Barber Boy) who has taken the name Bad Hair Day.

Remind me... were Barber Boy's hands scissors, or did he hold scissors... of space? This will naturally influence his origin.

Barber Boy picture

It appears that his right hand, at least, has been replaced with scissors.

That plus the mousse vision has me leaning towards "experimented on by scientist father"!

If you practice hard enough, anyone can have mousse vision

It looks like the shears were added to the end of his arm, not natural or mutated.

I'm thinking he gave a bad haircut to a nasty customer - Nardo? Tharok? A Khund? A Dominator? Naturally, the consequence would be that his hand was chopped off.

His left hand holds a spray bottle of some sort of product. Naturally, I believe it's Inertron Brand Hair Spray, but it could be water or who know what else.

I believe that after losing his hand, he was surgically enhanced with the shears and the mousse vision. I'm leaning more and more toward his angry client being Tharok or some other mad scientist.

Isn't Tharok from a race of bald people?

Other powers Barber Boy should have besides scissorhand and mousse vision?

What if Barber Boy can control hair? Like Spider-Girl does with her own hair. Except Barber Boy can control other peoples' hair!

Well, not control per se, but he can re-style and re-shape telekinetically. He can make it longer or shorter... imagine him using it on someone, making their hair super long, and they trip and fall...

but the tragedy is, his power does not work on his own hair! he's balding and can't do anything about it

Didn't think about it until I just read it here! Universo, also bald. Pulsar Stargrave, probably Darkseid. I thought we might have a trend, but that's about it.

Which could put him in the villain camp along with the Fatal Five.

I'm digging this new villainous take on Barber Boy! No doubt the impressive head of hair he seems to possess in his appearance is in fact a wig!

Not to be mistaken for moose vision.

Barber Boy could make every day a bad hair day. Not exactly a show stopper, but it could be distracting.
