Thank you Darden, I really like the fact that you're looking at all our work in these art threads and we always appreciate comments more than you guys know. A simple something from the audience means a lot to us. Yeah, we've started sharing and debating techniques but you can just ignore all that and enjoy the pics...at least wer're hoping people are enjoying them. Also I love doing those Jim Mooney Supergirl sketches, I have another one that's being worked on but it's unfinished. The real temptation with Mooney is to do it like he drew it (with Kara naked) if you'll look very closely you can see the body lines of the sketch and it's so tempting to do an adult version...but I didn't. All that said, I thought I'd mess around with the Jim Lee Legion sketches a little bit. Here's the first of (maybe) a series of those. ![[Linked Image]](http://img116.exs.cx/img116/34/UltraBoy2_JimLee.png)

A little doodle of the "new" Ultra Boy. Glad Barry kept the same basic costume. Kinda hard to improve on this classic. ![[Linked Image]](http://img106.exs.cx/img106/984/ultraboy1gr.th.jpg)

Yeah, I think I like the Barry's Ultra Boy better than I like Jim's. I like the look when the chest emblem is larger and spreads across the front. Jim Lee's is pretty cool too though. Polar Boy (the poster) showed us a Supergirl pic by one of the Moys that I hadn't seen before and it made me want to futz around with it and try something. It refused to cooperate with me (darnit) so I'm going to set it aside and play with it again later but here's what I got out of it so far... ![[Linked Image]](http://img64.exs.cx/img64/8756/Laurel7.png) Hey, I thought it was a cute idea.

Well, it doesn't look like Laurel, but it's cute What's happening with leaving the white edges on the lines though? I thought you'd got past that with the Mooney sketch (hell, it's easier to just set up a multiply layer and paint over internal lines than it is to try and colour "up to the line" like you're doing)

Tolja..I'm fighting the wrong battle here. I have to set it aside and rethink my approach on this one.

![[Linked Image]](http://img65.exs.cx/img65/7682/mysterysupergirl6_JMoy.png) Ok, so she doesn't exactly look like Laurel but I didn't want to go backward and do the Supergirl. So I came up with... Imaginry Legion tryout's Mystery Girl! ---needs a big "M" on the chest, don't it?

Thank you Ari. I spent more time on that onoe than I should have but I was learning how to use a new process (new to me). I liked my working version a lot better than the finished one so I'll probably go back to it and see if I can get it to finish out a bit better. link to working image.

Preview of the Supergirl graphic I was working on yesterday. I'm not satisfied with it and I haven't done much with shadows and highlights yet but I wanted to show it off anyway. ![[Linked Image]](http://img148.exs.cx/img148/6917/Supergirl-JMoy_preview.png) I tried a couple of backgrounds but wasn't very thrilled with any of them so I may just do what you guys have been doing and modify the background Jeff drew for it...I dunno yet.

YK,
I love the Moy Supergirl one. The colours are quite light and muted yet are you planning to give em a bit more "umph" ?
as drawn by Moy she reminds me more of Laurel than Kara though.
The Mooney Kara on the previous page is nicely done as well, apart from the eye's which look "off" to me. Were you trying something different there?

Oh yeah, that's what I'm calling a "working version" and I'll have it a little more intense before I finish it. Thanks for the feedback too. The Jim Mooney-Supergirl-riding-an-asteroid was an experiment with technique, I wanted to keep the eyes sharp like they are in the sketch but maybe they're too sharp....hhhmmmm...I might see if I can fix that. -here's the sketch for comparison- ![[Linked Image]](http://img81.exs.cx/img81/928/sg_pinup_mooney.th.jpg)

thanks Art. Seeing the Mooney sketch like that made me realise its his pencils that make the eyes funny. She looks like whatever she is sitting on is making her eyes shine wide open. In your version I noticed when i went back to compare, that the whites are too white, and the pupils have no colour. (at least on my works machine) that may be what makes me notice them. sorry to sound like I'm carping, I'm not. I have no talent or skill at this sort of thing and am constantly amazed at what you, Deddy, Loser, Reboot and all the others can do with colouring programmes.

My pleasure, really. It also helps when someone has a critique of a piece where I can go back and take a look at what's not working for the audience. Feedback beyond the standard "That sucks, you boogerhead!" helps us (me anyway) polish pieces like that. I think Mr. Mooney's sketchwork deserves the best I can do...and then some. Since I posted those last two I've been working on something else (new thread) but I'll definitely get back to those two Supergirl sketches really soon and finish them off.

Thanks Polar Boy. Now it's yout turn again, got another one of those cool Moy sketches?..or something way cool we might not have seen?
...we've kind of been on a Jeff and Phil Moy kick due to White Raven and her challenges but there are plenty of other Legion sketch artists out there...anybody know where to find any Neal Adams b/w sketches of Legionnaires?
