Well, I'm bored, so I felt like thinking through this for a bit. The Time Trapper has appeared a few times post-boot, and appears to be neither good nor evil, just someone with his/her own agenda. We still don't know who he/she is, but the nostalgia in me says that if we ever find out the Trapper's identity, it'll be a surprise in that it's someone we've knownn all along.

Here is a quick list of suspects, feel free to add others that might fit:

Cosmic Boy- of course any list of possible Trapper identities must include Rokk. After him being the Trapper in the pre-boot, and after having a whole issue dedicated to the two of them talking, Cos seems like a natural candidate.

Glorith/Lori Morning- Everyone knew that Lori was introduced to one day be Glorith (just as Zoe was supposed to be the Emerald Empress), and I think Lori can only be interesting if she starts becoming Glorith. With her being thrown through time and having her own previous side-story with the Trapper, that makes her a candidate as well, where she becomes Glorith and thus the Time Trapper. Or, which I would find more interesting, is that she becomes Glorith and is a natural enemy of the Time Trapper.

Rond Vidar- Something else else about Rond always strikes me as a possible Time Trapper identity, maybe because it isn't a natural choice. But Lori's long time crush on him might explain the strange relationship between Lori and the Trapper, and could make for a cool Glorith/Time Trapper relationship. And Rond as access to Time travel. All in all though, I find this one highly unlikely.

Kid Quantum- I find this option the most interesting, since KQ is new post-boot. But her powers are very, very vague and have to do with manipulating time, so she could easily grow into the Time Trapper. Further, her current relationship with Rokk would make the traditional Cosmic Boy/Time Trapper rivalry more interesting and with a dynamic post-boot twist.

Someone we've never meant- the most likely, but hey, where's the fun in that?!

A Controller-ick! I hope not!

Anyone else have any cool ideas? Could it be Calamity King? Lester Spiffany? Ferro?

The first Kid Quantum.

Yes.

In the split second before he died, he was able to actually freeze himself in time. Had the Legion realized this, they might have been able to save him. Unfortunatly, instead they went and let his casket get blown up.

Luckily, the thieves who put the bomb in his casket first removed his body, deposting it, Hoffa-like, in an undisclosed location.

There the body remains, still frozn in time.

And time passes. And time passes. Eventually the sun elarges into a red giant, incinerating the Earth. But James cannot be destroyed completely as he is frozen in a time prior to the sun burning out.

And time passes, and time passes. And eventually the universe tries to die. The universe tries to complete it's infinate cycle of death and rebirth, but the fact that there is still of pocket or time existing which contains James a moment before he dies causes the anomoly which turns James into the Time Trapper.

See, I should really be a professional comic book writer. This stuff is so easy.

And to make matters worse, he hates Cosmic Boy! Why? Well, James' sister now is Cos's girl, and gives all her attention to him, reminding him of how he used to get it!

Maybe he hates Gym too, for leading him on the mission that got him killed? That's why, seconds before Gym died, he was able to take him away somewhere, to torture the man he hates?

Another important aspect of the Time Trapper that I forgot to mention:

The classic Mon-El/Time Trapper rivalry. It has to exist! It's just too (get ready for it...) Cool!

Hey, and Monstress is from Xanthu, so who knows what reasons he might have for hating her! So maybe he could whisk her away while she's being disentegrated as well! Heck, Jan was thrown outside time which eventually led to his becoming the Progenitor, so James could have possessed him and could have been in control of E Lad all along!

Maybe, just maybe, he could have saved Bucky before his death too, leading into the Avengers/Legion Crossover drawn by George Perez!

Oh, if we want to start with his manipulations in the Marvel Universe, don't forget about Uncle Ben!

Leading to the classic Spider-man joins the Legion issue! Eryk, we may be on to something! What if the Legion exists in the Marvel universe?

They do. Sort of. I forget their name, but they were in one of those Spider-Boy Amalgem Comics issues.

I LOVE the James idea too! Hey, maybe he whisked away the real Element Lad, Live Wire and Kinetix and replaced them all with these copies which are currently running around as Legionnaires too!

Still, it seems that the previous creative team intended for Lori to be the Trapper, since they showed an adult version of her as the Trapper in Legionnaires 64. But hey, we could always retcon it.

I like a lot of these ideas. But I have to admit if I had my way the Trapper would not be a him (or her) at all. Rather I would see a Trapper that is truly alien and has motives completely different from any of our own versions of good and evil.

Having said that I do like the idea of one of the Kid Quantum’s turning into the trapper. If it were Jaz then maybe a small part of what she became would remember her love of Rokk and the legion and try to reach through time to be with them or to have them. Sort of a twisted, stalker, type of love that is unwelcome.

The move of Lori into Glorith is interesting and the fact that the fans guessed it is neither here nor there if the writers can do a good story out of it. But can they really fit in the time trapper, Mordru and Glorith. Sometime these super superpowered villains can become too powerful and it is almost impossible to write a way for the heroes to win. So if I had to choose I would leave Glorith out of things for a long time, if we could get a good trapper story.

I kinda like the idea of the Trapper as a cosmic entity rather than a "person", but if it had to be someone we've known all along it almost makes sense for it to be Rond Vidar, what with his attempts to master time travel (and they both wear purple -- I mean c'mon! )

The Trapper being Rond or KQ (Jaz) are the ones that I like the most, but I agree that by the time the Trapper begins fighting the Legion, he/she's spent so much time as the Trapper that he/she's motives are very, very complex.

I liked Glorith as a character, and kind of like the idea of the Time Trapper, Glorith and Mordru all existing as immensely powerful enemies for the Legion with large agendas. I especially like the idea of Glorith and the Time Trapper waging an ongoing war on each other. But I see how all three of them existing at the same time as major Legion villians might be a bit much.

Yes, especially since both Glorith and the Trapper both have time powers. If I really had to pick two, it'd be the Trapper, because he/she/it is more mysterious, and Mordru, because his magic is more different from the Trapper's powers than Glorith's powers are.

Remember, though, that Glorith started out as a servant of the Trapper. I've always preferred her in the role of a potential usurper rather than an independent force, someone who is more power-hungry than powerful.

The Time Trapper is Koko.

After being left on that planet of monkeys, he super-evolved rapidly, gaining vast time-powers in the process.

I believe that in one of the Dark Circle stories, a future version of Lori Morning (Glorith) appeared and knocked out young Lori to keep her from interfering with a third person Time Trapper's plan. So I think that Lori will become Glorith, and serve the Time Trapper (at least for a time).

The Time Trapper has also shown interest in Cosmic Boy and XS. I think it's still Cosmic Boy, as I think that if anybody survived the destruction of the preboot, it was the Time Trapper. So I think that the Time Trapper is still the preboot Cosmic Boy.

My leftfield pick for Time Trapper is not a Legionnaire. I think it is the female from teh Linear Men. All the rest of the Linear men died or whatever in Zero Hour, except her. And she was left outside of the time stream.

Just my thoughts though

I forgot about XS! I have an XS theory as well, but can't post it right now (at school!). Maybe later.

What do you guys think about XS being a candidate for possible Time Trapper?

XS has gotten lost in time at least once before, so I can see it happening again. She could get herself stuck at the end of time and become the Trapper that way.

But I still think Lori is the best candidate, since, like toddcam said, a future version of hers has been shown as the trapper. Her interest in Jenni could be because Jenni was the Legionnaire she was closest to.

But hey, it could have all been an illusion or soemthing, so who knows?

With many Alternatives Legion in the middle, a good chance to bring back some favorites ones like:

One of my favorite ideas from the TMK era was that the Trapper and Mordru were kind of a cosmic balance for each other. Either was powerful enough to conquer the universe, but neither was powerful enough to destroy the other. Adding Glorith to the mix just made it all the more complex. I'd love to see some of that cosmic level stuff appear in the current series.

As for who the Trapper is, I never liked the Trapper-as-Rokk concept. In execution it was awfully contrived. I like him better as an ill-defined cosmic force. My favorite presentation of him is from LSH v4 ish.4, when he fights Mon-el. I love the image of the robes enveloping him from behind (or was that in v3 ish.50? Whatever). The Time Trapper is a demi-god-level entity; his physical form is whatever he wants it to be.

Personally I would prefer it if the Time Trapper's identity was never revealed (he worked best during the eighties when we didn't know who he was) but if I had to pick someone I would choose...
