do you see some LEGIONNAIRES as completely different characters, based on their Pre-Boot history against their revised Post-Boot history ???

and which do you think of in the same way ???

[ this is meant as a "general feeling" for the character ]

for example, my favourite character is ULTRABOY and although the Pre-Boot version is quite different than the Post-Boot, i still pretty much think about the character in the same way !!!

but to me TRIAD and INVISIBLE KID are very different from the versions i remember [ this could be due to the fact, i didn't read their, early adventures .... ]

i think of COSMIC BOY and SATURN GIRL, as pretty much the same, as their past versions !!!

so how do you view the LEGIONNAIRES ????

Funny, one of the reasons I stopped reading the rebooted Legion was because I felt like Rokk and Imra weren't the same characters as before. I generally see the post-boot Rokk as way more uptight than the pre-boot Rokk (and let's not forget that he wasn't in love with Imra!).

Surprisingly, I'm finding the new Wildfire to be a reasonable analogue for the pre-boot character. The origin is totally different, but the brash nature of the guy is totally in line with the original.

Phantom Girl and Shadow Lass are totally different. Remember the days when those two and their boys were the "cool kids" of the Legion? Rather different now isn't it? I actually miss that clicqueiness (sp?) from the Levitz stories.

Ultra Boy is largely the same, despite the amplification of his underworld roots, but Mon-el is very different. M'onel is far more standoffish.

Cham used to be one of the great brains in the Legion. He was the team's detective. That's something I really miss.

I'm sure others will come to me.

WILDFIRE: Personality-wise, DnA seem to have brought back the old Drake! He's brash, sometimes insensitive to the niceties, throws himself in danger, is protective of a cute winged pathfinder and uses his bravado to hide his insecurities about his body (or lack of one) and the fact that he actually cares deeply for the Legion.

Ultra Boy: A good melding of the TMK more street-wise Jo and the Levitz "dumb jock" have created ... Danny Zucco from "Grease"! wink Not so much the jock, but not as savy as the older TMK Jo. Ultimately a guy who acts on guts and instinct, I have no problem seeing them as the same character.

Apparition: Still has a lot of the rebellious girl of privelege that was introduced preboot, but it didn't define her as nearly much as it has postboot. Similar in that Tinya's preboot swooning for Jo was replaced by (until the beginning of this series) clinginess. The big difference is that as part of the "power clique", Tinya could be quite bitchy to fellow teammates and looked down on some of them. This one apparently gets along with everyone.

That's it for now -- more later when I think of it...

The current Triad is a fairly natural outgrowth of the SW6 version's portrayal, though neither really strikes me as very similar to the Shooter or Levitz versions of Luornu (which seem basically the same character).

It's kinda wierd to see Brin totally independent of Ayla. Even after they broke up in the pre-boot, there was a "foundation" in Brin's personally that was created by that previous relationship. Timberwolf was able to grow because of her, even after the break up. Now we see a brash Brin Londo, who is at the edge of possibly being out of control if angered. In this reality he is truly "the beast" and his "beauty" belongs to another guy. I don't want to see Brin end up with Tinya...because it just isn't right. Tinya and Jo did, do and always will belong together.

Good thread. I'll have to think about this a bit, but I like Myg's analysis of Brin.

hmmmm

i'll prob post more on this after more thought, but i agree with Sudro Brown II and DrakeB3003...i miss the "clique" aspect of the Legion too...

i just re-read "The Great Darkness Saga" and it occured to me "man, Ultra Boy, Mon-El, P.G., and Shady are always together..." and that's just one example

anyway, more to come later...

I wish my own favorite had a post-boot version ... the mistaken (as I see them) views of Shikari as "Dawncricket," etc., notwithstanding.

I'd note others who changed, but I have to go take some more NyQuil *honk* ... maybe later.

I see Brainy as pretty much the same character in both pre-boot and post-boot, but the new one seems a bit younger.

Violet's an interesting case. I do see her as a different character, but she has most of the same traits in the post-boot. This time they're far more integrated, though, and that makes more sense to me than having her go from Shy Vi to Shrinking Violent in a couple of issues. It would be interesting to see what post-boot Violet would make of the various pre-boot versions.

Preboot and postboot Nura have some interesting parallels as well as contrasts. They both share transformation as a key part of their lives. They both are extremely beautiful, which gets them noticed. The differences start after that.
Preboot Dream Girl basically waited for visions of the future to come to her, and communicated them to other Legionnaires. She'd be emotional, concerned, but not very proactive. Her transformation came when she began to develop herself. She studied with Karate Kid, she nurtured her inner Naltorian Matriarch essence. She started to vamp it up, and became leader of the Legion.

Postboot Dreamer started off as a rather silly girl, speaking in a manner that didn't command respect, and wearing hippy dippy clothing. When her prophetic visions would come, she'd fall into a narcoleptic state. This was all slapstick humor. She was understandably rejected. Her transformation came from the Khunds. She learned combat techniques, as well as a command of her power and narcolepsy. She took on a more focused resolve, and became an asset to the military. The new Nura did well through the Universo conflict, and deservedly became a Legionnaire.

Preboot and postboot Nura both share a deep love and connection to their Starboys. It didn't work out preboot, and postboot, Nura is haunted by a vision of Thom's grave.

Preboot, Nura was very close to her sister. Postboot, Mysa is not her sister.

Postboot Nura and Imra have always had a touch of chemistry, which has been nicely labeled friendship. I like that.

Preboot, Nura and Imra shared an admiration for each other, a respect. They were the two women identified by Universo as having the strongest wills. I don't think they had much else in common, though.

Preboot Nura went on to become High Seer of Naltor. There is still hopefully, a long road as a Legionnaire for Dreamer. It's doubtful that postboot Naltor even has other seers, let alone a High one.
