THE LEGION #25

Written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning; art by Chris Batista, Mark Farmer, Dave Cockrum, Paul Rivoche, Tony Harris, Tom Feister, Chip Wallace, and Eric Wight; cover by Harris and Feister.

Kicking off the landmark 6-part story "Foundations" that brings Superboy into the Legion! Part 1 begins in Smallville, where a young Clark Kent is confronted by three oddly dressed teens…but by the end, a dead hero will have returned, a young man will have found his destiny, and an apocalyptic darkness prophesied in "Dream Crime" will have reared its ugly head.

48 pages, $3.95, in stores on Oct. 29

Looks like maybe I was right... Dreamer just might've been 'flashing' further ahead than she thought. And Universo capitalized on it, maybe?

But, of course, the big 'spoiler' is in those three little words... Clark and Kent and Smallville.

And an even more unexpected one in 'a dead hero will be returned'.

Oh, my.

So the dead hero is going to be... preboot Kal-El?!?!

I'd rather it be Gim, Garth or Jan.

DnA are weirding me out. I can't tell WHAT the hell they're doing anymore (NOT a complaint).

WHO here ever thought we'd see a non-Clone-El Superboy with the LEGION again?

And.... is that a particularly GOOD idea?

This is the best place to post the previews Todd. Just no beating me to the spoilers! wink

So who's coming back? Garth? Jan? Candi? Perhaps Gim? Maybe his 'katra' has been residing in Violet all this time.

And I don't know what to make of the Clark Kent reference? The current Superboy goes by Kon-El doesn't he? I really don't want another tease of bringing back the true Superboy only to have him jerked away again. And I prefer the clone sticking to our century. But I am anxious for this. Guess it'll be another 6 months, though, before we get a chance to see the Champagne/Lightle collaboration. That sucks.

Well, I wouldn't think so. Kal-El isn't dead, he just never had a career as Superboy. So I think we are still looking at the return of either Garth or Jan.

Hold up. I'm getting by 'boots all discombobulated.

DnA have made a point to work with the POSTboot only LEGION (and have done amazingly well at sticking to their guns with it).

So I've a feeling THIS Superboy is either going to be some kinda Hypertime variant or we will actually see the retcon of the current SUPERMAN's currently-nonexistent boyhood career as Superboy in this arc!

Which means the door IS open for Garth or Jan or Gim!

We might be forgetting about that bit in OUR WORLDS AT WAR where we saw Lar Gand wearing a Superboy outfit.

Maybe this issue will feature Clark Kent AND the Teen Titan Superboy, but will show M'onel deciding for some reason or other to take the name 'Superboy' when back in the 31st C.

Wonder if Laurel Gand would follow suit?

There *is* that 'young man finds his destiny' line...

Though at over 1,000, maybe Lar doesn't qualify as 'young'. smile

Except Lar is pictured over Superboy's right shoulder on the cover. But that cover is still a bit confusing to me.

We have a strong indication that one "dead" Legionnaire is coming back from the artwork released in one of the recent creator interviews. Jan was shown, in some distress, with Imra and Rokk, but it could be another dream, imagined story or some other red herring.

A six-issue arc! I hope we're not kept guessing again for five of the six issues.

I'll guess that the Legion will actually visit a young Clark Kent who gets mindwiped of his future heroic persona by adventure's end.

The Teen of Steel returns!
THE LEGION #25: “Foundations”

Hot off the popular “Dream Crime” storyline, the Legion is set to embark on another monumental mission: “Foundations,” a 6-part adventure that celebrates the Legion’s 45th anniversary by introducing the team’s newest member: Superboy!

Writers Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning and acclaimed new regular artists Chris Batista & Chip Wallace are joined by legendary LEGION artist Dave Cockrum (Uncanny X-Men), Paul Rivoche (DR. FATE covers), newcomer Eric Wight, and regular LEGION cover artists Tony Harris (STARMAN) and Tom Feister for THE LEGION #25, the extra-sized first installment of a story that promises to profoundly effect the Legion for years to come. And to add to the excitement, the first three parts of “Foundations” will ship bi-weekly!

As “Foundations” begins, the Legion gains a new member…one who looks a lot like a certain member of the Teen Titans: Superboy! But is it the Superboy from the 21st century — or someone entirely new? The mystery of his identity begins here! And by the last page of THE LEGION #25, a dead hero returns, a young man finds his destiny, and an apocalyptic darkness prophesied in “Dream Crime” rears its hellish head!

This project is supported with house ads.

THE LEGION is a monthly ongoing series edited by Stephen Wacker. The 48-page issue #25 arrives in comic-book stores October 29 with a cover price of $3.95 U.S.

So biweekly. That'll make a six-parter easier to take.

And just an observation. A few spots down from the Legion is a solicitation for a new Teen Titans Elseworlds special (THE TEEN TITANS SWINGIN' ELSEWORLDS SPECIAL). I thought DC canceled the Elseworlds line.

I knew that "cancelled the Eleseworlds" stuff was a crock of crap when I heard the excuse over at the DC board.

BI-WEEKLY!!!! HOOOOORAY!

Looking at the situation from a point where the writers are... WARNING, wild speculation to follow.

They could be asking for trouble going down this road, but in Legion Lost, and I think I am remembering this correctly, Jan was re-lost after the initial "lost-ing". The terms of this second "lost-ing" were fairly vague, but didn't he go back in time like 1,000,000 years or such... It could be conceivable that Jan isn't exactly coming back from the dead but just re-living his time up until he becomes the Progenitor and some how he made it back to the Universe Proper.

Just a thought.

One big mystery is that, in the pages we've seen for the issue, the one that is clearly an homage to Adv. 247 Clark seems to be visited by Rokk, Imra, and Garth!

My bet is on Jan as the dead hero who returns, though. Not sure I approve, but we'll see...

This is giving me a headache ...

Call me a boob, call me a schlemiel, call me a brain with a missing wheel (five points for identifying the allusion) ... but just how long is this return of Superboy going to last before an editor asserts his turf rights? Again? Or the Siegel family demands money for it, thus squashing it, by asserting its Superman copyrights? Again?

If this return of Superboy -- which dismays me, for I thought they were finally going to have the Legion stand on its own -- lasts even those six issues, I'll be shocked.

Aah, that must be the hidden spoiler someone was referencing on the home board.

Who says Kal can't still be a member? MAYBE it will be the pre superman Kal. Chuck is a member. There are a few as yet non powered members. A cute idea if true.

Though doesn't this Superman still have memories of the pre-zero hour Legion? Are they now giving him memories (unless Saturn Girl wipes them out again) of the post boot Legion that he is retconned into having met in his youth? Cool!

For Grey:

Call me a boob
Call me a schlemiel
Call me a brain with a missing wheel
Call me what you will
But nonetheless I'm still
In love with Harold Mingert
It's not because he has a car
Arnie Fleisher has a car
And a car is just a car
But if Harold didn't have a car too his name
I guess I'd love him just the same
Call me what you will
But nonetheless I'm still
In love with Harold Mingert
And it's not because he has a wealthy family
Arnie Fleischer has a wealthy family
But money isn't everything
And if Harold didn't have a car too his name
I know I'd love him just the same
But sometimes I ask myself why than
Do I than love Harold Mingert
Harold isn't handsome or clever or smart
And I don't find romance and a dance in his heart
The only answers I can think about
Harold Mingert’s money and Harold Mingert’s car
Call me what you will
But non the less I'm still
In love with Harold Mingert
Also Arnie Fleisher!

Scott gets the five points, redeemable at the Legion World Gift Shop!

The comic gem -- and believe me, it improves with her delivery -- is "Value," sung in an off-Broadway revue by Barbra Streisand in 1960, then in her Central Park concert in 1967.

Also see her fascinating anthology of lesser-known and unreleased tracks, "Just for the Record," newly re-released this month.

Another Streisand maven. Oy!

So what do y'all think about the news that The Legion will be going bi-weekly for awhile?

I'm pretty excited, if they can maintain the quality...

But will Batista be doing the entire arc?

Well we know he doesn't do all of the art chores for #25 but I think Chris, and new inker Chip Wallace, are planned to be there for the rest of the arc.

And I, for one, am excited for the bi-weekly plan. Especially since it means Steve Lightle's and Keith Champagne's collaboration will be at least two months closer to happening.

The obvious solution to the Superboy dilema seems to be to hint at him being a direct descendant of Clark and Lois.

Never confirm it, but just hint at it... this way it doesn't tie down the Superman mythos of "today", but we still get a real deal Superboy (20 to 25 generations down the line or so) in the Legion. Not only that but there should be no continuity issues that have to be retconned out 20 years from now (real time). Heck, you could prabably name him Shakespeare Kent, Kal Kant, El Kun... (better not finish that thought) or something like that.

It just seems that we're always talking about whether this character or that one has been rebooted yet... But everybody just thinks of Superboy as dead. Why can't Superboy be rebooted too?

An interesting point is that we're apparently also seeing the return of Kent Shakespeare with this arc... a possible connection?
