I loved it, definitely worlds beyond All-Star Bats. The bizzare sci-fi fantasy of it just blew me away. I think I can smell Grant Morrison's imagination enhancers all the way over here.

Some things should never change. Clark is bumbling, Lois never shuts up, and Lex is pure evil. While there's tons of "classic Superman" elements, the last page shows that this will be no rehash of the silver-age.

The only thing I didn't like was Lois' look. I though she looked too young.

All-Star Superman is the best Superman story in the last 20 years (Action Comics #775 comes close).

I couldn't have asked for a better Superman story! It rocked my world!

I agree, best superman in a long time.

The internet seems pretty polarized on this one though.

I would expect that to be the case.

Any critiques worth mentioning?

Can't wait to check this out myself. Despite some people not liking him, Grant Morrison is one of the few creators in comics I'd buy close to anything for, i.e. his upcoming WildCats.

Just read it and loved it. Reminded me totally of Chris Reeve's version, the same emotion. Still not sold on Quitely's art though. Never have been. But I'll definitely stick around as long as Morrison is on board writing.

I thought it was groovalicious except for the annoyingly exaggerated builds of the characters. I mean... it's bad enough that Superman's Clark Kent disguise consists of a change of clothes and some glasses, but how can anyone not recognize him considering he's the only other person on the planet with the horribly unnatural build that Superman has?

I liked it as well. The exaggerated science fiction was really good. I've never liked Superman and I gotta say this silver agey setting is the best for him. As for the rest of the DCU? No. smile Superman should be exaggerated, bright, etc. Morrison has hit the mark and I enjoyed the art.

Would Lois were a skirt that short??? doh!

What did ever think of the Willy Wonka-like philanthropist? I am intruigued by the guy, people on the 'net seemed to think that he's a little over the top.

I thought he was interesting. And very much Willy Wonka-like. Seemed to have the same excitement for the different sciences he was working with as Wonka did for candy.

I loved this comic! More! laugh
And it wasn't until I was describing the Rainbow-coated Doctor to a friend that I realised his Wonka-ness... I mentioned the coat and cane and then went, well, he's just like- and my friend and I said it together: Willy Wonka. Hehehehehe. I wonder if the similarity was intentional?

I thought the Willy Wonka guy was a bit over the top. Atleast his costume was...his actual dialogue I didn't have a prob with.

Count me in as loving the first issue too. I also rally loved the Quietly cover too. Morrison can do no wrong.

At the risk of being unpopular...

(I didn't like it.)

But I am neither a Morrison nor a Superman fan, so I don't think that should shock anyone.

I'm... not sold yet.

I expected a lot of silver-age-esque nonsense and insead got a lot of new-age mumbo-jumbo.

Yes, there's a difference.

Gonna give it at least 6 issues.

I haven't liked Quitely's art in the past (some of his X-Men stuff made me cringe), but I thought it was OK here. I didn't quite grok the story (with the Wonka-esque scientist), but I'll give it a few more issues... which is more than I gave All-Star Batman and Robin.

Jim Lee's art just doesn't do anything for me these days. It's technically proficient, but boring... I dropped that title after the first issue.

It's ok so far. I don't have a strong reaction one way or the other.

The best Superman story in the last ten years, imo (since we're all using superlatives here) was "Superman for All Seasons" - I was blown away by that one.

Loved it even more now that I've seen it in color.

I'm not the biggest Quitely fan, either, but somehow his style works here, especially on Clark Kent.

What? No one read #2? Maybe not as good as issue #1 but I still loved it. I definitely want to see more of this Morrison version around.

And was that a Legion timebubble I spotted as well as a Sun-Eater? Seems like an AR book to me.

What I like about the general feel is that I dn't mind if they do silver age sillines story. Maybe THAT is what is missing in comics these days. But it's a seperate universe and I say experiment.

The main DCU has it's own tone and it's all under one label. I think Morrisson has a good idea here. Gotta read #2. I admit when I saw the cover of Lois Lane in a costume I cringed...but what the heck?! It's all fun right?!
