Just read the "New Frontier" thread and wondering if anyone has read this series by Peter David(Hulk, X-Factor, Supergirl, Aquaman, Fallen Angel)?

It's a funny series of novels about an anti-hero in the days of chivalry.

Pete-
I love these books. I am tryinf to find Tongue Lashing. I really enjoyed Woad to Ruin. I laugh when I read those books. I totally enjoyed the reference to happy hour.

I've seen the "Sir" series in the bookstores, but honestly, i'm a little leary of trying them.
Some of my favorite writers write a series. And then i see some of their other work and try it, and it just doesn't have the same clarity, depth, passion, and love of character as the Series that i found to start with. Then i find myself not liking the series as much either.
But the funny thing is, that is generally in the novels only, cause i have followed favored writers all over comics.
I generally grab anything i see by PAD (except sadly, Madrox, but that is because i have only seen the first issue, and none since.), Wolfman is doing some fun stuff over at Defexx, and i was lucky enough to find it and try it. Johns is going great guns. Levitz used to guarantee i read the book...

Peter David has a strong passion for Apropos. This was the first sereis I picked up on after I read the New Frontier series. He really takes care of the characters. Give it a try Rick..I think you will pleasently surprised.

I'll give it a look. Passion for the work is what makes it with me. As a teenager i loved the Xanth series. When it looked like it was being phoned in, i quit with it.
It wasn't that my reading tastes have changed, I think i am lucky enough to enjoy good writing on many different levels, it just got to seem forced. I hate to see that with different series i have bought over the years.
Right now i am loving the Simon R. Green nightside series. Its fast, fun and inventive in the characters, powers, and situations. When its obvious that he doesn't want to put the work into it anymore, i'll quit with it. But i have tried his Hawk and Fisher, and didn't care for it. Same with Glen Cook and his Garret series, but i didn't care for the Black Company stuff.
But i will take a look at David Sir series.

yeah, just finished Hex In The City, good read. Also reread the Deathstalker series. best described as great pulp fiction.
And agree very much with your Xanth view. At some point Xanth swapped storytelling with bad puns to just the puns. The Apropos stories are nothing if not brimming with puns
And considering i tend towards black humour and the misanthropic, i have to say the last Apropos book left me feeling very, very cold.
there was something 'too clever' about the puns, and too whiney about the main character that made the black last part of the book feeling like a cheat.
