I just read the little story on Iron Sky on AICN. There was a line there that it was cool to hate on Sky Captain. Why? Am i missing something? I liked it so much i bought the DVD after seeing it at the movies.
Does anyone know why, or is it just the usuall anal sphincter voids doing their thing?

hadn't heard of that. i don't care if it's a fad to bash it; it was still a fun, likeable, well-crafted flick. I bought the DVD too.

I don't remember a lot of details about it, but what I do remember is that it looked really good and felt really slow. I remember telling my wife walking out of the movie theater that Sky Captain was a perfect example of ending on a high note and making people feel good as they walked out of the theater. We did not buy it on dvd and haven't missed it. Didn't hate it either.

It was certainly visually entertaining but I didn't think the story was particularly strong, Honestly, I don't remember it all that well. I do remember that something about it got on my nerves but it's been a while and I rarely re-watch movies.

I never saw it. What I hated about it was the advertising inserted in a month's worth of my comics-- posters on the same stock as the covers, if not heavier. I think the books came polybagged, too.  Probably why I never watched it...

Loved it. Pulpy goodness.
Plus that was the year that Sky Captain came out with Angelina and Jude Law, and the marriage of Jude Law and Sienna Miller ended.
As opposed to when Taking Lives came out with Angelina and Ethan Hawke, and his marriage to Uma Thurman ended. Or when Mr. and Mrs. Smith came out with Angelina and Brad Pitt, and his marriage to Jennifer Aniston ended.
That whacky Angelina. She's a one-woman demolition crew.

Well, it's very obvious that Sky Captain was based on the short test film. That is, the first part of it was. These scenes are filmed more soft-focus and muted color than the rest of the film - more "retro". It gradually decays to a more ordinary-lloking sci-fi actioner. (Though I feel it was the first scenes that were overdone.)
Most people, including myself, had high expectations for Sky Captain. Its reception suffered. Around the same time, most people had low expectations for I, Robot. Then when it came out, most people liked it. I usually love 30s retro and get tired of Will Smith, so I was surprised to like I, Robot better.
