Hi! I had to review Margaret Cho's London debut show last night. I heard she was a controversial figure. To be honest I thought she was Ok-ish - but in hindsight I now think she was rubbish. She's a very charming performer but I think it's outragoeus she's charging people £30 (that's pounds! not dollars!) to see her make "jokes" about Dick Cheney's daughter and do an impression of the New Jersey governor's wife. Why? Coz no one in London knows who the hell those women are! It's like me going to to New York and doing a routine about Vera Duckworth and Nadia Almada. Anyway, for those who are interested the guy at this website has done a review which is much better than mine! (coz his is 3 times as long). Have a look - coz I think he's hit the nail on the head: www.chortle.co.uk

It helps with Margaret Cho to know what you're getting into before you buy your ticket. For example, if her impression of her mother is worth the admission price alone for you, then you're in the right place.
Another comic along the same line is Eddie Izzard, who I think is the most hysterical being to walk the world on two legs, but I could see someone being thoroughly confused at one of his concerts if they didn't know what they were getting into.
White. A blank page or canvas. His favorite. So... many... possibilities.

I saw her live a few months ago, and I thought she was pretty fabulous.

Ouch, she did Mary Cheyney jokes to a Brit audience? Mags seems like someone who'd know better than that... I'd think she'd kill with that CC Bloome's joke. I've seen her live twice and I enjoyed it and I just can't get enough of her concert films.
Cho's best material has to do with Asian-American culture, which should translate easily to the UK, along with her run of fag hag jokes.
Her first concert film, "I'm the one that I want" is just brilliant emotionally powerful comedy about the personal descent she faced over her TV show. The part about working on an Olivia Cruz just gets me giggling at the thought of it.

Yep, if you've ever been a good friend of a second-generation Asian with a crazy mother there's no resisting Margaret Cho. The producers of her sitcom really missed what her comedy was all about... the show had a huge potential audience that they never served.

I saw Margeret back at UC Berkeley and thought she was awesome. I've got relatives like hers so I can totally relate. Her humor isn't for everyone (which I'd think is true about most comedians), but those who 'get it' usually have a pretty good time. "Hai, mah name is Gwen, Ah'm here to warsh your... ".

"I'm the One that I Want" was hilarious and one of the few concert films (or performances of any type) that had me laughing uncontrollably. Some of her other older material is really inspired as well.
I haven't seen any of her new material (in the last couple of years), so I really can't say if her work has dropped off or not...
