I thought Santino's designs all looked like Gingerbread houses -- nothing sexy about any of them. While Daniel's designs were less than inspired, at least they qualified as lingerie a lot more in my book.
I'm also not sure about the whole "Apprentice" thing about splitting into teams. How important is it really to be a good leader or team player? The judges showed that it really comes down to who they thought was the overall more talented designer anyway.

Jeez, I love this show. Maybe it's partly that I'm a wannabe 'designer'--but I think it's mostly that it's a reality show that rewards TALENT.

Team player isn't an important quality for this competition but being a good leader, one who can communicate their vision, is important for when they're no longer sewing their own designs but having someone sew their line. So if Santino is ever sucessful, I guess he'll need to be able to sew a few thousand of each outfit. Anybody check out Tim's podcast? He says that Santino spent 90 minutes yelling at the judges, including Heidi -- who Santino felt should like his line since she approved the conceptual sketches. 90 sheesh.

Santino is kinda scary - not like Martha Stewart scary but more like Hannibal Lecter scary. Whatever you do, don't turn your back when he has a pair of scissors in his hands...

The latest episode was an exercise in the designers really getting to do what they must have gotten into this industry for... designing for a rich girl. Most of the designs were very good, and I agree with the judges choices for top three. In fact, I know I wouldn't be able to pick the best one, so it made sense that Nikki Hilton should decide. The leaders in this competition are certainly emerging, Santino, Chloe and Nick, and I'll add Daniel to that list.
The interesting dilemma ended up being which person to vote off. Should it be the one who did something derivative, but still attractive, or the original piece that wasn't as nice looking? I still don't know what I think, but the judges made a good point that Lupe would have put Nikki on the worst dressed list, and that's worse than being on the least original list.

Disagree on that last point. Publicity is publicity.
I found something I liked about almost every dress, whether it was the fabric (Daniel, Andrae, Emmett, Guadalupe), the color (Santino), or bodice construction (Zulema, and I'd like to see Diana's dress up close).
Wish the viewers would have been let in on what Nicky's brief said about her likes and dislikes.

Heh, yeah, we do disagree. I've thought about it even more since I first saw the show. I think in a design competition, it's all about creating attractive garments, the most attractive (in this case, as deemed by the judges) should win and the least attractive should lose.
I just realized that I'm SO glad this show isn't live, and has a public vote element!

I agree with that! I wish we heard more from the judges, though, because as it is, they're silent on half the contestants. That's why I check out Tim\'s Take for each episode, because the Blog portion does comment on each design. (In this week's version, he also mentions the socialite vis-a-vis the entertainer in regard to fashion risks.)

I think that sometimes being on the worst list can be a good thing if the celeb or designer are known for being outrageous or for pushing the envelope. An occassional foray into "what the heck was she thinking" can be good for attention as long as it doesn't become what either are known for.
That said, Lupe's was not only ugly, it wasn't at all outrageous or bold which would've won it some points in my mind.

I couldn't resist. I went ahead and made sketches of my ideas for each of this season's assignments! I still need to scan them, but maybe I'll make a thread over in Bits...

As for the current episode, the designers paired up to create a "day into evening" outfit.
Santino's arrogance and moodiness are just so ugly. I really don't like him. I find myself wishing for his failure. Poor Nick didn't want to work with him, but ended up having to. I couldn't believe Santino's statement to Michael Kors, about his clientele being older and how Banana Republic customers probably don't know who Kors is! Wow, burn some bridges Santino! His design was second to last. What a terrible window display!! Wow. My wife and I were hoping Santino would be out, but we didn't want Nick to have to leave.
Daniel and Andrae won with their cute design and clever window display. Andrae hasn't been bugging me as much lately. That's good.
Kara was such a mess, if I was Zulema, I'd wanna slap her! Totally agreed with the judges, it was a cute dress, but a weird jacket. I guess the craftsmanship suffered from their poor time management, too.
Chloe and Emmett were the cool, quiet second placers. Their design was very good.
Poor Diana and Marla. It really was only a matter of time until they each were to go, so why not both at once? Kors called it when he said their outfit looked like a stewardess uniform. I'm getting a kick out of Kors' various descriptions of the bad designs.

Truthfully, I could've accepted Nick as a cost of losing Santino. I think Nick's the best designer and I'd hate to see less of his work, but I could give that up if it meant losing Santino. I can't stand him, I fast forward whenever he's talking (I ::heart:: my DVR).
Diana and Marla, what an awful pairing. I adore Diana's sense of adventure, she's been the most wildly creative designer. Meanwhile, Marla's the doubter. That's kinda like pairing Alan Moore with a guy who draws stick figures.
I think I'm feeling secure in my top three prediction. I'm seeing Chloe, Nick and Daniel V... unless Emmett has a lucky break down the line.
Between the attitude, the repetitive style (more trim! more fashion!) and the burning of bridges, I really think Santino's going to get eliminated.

Model Grace should win a trophy for how well she maneuvered Chloe and Emmett's reversible jacket.

I agree about Santino. He is such a little child. All happy one minute and then he gets the ugliest face when he get's a little bit of crictism. His huge attitude is not endering himself to the populas here.
He was so lucky that he paired up with Nick. Nick is a favorite and the judges will not let him go. And they all realized that the design was all Santino's and not his. I wish he and Chole had paired up. I would have loved to see what they would have come up with.
Poor Diana. She has some good ideas, and I think will come out better from the experenice.
I agree with LyleLyle that Nick and Chole will make it to the final three. Last spot will be a wildcard.

The swan dress was amazing, tho.

I still like Chole's dress more. But Z will let this win go to her head.

I liked how Tim tip toed up to Santino to ask him to please not defend his design with an F U. The stuff Santino was saying was kinda cracking me up for some reason, too. The Phoenix Rising did NOT look good.
I was rooting for Zulema. I'm glad she won. Chloe's did look like a Christmas tree, by her own admission. I think Chloe is very good, though. That dress would probably look great in another color, maybe ice blue?
Heide's been putting on the extra glam the bigger her tummy gets. She looks fantastic. I *heart* pregneant women!
Emmett was cast OUT wearing the world's least flattering shirt EVER! Poor guy. His body looked like Heide's!

"Was it the shirt?" Tee hee! (And didja notice someone bedazzled rhinestones or sequins in the shape of a big E on it at some point before the runway show?)
It's not really a surprise that Emmett's out, but I wouldn't have minded seeing what he would have come up with for a few more challenges. Plus he's not too difficult to look at.
I'm looking forward to next week. I haven't figured out the clues as to the theme, but I'm sure Judge Jay will make the show well worth watching.

Judge Jay! That's what I called him, speaking to my wife! Heh.
Yeah, we saw the "E." We laughed.

i watched the last two episodes that i missed and must say i really like chloe - i don't think she's ever made something i didn't like. i liked her ice skating 'fit cause it didn't look like the typical hideous ice skating dress but still would have worked...
