AWESOME!!! Great show. they were so so cute. I was so close and BOY were they cute. Yumi had little cards so she could speak to the crowd. encore was the teen titans song and everyone sang along. Did I mention how cute they looked? A very all ages crowd; lots of little kids to my suprise(with parents of course). I want to go to Philly tomorrow to see them again; it was that much fun. they put on a great show. pete p.s. the pastrami was good too.

I'm going to see them at the 9:30 club in DC tonight. I would be rather surprised to see kids there, but it's not impossible.
Having seen them up close at a panel at Otakon in Baltimore this past Friday, I will attest as to their cuteness.

First, the Otakon panel.
They were running extremely late, due to traffic from the Baltimore airport, so the staff on-hand showed some videos - one for "Joining A Fan Club" and one for another song I can't recall. Then Kaz the manager showed up to say hi - turns out the Kaz from the cartoon is based on their actual manager. Who knew?
Following some chat, and an admonition from the staff that only the attending press would be allowed to take pictures, they showed us the music video for "Teen Titans" and then an episode of the cartoon that hasn't aired on Cartoon Network yet. Turns out that Kaz had never seen the cartoon before, so we got to see him see "Kaz" for the first time, which was pretty funny.
Halfway through the ep, Ami and Yumi finally made it in. They started out by asking a bunch of trivia questions, with the winners getting a little prize pack. The questions ranged from easy (What's the name of the band's manager) to hard (Name their first Japanese single) to nigh-impossible (Name the drink that Yumi doesn't like). The last prize was tickets to the show, but instead of asking a question, they decided to give tickets to anybody who had their birthday that day, which was pretty nice.
Then it was our turn to ask questions, though I can't recall many of those, outside of Yumi saying she liked the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Then they had to go, since they had flown out to Baltimore inbetween gigs and needed to get to Philly. They both apologized for being late, said they hoped to see us at the shows, and headed out. After they left, some staffers passed out some Puffy Ami Yumi folders as a little thank-you.
All rather nice, really, and I'm glad I showed up early, since the room was packed and a *lot* of people ended up being turned away.

As for the show proper....
Well, darned if Pete didn't call it - quite a few kids with there parents. And a big ol' "No Smoking" sign at the club entrance - a rarity for the 9:30 Club. I'm guessing they didn't exactly break any records for alcohol sales either.
I got there about 8 PM, which would be the normal time for a show. Puffy came on three minutes later. I'd completely missed the opening act.
It turns out that Ami and Yumi are Rock Chicks after all. Their backing band was good, and they enthusiastically plowed through a songs most of which came from the current Cartoon Netwrok CD. They stopped every so often, as Pete noted, to read bits off cards. The most memorable of those was a request for good places to eat in D.C. I don't think we were much help.
Great show overall, with the kind of well-crafted and diverse pop/rock you rarely see anymore. The encore, to our surprise, was Green Day's "Basket Case" (the two acts seem to be mutual fans) followed by "True Asia".

I was wondering why they had come over this time. Glad to hear there's a new record.
Sadly, I'm not going to make any of their shows this time out either.
